Title: To the lucky people in Taiwan and Indonesia
Post by: Rick on August 07, 2006, 09:53:04 pm
(Found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonium_%28Vanessa_Carlton_album%29)

The album's lead single, "White Houses", failed to reach the top forty of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (it peaked at eighty-six) and was the album's only single in the U.S. It entered the top thirty in Indonesia, but a follow-up single there, "Who's to Say", peaked outside of the top forty. "Private Radio" became a top-ten hit in Taiwan, where it was the album's first single.

Is it really true though?
You can't believe everything that's on Wikipedia because anyone can modify an article and some people actually put wrong stuff in there.
So unless I hear this from an official or trustworthy source, I won't believe it ;)

Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

I could go on there now and say "Put Your Hands On Me" went number 1 worldwide.

Most people cite their source...and who would really go out of their way to say it became a top-ten hit in Taiwan?

The same people who once wrote that Vanessa Carlton had a number one hit with "Harmonium" perhaps?

Well, I am from Indonesia, and I don't really know about other V fans in Taiwan, but ... IT DOES HAPPEN, White Houses not only hit the top thirty in Indonesia, it actually beaten up other artist such as Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit and peaked in number 7. As for Who's To Say, I don't remember if it does reach the top thirty, but I remember that in local radio in my country said that, "Who's To Say" is one of many song that get so many request from listeners.

Just a little fact about V that you may not know, 'Be Not Nobody' reach a platinum in Indonesia (150,000 copies sold)

The Wikipedians on there will go through and wipe off stuff that doesn't cite its source from time to time. 8)

That just proves that Private Radio should have been the first single...

I always thought San Francisco or Afterglow were probably the most marketable songs on Harmonium but Private Radio was very pop sounding and could do okay too. Most of Asia have pretty different taste than America. Norah Jones is probably more huge in Asia than here with the amounts of dates in Japan and other Asian countries on her worldwide tour but I don't think she sold out the Hollywood Bowl when she played here.

"white houses" was a nice first single, but i agree with you. "private radio" would have been a HUGE hit

I'm from Taiwan. Private radio was never released as a single here... However, white houses did get extremely heavy airplay and on mtv. If I remember correctly, Harmonium was in the top 5 (maybe 2nd) for 2 weeks.

I'm an administrator on Wikipedia and have contributed to the Vanessa-related pages. I wrote almost all of the "A Thousand Miles" article, which I tried to make really comprehensive and which you can read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Thousand_Miles. I'd like to note that people editing Wikipedia are strongly encouraged to cite their sources and that unreferenced content can be removed at any time. So if anybody here wants to change info in any article then they can do so (obviously), but it would be appreciated if they provided sources when they are adding or changing information. Sources for the Indonesian and other non-U.S. chart positions would be great, because the Indonesian ones aren't cited at the moment.

Now, what would be appreciated even more than that would be if anybody was willing to donate any photos they've taken of Vanessa under a free license, such as the GFDL. You may not know this, but Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia, and we'd really prefer if unfree images (i.e. promotional photos, music video screencaps, album/single covers etc.) were only used when absolutely necessary. Also, you'd get to have your photos used in one of the most popular encyclopedias in the world.
