The Village (http://thevillage.movies.go.com/index.html)
-Let the bad color not be seen. It attracts them.
-Never enter the woods. That is where they wait.
-Heed the warning bell, for they are coming.
M. Night Shyamalan's The Village hits theaters July 30
Looks creepy! can't wait to see this flick.
:o
Set in 1897, the tale of an isolated village confronting an astonishing truth that lies just outside its borders. At first glance, this village seems picture perfect, but this close-knit community lives with the frightening knowledge that creatures reside in surrounding woods. The evil and foreboding force is so unnerving that none dare venture beyond the borders of the village and into the woods. But when curious, headstrong Lucius Hunt plans to step beyond the boundaries of the town and into the unknown, his bold move threatens to forever change the fate of the village.

Ooooooooooh....I saw an advertisement for it last night, it looks really creepy and really fun. Syamalan is a great director; I saw Signs when it came out in theaters and I thought it was really well done. And...
1897! Hellz yeah! Bram Stoker's Dracula was published that year...any movie set in 1897 has got to be good
Of course, it doesn't sound like The Village will have many vampires or upper-class Victorians in it, but who knows...
-
I can't wait to see this film. There's already an M. Night Shyamalan thread here if you want to talk more about the director.

i saw Signs last year on Friday the 13th. me and my friends were all freaked out when we got in there, but there were some many people like, acting all goofy during the movie, that it really wasn't that scary. for example... someone would scream bloody murder at a boring part during the movie. lol. stuff like that...
Amanda
-
awwwww, they spoiled the movie!!!
I loved it.
even when I watch it now it makes me freak out and get all scared.

I saw Signs in a dirty little theater in L.A. There was a very...energetic audience. People screamend bloody murder at the scary parts...particularly when you see the leg go into the corn patch and when the alien walks across the screen in the birthday party video...It was fun :D

the birthday party video was halarious. because it wasn't that scary, but we all screamed anyways.... and we screamed when they played it again in the movie. lol. good times good times
jeez, even the opening credits freaked me out because they would disapear and then jump at you again. haha

I loved "Signs" and that bit was the best part. So well done. I've not heard of "The Village" but if it's the same director I think I'll definitely have to see it. I love scary films. Pity there hasn't been too many good ones since teen slashers became fashionable.

Alright Brian. Glad you liked it. 8)

I saw The Villiage yesterday. I got more scared than I thought I would. Last night I must admit I had some trouble sleeping thinking about "the creatures". I really liked the movie..very twilight zone-ish. I thought it sent an interesting message.

i've heard mostly bad reviews from my friends
and online.

I saw it tonight and it was not as great as I expected. It wasn't even that scary. I wanted it to be more scary. But it was good.
Please tell me how that blind girl went through the woods and barely fell? Or didn't get poked in the face or eye? That was just ridiculous.

:roflmao:
anyways, she had her stick with her, maybe that helped, and her hood too, and she did fall, she fell in that hole remember? and she got all that mud on her. blah blah blah
I have it on bootleg too, so I watch it all the time!!! weeeeeee.
-
yeah she had the stick but it doesn't help for stuff that is mid or head high, you know? I do remember falling in the hole that was nasty. But I said she barely fell. I think she should have been falling every few steps but that's just me.

if i remember correctly, somewhere in the movie, someone said that she has a really good sense (a 6th Sense  ) for everything else since she can't see.....i could be wrong though
-
i saw it......can't decide whether i like it or not :-P it didn't really seem to have a plot...i mean, i got the message of the story....but there just wasn't a solid plot line to really follow. some parts were weak, and just not well explained, imo.

I think her father said that when talking to the elders.
because they yelled at him because she was going alone and she was blind and I think thats when he said she had a good sense...?

I saw it last night. It sucked. I want my 10 bucks back.

as you once said, "shut up grandmother"

I saw it on Saturday; I enjoyed it. It wasn't quite as scary as Signs, but it still managed to deliver some great suspenseful moments. I didn't at all feel as emotionally attached to the characters as I did in Signs, but like Signs, The Village was fairly thought provoking. I think it's outlook, though, was more grim.

Hello and welcome to the movies of M Night.
i've only ever seen signs by him, and i honestly didn't find it scary at all :-P in fact i fell asleep during the middle of it, woke up a half hour later, and discovered that there wasn't any progression in the plot line.
so i guess i won't be seeing his movies anymore

His movies are about moods, tension and how the characters respond to them. Not about plot twists or making you jump out of your seat.
They are sociology studies. People who don't like them are either A) too lazy to want to work at liking the movie B) Not interested in sociology or C) Don't get it.

I agree with you. A lot of people I know that went to see the movie were unimpressed because of what the previews portayed, in that they were expecting this"Piss your pants off horror". It's just a good suspense like "Signs" from what I've heard.

true. i never thought of it that way. i assumed he made thriller movies because people always said how scary they were.
i liked the whole idea that he had (*note:spoilers*) - creating an alternate reality and life; trying to be an idealist in a world where being an idealist won't get you anywhere. I guess it's just the ending that bugs me so much. That ending was cheap.
-

Yeah. I heard so many people say things like "That plot twist was so lame" or "I saw that coming a mile away." Well, DUH. If you go in LOOKING for a plot twist you are probably gonna get it.
But that's not the point of the movie.
-
i like the twist, i just don't like how he dropped the movie. it felt like he got tired of filming so he just stopped in the middle of a scene. which may be the point, because it triggers the audience to think about what they just watched, but it still bugs me
-
It was a stupid movie
period.
-
I saw it tonight.
I for one loved it.
Granted the ending was predicable. But the ending isnt everything. I mean is the "water" in Signs that important? not really.
I laughed so much when the girl at the beginning was crushed by Lucious. I know its bad to laugh when someone gets hurt, but that was just cold.
I did jump once or twice during the movie.
magic rocks. pft!

I finally saw it and actually thought it was a really good movie. The twist of the story line and the end when they leave for help was great!

Well...have fun :)
I'm going to see The Village on Wednesday...
Also, there was a documentary on M. Night on Channel 5 yesterday. It was interesting...very spooky. Dunno how much was real though. Apparently he fell in a lake when he was 10 and was clinically dead for 35 mins til he was pulled out and 'brought back to life' 8O

I saw this the night it opened.... I love M. Night Shaymalan (sp?) movies... And even though the previews were a bit deceiving on this film, I still loved it!
