"Donald180" On the o-boards posted a link to 7's Myspace that had the song on it which is:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=50163679

But the links to the actual mp3 that I made are here(just the song, no 5 minute intro):

http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/267828/MAKELOVETOME.mp3
Gigasize(lasts longer). Scroll down and put in the verification code, then the download button will appear.

Hehe, now that the song is "out in the open", I can tell you that what's Irv promised me not to talk about at the Canal Room show.
Yes, he put the cd on for me to listen to and asked me what I thought about the song.
I told him "Ok, here's the deal: I like the song but it's not Vanessa-ish".
I have to admit I was pretty shocked when he put the record on, I was like o_O
But if it can help Vanessa "remake" a name for herself to the general audience, I mean, why not? And then she can release "Heroes & Thieves" with a bang and her own Vanessa-style we all know and love!!
There you go, now you know the "big secret" everyone was giving me sh*t about a couple of months ago...

ps: thanks for the mp3!

that doesn't even sound like Vanessa.

are you sure this is Vanessa Carlton singing??
 8O

......I need to absorb this more.

edit: ok..
well I think I can kinda tell that it's her.. but at first it just really is a shock because it doesn't sound like her at all... its a new sound.

and it's growing on me, as it should because it's freakin Vanessa!!!
but yeah, I can dig it, rap music is all around me all the time, influence from where I live..the high school I went to, etc., and i've grown to not hate it. I even like some of it. this song... has good beat, and I can like it. :)

hopefully it's not going to be on vanessas record. I truly can say that i hate this kind of music and i am a little bit shocked that Vanessa truly sings this song. I'm not gonna support this music cos it's definetly not my case and not even Vanessa could turn it to. I hope she has succes with it and it will support her record that hopefully has no single influence of this kind of music. Let's see how it will turn out

As far as I know, it's only a "featuring" from Vanessa so it'll only be on Aurelius 7's album.
I don't see why Vanessa would want to put it on her album.  :?

Edit: I actually like the beat and somehow, the song and MAKELOVETOME makes me laugh!!!

Well no, it's the CD version I'm pretty sure because it was hooked to his intro to this album. The static is supposed to be there to add the effect that there's a countdown of some sort from a remote location... like a bomb or something.

That's not true.  At least not on the copy of "Hotel Paper" that I got.  Besides, the songs Michelle did with Santana still go with her other songs ... Santana isn't a freakin' RAPPER!!  Michelle even went "country" and still somehow stayed true to her style.  This just isn't the same.

The big question is... will people like this song enough to pay attention to Vanessa? Well, I think that they will. I listened to it for 4x now and I confess, it is pretty catchy!(Even though I thought it was a joke at first) This is gonna give Vanessa the attention and her 3rd album (hopefully) is going to be comercially succesful.  :D

Well, I'm a member of a message board that listens to R&B and Hip Hop mainly and 90% of the people who have replied in the topic said they like the song and that it gets better after a few listens. Hopefully it'll have a hot video and she'll be promoting the song with 7 Aurelius.

So no, her album wont be like this song.

7 Aurelius is a hip hop producer. His album is hip hop. It would sound a mess if she was in the song on playing along on her piano using HER sound (although, I love the way she's encorporated her style into the song using the piano).

Yes, I do read her posts. But you never know what could happen. They could end up releasing this as a single because hip-hop is huge right now. She could easily change her mind about the record.

*head slap*  Umm... it's ok, but this will not be good publicity for VC IMO.. Her "street cred" as a musician may be questioned and negated with this... I hope they don't promote the fact that she's on this a lot..maybe like the Dido Emineme thing..it will be ok and spawn interst in VC's music..but wait..no Dido hasn't been on the charts in years.... Uhg.. This song is one that'll be playing in clubs where horny people will be grinding and probably won't care... I am afriad people will prejudge her new work by this...

EDIT" For the record, if I heard this song On the radio, I'd think it was catchy and probably sing along with it all the time, but it wouldn't amke me buy a CD..

Umm...Dido has had HUGE success from that Eminem song. She's had two hit albums and is working on her third one as we speak, so that was a terrible example to use.

If Vanessa is recognised from being on this song, then I think it's good publicity and I really don't think it will damage her credit at all. In fact, I think it will show the type of artist she is - diverse. People will hear Vanessa's new stuff too and will think "oh, she was on that 7 Aurelius song? Cool". Let's face it, she's got HOT material and all she really needs is the promotion. She'll be fine.

