anyone have an opinion as to what they think is Vanessa's easiest song to play on the piano???
-
Twilight.
There's a key change "up in there," but it's not too difficult.
-
yeah,
twilight
faces
afterglow
birdie
ameriteen
red ditty
the wreckage
devil dance
Probably easiest is devil dance.
-
i found "twilight" the easiest. it was the first song i ever learnt on the piano.
-
well i can only play a few. But the easiest for me is white houses- didnt take me long =]
i cant play red ditty but i always thought it sounded hard!
-
definitely twilight. i remember at some concert she said that she could teach the song to the whole audience because "it's only three notes." heroes and thieves is pretty easy too.

i worked on it with my piano teacher, and once he pointed out that it was the same open 5th chords repeated it was a lot easier for me to learn.

so you taught yourself it? 8O impressive :D
-
I taught myself all of v's songs except the ones i can't play which are nolita fairytale and unsung. I'm currently learning all is well.
-
I don't know how to play Twilight :D
hahaha
I need someone to put a youtube video up on how to play it.
:-p
I can play mostly all of A Thousand Miles... (thank you, youtube!)
-

how the hell did you do that?? 8O genius!!! all is well sounds so hard though! please post a how to play video of twilight....haha.....or more :P
-
i never play Devil dance...but would assume that that is the easiest...for me the easiest would be ordinary day or twilight...
-
Twilight!
-
I agree Twilight and then Afterglow.
-
Twilight as everyone else is already agreeing upon. Private Radio is also EXTREMELY easy to play. There's that little solo that she throws in there, but that's really easy to play as well.
-
I thought White Houses was extremely easy.
-
Twilight. Oh yes. If it weren't for Vanessa Carlton, I would never have even learned how to play piano. Twilight was not only the first song I ever learned by V, but the first song I ever learned! I was like omg this is beautiful and sat down at my piano and figured it out. Mmm I also learned Red Ditty and Ordinary Day early on, they were easy too. I learned A Thousand Miles before too long, but it was more challenging than those others.
I think Swindler is one of her more difficult songs to play correctly. Mmm, I'm trying to learn All Is Well now, but there are no clear full-length recordings out there so far, that I know of :(

ya swindler can be difficult until you just get to used to the general pattern of the notes...ya there are no full clear recordings of all is well....
ii love playing all is well...the only part i cant play is the bridge....just cuz i havent taken the time to go through it...lol
-
^ I cheat and don't play identically on left and right hands. On the left hand I just play chords. I had trouble synchronizing my fingers for all of that. Idk, I've never taken piano lessons, so I haven't really gotten used to all piano techniques. It still sounds the same that way and it's easier so I just do that instead :)

hahaha ya i cheat on a few songs of hers when i play them.....like on Papa i have difficulty actually getting all the triplets in the left hand in on the right had, so i just play whatever sounds good. That could be because i never actually go slowly through it to see what the notes are, but i still dont play exactly whats on the sheets.
ya it can be difficult to syncronize your two hand well....doing the technical work (scales, chords, arpeggios, etc) for my piano exams has helped me with that... :D
-
did anyone find 'hands on me' hard to play?
-
did anyone find 'hands on me' hard to play?
no way! but Twilight is easier
-
did anyone find 'hands on me' hard to play?
i didnt...i found it really easy :)
-
anyone really good at HAWBTW? i find the higher part of the bridge is soo hard to play, but the low part is super easy, but most of the song is kinda difficult. i can't do the whole thing.

ya id like to think im pretty good at it :D
-
mmhmm thanks! I am going to learn how to play the piano in a few months at school. Can't wait! =]
-
anyone else mention paradise? pretty easy. prince isn't too hard either, especially the bridge.
-
so pretty much anything from Be Not Nobody minus Wanted, and ATM?
-
wanted is pretty easy too. it's really repetitive. it was the first song i learned on piano. atm isn't too hard either, it's just like 4 chords.
-
I'd say Twilight.

oh well they sound hard lol =]
-
Vanessa's songs, given that she also sings, are not too hard to play at all. I'd say the easiest is Who's to Say; it's basically just the same chord progression over and over again.

yeah, they do!

^ Yeah, it's easy, but not as easy as Twilight!!
-
mmhmm thanks guys! =]
-
ATM really isn't that hard to play either. But honestly, White Houses is just an extremely easy song.
-
Any advice on what song would best suit a beginner who has extremely limited piano training?

Just listen to what mostly everyone's been basically agreeing on, lol, try Twilight. It really shouldn't give you any trouble.

