^Am I the only who thinks a 5th grader could have written those lyrics? The rest of the song seems a little better lyrically, but for a first verse that is rather weak.

Has anyone noticed that Vanessa's been incorporating the melody of the vocal line within the piano accompanyment in her songs lately? I first noticed that with Hands On Me, and in the clip of Home you can hear the notes  of the melody she's singing in the piano too.

I usually really dislike it when artists play what they sing, but it works well on these songs, especially Home.

It's just a style change in her writing that I've noticed.

Sorry for the double post but... you guys are all probably going to think I'm on crack or something... but the clip of Home just makes me think of "When You're Alone" from Steven Speilberg's movie "Hook", and I love that movie because it was a big part of my childhood when I was a kid, I was obsessed with pirates and Captain Hook. lol

Fools is a mix of HOM and HWBTW
the chords are in the same progression as HWBTW and the same order as HOM if that makes any sence...

When I play HOM House, and FLM I can go to each of the other one very easily... well with the keys all the same you can not tell the same... You can go from FLM right into HOUSE to HOM and back.. I made a fun remix, I was going to load onto youtube, but i dont feel like doing it right now

I can't listen to the clip right now. Anyway, I'm not talking about the piano chords, I'm talking about the vocal style. If you don't acknowledge that "almost identical" series of notes she sings in each one, then I think you must be deaf. The singing there is very, very similar.  8)

I think the two clips to sound VERY similar as well....i was saying that in another thread...but i cant remember which one....they sound like they could belong to the same song..

I know a lot of us are like "What" hearing that house might be the second single becuase we thought that Hands On Me was going to be the second... I just thought about it, and IRV said in New York that House might possibly be the first single- I think I wrote about that in the Canal room thread...

Well, either way, Hands On Me and House/Home are very good ballad like songs. Just listening to that clip was amazing, and it'll do very well (imo) on the radio. At least we can be happy that there are a lot of good single choices that they're still thinking about!  :)

it is like the same left hand through the whole thing.... it just repeats the same 4 things... c5g5a5f5 lol

She basically has the same chord progression in the left hand part in Heroes and Thieves too right? I was like, "Hrm, this sounds familiar." lol

Steve, thanks so much for posting this song and the sheet music, too! It's so emotional, and I feel sort of happy and depressed at the same time. I feel extremely connected to it, I don't know why... and it makes me remember all these memories with friends, family and stuff... This is probably my second favorite Vanessa Carlton song ever! I really do hope this comes out as a single, it'll do very well, I know that it will.  :)

I just realized that some of the chords in this song remind me of the Jewel song "Absence of Fear". I was wondering why it felt so familiar and pretty to me. The vocal parts are very different, but the music at the beginning is similar :)

^ So the beginning "some people live in a house on a hill, they wish they were someplace else" is not supposed to be slow like it is here? Hmm, I think the slow meandering at the beginning is a nice contrast to the 2nd part of the verse getting richer.

I've been listening to this song a lot in the past three days. I think it's a really pretty song that anyone can relate to. I like that about Vanessa's lyrics. You can always find something that pertains to your life. Or at least I always do.

well to me it kinda made sense to only have it five fathoms deep. since she sings "and sail over oceans five fathoms deep, but can't find what they want the most" and when i hear that i assume that she means that even looking through shallow oceans, they still can't seem to find what they're dying to find. almost like thinking that something obvious is easy to find when sometimes it can be very difficult. i don't know, that's probably wrong but it's a guess right? lol.
