Title: Harmonium + 1 [Ltd. Reissue]
Post by: Villanelle on January 31, 2007, 03:43:00 am
Hello everyone!

This is my first post on this forum and I was wondering if any of you could help me.

I've been wanting to buy Harmonium for ages now, but since it's nowhere to be found in stores here (I'm not from the USA) the only way to get it is online.  So I'm doing some research and I read everywhere that I have to make sure to get a version which has the U2 cover "Where The Streets Have No Name" on it, because it's so beautiful.

In any case, I found this Japanese version which is advertised as Harmonium + 1 [Ltd. Reissue] (ASIN: B000BDJ0O8) (note: I'm not talking about the normal Japanese version nor the Japanese special edition that also includes a dvd), but I can't seem to find a track list anywhere, so I don't know if it has the hidden track "The Wreckage" on it or the aforementioned bonus track "Where The Streets Have No Name".

Does anyone have this Ltd. Reissue version and would that way (or any other way) be able to tell me whether or not it contains those two tracks?

Thanks!

The Wreckage is basically not a hidden track at all.
there was zero effort to hide the fact that it exists.

so i'm going to just guess that yes, it probably means both those songs will be included.

Well, according to the seller, neither of the tracks are on it... however, I don't really believe he told me the truth, for one because I was under the impression it's basically a given that "The Wreckage" is on it, and I think he's just trying to get me to buy the expensive special CD + DVD edition, which definitely has both tracks (but is as I said expensive and would also expose me to having to pay customs, making it even more expensive).

In short, that "The Wreckage" is on there, I don't have much doubt, but it's definitely -not- a given that the U2 cover is on it, hence my question and I figured the best way to find out is from someone who owns this version...

Ok, I think this Ltd + 1 edition is basically just a re-issue of the original Japanese edition for Harmonium. They usually re-press the cd and sell it cheaper, I just don't get why they call it "limited" (maybe because the price drop is just temporary?)
Owning both versions, I'd strongly advise getting the cd+dvd edition: it can be found at a reasonnable price now on Ebay. ;)

no.

wait, is the dvd seperate? if so, then yes it should do.

otherwise no, as it's a CD-ROM

no, the DVD's not separate. As far as I know, it opens up as a separate video only when you put it in you computer.

ah ok. yeah it's a CD ROM then and so no, you can't put it in your DVD player.

on the Japanese version i beleive the video disc (dvd) was seperate. but the issue with it was the region of the dvd does not work on most standard western dvd players.. so unless you have a computer, or a fancy dvd player i doubt it will play

Yes, there were 2 distinct editions in Japan:
- just the cd (if I remember correctly, this version has the video for White Houses, I'll check and edit my post if needed when I'm home)
- the cd + dvd edition that has "Pleased to Meet You" on a separate dvd-video. But be careful, the dvd is an NTSC region 2 disc, meaning it'll work for Europe but not for the US if you don't have a region-free dvd player.

VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) doesn't care about region encoding, and if you use VLC, neither should you.

Of course, if you're playing your dvds on a computer, region encoding is not a problem anymore. I was speaking for people who own a dvd player ;)
Now let me quote myself and also correct what I wrote:

Ok I was wrong: the regular cd edition of Harmonium in Japan DOES have Pleased to Meet You as an extra, encoded in quicktime.

That is correct but it's this edition that has the video for "White Houses" as an extra (.mpg format) on the cd. And I just checked again: the dvd is indeed region 2 coded (a lot of music dvds aren't usually though).
