Title: Nolita Fairytale On The Radio Thread
Post by: B on July 14, 2007, 09:15:30 pm
This is another one of my fun ideas. ;)

I figure we can use this thread to:

1) Report when/where we hear Nolita Fairytale on the radio.

2) Link to Kiss Kombat's/battle of the songs/etc. that Nolita Fairytale will be on where we as forum members can vote via eRequest or by calling the station to help it win.

3) Formulate plans to eRequest and phone request Nolita Fairytale at all of your favorite radio stations so it can get airplay.

If anyone has other strategies we should incorporate with this, feel free to suggest stuff. :)

I'll try to email some radio stations here in France, although given how cr*ppy the music they play is, I doubt they'd take request for Vanessa's NF... :?

edit: I emailed 4 of the biggest nationwide stations, we'll see, I'm just not getting my hopes high on this...

One of the stations emailed back saying they forwarded my request to the department in charge of airplay.
We'll see if that goes somewhere...

Okay, sorry for the double post, but I thought this warranted a new message. I've been digging up contact info (emails, phone numbers etc.) for the major CHR/Top 40 radio stations in the U.S. From what I've heard, the smaller radio stations tend to put a song onto their playlists if it has done well in the bigger markets, so we might want to concentrate on requesting at the major stations first.

Basically, when we're requesting the song at a certain station I think what we should say or write is that we listen to that station regularly - even if we don't - so they'll be more likely to play it. Related to this, it might be a good idea to request (in the same email/message etc.) a song that they've already got in high rotation. Another important thing is to not mention that you're a Vanessa fan; instead, pretend you're somebody who doesn't know a lot about her but heard "Nolita Fairytale" and liked it.

I've also left some music video-specific links at the bottom, for when they're needed.

No way they'd thinks fans were requesting that

My guess is yes. Keep an eye out if your station does a battle of the songs type of deal because I'd think it may end up on there instead of getting straight airplay.

the other thing if you call in i would block your number or note that you listen online to the stream (if they have a stream).  They do monitor area codes.  I have also heard calling in is more useful than writing...

CUZ I FOUND SOME KINDA FAIRYTALE! Then when they came back from commercial and showed their overview of the city they played her singing .... FAIRYTALE! I USED TO, HOVER, OUTSIDE MY TRUTH

Good news! Not sure if it's been posted, buuut....
http://www.radioandrecords.com/Formats/Charts/HAC_Chart.asp

Vanessa is tied with John Mayer and Avril Lavigne for the most added song this week on Hot AC. It's not HUGE, but it's good that stations are adding her to the rotation.

Call in your radio stations and request! We need to take this song SO damn seriously. This is make or break for V.

apparently "NoLIta Fairytale" was discussed this morning on 96.7 KISS FM here in Austin this morning. It was on the Bobby Bones Show (in case any of you are in Austin). He said he liked the song so he downloaded it onto his iPod and then he played it on the radio. 96.7 might be the #1 radio station in Austin and the Bobby Bones Show is definitely one of the most listened to radio shows! So VERY good exposure for Vanessa! Anyway, I got all this information from my friend because she knows I'm obsessed with Vanessa and she heard it this morning.

Vanessa Carlton's "Nolita Fairytale" is this week's most added song in Hot Adult Contemporary radios along with Avril Lavigne's "When You're Gone" and John Mayer's "Dreaming With A Broken Heart".

The song was added to the playlist of 5 radios according to mediabase.com

It has topped new songs by Gwen Stefani and Maroon5. That's a good start.

HOLY SHIT!

I take the Music Advisory Board Survey for Q102, a local Cincinnati Hot AC station. They basically play 15 second clips of songs and you say whether you love, like it, it's ok, don't like it, or hate it and whether it should be played the same, more often, or less often and Nolita Faitytale was actually on there! This is good news. When "White Houses" came out, they wouldn't touch the song. If it's played on their Advisory Board, that means that there's a good chance it's going to be played...

The website is http://www.wkrq.com .... there's probably a request thing. They really listen to the Advisory Board, so I'm glad that I'm on there!

I heard it on the radio.... :D :D :D :D :D It was like 11.45 a.m. and i was in the car with my dad when the guy on the radio was all like... We have a new music file... and then he goes to introduce her... and says She came out with her debut album....blah blah blah and then says Be Not Nobody at which point I started spazzing out... and then he says its her and this is her new track which he called "Fairytale"... and mentioned Heroes and Theives.... and then he played it ....He freakin well playeed it....