It is on mine, but I guess it must be another edition then. Sorry. I just figured that artists sometimes put the songs they collaborated on, on their own album, but since I can't think of another example, I must be wrong. I'm just happy it isn't on Vanessa's album :)

this is SO different from what V usually is like. and yes i also wonder what the mtv will be like!!!

but well, ultimately its for V to decide what she wants to sing and what she wants to experiment with. although personally i still prefer the more heroes and theives style, i am all for her experimenting, and so be it if it means doing R&B....after all shes still developing, so i guess this is all in the way of experimentation.

had a hard time believing it was really her though!  8O

Hmm, I don't think it was that different. Probably a little less produced since, maybe, the song wasn't completely done yet.
But the song is basically the same.

Ghisy, what did Irv say when you told him your opinion?

Well, he did mention Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani and said the song should be released as a single (not a Vanessa single though but 7 Aurelius). If I remember correctly, he said this had nothing to do with her album but it's something on the side to make people talk about her again so she can launch her album and people will basically be like "oh but it's Vanessa Carlton!".
Hopefully I didn't make things up cause I don't remember everything from the conversation but it's pretty much it.

Lyrics:
MAKE LOVE TO ME Channel 7 featuring Vanessa Carlton:

MAKE LOVE TO ME
MAKE LOVE TO ME
Some kinda way got an attitude about it
Havin' a bad day your the only one who thinks you want it
Make it go away with what I need 'cuz I got it
You don't have to say it 'cuz I already know the story

Yea, she's goin crazy
I need it and I want it now
Get on it baby
Lemme hear you spell it out
MAKE LOVE TO ME
MAKE LOVE TO ME

What do I gotta do to get you into the moment
Giving you all the signs
But you act like you don't want it, baby.
Don't you feel the energy I need you to get on it
Baby just a hint that I'm throwin' around; I'm goin' crazy

She's goin' crazy
I need it and I want it now
Get on it baby
I guess I gotta spell it out
MAKE LOVE TO ME
MAKE LOVE TO ME

As I wait
As I wait
As I wait for you to go {I wait for you}
As I wait
As I wait
As I wait for you to go

The song was more produced in the begining part until the piano solo- then it just stoped, and had a really bad ending. And that was the basic gist of the convorsation. Ivr said that the song is just going to be a single as Channel 7 (7 Arellius) and vanessa is the feature. he said that he was just worried about the true Vanessa fans. I also remember that he was just saying that it will not really hurt her image- people will not even know it was her when they listen but then they will go out and try to ind out because it is an ambigious female voice. Then they will go online find her and get some of her music. This is supposed to be liniar with her cd release....

There's a lot of people here who are saying Vanessa is just experimenting with the RnB style etc., but, if you look at the big picture, you'll see something else.

She's whoring herself for Gotti who's pimping her to the bubble-gum demographic that she lost due to the poor promotion of Harmonium.

I'm not saying anyone forced her to do this, and she probably had some fun in the process, but the reason it was done has everything to do with image and business and nothing to do with art or exploring a new genre.

I also understand that her actual album won't sound anything like this, but some of the songs might be ruined by overproduction.  The track I heard that Linda Perry produced sounded more like something I'd expect from a crappy Lindsay Lohan album than something from Vanessa.  There were so many extra bells and whistles added to the song that I felt the emotional power of the lyrics were utterly decimated.  I'm hoping the Stephan-produced songs will sound better.

I would have no problem with any of this is I truly felt that it was just a natural musical progression, but there's way too much "other stuff" that's been going on with Vanessa for me to convince myself of that anymore.

I know this is all pretty harsh, but I've been a big Vanessa fan and Harmonium is still my second favorite album, and I haven't really seen this perspective on the goings on stated in a direct manner, so I figured I'd share my less optimistic take on things.

IMO, Vanessa's white coat has finally turned red.  :(

Feel free to take shots at my opinions starting....now!

I think you are overthinking this, Vanessa already said that she wont chage her style, and yeah, some people will think that she sold herself but those opinions will chage after Heroes and Thieves is released. I don't really think that the Linda Perry songs are overproduced but, even if you think they are, you shouldn't worry for the rest of the album because they were recorded about a year before Irv appeared in the picture.

Don't worry too much, I bet you will be pleasantly surprised after hearing the album.

