My idea is that we put an ad, such as this,(http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/angelheart56/Project135.jpg),
into the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, and all of the major newspapers. Of course, there wouldn't be names of who paid for what or anything... It would cost a lot probably, but I'm sure we could do it, and I think it's a great idea. Any thoughts or opinions?
-
It seems to me like there are too many words, it needs to be shortened....that's my only complaint. But other than that it's a great idea.
-
This is an old one I made
(http://www.freewebs.com/zachowens/savevanessa.JPG)
Except I don't know about the whole Winter 2006 thing, it could be sooner!
-
Well, it wouldnt be that exact one. That is what was put into an ad & patron book for my school.
-
That one is nice too.
-
Yeah, the image is alittle choppy, would there be a background with the ad, or will it just be V?
-
Havent figured that out. I would get more details if people liked the idea...
-
Nice work peeps! Hopefully Nessa will get some decent PR for her new
CD off the bat of the label involved; great that PR back-up is here
-
B/w probably costs less. But that's a really good idea. Once we get a title and release date for her third CD, make a new one. Then we should put it in newspapers the week leading up to the release.
-
but it is really our jobs to be putting ad's in the paper for her new album? Isin't that the record companies job.?...thats kinda what they are paid millions to do. Aren't we the STREET team? I thought it was "street" sorta promotional support.
It would be kinda weird for V to open up the New York Times and flip through and see an add for HER album that she didn't approve of or even see...
but good idea, nonetheless
-
If it's a go, I do plan to run it by Vanessa....
-
Well......I mean what can they really do about it if we feel like running around the streets screaming "GO BUY VANESSA CARLTON'S NEXT ALBUM!!" I don't see waht the problem would be, since they [her record company] aren't doing jack to promote her! We really have to take matters in our own hands...... 8)

We should really just make our own flyers, and just pass 'em out in our home towns and stuff like that...but that isn't illegal is it? (Oh Well....who cares?)
-
flyers wouldn't be illegal to hand out.. The Wreckers' fans passed out flyers in the time leading up to their tour dates last year.
i like the idea of an add in newspapers, but i don't know if that'd be allowed?
-
We should find out if it's allowed, or run it by V first. Once/if it's okayed, it's a fabulous idea.
-
Let me just throw this in: if this is something you want to do, go do it. Once you ask permission from management or any other authority, you're asking to be shut down, 'cause this idea exposes their ineffective approach, and they will not dig that.
You're not taking out an ad in Time, fer chrissake. And if the powers that be want to counter by actually taking out ads of their own, good for them.
Maybe that will get the ball rolling and wake them the f up. You're not slandering by any stretch of the imagination. You're doing a job that others are paid to do, but don't.
No such thing as bad publicity. You're doing a great, great thing, the same thing all of us do in our own ways.

Amen to that Dan  I often wonder how Interscope could recognise talent
like VC when it comes to a record deal, yet fail with the requisite marketing

My unfortunate feeling is that the two departments were not on the same page. Don't forget that getting a record deal means nothing. There are people working on used car lots that had deals. Vanessa, to me, was a proven seller, but the label cared not. They probably had x amount of dollars to promote and went with U2 or Eminem, also proven sellers, but more sure bets. Sigh.

Hmmm.....so flyers is a sure go? Maybe the ad should just be winged? Just see what happens....Who knows, I can't imagine V pressing a lawsuit against her own fans (dedicated fans for that one) but her label is a whole different story....

I second the sigh.
