I am really digging Sara Bareilles recently. Her single "Love Song" is amazingly catchy and the rest of the album is actually even better than that song. My favorite right now is "Come Round Soon." I love the way she uses the lower keys, it reminds me of Tori.
:) Anyone else a fan?

Yeah, I bought her album from iTunes & definitely like it, although I haven't heard it enough yet 'cause it's been in my boyfriend's car! I think "Love Song" is my favorite. :)
-
yeh, she's cool
-
I think sara bareilles is amazing. i'm glad some other VC fans think so too! I found out about her only a few weeks before her CD came out. She was opening for a Mika show i went to see in Boston. it was absolutely wonderful.
my favorites would probably have to be "Come Round Soon," "Fairytale," "Vegas," and "Love Song."
-
She sounds good to me :) I shall listen to more of her songs.
-
I havent heard of her.. but she sounds interesting..*runs off to itunes to check her out*
-
She's great 8)
-
I love her cd. I saw her open for Maroon 5 last weekend and she was fantastic.
-
Just DLed her CD from iTunes. It's great! She has nice melodies, a soulful voice and interesting lyrics. I love the song "Vegas".
-
This sounds bad, but from listening to the first 20 seconds of her song on her website, she sounds sort of generic... her voice anyway.
-
after hearing some of her songs on promosquad, and after a friend I know from being a Paula fan said I HAD to get this cd I decided to get it lol and it's really good. I love "many the miles" and "city" those are my favorites as of right now.
if you guys like her, you'll probably like maggie mcclure who i made a thread for :) she reminds me a lot of maggie.
-
Love her although I have yet to hear the bulk of her latest cd.
She has a great voice though.
-
She ripped off Angela Aki, her song Love Song sounds oddly similar to Angela Aki's "Kiseki". Angela Aki is an extremely famous Italian/Japanese-American from Hawaii singer/song writer who's currently focused on a career in Japan.

It's so damn similar. lol Not the same, but man, the similarity is uncanny at times.
Angela became well known for performing the theme song of Final Fantasy 12 for those not familiar with her. That may ring a bell.
-
if you listen to the Angela's song after Sara's, there are huge similarities. but if you listen it to the other way around, i found it very different.
not saying that Angela ripped off of Sara's or anything but thats just how it sounds in my opinion.

How do we know this chick didn't rip of Sara though?
I do see the similarities, but you never know she could have found Sara's song before Sara became famous.
And Love Song always reminded me of this song from high school musical that i can never remember the name of. So maybe one of them got it from that lol who knows.
btw Sara is gonna be on the Saturday Early Show on CBS between the 8am-9am hour tomorrow I believe.

Love Song is on the play list at abercrombie. I fold lots of shirts to it.

Angela's Song "Kiseki" was copyrighted in 2005 and was released on her album "Home" in the begining of 2006.
Sarah's song didn't hit radio until the end of 2007, lol. Not sure of the copyright date, but since Angela wrote and released her song before Sarah did... I don't think Angela could've ripped Sarah off. :o Go figure.

not saying that Angela ripped off of Sara's or anything but thats just how it sounds in my opinion.
It sounds different because Angela doesn't play the same goddamn percussive chord progression over and over again. Angela only uses the same progression in Love Song in Kiseki's verse. So after listening to Sarah's song which is that progression over and over again, you can easily pick up on it when Angela plays it in her song's verse. Sarah doesn't even change up the verse from the chorus. Angela adds nuances and movement.
Sarah. Plays. The. Same. Thing. Throughout. The. Entire. Song.
I like it for what it is though, Love Song is veryyy... Ben Folds. Even if it sounds rehashed.

the video looks like a shampoo commercial.

Too bad I will be in the Caribbean when she comes here.

Angela's Song "Kiseki" was copyrighted in 2005 and was released on her album "Home" in the begining of 2006.

But Sara could have had her song up on myspace way before it hit radio, a lot of myspace artists have their song up before they become big. Onerepublic for example..I heard Apologize like 2 years or something before it became big with Timbaland.

lol Laura, stop it. Angela did not steal Sarah's song. And no, the first time Love Song surfaced was this past June on iTunes (It was a free download which I downloaded), and then it hit radio a few months later.

K it's spelled SARA, no H :) & just because it was on itunes this past June doesn't mean it wasn't on her myspace also before June. & I'm not saying the girl your talking about stole it for sure, just saying we don't know who stole it IF either even did. Sometimes songs just happen to sound the same. It could be a producers fault for all we know.

It doesn't seem so to me. The piano definitely sounds very similar, but the vocals don't at all.

