Harmonium drops from 33 to 96 in it's second week. Woah! There went Vanessa's career at A&M!
96 33 2 Vanessa Carlton, Harmonium

:( Too bad.. Too bad.
Shits happen all the time.............. :?
But Vanessa will turn it all
-
I think there will definitely be an upswing in sales within the next few weeks, b/c of the holiday shopping and her touring the radio station X-mas tours, which will give her exposure to a larger audience. Good music, gets around!

I'm pretty sure that is what A&M was hoping when they pushed the date back to early November... but you also have to factor in all of the older CD's which get bumped up in sales during the holiday shopping rush, too. I think that has to factor in to Vanessa's poor sales this week, and will probably continue to factor into the sales in the near future.
As for the radio shows, frankly, she could be hitting a bunch more (that she really should be) that she isn't, which doesn't bode well for sales in that the same artists she is hitting the few radio dates she is doing with, are also doing some of these other dates, which means more sales for them, less for her.
-
They need to release another single ASAP.

Ok, good point. But I am still remaining positive.

Well Stephan also wants Third Eye Blind to put out a double album, a live album and an acoustic album. He also wants to do more production. He also wants to release a solo album. Point being: Stephan has big dreams but he's all talk. He can babble all he wants about starting a lable and being a producer full-time, but I won't believe a word of it until it happens. Besides, I haven't heard a single thing about him wanting to switch to production :?

Yes! I think so too! I think that they should've released the second single a long long time ago. But what's confusing me is that the people of Taiwan are already listening to "Private Radio" while here, in the Philippines, we have "Who's to Say" and you guys there in America have been hearing of Annie? Right? Channel one played it right???? They are confusing the people! :x
-
you could release every song as a single... it won't matter. If it is going to have the same promotion as White Houses, what is the point?
-
Well it's worth a shot. No one here knows how much promotion it'll get, anyhow. Besides, I don't understand how you can say it wasn't promoted. She played the freakin song on GMA, The View, Leno, and TRL; The Biz did a little featurette on her and she went on tour playing both venues and radio stations. How is that lacking promotion?? I think the truth of the matter is that the general public just didn't like White Houses much.

The record label itself did not put much money behind it...and this is coming from a record label person.
-
well what more could they have done?
-
oh sweet jasus.... yup. NEW SINGLE, STAT!!!!!
Poor Vanessa..... she LOVES this album...... I know she doesn't care about the fame and all that but it must really suck to work so hard on something you love and just have it flop.

AND SHE DESERVES HER GRAMMY!!!!!

well what more could they have done?
they did barely any radio shows in a few large cities and most of the ones they did do were only morning shows. she should be on the roster for several more radio shows this winter and she barely did any TV performances... there are many many things she could have done.
have you ever followed an artist before or is Vanessa your first? Most, that want to be extremely successful, do a *lot* more than Vanessa has.
I think part of it is the label focusing on other releases over Vanessa but another part of it is possibly her willingness or desire to do what it takes to be successful.

I <3 teh kaysha lol.
We've talked about stuff like that 251326 different times, and there really is a lot more that she and the label could have done if they truly wanted to try and make her release blow up and be popular in the mainstream. :?
-
Yes, Vanessa Carlton is the first musical artist I've ever been interested in
The thing is, other artists I've been interested in don't have fans that report their every move to the rest of us. I think it's awesome that people actually care enough about Nessa to want to know all the stuff she's doing for her career, but she doesn't seem (to me) to be doing any less than other people I've followed.
But whatever, I just want her to sell more albums, regardless of the single and where she promotes it and where she doesn't. :dances:
-
Katia, i SO get what you're saying here. You know i agree. Natalie, i don't think you quite understand how playing on a few tv shows isn't quite enough to have a hit single.
-

exactly--there is so much more she should/could do.
-
this thing already started bad...
from the moment she first postponed the album, to the fact that she decided to tour solo right before the release- it was cool, but if she used that time for tv shows and Magazine photoshoots , stories and radio shows on hours when tere was ppl actually awake to listen and stuff, would have been better.
I guess the thing we like about her (the anti-fame thing) is what traps her the most, cuz exposure (in the right amount) is vital to being remembered and promoted...
-
Out of the top 100 this week. I don't know anyone with a billboard subscription, so I can't say where she did fall in 100-200, but meh. =\
-

Obviously no, I don't.
But whatever, I personally would be happy to play any tv shows at all. But then, I'm not Nessa, I'm not a rich and famous recording artist, so I really have no idea.
I see that White Houses has potential but I guess America has their heads too far up Usher's ass right now to pay any attention...
*feels like a bitch*
I'm just frustrated. But seriously, I know there are more things she could do but not without exploiting herself... That's all I can think of, anyway... So I guess I'd prefer for her to not be a huge success if it means she doesn't make herself into something she's not.
Sorry.
-
Here's my idea. In the event that the next singles don't turn things around enough, I think Vanessa should embark on a "Starving Artist" tour. She'll go around major cities in the US (New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco), set up her piano on the street corner, and start playing with a little hat on the side of it for donations. The event will be free to walk by and view, with copies of Harmonium for sale in the area. The tour must also be heavily publicized. The logic (or lack of such) behind this is that she'll reach enough people through this sort of "pity tour" that it'll get her the exposure needed to kick up CD sales. Plus, I think it's random enough that the mainstream media will report it at least once, so that should help as well.
:P

I agree with you on that. In the end if she does what makes her happy, that is cool. It is kind of hard from the fan perspective because we all want her to be big, be a superstar, be uber popular, etc. but if she doesn't want to market herself like that, while as fans I'm sure we all could accept that, along with that we also would have to accept the fact that these are the kind of album sales we are going to see because most people are too lazy to go find new music and try out new things. Most people find their adored music artists from TV, radio, friends, word of mouth, etc. and if she isn't wh0ring herself in those mediums, no matter how talented she is, her music won't reach all the people it could.
Thus, again the onus is on us, the fans, to promote Vanessa, spread the word to our friends, wh0re her music for her, etc. if she isn't out there doing it, and if we really do want her to succeed and become an established, popular artist.
-
Right, it's a conflict between wanting Vanessa to be happy with what she's got and wanting ourselves to be happy with her exposure.
But if this is how things will be for Nessa from now on, I'm satisfied. At least SOME people know good music when they hear it.