Max, you need to calm down and stop acting like Vanessa took some sort of personal shot at you.
This is a CHANNEL 7 song. NOT a Vanessa Carlton song. Yes, it features her. But I guarantee that more people will say, Have you heard that new song by Channel 7? and not, Have you heard that new Channel 7 song that features Vanessa Carlton? or God I love Channel 7! not God I love Channel 7 featuring Vanessa Carlton!
I really don't think this will do much for her. Cause, you know, the duet with the Counting Crows did so much for her.
Let her have fun, guys. She's allowed to like and embrace hip hop. That doesn't mean she's lost any credibility or talent. We don't know her. She could've loved hip hop this whole time. If you knew before that she was into hip hop, would that have changed your opinion of her?
Honestly, Vanessa is an excellent musician and a super-sweet girl. But it makes me nuts when people put celebrities on pedestals and make them superheroes then get disappointed when they do something that you don't necessarily agree with. She does not conduct herself to please everyone on nessaholics.com. She conducts herself to please Vanessa. Good for her, she has that right. Let her be. Listen to Harmonium alone in your room and dream of the old days. But accusing Vanessa of "whoring herself" and selling out or whatever over ONE song that she probably had a LOT of fun recording because it is not the norm for her is selling her SHORT.

The only song that everyone has heard that's been recorded is This Time. It didn't seem overproduced to me. It sounded so great, personally This Time is my favorite of the new songs. And it might not even be on the album, which is sad.

Have you heard some recorded things that others haven't?

The thing with this industry of music is, you can be here one day and gone the next. Like someone said, Vanessa is a business woman and she has to put her career and what's best for herself first. Unfortunetley, people do not appreciate REAL music anymore. When you see a music video, there's always something sexual going off, whether it's women grinding down on men, or just simply women wearing a lack of clothing.

As we all know, Vanessa is a smart woman and she understands and knows what we, her fans, want from her. She knows the type of sound we want and I honestly believe she'll stay true to herself. I think that because she's now signed up to The Inc, however, she's been able to broaden her horizons and grow as a musician and Irv has helped her by doing this.

The single "M-A-K-E-L-O-V-E-T-O-M-E" is a very different sound for Vanessa and people on other forums like the song, which is a good thing. I understand where Irv is coming from when he says that he hopes it'll get a buzz around her and get people asking. Hell, I've already had people asking me who she is, so the song is doing something right at least.

This is 2007 and you're aware of how fickle the music industry is. Vanessa is doing something that will help her in the long run. I'm sure this isn't a permanent position she's chosen to direct her music in, or that she's about to sell out or anything like that, I just think she's made a smart business decision and had fun with it along the way.

GO VANESSA!

It's not just this song that annoys me.  It's everything.  It's that version of This Time that, IMO, turns a decent song into a boring radio song.  It's the way she blindly accepts that Irv just "happened" to show up and just "happened" to love her as if he had no clue who she was...that guy is way too successful to have not known exactly who Vanessa is, what her situation was and that he could make her big again if he pushed her to a bubble-gum demographic that, based on her previous efforts, she isn't really right for.  I have nothing against hip-hop or her doing a hip-hop song.  I actually think it's kind of funny.  But, based on everything that's going on, it just seems that the priority is image and sales and not music...and this song just goes on top of that heap.

I'm still a fan and I'm still looking forward to the next album (although my expectations aren't as high as they once were).  I'm not making any statement about her music (other than I didn't like Perry's This Time).

And I don't put her on a pedestal.  I'm not "Annie." And if I did put her on a pedestal, I wouldn't be questioning what she does.  I'd be supporting her no matter what.

I do not have anyting against an artist selling a ton of records.  I don't dislike someone for being popular or marketable, and I don't hate Vanessa. I just hate when commerce infringes on art and I feel like that's happening with her now whereas, I didn't in the past.

All that being said, after rereading my post I agree that I am overreacting and selling her short, but all that stuff I wrote in this post is why I reacted the way I did.  But still, I shouldn't say she's whoring herself or a sell-out until I hear the album and see how she goes about promoting herself at that time.  And even if her songs are all overproduced and radio friendly for kids to like doesn't mean I have any right to cut her down if that's what she wants to do.  I just get frustrated when an artist with the potential to make music that I love ends up doing something else.

Sorry for the long post!

i think what many of us are forgetting is that, like one person said, vanessa carlton is a business woman. why do people get jobs doing things they love? to make money and to hopefully enjoy doing things they love.
i know i wouldn't discredit a person in another field of business (for example, web design)if they had changed something they did with their own job or tried something new.
also, it's really unlikely that vanessa has another job, and while, based on her previous record sales, she most likely isn't struggling financially, she is a young woman who needs to KEEP making money.
this song probably seemed like a great way to recapture much deserved attention and to draw in new fans.
vanessa has always come off as a confident person who knows what she wants and what she needs and what she needs to do. so, i think we need to look at this from perspective other than one of the enraged fan at the "sell-out" artist.

by the way...i don't really think vanessa's a sell-out

another thing, one of the points of signing to a major label is to become marketable.  you either want to be a popular artist or think the music you make is going to be popular. there's nothing wrong with it.  if vanessa didn't want to be marketable, she probably would have gone to an indie label instead of a major one.