Ugh. I know. They keep deleting my posts! My response was so witty. These people do not appreciate good wit when it slaps them in the face it seems. It's not like we don't know what we're getting into it whenever we confront one another. Seriously.
-
I can understand them deleting it if someone got upset, but we both know how to stick up for ourselves. Maybe their afraid that we will go off-topic too much.
oh well. whats done is done. *shrugs*
-
Yeah I like her alot. At first listen I passed on her, but after a few listens she really grew on me. Now probably my favorite since the Colbie and Vanessa's albums. I heard she has been around for a long time and she finally made it with "love song". Funny how a song catches on like a year later and keeps going lol.

Here comes my late reply...
But Ive heard "Love Song" a lot on the radio and I really like it :D
its good to hear some new musicians who have a lot of talent and I agree, that song is really catchy. ^^
-
Love Song got my attention the first time I heard it, it's so upbeat. I haven't gotten too much into her other stuff, but form what I've heard I like.
And that other song is really similar.
-
Argh, how come I only found out about her now?!
She's pretty awesome, I may get her cd sooner than I thought I would after hearing it online.
Nice to see there are still true artists out there.
edit: sweet! I just saw her cd will be re-released as a 2 disc edition with an acoustic bonus cd in March! :)
-
they dont have her CD for sale here.....
I 2 of her songs off the internet...but i cant seem to find any others....
I got Gravity(but its live....it still sounds GREAT though!)
and Love Song (awesomeeee!)
-
Love Song makes me want to tear my ears off. It was mediocre when it first came out & I really can't understand why it's on the radio every other song. Sorry.
-
this friday, dallas, Let, oh yeah it's gonna ruuule :-)
-
I have the album. It's not bad. I REALLY like "Love Song". It's easily my favorite single of '08, even though it came out in '07. It's about as pop as early VC, in my opinion, and it rocks. There's nothing else quite like that on the album, but that's OK. In a strange way, it reminds me of my own amateurish banging on the keys---people say that I play piano like a drummer---but maybe I'm a sucker for that quarter-note feel. The chorus almost wants to be a shuffle.
Like the song or hate it, you gotta respect the craft. It's well written, and I've seen a few live clips that IMO had a little more oomph than the studio track.
I'm all for hearing more from Sara.

I can see what you mean about it being a respectable song given that it's at least better than most of the crap out there on the radio... but I think she falls short of making the song unique. To me it sounds average & generic. Vanessa's song was definitely in the same category as this song, since it became kind of the year's anthem for commercials, etc, but I think ATM is a much more clever & different sounding song than this one. Sara's voice is... just like everyone else's, sorry to say. And although the piano is catchy, I don't find it memorable on it's own.
-
I haven't heard the entire album but I am seeing her this week. I do love, Love Song and what it stands for. I will let you know what I think of her live.
-
I'm really diggin "Bottle It Up" right now. Didn't like it at all on first listen, but it grows on me each time.
-
I baught her album too~it's great~!
Does anyone know where to find her sheet music?
Thanx
-
I don't really know what to think about her. I like "Love Song", but it's played more than anything in the goddamn world. This irritates me. But I still like it. As for her other music (that I've heard), I don't care for it a particular amount. She's (seems to be) talented, though.
-
Love her!! All the songs are nice...City is my fav ....
the love song video is really cool too...

No, The Fray's "how to save a life" & Daughtry's "Home" is played more than anything in the world. i've heard both of those songs on 3 stations at once a few times..seriously, those songs need to die lol.
-
I love, love, love her album.
I don't actually remember where I first heard about her...Love Song isn't played as much here as it seems to be in the States, most of my friends have no idea who she is (in fact, whenever I mention Sara Bareilles to one of my friends, she always seems to think I'm referring to Sarah Blasko...:S) BUT yeah, Sara Bareilles is pretty awesome.
I'm really liking "Many the Miles" and "City" at the moment. :D
-
in fact, whenever I mention Sara Bareilles to one of my friends, she always seems to think I'm referring to Sarah Blasko
I didn't think Sarah Blasko had much of a profile outside of Australia! Are
we talking about another Sara Bareilles fan from 'Down Under' or what?!
Peace

So, she was really good. I was impressed. Strong voice. Not sure about the piano skills. She's got a great personality too. I haven't finished listening to the CD so that opinion is out. Live was great though. Stupid Hotel Cafe show she only did a few songs. My friends got videos:

yeah she didn't get to play as long as I would have liked but her voice was amazing!
-
A lack of 'formal training' in this instance looks to have worked to Sara's
advantage; she doesn't seem to be persuing a particular musical style;
kind of like she's free to morph genres with this current material; I  it.
The only other artist I could compare her to at this point is Melissa Talon -
who I mentioned in my first reply to this thread. 'Gravity' is impressive :D
Peace
Aaron
-
new fan here. i like her songs! my favorites are Love Song, One Sweet Love, Between the Lines, and City.

