wow.
besides the slightly incorrect lyrics and misspellings and whatnot, its pretty cool.
one cool thing i noticed:
it says "pretty girls in dresses always look sad" next to that big picture of Vanessa in the middle(left side near her head)
it also has strange scribbles next to the lyrics.
the one near "Who's to say" i think says "not a question: no."
meaning Vanessa's telling us that "Who's to say" isnt a question.
heh
cool.
:D
the scribble right after the words "whos to say" i think might be a question mark that was scribbled out.
if you look at it you can see the "?" in it.
and near 'San Francisco'
its like "10 v u y." kinda looks like "lovey" i think she spelled "lovely" wrong :-\ heh.... well.... :-\ if anyone can try to determine what this is, please post.
aright after the word "Afterglow" i think its "hey" with scribbles over it.
near 'Private Radio' its "!'!!!" and the last 2 "!!" have an X over it.
i think this is just Vanessa trying to see if the pen/marker was going to write though :-\
near the ending of "Half a week before the Winter" right above "C'est la vie" i think its "nesoj" kinda scribbled out i donno, if someone can determine what this says too, that'll be cool.
-----
also its cool how you can totally tell this was done with markers of some sort or pen (the boarders)
its really cool. kinda feels like the lyrics typing wasnt reviewed though and rushed.
:-\ oh well nothing can be perfect.
:-p
-
the lyrics typing was DEFINITELY rushed, itz so obvious. the first part of white houses is written in a different font than the rest of the lyrics to all the songs. it just randomly changes i the middle of WH. oh and in CLV, the "strength" within out perfect harmony?? hello?? it is so obvious she is saying "truth."
-
yeah that is weird....you'd think they'd have time to check on these things since the album was pushed back so much
*is proud for noticing pretty girls in dresses always look sad on her own*
-
have we determined that the piano looking thing she is standing infront of is a Harmonium?
Amanda
-
I think so :?
-
Whats.a.harmonium?
-
A harmonium is a small pump organ popular in traditional Indian music.
-
have we determined that the piano looking thing she is standing infront of is a Harmonium?
Amanda
I don't think it is a harmonium. Because from what I've seen harmoniums look nothing like that. Also, if you notice in the promotional pictures of "Harmonium," she has pieces of piano at her feet, and in the picture where she's standing on a stool in front of the instrument, it looks like a piano with parts missing. Rebel Nessa goes destroying her pianos. First it was that guitar... wonder what's next

yup, from the scans i´ve seen and the pics it´s just an old piano a really messed up piano hehe, if I destroyed the front of my upright piano it´s look like that :P
-
The only thing I noticed was that in the credits when she thanks the Nessaholics, the word before is attached. LOL  .

Hmmm maybe a violin! Hehehe I read that she can play a little bit of violin.... And we know that she can also play a little bit of the guitar, right?

Amanda
NO it can NOT be a harmonium they are realy realy small that is just a picno with out the front on they are removable so it is easiter to put stings in or tune it

Several weeks ago, someone I worked with asked if I could print a photo package for her from a single picture. I knew what to do, and I had all the materials. But I put it off, and put it off and put it off. Just scanning, sizing, and printing was all I had to do. Then suddenly one evening I finally did it and took it to her. I was going to try to do it better than she was expecting, but that didn't quite turn out right. The pictures had to be scanned from an inkjet original, so I had to do my magic and it turned out to take little more time than I had first hoped to do it right.
My wife is taking an English composition class in college, and I always help her refine and print her documents, but she has a bad habit of waiting until 11PM on the night before it's due (at 8AM) and we've often noticed various types of errors in the papers after they were graded.
How does this relate? Well, I'm just supposing here that maybe the lyrics poster was put off until the last night before it was needed and that's why it's so unrefined.
The programme/poster in 'Harmonium' is so full of spelling errors and other typos. So don't get all upset if there's a letter or two wrong here and there. One of the first things I noticed after I opened it up is that the lyric type goes suddenly from regular capital and lowercase lettering to capitals and small capitals about halfway through "White Houses":
maybe I'm a little bit over my head
I come undone at things he said
he's so funny in is bright red shirt <-----there's another misspelling there
we were all in love aND WE ALL GOT HURT
I SNEAK INTO HIS CAR'S CRACKED LEATHER SEAT
THE SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE SUMMER HEAT
BOY WE'RE GOING WAY TOO FAST, IT'S ALL TOO SWEET TO LAST
And then it's like that for the rest of the songs.
And by the way, my theory on the seeming random scribblings on the poster are Vanessa's own design and direction notes. For example, she didn't want a question mark written in the title of "Who's to Say" because perhaps it's not a question. And doesn't Vanessa (whom we know to be pretty) look a little sad in her dress there?
-
I have found SO many typos in this book...... :?
Also I dunno if anyone else has said anything about this, but on half a week it's, "THAT HE brings before he runs," not "DADDY". Now the million dollar question....WHO is "he?"
-
I bet the "pretty girls in dresses always look sad" thing was written by Stephan.
-
Have might have... It sort of looks like his handwriting but it's a little hard to tell.

Your's says "Daddy?" Hmmm... strange. Mine says he.

no, you misunderstood.
thats not what she meant.
she was refurring to when we though the lyrics were "daddy brings before he runs" ...
all the booklet thingys say "that he", which is correct.

