We've done favorite classes, but I don't think we've done a favorite electives thread.
So what is your favorite elective? or was your favorite elective? You can pick more than 1 (just don't name like a million, lol)
If I am forgetting something just pick other & say what it is.
Mine are Drama & Choir of course. I'm really weird. One minute I totally hate Drama, & the next I totally love it (like today for example haha). Drama can stress you out, but you can get something out of it most of the time. And Choir is awesome. We're going to knotts berry farm & are going to be in a Choir competition on May 8th so that's gonna rock. Choir is really fun!

Newspaper/Journalism
My last 2 years of high school I lived and breathed it. And my senior year I was the Editor. :)
-
FRENCH!
Well, no . . . I'm not in high school yet . . . But still.
-
I picked choir by my favorite two were yearbook journalism and Music In Our Lives. I made kick ass pages for the yearbook and learned a few chords on the guitar 8) :-P

Whats an 'elective'? Is it like an activity you have to do, in your spare time at school?

an elective is not a required course in school - so say you had free time inbetween your required courses - you could choose an extra course. They're usually fun ones - like in my school there's yearbook journalism, sociology and psychology, historical films, criminal justice...etc.

This year I'm taking my only elective ever . . .it's Drama; I pretty much hate it. I COULD take one senior year but I'm taking 2 AP Scinces instead, or maybe 1 AP Sceince and more Latin (providing all goes well junior year), I'm not sure but yeah, so I guess I can't answer
-
You hate Drama? lol dang. I can probably see why tho. Well I don't know what the Drama program is like at your school, but mine is like crazy. Everyone loves & hates it, it's weird. But for the most part it's fun.
why don't you like it?
-
mine are borrrrrrrringgggggggg.
but I like art.

I can't wait until the 11th grade when I can take webdesign and graphics!

I took graphics last semester...I was suppose to be a senior :).
-
How do you guys take so many?! DO you take real classes?!
Drama is too revealing for me, I don't even like handing in tests because I feel like I've opened my brain and thoughts up too much to the teacher. If I am not 100% sure I got 100% on the test I won't look the teacher in the eyes for a week. I don't have stage fright, I just don't like drawing from personal stuff on stage. I love public speaking so go figure.
-
I hated drama too Christine - you're not alone :-P I didn't like my teacher, he was so egotistical and argh.

I take a math, science, social studies, and an English class. That leaves me with 4 electives per year until I am a senior. Senior year I only have to take a math and an English, and I can take another science or social studies. Senior year I can also choose to go home or take another elective to fill in the science and social studies gap.
Electives also contain boring shit like Career Mng. and teen living. My electives suck too because they require an exam...
-

I took graphics my sophomore and junior year, the two classes were great. even more so junior year cuz it was the advanced class, and they pretty much let us be on our own and decide whatever we wanted to do.
-
I take physics, history, french, math, english, gym, family and consumer sciences, and english. I have to take gym until my junior year because we don't have enough space and teachers and well...it's a massachusetts budget cut thing...anyways...I have to take 2 years of gym,2 years of sciences, 3 years of history, 3 years of math,4 years of english,1 year of buisness, 1 year of music/family and consumer sciences/art,and a language is pretty much optional in the 10-12 grade...you had to take it in the 7-9th grade if you didn't have a learning disability....soooooooooo what I did was I took family and consumer sciences this year to get that out of the way and I signed up for buisness for next year so when I get into the 11th and 12th grade I can chose 2 electives of my choice...soooooo since I'm behind in math I'm going to take an extra math course in the 11th grade so I can be caught up to honors level math...and I'm going to take graphic designs and all the rest of my academics...and in the 12th grade I'll take all of my academics and then pick up another language or just have 2 electives which I'm not sure what I want to take yet...just not singing or cooking again...ew. so that is my school life in a nutshell...:S

e is Euler's constant which is equal to approximately 2.71. ð is the letter edh which used to be in the English alphabet and was in many Saxon tongues. Today, it is most widely used in Icelandic.
It's a wiseass spoof of Sesame Street. No little kid is gonna be dealing with math that would involve using e or reading/studying ancient Germanic languages.

Yeah about the Drama thing it can be revealing. During our monologue auditions that our teacher usually has us write ourselves, they usually say something about the person that you didn't know or something. Like I just did my audition yesterday, but I did a "universal topic" as my teacher put it about being scared to drive in my town with crazy drivers & taking my permit test. It went actually really well.
So Drama can be a good thing. But it can also be really stressful at times! Esp. during finals- our teacher is psycho during finals, omg. lol

Well, C, we don't have to take all those religion classes...and most don't take all those honor classes...I'd die!...but if it makes you feel any better I took Honors Geometry and made a C and I am still taking Algebra 2 honors...
-

why not take all honors classes? They have so much higher GPA points...I love it...I figure whatever class I'm in I'm probably going to get the same grade whether it is honors or not so why not go with the honors class and get a good gpa? I wish I didn't mess up in math a few years ago so I could be in honors math and then I would have all honors courses...butttt I will fix that in the 11th grade..yep....
-
Well, C, we don't have to take all those religion classes...
DOH! That'd explain it . . .then I could take 4.5 more electives

