Title: New Song! (premiered at the Palms, Melbourne gig)
Post by: bumblebee429 on February 17, 2006, 05:58:33 pm
Vanessa premiered a new song last night at the Palms, Crown gig.
from memory i think it's called "All Is Well", or something like that.
it's about how she finds comfort in feeling sad and despressed.
The first line goes "i always sleep better when it's raining".
it's a great song, has an amazing little piano tune at the start.
all i remember about the rest of the song is in that last few lines of the chorus are "i wish i would listen when you say everything will be alright. because it already is"
hope we can get audio of it soon!

p.s. she also mentioned that the thrid album is nearly finished.

just some more details if you're interested:

as i said, the first line goes "i sleep (so much) better when it's raining"
and the second line is about the dropplets hitting the window pane.

after that i was too in awe that it was a new song for any of it to sink it.
but the chorus definately ends in "i wish i's listen when you say everything will be alright. cause it already is"

in the second verse the lyrics end with something about all the colours turning blue.

at the start of the song she said that for the last few years shes been so happy cuz of her music and performing, but she always felt like something was missing. then she realised she found some strange kind of comfort in being sad. so she wrote this song.

it's an AWESOME song. i can't really describe it, it doesn't really sound like anything she's done before. it's really different to the other new songs (best behaviour, pyhom, this time and the one).

for any musically gifted people: the verses are in a dotted rhythm.

I am so pumped for the new record. I get so excited with new songs. Any chance you can post the rest of the concert, or at least Put Your Hands On Me and This Time please? I'd really appreciate it.

i'm so dissapointed with vanessa. She seems to be resorting to formulaic female lovey dovey pop songwriting style. I'm not impressed at all. .... If she uses these new songs in her next album it is almost guaranteed to be sipped underneath the surface of a thousand other competing pop albums. There's nothing that sounds groundbreaking.... A thousand miles, both the song and the video, were groundbreaking even though it quite a simple melody. I don't see Vanessa achieving the same kind of popularity as she did during the ATM period.... I really hope Vanessa can do well in the future, but I think chances are slim after listening to her new compositions.

I think even Vanessa is aware that she will not have the same kind of success as she did with ATM, but seriously, have you actually listened to the new songs?  Her growth as a writer is undeniable, and most of us on the boards are quite excited about the songs being on the next record.
You're entitled to your own opinion but I think some of what you said was uncalled for. She's not writing "lovey dovey" songs unlike a lot of the artists out there at the moment. It's really sad that it's the shit songs that are the most popular, when true artists like Vanessa have to struggle to get their songs heard.

"lovey-dovey" is the wrong word, I'de have to say love-themed.  they do have originality to them. besides, all is well is on a completely different topic :D

There's only so many things you can sing about & love is a popular subject because it seems to matter so much to everyone.  It's not like Vanessa's singing cliche lyrics like "I need you, I love you, would you be mine?"...she's sharing her own individual thoughts about love.  Subject-wise, almost everything's been done before.  There are millions of artists writing about war--each one of them is not unique in doing so.  An artist writes what he/she FEELS.  That, along with V's amazing MUSIC (the melody & piano--wow!!) make her a special artist & a great one!