Oooh, I see. ( I wasn't around for some time, so I'm a wee bit outta the loop here, mind you. ;) )
Yeah, I love the CD totally. It's a lot more mysterious then Be Not Nobody...
Her songs have so many possible meanings...
Oh, and my sister, my husband and me all think that Ben and me running away helped inspire her to write Who's To Say. (You know, she obvsiously knew if she ever signed on to her site... there was apparently that MALLORY IS MISSING!! thread bumped to top the whole while....)
Not to say that she called them up and asked for the whole story and background, but think of it how she wrote Annie. She knew a girl, Victoria, and she was inspired to write about it.
For example:
...shine so bright when you're around...
(how we felt but) they tell us slow, we're too young, you need to wait (which is what our parents continually told us no matter what the circumstances) Well speeds the key and they don't know who we are (becoming so sick of being told how to love and fall in love, feeding the fire to young, so called fast love) who's to say we're not good enough, who's to say that this is not our love (obvious ever present emotions)
mother don't tell me friends are the ones that I lose, cause they'd bleed before you (something I was told was that I need to keep my friends, mainly those who were female, anybody but Ben) sometimes family are the ones you choose, its too late now, I hold on to this life I've found (double meaning I think here, I choose Ben to be my family, the life that I've found and I'm not going to choose my old family over him, my new family)
whos to say we won't burn it out, whos to say we wont sink in doubt, whos to say we won't fade to grey, who are they anyway, they don't know (this whole part is about not being given the chance to fail, therefore not being given the chance to succeed, as well as dismissing the pain it causes to look positively ahead)
and you say we're too young but maybe your too old to remember (something SO true) and I try to pretend but I just feel when we're together (we were allowed to be together with parents and groups but were basically commanded to not feel anything) and if you don't believe me you never really knew us ("we're not too young, why don't you have that faith??") you never really knew (at all)
you and I packing up my room, we feel alright, (THIS DID HAPPEN... Ben and me went back to my house, went upstairs and threw my clothes into suitacases and garbage bags totally calm and ready to do what we were about to do) but we're not welcome (we felt nobody could accept us) soon we'll be driving (2month road trip here we come...) cause they don't know who we are. (feed the fire too much, it explodes)
whos to say we won't stay together, whos to say we're not getting stronger (now that we're gone we'll have our chance to be successful) whos to say I can't live without you (we'll show them now) who are they anyway, they don't know (and this is where their arrogance to accept us brought them)
....stand up boy, I shine so bright when you're around (we showed 'em, and no one can tear us apart anymore.)
Now, I know she didn't know that what she wrote was right on the nose, but I certainly believe that she got an idea or two for this song from what happened.
Anyone else think so?
-
oh yeah, i remember on the OMB all the post about u, so yeah, its possible that its about u, thats cool....
-
im thinking whos to say is about her own relationship which could be very similar to yours
-
From what I know
She said that its a very personal song, so maybe its just a coincidence that you can relate soooo much to Who's to Say.
-
Yeah its probably just a big coincidence, but like you said, its really personal for me too.
Either way this is one of the best songs on the CD....

That's like EXACTLY what my sister and her than boyfriend-now husband did. This new year is the two year mark of when they left! Haha. But yah whenever I listen to Who's to Say I totally think of my sister and her husband cause their relationship is exactly like that. And I feel bad cause my parents are being so stupid about the whole thing. *sigh*
-
Who's to Say definitely describes my brother and his wife as of August. My dad almost never talks to him anymore, and Alison's (my brother's wife) says they're no longer on speaking terms. 8O (lucky) lol
My dad STILL complains about how my brother was way too young to get married, (he's 22) however, my dad was 25 when he got married! psshh such hypocrites parents are. The great news about all this is when I get in a serious relationship or if I decide to get married, my dad will go ballistic, but at least I'll know how to handle it a little better.
-
Is it just me, or did it seem like the lyrics in V's booklet thingy, from Harmonium have a lot of typos? Like the font change in White Houses, the mispelling of Mahogony in HWBTW, saying "got not secrets though I'm told" in She Floats when it is "God knows secrets though I'm told", also the little ending in Private Radio that wasn't even included in there, and in C'est la Vie it says "the strength within a perfect harmony" when it is "the truth within a perfect harmony" oh well, I just thought maybe she would have proof-read it or something, it really doesn't matter.....
Peace.
:? :?

the font change in White Houses,
the font change did annoy me...
saying "got not secrets though I'm told" in She Floats when it is "God knows secrets though I'm told"
and I always thought it was "got no secrets though I'm told"
also the little ending in Private Radio that wasn't even included in there
I think the private radio ending wasn't inthere because it was like the back-up or something, and not the... I don't know, because it wasn't like lyrics.... okay I can't explain it the way I think, but I didn't think it needed to be included

yep, it was quite a topic of discussion around here...

I'm not trying to be picky or anything, I just get alittle bothered that V was not able to make corrections or anything, I guess it just made the booklet seem sloppy, I really wish she had made it an actual booklet, not that fold-out thing, I did like the scribbles around the edges and I liked the big picture in the fold-out, I have that poster in my room, it is such an awesome pic!!!

this isn't it, it is the one on her website, in the opening window

I disagree about the spelling in White Houses being a typo. nessa said there were going to be some beautiful mistakes on harmonium, and I think going from lowercase to uppercase letters was showing how she matured through her experiences in "white houses".
or im just nuts...

ur just nuts...how can going lower case TO UPPERCASE be mature...she didnt type it out.
-
White Houses is roughly about Nessa's experiences in ballet school and how she went through all these different things right?
Well I think that she wanted to have it go uppercase midway through the song to show how she has changed.
but seriously, would someone really be THAT stupid and not notice that they have typed half the song in lowercase accidentaly? Its on purpose....duh

That is a very interesting theory and does sound like something Vanessa would intentionally do, I guess it could (does) all have a symbolic that Vanessa souly knows about....
-
No i think WHs is about Vanessa moving into her NY apartment with her roomies.

Hmm....you never know, maybe we should ask V next time we see her!!! She can totally explain everything to us..... 8)

You mean type the rest of the booklet in lowercase. lol.