Forgive my erroneous appraisal of Dido and her career   I actually bought her first album after hearing the theme on Roswell... I didn't eman to disrespect her..

*I* don't have much of a problem with VC doing different styles to make money (hey, where that bway musical?) and/or explore other genres. i am just concerned with the industry publications who will jump on this like rabid dogs.... There's already some strange gazes based on her switch the INC. Business is competitive.  I just hope she and her people are prepared to deal with what this strategy will entail.

As long as VC doesn't dance around half-naked in a music video to try to sell her talent and music (which many hip hop and pop artists utilize to sel their records), I will support her and be open to like and not like the music she makes. on BNN and Harmonium there are songs I like, there are songs I love, and there are songs I don't like.  This is true for just about all records. Sex sells for cheap, but sensuality keeps people listening and taking you seriously.

The first time I heard it I didn't like it. The second time I was ok with it. Now I realize I've heard a lot worse come out recently as far as rap music.

I can see the song having some radio success.

As for V doing the chorus vocals, that's a fairly common thing on rap/R&B tracks these days. That doesn't mean she is going to be a rapper now or this is going to have a giant impact on her career for better or for worse. If we hear a track by her that sounds like this, then we can all begin to knee-jerk. Until then, I'm not going to worry about it.  :)

Personally I think it is good for Vanessa, like these other people said, she  is making a business move, the aim for this single is to reach the "black community" (remember White Chicks, "This is the whitest song ever!") that way she can make more fans. I think the song is catchy, and not all songs on the radio are crappy. I guess it just depends on what you like, if you don't like Vanessa's new stuff because it's not her or whatever bullshit, then that's your own fault, not hers, people change over the year, we can't all stay the same. If V is dabbling into different things - oh well. And I DO NOT think she is WHORING herself to Irv. She is making a business move, as is Irv. It's not whoring yourself if you sign with someone who is going to help your career....IDK that's just my take and I just get pissed when people....oh well. (Nevermind) I just think change is a good thing, and if you don't like it then, ADAPT.

I have to say that I'm starting to like the song and I understand the business movement that she is doing, however if she ever makes and album that has a majority of M-A-K-E-L-O-V-E-T-O-M-E songs I won't buy it, because the reason I became her fan is that her music is diferent from everything else we listen on the radio, and if she looses that I'm not going to spend my money in a cd that I wont listen to.

What makes me happy and keeps me calm is that she already said that she won't chage her style, and we have "Put your hads on me", "Heroes and thieves" and other new songs to trust her words, so I'm not worried.

I am extremely happy to know that Vanessa has finally compromised to further her career in the pop world. Some months ago some people were pouncing on me when I said that vanessa had to somehow change her approach or learn to deal with more collaborations to reach a wider "money making" audience. Now that she's done this I guess everyone doesn't have much of a problem with it anymore :) Anyways, this is great news. Vanessa has really grown the most in this stage and I can see her using this as a great opportunity for her music.

However, I am not saying this song is good. To be honest, I have to say it's a piece of trash, but if people dig it, then good for them-- we all have our tastes and I respect that. There seems to be a trend for low fi, simple retro sound with quite unsophisticated lyrics in the rap world today (e.g. Gwen Stefani, Nelly furtado's Man eater... and countless nasty songs that I am not going to name). As a jazz and classical composer, rap has just been stripping and stripping away so many elements of good composition...

BUT considering the pop world's status right now, I would say Vanessa is making a very smart move, and I cannot wait the day when she comes back into the spotlight. Big congrats to Vanessa.

If you want you can visit http://jsbachsonata.blogspot.com for an in depth commentary on this new song and current pop trends in general... Warning: the blog post contains very strong views and as a vanessa fan you may be offended so read at your own discretion.

Feel free to take shots at my opinions starting....now!

this is SO funny!  I really love this thread and the fact that it's 7 pages in such a short period of time.  I think that is really cool because it shows how many people totally CARE about Vanessa enough to voice an opinion.

I have some thoughts on the entire thread.

First off, there is NO WAY to draw a parallel to Dido and Eminem.  Dido has been INSANELY successful with both of her albums and I *personally* think Eminem really did a lot to help her career get started but she has carried it on her own.  The rap industry is huge right now and Vanessa would be crazy to ignore it... also, now seems to be the time for collaboration between hip-hop and anything else.  Remember though, Eminem sampled Dido's song "Thank You" (it wasn't something "featuring" Dido) and Eminem already had a huge footprint.

