Welcome to the Radio & Records national airplay chart report. Katie (aleera84) and I teamed up to bring you the most complete chart coverage at Nessaholics.com, in one convenient thread. Katie covers the Australian ARIA chart which is updated every Monday, and I had provided coverage of the Radio & Records National Airplay charts (for the USA), which are updated every week on or after Wednesday (but are for the music week ending on Friday). The scope of my report is limited to Adult Contemporary (AC), Hot AC, and CHR/Pop formats.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Report Number: 2003-0018
Music Week Ended: Friday May 9, 2003
Report Issued: Wednesday May 7, 2003 at 23:00 PDT
Next Scheduled Report: Regretfully, no further updates are scheduled - please see the remarks under "Closing Comments."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(http://www.continental.com/img/reward/promostar.gif)INTRODUCTION:
"A Thousand Miles" is the song on the current AC chart that has been there longer than any other. Even after being there for over one year, it is still as strong as ever. "Big Yellow Taxi" moves up on AC. While the airplay losses that were previously reported on the Hot AC chart are being reversed, airplay losses are now being reported on CHR/Pop. "Ordinary Day" and "Pretty Baby" are not being charted anywhere.

The Mediabase 24/7 radio station playlists used to compile the chart data is located at
http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/rronline/stationsmenu.asp.
You can use this link to find out what your favorite radio stations in Arbitron rated markets in the USA have been playing in the past week.
(http://www.continental.com/img/reward/promostar.gif)"A THOUSAND MILES" UPDATE:
On AC, the song remains at #5 with 1856 plays (1856 plays last week as well), and is the song that has been on the survey longer than any other. The song first entered the AC Chart on April 26, 2002 at #30, then took a one week hiatus, and re-entered the chart on May 10, 2002 all the way up at #23. In all, it spent 9 non-consecutive weeks at #1, and finished at #12 on the 2002 year-end survey. Over one year after entering the survey, the song is still in the top 5! Way to go, Vanessa!
On Hot AC, there is no activity to report.
On CHR/Pop, there is no activity to report.
(http://www.continental.com/img/reward/promostar.gif)"BIG YELLOW TAXI" UPDATE:

(http://www.continental.com/img/reward/promostar.gif)CLOSING COMMENTS:
At the outset, it was clearly stated that the chart report was issued at Nessaholics.com strictly on a pilot project basis, while a number of factors were evaluated, which include:
1. Readership (as measured by the change in the number of times the thread was read in a one-week period)
2. Interest (as displayed by member comments and feedback)
3. Member base (i.e., is the member base sufficient to generate traffic to the topics?)
4. Message board environment (respect towards one another, organization of forums, support from management and members, downtime/technical issues)
5. Vanessa's chart presence (i.e., is there sufficient data/news to report and/or justify the existence of this report?)
6. Other means of reporting (i.e., is there a better place to report this information if the author deems it worthwhile to do so?).
All of the above-mentioned factors were taken into consideration, and while I thank Katia for providing the space for this report, the result of this pilot project study is that the author feels it is not a viable option to continue the reporting service. In particular, items 1 to 3 were lacking and as a result, the service has been discontinued. It is simply not a viable option to continue this time-consuming service with a readership of 2 or 3 people and feedback from only 1 or 2 people. Other factors were also considered, but I am not at liberty to discuss them here.
I thank the few individuals who gave positive feedback on this report in the past. I am not sure if Katie will continue to update her report on a weekly basis, but in the meantime, I am leaving the most recent report up since the links have not changed for the charts or station playlists. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience it may have caused readers who appreciated the analysis of the chart action. I will still periodically report on her radio performance, but in a more informal manner... either here and/or on Vanessa's message board.
Thank you,
Daniel