I had previously printed out the sheets but I never attempted it because I didn't really know the song too well at the time. Yesterday, I finally looked through it, and wow - that IS easy. I guess you guys are right. :P
And if you're looking for a Nessa song to play with limited piano training:
-Ordinary Day
-Twilight
-Who's to Say
-Pretty Baby
Just any song that doesn't rely on the piano too much and more on chords.
-
Yeah, Twilight is really easy, you guys are right. Thanks. :)
-
i dont know how to play pretty baby....
i can play whos to say...i wouldnt say it was easy learning.
-
No no no not Twilight
Sure it's easy but it's definitely not THE EASIEST.
I would say one of her demo tape songs for sure
e.g. Last Fall , Meggie Sue
They're just chords while in Twilight you do have to change your hands around a bit

They're not all easy :) Burden's a bit complicated if you're learning for the first time
-
mmhmm gotcha I think I will just start with BNN songs when I start.
-
home is really really easy
-
home is really really easy
Yeah it is easy. So beautiful yet so easy xD.
-
home is really really easy
Yeah it is easy. So beautiful yet so easy xD.
Too True :)
-
I can't really think of any right now, since I tend to not pick out stuff that's too safe; but if I could tell you, it would be the following:
She Floats [I never learned all of this one; it's too boring]
A Thousand Miles [as fast as this song is, I can get through it w/o a single mistake]
Wanted
The Wreckage [I have trouble getting through this one w/o a mistake]
White Houses [possibly]
Superhero [possibly]
-
private radio is real easy up to 40 something if you have the sheet music.
-
Ordinary day!
I think it's the easier.
Wanted isn't so hard too.
-
home is really really easy
Yeah I'd agree with Home, and OD!
xoxo
-
someone has to start figuring out the new H&T songs! XD
-
for real
-
the first song i learned was She Floats
atleast i learned the right hand first
not sure about the bass clef part just yet
but it was really easy
Home is easier though
and it's sooo much fun to play
-
I was always too intimidated to even attempt a thousand miles, since it sounded too difficult, and the sheet music looked heard beacuse of the time signiture. But today, i sat behind the piano and learnt the entire song in half an hour, this shows how simpy this song really is since i dont even learn piano.
-
anyone else mention paradise? pretty easy. prince isn't too hard either, especially the bridge.
wat? r u serious? i have so much trouble timing the bridge...the part where it goes down in octave and doing the medly with my left hand...mayb its because i dont like reading sheets...i can do it pretty well...but id rather have someone show me how to play it especially when it comes to timing
-
home is really really easy
Yeah I'd agree with Home, and OD!
xoxo
i just finished the main part of home and it is so easy! but its really cool 2 play...cant wait till i learn the finale...its sounds so cool!
-

thats what i luv about her songs...ill play them for my friends and they would b like "whoa ur good" wen we all kno they r so easy...they just sound hard...hehehe
-
I think White Houses is really easy
and so is Nolita Fairytale.
I'm learning how to play it and I don't even know how to play the piano.
haha
-
home is really really easy
Yeah it is easy. So beautiful yet so easy xD.
YEAH!
i also think
Ordinary Day & White Houses
A Thousand Miles was really hard i learned it when i was younger, but it all worked out in the end.
Errrtime i play it somewhere people think im this great piano player, i juss know how to play a vanessa song :D
-
I think that they're all easy with the exception of Papa and Half a Week Before the Winter. Not that that's bad, but w/ most contemporary music, the instrumental part is repetitive; if you know one part you know a lot of the song. Yeah :) But Hallf a Week and Papa show some SERIOUS piano skills
-
Ordinary day, White Houses, Home and Ameriteen.
I guess those are really easy.
-
hmmm...I know how to play a few chords of Twilight...it seems fairly easy. A Thousand Miles didn't take that long to learn, though, same with Ordinary Day.
-
i think home is actually pretty easy, with the exception of the one part in the outro, most of the song is just about 5 different easy things.
next, i'd say ordinary day.
-
I would definately say as long as you have moderate piano skills, all her songs are easy.
-
I play a thousand miles, ordinary day, white houses, nolita fairytale and hands on me.
The easiest one to me is ordinary day.
I find Nolita fairytale and White houses bridges difficult. It always goes wrong somewhere even when I don't sing at the same time.
Have one of you tried to sing "Nolita fairytale"? I find it hard.
-
I can sing & play it.
It just takes time. You'll get there in no time.
