Hi,
Does anybody know why Vanessa sings "A Thousand Miles" with the lyrics 'making my way down down' in some performances, please? Thanks! ;)

I always thought it was just how she some times pronounced downtown? Hmm, maybe I am wrong. I prefer the downdown lol.

It sounds like it in concert. She just kinda says it lazily and it sounds like down down

But there are quite a lot of performances with her singing it like that. I noticed it too :nod:.

I think maybe it's just her pronunciation. Well, at least in the extreme home makeover video, it seems like it's how she pronounced 'downtown' I haven't really heard it anywhere else.
'down down' is really weird. It just doesn't make sense to me :/

Wonkies used to joke about how the way she pronounced that part it sounded like "Miga Ma Way" instead of "Makin' my way" and you can even hear that in the Extreme Makeover recording :)
I think it's just a combination of poor enunciation and/or audio from the event. I do not think, by any means, she is saying "Down Down" intentionally :)

You can CLEARLY hear her say "down down" though, and she's done it in other performances too (e.g. the download chart performance).
Someone many months ago gave a reason which made sense, but I can't remember what it was.

Yes, because I'm interested in the reason WHY she's singing it "down down" instead of "down town". I don't see anything wrong with wanting to know the reason, do you?! :? :? :? :roll: :roll: :roll:

you seem to be the one that knows. why don't you go figure it out since you can't remember? You can go audit every live performance of ATM posted on youtube and determine if there is a pattern to when she says downdown vs downtown. that is what i would do for something *I* cared so much about.
my point was, there is no reason *i know of* that she would intentionally say down down so if she is.. *I* don't know why and i also thought it was amusing the enunciation of Makin' My Way so i wanted to point that out, as well.
In all the many times i have seen her perform live i have never picked up on her saying "down down".
making things italicized, bold and larger give off a tone in text communication that i don't think you intend but it can irritate people, like myself.
aside from that, she is bound to be touring soon so that seems like a great question to ask her and report back the findings.

I'm not talking about the Sirius performance though ... and the post wasn't supposed to cause offense to anyone, it was a simple enquiry.
ANYWAY
Can someone delete it, please? I know one of you admins/mods have seen my request.

personally I think the question is fine. if she is doing it intentionally it would be nice to know. I just think we have exhausted the knowledge of the people that have read this thread, and no one has the answer... so I would:
a) review many performances of ATM to see if there is a pattern of when she sais down down vs down town, like when she has changed lyrics when she is in SF only...
b) ask Vanessa at the next show and report back the findings.
just because people are of the opinion that it is incorrect and that saying down down isn't intentional doesn't mean it is fact, it is merely an opinion.
I am so glad you hear MAKING (all caps, thanks for that...). how many recordings have you listened to confirming you hear making every time?

It completely would not surprise me if she busted out a nearly complete alternate, screwy version of the lyrics someday with a few words twisted around and some lyrics completely eroded to jibberish. I mean, how many times do you suppose she's performed that song? She's already resorted to giving it an alternate title at some shows. :wink:

It wasn't nearly as funny the second time I saw her. I wish she was more natural in concert... so many of the things she says sound very premeditated. Forgive me for not remembering any examples :?

I know what you mean, the song introductions are always told the same way. like Atm about her mom hearing it and the dog barking and the mtv censoring, OD about the 30 minutes writting and her having Add,WTS about being for unnaproved couples, also the irv story about atm,about stevie nicks...but you have to remember, most people in the crowd(except for the nessaholics) don't see her live that often, so for them it's the first time hearing the jokes. And can you you imagine making up different ways to tell stuff with the pressure to entertain different crowds every show?! so of course by the last show of the tour her jokes will sound like an automatic script for those who've already seen her, but for the rest, it will still be the first time.