Secondly, there is no way to compare what Vanessa is doing with Nelly Furtado.  Nelly released her single with Timbaland who (like Eminem) has a huge footprint already.  Who is Channel 7?

Third, i think Irv is awesome.  He is totally right that this single won't do anything to hurt Vanessa's image for anyone new and that his only concern is with the 'hard core' fans.  In the end, Vanessa is just a musician, there has been so much ad-hoc collaboration where artists bump into each other in the studio and get sampled on each others CDs.  Nelly released a cover of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy and she recorded "All Good Things" with Chris Martin.  I think the average population likes hearing their artists explore different music genre's and a small subset of the population will judge Vanessa for it, i think it is well worth the risk.  Everything I have seen Irv do seems to be in Vanessa's best interest... FINALLY a label that is HELPING her!!!  Also, she needs to target the younger generation if she wants to sell albums... that is where the business is... and that just happens to be where hip-hop is.  The cool thing is if they can use Vanessa to bring to the younger generation music other than just hip-hop!

Anyone that thinks Vanessa was "forced" to do this is crazy.  She has a volitional consciousness.

As for my opinion on the song, i agree with Tricia... Vanessa cracks me up!  It was totally her!  One thing i've always like about Vanessa is her voice is unique.  The only thing I think Irv and team could do better to "soften the blow" with the hard core Vanessa fans is not spring it on people.  Start the discussion earlier with a slight heads up.

I don't think I will listen to this song very often but it has all the right components to be successful.  The beat is catchy; the lyrics are repetitive and not very complex, etc.

I think it's important that we HELP Vanessa make this a success which means we stand behind her, help promote this single and get the momentum going prior to HER CD being released.

\m/ on Vanessa!

p.s. Nelly Furtado's new style is cool.  Her songs are catchy and the beats are tight.

Gee, whizzicals, y'all!  Y'all had me worried there.  It's not nearly as bad as you had me thinking.  Although had I heard it elsewhere, I wouldn't have picked out Vanessa's voice until toward the end.  I have to say she sounds downright yummy in this track.  I would say it seems to have more of a sci-fi/action beat to it than hip-hop, exactly.  She just sounds so yummy! :D

i see the parallel but i'm not criticizing. they are free to make whatever music they want and vanessa is not taking this route with her album, so i don't see the big deal.

I haven't made up my mind 100% about this, but here is what I think...

The song is...not that great(as I read many of you agree), I don't even think it is that catchy (I've heard it about 3 times, so maybe by the 20th time it will become catchy?)
But the problem is, I feel this is one of those songs(like tons of other out there) that underestimates both the hip-hop/rap audience as well as the pop/singer-songwriters fans, it's is not that different in style, rythim, lyrics, content, nothing. Maybe an amazing video could help the song, who knows?.We've heard this sound before in diferent voices, so I understand v might want to have her version of it to help her carrer a little, it's not a big deal...I just feel like I(personally) shouldn't praise this song or listen to it just because vanessa is in it, I'm not here to blindly or deafly support and promote something I don't like.
But I'm sure this has nothing to do with her album, so let's just wait for that to come out before any further judgment.

I hope the whole "Vanessa wasn't forced to do this" thing isn't a response to my post, because I clearly state in it:
Quote from: "abbottANDcostello"

I'm not saying anyone forced her to do this, and she probably had some fun in the process

I also don't care that she's featured in an RnB song just like I didn't care how Regina Spektor threw a punk song in the middle of Soviet Kitsch and I don't care how Ani DiFranco frequently experiments in different genres.

What bugs me is the overpromotion.  She's being handled more like a product than an artist right now and I'm just not used to that.  Art and commerce are very strange bedfellows, but in the modern music industry (which is controled by just four conglomorates) one must find a happy balance between music and business in order to be successful.  Some find  a way of exploiting this balance more effectively than others.

We are all aware of how poorly Harmonium was handled, but some are suggesting that this album hurt Vanessa's chances of longevity in the music industry because of its modest chart and sales success.  Some are saying that becoming a HUGE star will be good for Vanessa because it gives her a better chance at longevity; I would argue that history proves otherwise.  Being successful is good, but there is a fine line one must walk.  What usually happens to artists that are big-time chart toppers and sales earners?  Who here remembers The Carpenters?  They had enormous success in their prime (much more than Vanessa ever has).  Who here has heard of Bob Dylan? (okay, that's kind of a stupid question).  He had almost no success on the charts in his prime, but he's still around.  I think Rolling Stone even named his most recent album the best of the year (not that what RS says really matters, but it does support my point that he is still around and famous for his current work, not just his past accomplishments).

