You don't have to have been on the site posting long to be an old schooler really, i've been a major fan since her single got me back into music and her album brought me outta near depression and turned me into a happier and more insane but still happier me :)
I actually thought I was a bit of a freak until I found this site, people still look at me and go 'who?' even though I talk about her almost everyday to the peeps at work
One person gets the brunt of it and is slowly driving her insane as she doesnt know any of her stuff
Being British sucks from a VC point of view as there are very few fans and barely any nessaholics, so my knowledge of her parents names and whole life and career makes people stare wide jawed, but I dont care as I owe her a lot, an awful lot, I owe her what I am
oh well off topic but still, newbies can know just as much as old timers

Don't drink underage
-
Grak, almost everyone drinks underage. nobody will ever get them to stop unfortunately. i think its fine as long as they don't do something STUPID like drink & drive. had a friend killed that way last year.
-
I'm still around, ish! (not sure how many remember me from o board though...I joined in 2002 when I was 13!). I pop in from time to time but not as often as I used to. *waves to old school crew and newbies*. I'm going to try and be around a bit more with the new album and all. *hug* Aww I've missed that smiley!
xoxo
-
Yeah. :) It's pretty cool that most of the old people are still around, at least from time to time.
Ok, some people already guessed from stuff I have said, but I figure this is a cool thread to address it in...
but Pete (LogikalX) and I are getting married on October 6th!!! So now you know :)
I think it's cute since we met on here and all. If not for VC, I wouldn't be getting married. lol. How funny is that. I wonder how scared she'd be if I told her that =P
-
Georgie, you were supposed to meet us at the concert in 2003, but that didn't happen, sadly enough
I hope you're doing ok!
Noelle, I'm sure that V would LOVE the fact that her music brought two people together!!!
I'm happy for you and Pete! <3
-
Thanks Si :) Yeah, I guess she would be happy her music benefited us :)

:D old school....I remember the days....
Congrats on the marriage news!
Danny
-
congratulations Noelle
-
Thanks :)
Oct 9th isn't a Saturday, so it's hard to get people together on weekdays:)
BUT I do have some VC songs on the playlist for the DJ... and we're bringing my keyboard (it's a casual thing in my grandma's backyard on the water), and my family knows I play her songs, so I might end up playing a few- like ATM probably lol.
-
I recently moved to Texas and began a PhD program. I am now overwhelmed. lol
-
Hey Trish, I had no idea you were in TX now.
How is it like over there? Lots of "y'all", right?
-
whoa, Danny AND Tricia, back from the dead haha jk. Good to see you two around. And wow Tricia, how do you like Texas? I remember you used to be on my livejournal, but since I havent used that in ages just to let ya know I live on my own now..have been since the middle of june. & im moving again next saturday into a cheaper yet better place so im pretty excited.
Good to see this thread is still going :)
-
Ghis - I like Texas...the drivers suck, but that's because they're so slow. I'm sure they think I'm one of those crazy California drivers. lol And I've already started saying y'all...:P
Laura - Congrats on living on your own! It's such a blast!

Congrats Noelle! And Pete! :D
Hello to everyone, nice to see you all. I'm in my senior year of college, taking a grad class as well. One more year after this one and I'll be teaching (with my Masters!) This semester is incredibly stressful, crunch time. Just starting a mentoring/tutoring job with some city kids, it's wonderful!
-
Thanks everyone :)
Dan, how's life? I haven't talked to you in so long! Is your band doing well?
-
I'm not that old. But I've been on the o-board since like 2003-2004ish. Anyone remember harmonium1991?
-
Thanks everyone :)
Dan, how's life? I haven't talked to you in so long! Is your band doing well?
Married!! Woah!!! AWESOME! :-)
Congratulatoins to You and to Pete!
I hope you share a long life filled with love joy and health :-)
I go and drink to your health .. :-)
Yeah Dan!! .. *waves* :-)
-
Hehe thanks Zen =) I will probably be drinking to my health at the wedding, too. lol.
-
I'm still alive! Wow... this brings back old memories! I miss ya'll!
Not too much has changed with me I guess. I'm just 21 and have 8 months till I graduate college and start working in music management. :)
-
Thanks everyone :)
Dan, how's life? I haven't talked to you in so long! Is your band doing well?
Can't complain. I'm in a few cover bands now, and do studio work whenever someone asks me; just show me the money! Still work full-time, so it's a challenge, and my longtime girlfriend Carolyn comes to most of the shows. So, at least one person out there likes it.
My Beatles tribute band opened for former Beatle Pete Best back in July at The Cutting Room in NYC. It was great. Pete used my kit after our set. Steve Van Zandt was there, and he told us he really liked us( :D ). Other people came by, like John Lennon's ex May Pang; it was just strange to see all these people I'd only ever seen on TV before. Playing in front of people who actually knew the band was frightening, but rewarding.
Being married is great(I say this as a divorced guy). You're going to like it. Wedding day will seem to last 7 minutes. It's not all a smooth ride, just remember to NEVER stop communicating. Again, my very best to you guys!!!
Dan/NS
-
Wow, that sounds really exciting - the tribute band show where you got to meet all those people. I'm glad that you got good feedback, too!
Yeah, we aren't expecting marriage to be some cake walk- but we compromise and communicate well, so we're looking forward to it! Thanks for the advice and it's good to hear you are still with Carolyn (I remember talking to you about meeting her =P)
-

