How long did it take you to warm up to Vanessa?
be honest... :)
-
INSTANT!
The first time I saw the video for A Thousand Miles, the scene when she's in the city, the camera is pointed upward to the skyscrapers, I was glued to the TV, and at the end wrote down her name to find more.

I was hooked.

Second I heard her
Was on the radio at work, and I remember I was wishing everybody would shut the hell up so I could hear that song, I loved it from the first note.
-
I loved her right away!
I remember I was listening to Kiis, I just had dsl like a month before so it was my first times listening to an American radio station really.
Then I heard the first notes and I was like "OMG, who is THAT?"
The name was displayed "Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles".
A few minutes later, I had downloaded the song and I played it for HOURS on my comp.
Then I went to CDNow (they don't exist anymore) and looked up the release date for the single and the album. I even ordered the single, it was like $2.50 and $6 for shipping! lol
The rest is history.

I remember when I first heard ATM on the radio, I was shocked. I thought, "Wait....this song has...piano in it....and violins....and all this classical stuff....wow!" I loved how it would start out subtly with the beginning piano riff, and then build and build, and then end as subtly as it had begun...
Now, it did take me a while to decide that I wanted to buy BNN, and then it took a while for me to really warm up to the songs on it, and then it took me a while to become the NESSAholic that I am today....
But that's part of my personality. I can't just passively like something--if I like it, I have to obsess about it; computers, Latin, and now Nessa 8)

I heard ATM on the way to DC, and Ordinary Day on the way back. ATM got my attention, and OD got me hooked.
Crazy. Then I saw the video for ATM and I was like . . . woahhh. Hot.

The second I heard her <3

Took me about a month. Early March '02 was when I first heard her, I figure by April I must have like her because that's when I joined the o-board.
-
I was hooked the first time I saw the vid ... even though my friend made me watch it with the sound off because he hates pop music
-

I'll admit, it took me a while.

"I thought she looked sweaty and dirty," said Ashley
-
well i couldn't stand her for one reason and one reason alone:
she's dating stephan jenkins (childish, i know... but a massive amount of 3eb fans are convinced that the band doesn't do shit because he's so "distracted" by vanessa...)
i heard ATM and thought it was okay, but i wasn't really super-impressed by anything but the piano.
but then a certain NESSAholic, who shall remain nameless, sent me "all i ask" and my basic reaction was a jaw drop. so i searched all her fansites and downloaded as much as possible, and was just... REALLY impressed, lol.
so i bought her cd.
and now i realize that it's stephan's own damn fault. if i were her, i'd want him to produce my album, too. :D

Took me A LONG TIME.
It was not until August of 2002 when Ordinary Day was in its prime that I decided that this VC chick might not be all that bad.
soo I loved OD..
then maybe a month later went back to ATM and was like.. okay this isn't bad! what was I thinking?
I was very skeptical when I first heard of VC though.. my sisters were all over ATM and liked the video..a nd I was like it's not so great.

The first time I heard her...in a warehouse store

Believe it or not after I heard that melody for ATM for the third time (it repeats in the song) on LAUNCH, I was like, "Oh my god this is different." Embarrasing enough I was squinting trying to see what this cute girl looked like as the quality was horrible before I actaully noticed the melody. But once I noticed the motif I had to play it over again several times because it showed musical talent and I was suprized by it.
I hadn't been around computers very much for 10 years but this was the first time I ever actaully searched for more information on the web or otherwise about an artist. After I did a search on a search engine I found the OB.

actually even BEFORE I heard her
I saw the beginning of the ATM video and when she walked to the piano and sat down I was hooked..............
-
Ohh, me too. I remember when they first premiered the video on TRL... I was like "... 8O This kicks ASS"
-
The first time I heard ATM on the radio. And it was usually late at night driving home from work. It was different. It was actually good. Good music on the radio. Wow, that was rare.
Then after the single with 'twilight' I was hook.
But I won't lie, It took me a while to really like BNN. And it took me a year later to see the face on the CD. lol. :)