The point I'm making is not that business success is bad for an artist, but it depends on what kind of success that artist gets.  Because, if Vanessa gets super famous because of brilliant marketing, she will be viewed as a product and not an artist.  That won't matter to us as long as we keep getting new albums (REGARDLESS OF WHAT KIND OF MUSIC SHE DECIDES TO MAKE...her evolution as an artist has nothing to do with my concerns, taste is an individual thing and no one should rip her for doing what she wants--I never did, but some people seem to be interpreting my post that way).  If Vanessa's success becomes more the product of marketing than art, her potential for greater longevity is severely compramised because Vanessa isn't going to be gorgeous and full of energy her whole life.

Remember, I'm not saying that Vanessa being on some RnB song is wrong or bad.  And I'm not saying that anything being done right now is wrong or bad, but if one looks at the big picture, this is a very slippery slope she's on.  I'm a fan like everyone else here.  I'm not ripping Vanessa, I'm just suggesting that, based on what I've learned as a Media Studies major, Vanessa is heading in a direction that could work out extremely well for a while and then blow up in her face in the long run.

4) I saw Nelly Furtado live a couple weeks ago and she was rad.  Maneater was one of my favorite songs of 2006.  Because of it's artistic merits?  No, because it was fun and catchy and made me want to dance, which made me happy.  And to me, that's all that matters.  V could do much worse in musical choice than to make music that makes people happy.
5) I love being reminded why I'm a NESSAholic.  This chick just rocks my socks.  The kind with toes even.

I think what some of us meant with the Nelly thing is that she went from "im like a bird" & whatever other pop songs she had like that from her first cd to hip-hop songs like "Promiscious boy" & "maneater". Vanessa goes from one of the biggest pop songs in the world "A thousand miles" & "white houses" to the hip-hop track make love to me. It doesn't matter if one hip-hop artist is well known & ones not, that doesnt have to do with anything (Channel 7's song could still be a big hit since it has V in it), fact is they both went from pure pop, to hip-hop in hopes to get more popular when it definitely worked for Nelly, but people are already saying how funny it is Vanessa is on irv's label (there's a whole thread about it on a popular Kelly Clarkson fan site if you want me to give it to you.. theres not ONE good response). & I know she said she wont dramatically change her style (even tho she did with this song).. just saying.

Not to mention this response from a promosquad member when i posted the song to see what they think
Quote
of all the labels...she goes with Irv Gotti...i mean...y not Star Trak, or Good Music, or even Blackground, at least with any of them she woulda had close inner label ties to strong creative teams, BUT NO, she seems hell bent on ending what was once a promising career...

So it probably wont help her career from the responses she's already getting in my opinion.

^^ Those are just assumptions though. I mean, you can't really make an opinion on what her album is going to sound like based on "M-A-K-E-L-O-V-E-T-O-M-E" can you? We've heard Vanessa play a lot of songs which the majority of us, if not all, love and we've heard those two recordings that those girls posted and we've seen the chemistry between Vanessa and Irv and we've even had Vanessa say she's not changing her sound, etc. SO, I think if we are going to be basing our opinions (personally, I'll be waiting until I hear her single) then we should take into account ALL of the above.

The people on that Kelly Clarkson forum must not know all of that stuff I mentioned for them to be saying "she seems hell bent on ending what was once a promising career". Irv is building a label that isn't purely just rap, R&B and hip hop anymore. He's basically starting from scratch almost. If all is as it should be, all Vanessa really needs from his label is promotion, which is what lacked on the last album. I mean, Vanessa definetley has the material, and production should be really good too (I understand Irv and 7 are helping produce, but I doubt they'd be doing anything too hip hop on there lol) and so if Vanessa is promoted right this time, she can do good with this album. This really is make or break for her I think, and I 100% believe in her and that if she receives the right promotion, she'll be a hit.

I've had a lot of people who listen to R&B and hip hop ask me about Vanessa and have even asked me to upload some of her songs (8O :D) after hearing that Channel 7 song she's done, so I think she's definetley getting something out of it. One person even wrote:

"I actually kinda think it's tight "

So yeah, she's getting a buzz around her and even though it's a small one, it's expected simply because the song hasn't been sent to ad's and radio yet, no video, etc, etc. I'm interested in seeing what the video will be like too. It'd be interesting to say the least.

