Hilary Duff says her music is "hard-edge".
Ashlee Simpson reckons she's "alternative".
I think these claims are laughable, but I'll let everyone have their say...
What is your view?

Hilary Duff doesn't even make her own music. She needs to shut her fucking mouth, to be blunt. Ashlee Simpson doesn't bother me, but she's crazy to think her music is alternative. Bjork is the very definition of Alternative music and Ashlee wanders nowhere near the amount of originality and style that Bjork possesses.

I don't like either of them. I find Hilary irritating, and Ashlee silly. "Love" is not spelt "LOLOLOLOVE" :lol:
However, even if you do like them, (and anyone is entitled to enjoy their music, if they want to do so) you still have to admit that they are not in the same league as Vanessa. Vanessa truly is an artist, and an original one.

I can handle some Ashlee...but they're not rock by any means

:arrow: Neither one is original and Ashlee is always an automatic station change in my car, or any car I'm in for that matter. I'll listen to "Concerto in A Major for Clarinet with Three Missing Pads, Leaking Cork, and Split Reed" for longer before turning it. Duff is at least kinda pretty to look at, but her voice is still rather amateurish.

Her voice? After the pitch-shifter, reverb etc., I doubt it sounds much like her real voice. She has what I call a "generic voice".
I would also classify The Veronicas as "fake rock". Does anyone know of them? THey are big here because they are Australian. They're twins who pose like lesbians in photos, film clips etc.

rock? We need a generic definition for rock..cause it varies. I don't consider it rock.

It's a heard one to define... but I know that just because an electric guitar is in a song, it doesn't make it hard-edge alternative rock, haha

Quite true. My music has (SAMPLED!!!) electric guitar and I'd rather it not be called rock at all.

I like some Hilary, definitely not rock. I love Ashlee. Her music is fun and catchy so I would call it more pop than rock or alternative.

They're not "hard-core", "alternative", or "rock", but some of their music is rather enjoyable.

Neither of them are "rock" (not even close), but they're not terrible. I have to admit I do enjoy the songs Hillary did for Disneymania, and I liked Ashlee's Lala when it first came out (I feel ashamed now, but it can't be changed), but that's pretty much it. I can tolerate Ashlee's music as long as it keep her away from acting.
Yet neither of them comes close the Vanessa's greatness. She's an artist, and they... Well, they're not.

any credit that they should get for any songs of theirs that are catchy or sound remotely pleasing should be awarded to the top pop producers that make their songs what they are. they don't do shit but sit on their ass in the recording studio while everyone else does the hard work.
i remember one episode of the ashlee simpson show where she was in the recording studio and she had a fucken full orchestra of strings playing a beautiful melody that someone else wrote for one of her songs and she's sitting there not even looking at them talking to her friend saying "so i was thinking i would wear these heels tonight..." while someone working on the album was like "look! ashlee! strings!!!" and she still wouldn't pay attention.
i wanted to throw my fucken shoe at the tv screen. do you have any idea how many talented people deserve to be in the position she is in, and she's not even APPRECIATING it?