I don't believe I get the same grades in Honors as I would Regualr . . .and I only get .25 better GPA wise (B+ regualr is 3.5, it's 3.75 honors)

These electives sound pretty weird! Are they supposed to be fun? Here we HAVE to choose an activity like first aid, sign language and there are a whole load of sports to choose from- i have managed to get away with not having one for 2 terms now! wahey!
btw, pyschology is an elective!? I take that as a serious subject!
-
ummm... it's between chior and ceramics! i think because i hate my vocal teacher and loved my ceramics, ceramics was an overall better expirience for me.
I also love my Forensic Science class as well!
i'm techincally taking 6 electives, cause English and Gov are the only classes i need to take to graduate!
Forensics, Religion (ok, for my school this is mandatory, but not for most), Pre-Calculus, Physics, Film and Vocal Technique!
-

for the most part electives are fun - you choose to take them. Like my friend Shyamia who's taking a Historical Films class - they just watch movies that deal with historical periods and then discuss them. Incredibley easy course.
In my school you're required to take at least one elective as a freshman in either music or art - but that's all. Our semestering is weird so there's not much time to fit a lot of electives in. We're required to take four years of math, science, history, and english, language, and physical education.
-
in my school we are required to take 2 electives in the arts and 2 years of PE. But we have to take many extra classes because we're not allowed to have less than 7 classes unless we have a good exuse not to! like right now i'm taking 8 classes and only need 2 of them. my school is insane!
-
Most people at my school take 6 classes. I take 8. That is zero period, plus 1-6. Then I have classes elsewhere on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 PM.
-
You guys have a 0 period also!? I thought mine was the only one, lol. I take 0 period just because I wanted to be in the same Economics class I was last semester but my other English class conflicted with that class & Choir, so I decided to take English 0 period & keep Choir & my Economics class. Then I get to have early release & leave right after lunch. So it's workin out pretty well!
Tho 0 period starts at like 6:20 in the morning, I have to wake up at like 5:15 every morning so that's kind of hard, but I've been getting used to it!
The only electives I've had this year are Drama & Choir, here's my schedule this semester since everybody else is posting theirs, lol
0 period English
1st period Algebra (yes I'm still in Algebra, I sucked at Math in highschool, but this year I've been getting A's & B's, so thats pretty good)
2nd period Choir
3rd period Life Science (yes the counseling corner could be better, I don't know why I'm taking this my Senior year, but oh well)
4th period Drama
5th period Economics
Lunch/early release
Yeah so I have kind of a weird schedule. The only classes I have with all Seniors is English & Economics, the rest are mixed classes. My school is insane also.
-
umm dance :?
i really dont like elective
-

-
we have zero period too... but only for ensamble and vocal technique
zero period: Vocal technique
1st block: English IV
2nd block: American Government
3rd block: Forensic Science
4th block: Religion IV
5th block:Pre-Calculus
6th block: Physics
7th block: Politics in Film
-
Gourmet Foods  is my favorite- I wish all classes were as fun as this one- making food almost every day and then getting to eat haha. I also really like Spanish 8)
-
I have to take art
but since I have hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of my hands and feet)
I wont be able to draw or sketch
so I'm gonna take an online Art Class!!! :D
its so cool
Manda
-
I like art..
i'm taking a few art classes next year to make up for the lack of art throughout high schooool.. i've missed out.. i did take fashion for half of this year.. but it was not nearly enough! blah .. that's only one thing i wish i did more of..
however, my favorite elective would have to be ap spanish..
i don't know.. maybe art and spanish are equally my favorite..
-
Okay....stupid question, but do you take exams in these? They sound pretty cool! Like politics in film- wicked!
-
i depends on the class - there isn't any in historical films, but i had one for psychology. If you take AP classes, then you have to take the AP exam, which is uber hard.
-
Okay....stupid question, but do you take exams in these? They sound pretty cool! Like politics in film- wicked!
Well for Drama we just finished auditions for our final that we perform before the Seniors leave for classes that come in the theater to watch us, so that is basically our exam if you want to call it that, or final.
For Choir last semester we just had a written test I think, & had to sing in front of the teacher buy ourselves. I don't have a clue what we're doing this semester. Probably somewhat of the same thing.
I'm not sure about the other classes, I've only been in Drama & Choir this year.
-
Okay....stupid question, but do you take exams in these? They sound pretty cool! Like politics in film- wicked!
depends on the class... but usually we have some kind of quizes or finals!
in vocal technique basically our final is our performance in front of school.
for politics and film (and yes, it is a wicked class, haha) we dont have quizes... but he gives us a essay to do every 2 movies we watch! We just have to answer questions about the films and analyze them! We watch movies like Primary Colors, Amistad, and 13 Days. I took Film Studies last semester and that was basically about film techniques and we watched a lot of interesting movies... We also wrote a lot of essays on each film we watched (we had to do like 2 a week) and take a few quizes and tests on our text book stuff. Our final was to write, cast, produce, direct and edit our own film! That was SO much fun!
-
It all sounds really weird. Like here we only ever take subjects like that to do a final externally examined final in. You barely have any externally assessed exams it sounds like. ARGH i suppose it all comes with being the most examined country in the world.
