So I finally checked out Vanessa's recommendation City of God (http://www.miramax.com/cityofgod/index.html)

I wasn't really sure what to expect. It is a foreign film, but reading the subtitles is cool. It tells the stories of several people over the decades and ties them all together. The movie involes robbery, rape, killing, corruption and selling drugs. It's intense. Kinda long but doesn't seem like it. (2 hours and 10 mins.)

That was my take on it here's another:


Busca-Pe (Alexandre Rodrigues) lives in Cidade de Deus (City of God), a housing project reputed to be one of the most dangerous parts of otherwise magical Rio de Janeiro. He's frightened he'll end up like the countless others around him -- troubled, violent or dead. But his saving grace is his photographer's eye, through which the stories of several people who live in this forsaken "city" unfold. …

Check it out. It's really good.

Everybody seemed to like it.  I watched it and could understand the majority without the subtitles, which was kind of interesting.  I watched it with my other friend that knows a little Portuguese.  Anyways, I don't know.  I didn't like it very much.

I should've seen it since well it's from my country lol
I guess I'll see it sometime. I've heard it's intense tho and maybe that's why I haven't seen it yet. I'm in the mood for light stuff  :wink:

It's on the Starz! Super Pack this month, I checked it out. Excellent film.

haha Emmy, nope, I never watched it... I've only seen a couple of stupid but funny brazilian movies last yr, "Os Normais" and "Lisbela e o Prisioneiro"...

Never heard of either of those movies.  The only two brasilian made movies I've seen are City of God and xuxa e os duendes!  ROFL

its not a me and xuxa thing.  i actually hate her.  my friends little sister wanted someone to take her to see it and I went.  I actually understood it all tho.

I think this was one i liked i haven't seen it yet..mm might look into renting it!!
