Title: Ender's Game (saga)
Post by: emmy on September 29, 2004, 07:59:04 am
Hmm... my friend got me to read this book over the summer, and I ended reading it and a bunch of the sequels... Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets ...

Very good.  And they're going to be making a movie out of it too :)

Sooo, anyone looking forward to it?  (the movie)  Or anyone read and enjoyed the book?

EDIT: Info about the movie can be found at this site (http://www.frescopictures.com/movies/ender/index.html)

The books are awesome! And I'm sure the movie will be great too!  They set this up so long ago....They were gonna have Haley Joel Osment (6th Sense kid) play Ender.  He woulda rocked, except he grew up...Very sad...lol

Who do you think they should cast as Ender?

Good thing he grew up, I dunno, but I don't like him too much.  Well, no, he is pretty good, but I can't imagine him as Ender.  MAYBE as Bean, but definitly not as Ender.

Isn't Bean like wayyy smaller than Ender tho....hmmm

I think they'd be better off just casting an unknown to play Ender...

As for Bean they'll have to find one tiny smart dude....lol

haha, yah, bean is really little, but somehow that kid reminds me more of him than ender.

but no matter what, the kids are going to be much older anyways, because aren't bean and ender like only six or so when they enter battle school?  i really don't think a movie full of six year olds running around would be too good.  i dont know how the director would do it, but i imagine they would just change the whole thing to make it a bunch of teenagers...

What if they just made the sets big and hired 8-10 yr olds to play Ender and Bean?  That might work.....

I dunno, I just really don't think a bunch of 8 year olds could star in a movie and act well enough to make it a good movie, but thats just my opinion.

It's TBA at the moment.  Wolfgang Petersen was all busy with Troy, but he's supposed to make Ender's Game next.  The script is being written right now.

I heard that they had a script but Orson Scott Card didn't like it, so they started working on another one.  I dunno if that is true though, could just be some rumor.

OSC was working on it himself, but decided to stop, then they hired 2 other guys (Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty) to pen the rewrite.

the next book in the saga is called "Shadow of the Giant" and its gonna be out in March... though on OSC's website the first three chapters have been put up to read!!  :D

From this preview I think its going to be another excellent book!  I was reading the second chapter and was like  8O  8O wow

Yeh, so that book I mentioned above, Shadow of the Giant is out... I got it a few days ago and finished reading it in about a day... but to be honest with you, I didn't like it much.  Well, at least compared with some of the earlier books.  But then again I know people that read it and said it is the best book out of the whole series... so I guess it is just an opinion thing.

One thing is though, I thought this was supposed to be the finale.  The conclusion.  But apparently, a rather large chunk of info was brought up and never resolved, assumedly to allow for a book to follow.

and although this is kinda my emily speaks to herself thread, I met OSC today, he was very nice, and funny too.  Haha, and we chatted in portuguese :)  He talked about the Ender's Game movie and how the screenplay was rewritten a third time, but they are still waiting on Warner Brothers to okay it and move on.  He also mentioned another movie about another book of his which I don't think has come out yet... Queen Latifah wants to be in it (as long as she gets to ride a motorcycle, hahaha)

I believe the order goes Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets and Shadow of the Giant.  They are more politically based, not what is going on at the battle school or anything, but what is going on with Bean and Peter (Ender's brother) on Earth.

yeah, Ender's Shadow kind of ends the battle school stuff. Thanx for the order! :)

Welcome.  I liked the majority of those books, the first three that is.  The two after battle school dealt with the guy Achilles from Bean's past, he was a major enemy / 'evil force' ... the last one was not as good as I'd hoped, a lot of things happening in the background and no real definitive enemy... it somehow reminded me of survivor, lol, a bunch of people struggling and forming secret alliances.

yeah, sounds good. I'll have to pick those up.

I've read Xenocide, which is a story about colonizations on old Bugger planets. It was a good book, but really had nothing to do with Ender or Bean