I know a lot of people on other forums were confused as to why V would sign to 'The Inc', but a lot of them (these are people hwo listen to R&B too) understand it's a good move for her and believe that if she's going to make it big, then Irv can do it. But like I keep mentioning, she just needs really good promotion. She's already got hot producers (7, Irv, Linda Perry and Stephen) and we all know how talented Vanessa is, so I'm just gonna keep my opinion until I hear the first single and what direction she's going to go in. I'm REALLY excited about listening to the "Heroes and Thieves" album too. I have a really good feeling about it.

Okay guys, Nelly Furtado was always interested in rap and hip hop stuff. It isn't like that came completely out of left field. The first time I'd heard of her was when she was on Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" remix, and that was right around the time her Whoa Nelly CD came out, give or take 6 months on when that single was released.

Another thing with this track is that this isn't Vanessa's track. They may not even mention it is her on the vocals when the song gets radio play. It is very common these days in rap/hip hop music to have someone not from that genre on your track. No one thought Tim McGraw was going to start rapping full time  when he was on Nelly's track, did they?

Don't even get me started on the peeps who think V is making a bad career move by signing with Gotti. Both Gotti and V have nothing to lose and everything to gain by their collaboration, and considering Gotti's previous track record of promotional sucess and the fact his label will be willing to put a large sum of money behind him, I wouldn't bet against him.

At the end of the day, we need to let V be V and have faith in whatever she does. As Mannie Fresh would say, if you don't like it, don't buy it. I personally will continue to support V in whatever direction her career goes, just as I have up to now.

People are freaking out JUST because she's on the label. No one's even heard the music. When we hear the music, then we'll know whether or not the Inc was a positive change for her.
I wouldn't say success is not an option just because a Kelly Clarkson promoter said she'll ruin her career.

i'll simply say this:

GO VANESSA!!  heck, look at all the buzz she's generated around herself just by signing with the inc. and then participating in this song.  they're talking about her on kelly clarkson's website?  then it's probably safe to assume people are talking about her elsewhere.  i don't think this song is indicative of a music-style change for v.  in my personal opinion, i think it's already doing what it was intended to do:  get her name out there to a larger and broader audience to draw in new fans.  it worked when she toured with stevie nicks, right?  and yeah, she probably had a lot of fun doing the song, too.  nothing wrong with that.  like others have said, from the other new songs we've heard, i don't expect that the new album will be a big departure from the v we've come to know and love.  and if she does branch out and change on a song or two, there's nothing wrong with that, either.

the general impression i've had from reading what fans have said and from interviews v has given is that SHE is the one in charge of her music and she will get her way creatively.  i have faith in v.  i don't think she's selling out, just calling some attention to herself -- attention sorely needed after harmonium's lack of promotion.

and hey, after hearing this song, i just can't wait to hear/see what surprises v has in store for us next!!   :o  :)

I don't think we should be so worried, I mean the targer audience of this single is not Vanessa's fanbase, also if "Heroes and Thieves" is released without bringing Vanessa back in the map before(wich I hope this single will do) it may not receive much attention and become a new commercial failure for her, so I think this is a good thing, I don't like the song and I won't listen to it but I hope it becomes a hit.

Yep, I remember hearing Nelly on a lot of urban stuff too, so for people to say she sold out, etc is bullshit simply because she's always been into urban music one way or another, only she's been able to encorporate it onto her album (and I wouldn't even say "Loose" was urban...it's more to the side of pop than it is R&B - great album though).

I agree with everyone else on this page too. Definetley.

It sounds just like Vanessa on the track, except you can tell they fiddled around with the vocal in the "MAKELOVETOME" part. Other than that, how can you say you couldn't tell it was her? I would have known right away even if no one had told me.

It's pretty annoying that you all are so concerned and upset about her image when we have heard songs that are supposed to be on the new album, and they are Vanessa's style still. She isn't selling out. I bet they were just like hey we need a female vocal for this song- how about it? It might be fun. I bet she had fun making this song. And it's not a bad song for the genre it is. I like how her voice is actually almost as prevalent, if not more so, than the other guys. And he isn't rapping the whole time either. I don't mind it at all. And it's not even like the, "Come here bad girl and give it to me because you're so naughty and you like to be spanked" vibe of most hip hop. It seems lyrically like these two people are in a relationship which I think is kind of nice to hear. It's not like "Promiscuous".

it wasn't a promoter, it was just a bunch of Kelly fans basically saying the same thing. The other site i mentioned was called promosquad (totally different site where the whole point is to rate music), where i said i asked the fans at that site & that was the first response so far. Thats why i'm worried, cuz its already getting bad responses.