This was a radio station in the United Arab Emirates...(UAE)...Dubai....104.8 channel 4 fm...

It was the happiest moment of my life!!!!!!!

Though he only mentioned ATM to her credit totally neglecting WH... and Harmonium saying she "disappeared".... which was disappointing...

Maybe it's a good thing for people to think that van just sorta "disappeared" after BNN?  If they don't know that she slumped it might be easier for NF to become a hit, because people will expect it to be a hit... I don't know, just a thought.

I am goig to e-mail stations again today.

It really relates to this:
I just found out that Star 98.7 does not have Nolita Fairytale in the play list and in order to have it added they need to have a lot of requests for it. Please request it as often as possible! This will help promote V’s new album!
It is sooo easy to request it you can either request it by emailing:

yvonne@star987.com
between 10-3pm pacific coast time

After 3:00
summer@star987.com

Or you can send a quick text message too! Send text requests to 22987

Of course you can always call it in at 800-Star987!

PLEASE do this so that Nolita gets some more airplay!

Also, you guys can check out her performance on the star lounge on their website. Yvonne interviewed her so make sure you guys send her some kudos when you request the song!! Here is a link:

http://www.star987.com/pages/star_lounge_videos.html?feed=128727&article=2431371

If you are not from California feel free to stream the radio station and request it anyway!!!!

Title: GREAT News!

So I found out that they are getting more requests for Nolita Fairytale!! One of the DJs said that hopefully it will be on the play list soon!  Great job guys!!!
OK, so we have to continue what we have been doing and keep requesting it like crazy. Please continue to email or text request for it to yvonne@star987.com
summer@star987.com
Send text requests to 22987

ALSO,

I know this seems like a lot but just pick three and either email or fill the web-request form for Nolita! These are radio stations form all over the states, I have not heard of most of them but this can't hurt, right? I'm sure that some DJs probably don't even know that V has a new album coming out. OK, here go the links:

I think all of our request have been helping so lets keep going with this!

The "Popular" radio station here is a Top 40 one so it has to have a lot of airplay and video play so I can hear it on the radio. It really sucks cause all I hear is "Umbrella... ella... ella"... *sigh*

I haven't heard it on radio yet :( Quite honestly, I have no idea what station to turn to. I listen to B101.1 or WJBR. I should listen to others. I wonder if there is a listings of  radio stations that it would be on? I think either station RARELY plays Vanessa at all so I guess they won't play the new song. THough, the only time I heard a Vanessa Carlton song off a new CD was White Houses at Block Buster :) It was nice listening to it :) Does anyone know what stations it might be on in the Mid Eastern states?

I've also left some music video-specific links at the bottom, for when they're needed.

guys, the song is already failing back down on radio. Its fallen out of the pop 100 on itunes and was nowhere near top 100 in itunes overall.
The Hot AC airplay is down and in general its kind of leveled off already.

I fear this may be a flop.
Hopefully the music video can save it.

If not the second single will have to come out pronto.

Now that I'm back in India... I dont think I'm ever gonna hear any time soon... tho those people at the local radio station ought to take a hint when some guy calls in every day asking for that song...

If i remember correctly Nolita fairytale was the 6th last song I heard before I left Dubai... I was hoping it would be my last... but I ended up hearng quiet a few more songs before we reached the air port...:(

it needs to pick up quickly. It's certainly not taking off like it wouldve back in 99, but this is a different landscape

No one KNOWS about this song though, The Inc aren't going far enough to push it, im hoping that push has yet to come.

Post by: tylor2000 on August 20, 2007, 07:53:54 pm
Could someone please explain what the current landscape is?  And then maybe we can come up with a plan of our own.  I don't actually pay attention to the music business and I know you all have your favorite artists and see what is going on and how things have changed over the years.  It's even a big wonder how I became caught up with VC's music and all.  Even if you are all debating on the current landscape, it would be be constructive and we could come up with something to help this record out.  In addition to what the label is doing.

