Vanessa Carlton has great stage presence and knows how to work a crowd. She's fantastic on stage. I think she has one flaw though and it isn't even a big one.
Just to briefly touch on it she says the word "umm" numerous times while explaining her songs.

So?
You never say "like" or "uh" or "um" or "erm" when you explain stuff? Normal people do that.
-
haha. I have friends that do that ALL of the time. My teachers hate when we say it too.. I guess it could be annoying but I'm so used to everyone saying it, that it doesn't bother me much.

I had a history teacher once that when one of us would say "um" he'd say "Um's an island." But yeah, anyway, "um" is just a habit for some people and it doesn't really bother me at all. I barely notice it cause I'm so used to people saying it. I think it should be made a word in the english language, lol.
-
seriously, I dont even notice it anymore... It's like myself and saying like in every sentence....
-
she also makes a smacking sound in between phrases sometimes, like you do when you're eating.
-
I cannot even believe we're discussing the things that she does when she talks. This is sort of ridiculous.

If you need to get anyone out of the habit just interject with har-mo-ni-umm :P

Or ummm..... BRELLA!!

ummm...

Well, she's usually playing some piano improvisations and talking at the same time. You gotta give her some credit for that. I can barely concentrate on singing while I'm playing a song, much less talk and improvise. I'm not nearly as good as Vanessa though...
-
I think she improvs because she's nervous talking to the audience, not she talks nervously because she's improving :?

Huh? I didn't register any of that.....um.....yeah.....

dont be ridiculous. i think she has flaws, like all of us, and thats what draws us closer to her, to know that shes human too...
ness rocks, irregardless