We shouldn't even be worrying about the song anyway, to be honest. If it bombs on the charts, then it's 7's problem, not ours. I mean, yeah, it's going to be a shame for Vanessa (not that she'd be too bothered IMO) but that's it. We should just gear ourselves up for HER first single and get ready for that. Seriously, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it does well, then fantastic, if it bombs, then oh well. She's not exactly popular to the point where she's got everyone excited about her new album, so it wont make much of a difference anyway.

Okay I tried to read all 9 pages, but it's just not happening for me right now.

I don't think this is a HIT song, but I think it will last on the hip hop stations, if that makes sense. (I think it could be a hit though if it had a more recognizable beat in the background, rather than that weird synth thing that's going on, which isn't catchy at all) I really like it a lot, and yea, V cracks me up too.... who didn't see this coming? This is just a different genre of music, what's wrong with exploring it?  It's not her song, she didn't write it, she's just singing in it, and I think this song really shows her off in a good way-- she sounds damn sexy! I'm loving her in the 2nd verse "what do I gotta do to get you innnto the moment" And yea, there's probably gonna be a vid, and she's probably gonna shock us all again. I think her voice is entirely recognizable too, whatever. This is good dance music... I can't wait to hear her in the clubs!!!

does anyone know for sure which is coming first? This song, or one of v's new ones?

I could be wrong, but I interpreted the above comment about openmindedness as referring to the poster who implied that Eminem, etc, can't really be considered music, when in fact it is just that: music.  Just because you don't enjoy that style of music doesn't mean you can say it's not music.

For the poster who believes Eminem can't be considered music, I give you this, the definition of music:

The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

Off to science...

She's signed up to Irv Gotti's record label 'The Inc' (but is still keeping the old Vanessa sound). She's gonna be releasing the new album, "Heroes and Thieves", in Spring time (hopefully) which will feature the songs 'Hands On Me' and 'Heroes and Thieves' (we're unsure about the rest). With this song, Vanessa's just trying different things, etc so the album wont sound anything like this.

Just to let you know, even though i say that Eminem and Jay-z have got the some of the best rap lyric skills out there does not mean I like them. In fact, I hate rap. I am looking more at the music from a critical point of view not a personal point of view.

And I have to agree that rap might not be considered music given the fact that it lacks the element of melody. However, hip hop is expanding and with the small female interludes that are popular in rap "songs" (a shocking paradox), the void in the melody department seems to be fulfilled, though somewhat horribly.

I know people will cringe at this thought, but rap is more closely related to poetry than it is to music. Well, I guess it's just the state of the world that has somehow allowed for this form of art to barge into the music department.

i think every artist will go through many obstacles and shifts to find their identity and i give vanessa huge props for trying different things.

okay, so I guess you need the definition of melody, too:

//a sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying//

even though it's spoken~sung word, each word and syllable is a note. Maybe a G, then a G# or A even! The voice is an instrument, and everything coming out of it is melodious. Just say the word 'melodious' and you'll understand! haha

I was just continuing the line of definitions... see we defined music, then we defined melody... and then yea I was kidding asking you to definte satisfaction.... another lame joke I guess. I hope I'm not offending people on here! I feel like I have a reputation now as some sort of perverted pot head or something- well, I'm neither of those, seriously... I quit both a while ago haha. This is TMI Tim, but yea, just wanted to clear that up.

I just really like chatting with y'all, even if it's not relevant, funny, or logical.  Sorry about the y'all. (<<<see?-- example.)

If you're worried about offending someone (since, let's face it, it's easy to do on message boards, especially because it's difficult to tell the "tone" of a post), just do what I do:  Overuse the smilie faces!   :D  :D  :D  :D

No, no, no, silly!  It's not that when I use smilies I'm actually BEING rude ... I use the smilies just in case somebody misinterprets what I'm trying to say & gets offended.  The smilies indicate I'm not pissed off or being bitchy or anything.  Just stating my humble opinion.   :D

Well, it's Channel 7's debut album so maybe they will release M-A-K-E-L-O-V-E-T-O-M-E pretty early so that people get to know him before the album is out, maybe by the time the album comes out they will be promoting the second single.

This is the version that IRV played for us in NYC. I like this  one a lot betterr. It has a slight beat that is catchy, and it has class crap in the background. I beleive this is the version that he is going to release. The only thing is that the CD did not say MAZERATI or what ever on it. It was a common green maxwell cdr lol

I want to see it all...
Do I have to make you crawl?...
I want to do it all...
I know you like it how I gnaw...
I want to see things I never saw...
Girl, you make me tall... (sorry)
Anything with the world 'ball'...

......

I'll suck you off with a straw...