EDIT:  P.S. It's very easy to get me to be quiet and bug off.

radio and the industry now has moved on from this kind of pop. It all has to be slickly produced urban influenced stuff or drastically different indie stuff. There is a market for pop still, but we are talking Hilary Duff kind of bubblepop and dancepop

Alternative Pop music, ala Carlton, Amos, et all, is a very tough sell these days. I believe Tori Amos' latest album has only sold 105,000 copies so far. Tori Amos is a big name in the scene. Her previous record sold nearly that amount in a week.

I think that Dido and Sarah McLachlan are the only two women of their genres who have really succeeded in recent years. But they havent even had to brave the 2005 onwards music scene which has seen a download driven market and a continued drop of sales.

Harmoniums sales in 2004 were disappointing, and they still would be today, but not nearly as much as they were then.

 :(

I live in the UAE and am now having an out of body experience.!!!I just came back from vacation and havent listened to the radio much and havent heard it on channel 4 yet.....they only have played a thousand miles here...That's the only radio station people listen to in my area.......this is great!!!!

well when I call they are like "um...we dont have that song?" they like say it in a question.. so I ask when will you have it and there just like I don't know and than they ask do you have any other song? and I just thinking..um no I called to request a certain song.. agh I hate Chicago radio!! half the crap they play is crap! well to me that is...kiss fm used to be good now they just like burn a cd of 20 songs and just play the dran thing all day over and over agian and b96..don;t get me started on that station. Than there are stations I like like Q101 but they don't play music like Vanessa's than there is the mix but they don't have the song yet either or so they say.

Haven't heard it hear yet, can only hope it will come.

However, I do wish that this one doesn't do what White Houses did (at least for my school) and become the only song people recognize from the CD. It was on a mix CD we played in Science class when doing labs sometimes, and every time it came on you'd hear about five people going, "Who sings this again?"

You're asking what a ringback tone is? I think it's the tone that plays when you call someone... so instead of hearing the ringing sound you normally hear, you hear the ringback tone instead.

I think they're goofy myself.  They usually sound like crap (because music doesn't travel well over the telephone because of its limited dynamic range), and it's usually some crap I don't care anything about, depending on who I call.  I choose not to have them.  I don't care to annoy others with my skewed taste in music.  (Just kidding - I think I have excellent taste, but they don't seem to have most of what I'd want anyway, and plus, it's just goofy.)

So I found the profile of this local Radio Jockey of the only radio station (that plays english music) here in Bangalore, India... on Orkut(online internet community thingy like myspace...)Her name is Cindu... and so I like asked her if they could play it and she was all like yeah you'll be hearing it soon.... and then I sent her the link to the vid on youtube... and saying I was really hoping to hear it soon... and then today she sent me a message saying she is gonna play it tomorrow morning at sharp 9 ....YAY!!!! (Tho I'll be at college at that time...I'm sure to hear it through out the day)...

So being the only NESSAholic here I think I've done my job....;)...:P

"Nolita Fairytale" could be seen as her letting folks know she's back, I guess.

She really needs a bigger push though. If whoever's in charge is smart, they'll release "Hands On Me", make a kick-ass video, and promote the hell out of it by booking a shit load of TV appearances aswell as radio stuff.

She really needs a bigger push though. If whoever's in charge is smart, they'll release "Hands On Me", make a kick-ass video, and promote the hell out of it by booking a shit load of TV appearances aswell as radio stuff.

They need to shoot the video for Hands On Me in Tibet. lol That'd be amazing.

hmm. i don't know about "flopping" precisely. i mean. probably never a huge success, but it still might be a mild one.

yeah. i'm kind of on the optimistic side.

fresh 102.7 is actually a pretty widely listened to station in nyc, one of the two(?) big ones for adult contemporary. i'll request "NF" later at a time when there are more listeners. i was really surprised they got to my request so quick, especially because it was an online one, too.

they also mentioned something about her "fresh and intimate" performance, but i didn't catch it, and i can't find any more info on their site. i want those tickets...!

and on my last optimistic note- we mightmightmight hear it on z100, which for radio, is the real goal in nyc. :crosses fingers:

and i checked fresh 102.7 again. and requested, of course.

"nolita fairytale" was played more than once today. during the morning and afternoon too, not at crazy times like last night at 10:05.

there's still a tiny bit of hope.

it hasn't been confirmed. it was mentioned in an interview i think, but then in a billboard article, it said that vanessa implied "home" would be the second single.

i hope it's "hands on me" though.

Hands on me would be better, I played the album for a friend and they said hands on me sounded the best.