I am a little late but the two shows I went to were amazing. I went to the LA show with a friend who was not a fan so I wasn't there early for a good spot but it was kinda cool to see the whole picture. I did get Many The Miles. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS9KFi9lvdI) I really could have done without Marc, as an opener and during this song. I also, last minute decided to get Love Song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzo0a9aFs0s)
Sunday, Sara was part of a radio show in Golden Gate Park called Now & Zen Fest. I got I Feel It All. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR9e9F06MH4) (Feist Cover)
The radio station has Bottle It Up, (http://www.radioalice.com/pages/1181383.php) up. From that link you can click on an interview and there are also some photos. (http://www.radioalice.com/PHOTOS--Sara-Bareilles-at-Now---Zen/3135101)
Did you guys pre-order your (http://sarabareilleslive.skyroo.com/se/view/music/index.html?utm_medium=epic-myspace) Between The Lines DVD? It comes out on the 28th. I almost forgot to. Sara was on The Tonight Show 2 days ago.
I just watched the performance ("Gravity", the new single) and it was beautiful.
Apparently, she's nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, woohoo!
-
I know this thread is pretty much an old one, but I'm just into Sara Bareilles' music right now that I have to write on this one. :D
Sara Bareilles is one of the few artists who make it on the main stream. She's got a unique style and a wide range.
Now, I'm listening to her available new material. They sound pretty commercial, though I think she has not gave up her artistry in doing so. She just can write hit songs.
-
I'm obsessed with uncharted, I can't wait for her new album : )
-
I like her song Fairytale, it has really good lyrics :)
-
I'm obsessed with uncharted, I can't wait for her new album : )
I think it's pretty great too. Nice song for her to overcome her writer's block. :D
-
How's her new album? :P It's on my Christmas list so I can't really buy it and I won't download songs(1. My computer been attacked by spywares from download programs. 2. I like the real thing :P) I COULD listen to them on YT but I do love her song King of Anything.
-
The new album is really great! I love it.
Sara's back with a vengeance and she's kicking butt! ;)
This is a must-buy I think.
-
Ya it's really awesome 7 tracks are very good, and the others are in the decent -> good range. No stinkers here haha. I would get it, but it wouldn't kill you to wait until christmas either ;-)

You guys above are responsible for getting me into her & her music.
I checked her stuff out on YouTube a few days ago ("King of Anything", "Many the Miles" and "Uncharted") and was really impressed with her. Of course, I knew she sang "Love Song" but I didn't really like the song and never got interested in her.
But yeah, she's good.
I like the new album a lot more than her debut. I think she's come on pretty well as an artist & songwriter. "King of Anything" is great, but I've over-played it now.
I thought she'd end up being another Vanessa - one big hit, platinum selling album & that's it but it seems she's doing pretty well. I hope "Uncharted" is a hit for her. It's a good pop song.
Oh, and I wasn't expecting her to have a great voice! She can really sing!

So reassuring that you still have artists like Vanessa and Sara out there who can put on a live performance like that, just a piano and vocals, beautiful.

Such a flawless song and band. Of the times I have seen them live, Yellow has never been a disappointment. NOTHING have ever been a disappoint with them.

I just learned that she is already 31.
Wow. I never knew.

Yes. Way younger. Like V.

Yeah! Haha

I just downloaded her Live from Soho EP and it sounded very cool. Her live performance is as good as the recorded version.
-
I like her demo cd, Careful Confessions. It's really good especially for a demo
-
"Careful Confessions" is not a demo cd, it's her first indie release before she was signed to Sony.
-
Really? I looked it up a while ago and like every site said it was her demo...

Yep, it's her album.
-
Really loving her facebook updates ;D ;D
"Hey facelibrary. Just reaching out to send you a little love on a rainy day in Los Angeles. If water were whisky, and I was the grass, I'd be sooo drunk."
-
Sara is definitely my favorite artist, with V of course. :) I lovelovelove her music. :)
-
Have you guys watched Sara's new video for Gonne Get Over You? SO funny.
-
I seriously dont get her new video!
Love the song but seriously I dont like the video
-
Awful video. She looks like a reject from Grease or something.
Nice song though (great album, too).
-
Hmm well, there definitely isn't much relevance to the song in the vid.. but I love the fact that Jonah Hill directed it! And, I'll say that the narration was appropriate for the cheery mood of "Gonna Get Over You". It's Sara.. dancing! She's got some moves down! Haha. So, it's hard not to like (for me). Heh :)
