They mean that it was a huge success, not commercially, to the 179,000 people that bought it....
But what I don't understand is WHY her album would not release a second single, I mean Nelly Furtado's 2nd album had 3 singles in the U.S. and none of them even charted on the billboard 100.... I mean Harmonium is an amazing album and to dump it like that was insane:(
But, looking ahead, so far this new album has great commercial appeal from the songs we've heard but more importantly they're good music too :)

Maybe Harmonium wasn't commercially successful, but it was an album that needed to be made. It's brilliant. I think I love it so much becuase it doesn't sound like a CD that was made for the purpose of being popular. It was made to be artful.
And hey, who knows, if the new album really takes off, Harmonium could sell a lot more copies... it's too late for singles, etc. but it could be appreciated by a lot more people!

^I agree

me to ^^^

need I say ditto?
oh but I have been wondering... why isn't it acceptable to release singles later on? Is there some law against it or something? I mean, it's not like those songs are outdated

Harmonium had a pretty lame promotion, the album itself was more commercial than Be Not Nobody(it had more pop songs) and with a better promotion it could have had a bigger commercial success. There are at least 5 songs in Harmonium that would make great singles.

I know... like any of the first six songs on the album could have been singles.... it's a shame :( But on a positive note I have seen quite a few countdowns that list White Houses as one of the best singles of 2004 so that's good :D

I didn't actually know until recently that Harmonium hadn't really sold well, and I was totally suprised tbh. I pre-ordered it on Amazon.com so I could get it when it first came out (the UK release date was quite a while later I think), and it was well worth the extra money (well ,my sister's extra money, it was released just before my Birthday so it didn't cost me lol). I thought the album was phenomonal, and equally as good if not better than BNN, which is pretty rare as many artists often produce pretty disappointing follow albums if their first was particularly good.
I can't believe it didn't sell more copies as it is so good, I think a lot of people probably don't know about it, especially outside of the US. Fortunately I checked her website a little before Harmonium's release, otherwise I don't think I would have even known about it.
Count yourselves lucky to have got one single, I don't even think White Houses was released in the UK lol