Noelle, I'm sure that V would LOVE the fact that her music brought two people together!!!
I'm happy for you and Pete! <3
Siii yeah I know that was so unlucky! I really wanted to see the concert with you and the others. If V ever comes back then I'll be there with you guys for sure! I'm really good at the moment, how are things with you?
Many congratulations Noelle!
xoxo

It's different for everyone, and things WILL change as you go; be ready and open. I say "good luck" because I think that's what it is....luck. Where are you going for the honeymoon?
As for music, sometimes meeting celebrities is fun, but no big deal(it happens at my job occasionally). It's the joy of succeeding musically that is the reward. The challenge is to duplicate a part without sounding like you're doing a parody; it's more like an impersonation. I did my time in tons of original bands before I realized that the general public would rather hear a badly-played familiar song than a brilliantly-done, good original one! Still, we all strive to do well, and hopefully, it comes off.
Dan/NS
-
Haha, well I'm glad that you're having a good time with the band. And I know what you mean about people wanting to hear stuff they know rather than something new & original, but at least they will appreciate if you do a good job on a cover =D
And Pete and I aren't doing a honeymoon yet. We're trying to save money. We might go to Disney in the spring or something.
-
Hi people *waves*
I'm old school, I guess, so thought I'd pop by :)
To think I hadn't started uni when I joined this and now I'm all done and onto Grad School! 5 long years have gone by... wow
-
Must suck to be so old, Nerea <___<
-
As for music, sometimes meeting celebrities is fun, but no big deal(it happens at my job occasionally).
K I have to ask.. have you ever met Paula (or Simon) from american idol, Criss Angel, or any of the backstreet boys? haha. I still have yet to meet Paula and Simon.

And Dan, I'd like to meet Paul Simon, too! He seems like a pretty cool guy.
-
ha me & logikal x have gotten into an argument too, probably more than one. i used to get into arguments with grakthis too & always say i'd leave the board. now i'm learning to defend myself..it helps being a Paula fan lol cuz i'm defending myself all the time when it comes to her
I remember when a lot of people used to make threads about leaving the board cuz nessaholics were too mean haha now they just seem to disappear or get banned
-
I remember you. Dammit, I remember quite a lot of the old guys - Amanda/Manda/Jazz Trumpet or whatever
I am insulted!!! I am not Jazz Trumpet/Amanda! I'm Manda/amandaz2rad4u. *humph*

haha its okay. I was kidding, I do get along well with Amanda. (I feel like I'm talking to myself in the third person here.) the "2rad4u" was moronic but it was really all I could think of when creating a screen name, but, oh well.

Hahaha. Me too sometimes. Good to see you around though.

I feel old even knowing there was a aim chatroom.

I feel old even knowing there was a aim chatroom.
You were old before there even was such a thing as aim.... I kid, I kid.
I was old before they had a thing called the internet
-
The AIM chatroom was the shiznit! We would talk pretty much all night and entertain each other while the O-Board was down in the middle of the night for maintenance.
-
This reminds me of a story of about 30 years back when floppy disks were actually floppy and I used to walk seven miles to school everyday in 8 feet of snow.....
-
The AIM chatroom was the shiznit! We would talk pretty much all night and entertain each other while the O-Board was down in the middle of the night for maintenance.
Haha, very true. I used to sit at my computer for way too many hours at a time. Now I don't seem to have that kind of time... but man those days were fun.
Ohh Tylor, you're not THAT old!
-
Ohh Tylor, you're not THAT old!
haha, I'm making fun of steveau....but I am old enough to remember floppy disks being floppy in physical characteristic. I think that is why they called them floppy. :? So yes, I'm that old. :( I never walked for seven miles in eight feet of snow though....not that I remember...I did ride my bike in 3 feet of snow for 10 miles though...does that count?

They definitely were! I spent way too much time on my computer too, and I was doing that with dial up 8O.
Now instead of the VC chat I spend my "should be doing something else" time on facebook.
-
^& I spend it on myspace or the livedaily bsb board or something haha
i remember that chat too. sigh, the good ol days when we had that kind of time

lmao Tylor. You're too funny.

haha, I do the same. I sadly have 3 things that I do online and that's about it... Facebook, check my email and check this message board. Facebook more than anything sadly. I'm lame :D
It's just so insane to me that I was 16 when I started talking to all you guys, and here I am 21... so much has changed, but yet here I am, still talking to you all. It's one of the only things that's still around in my life now that was when I was 16. Haha. Just crazy. All because of V.

They called them floppy because the actual media was soft material, not because the disk casing was floppy.
Before floppy disks you only had hard disks... which were solid metal disks, which is what we still use for hard disk drives or just hard drives.
Of course, this gets confusing now that we have hard drives that are RAM and don't even use spinning metal disks anymore.

I just call them diskettes, the 3½" kind anyway. I'm sure there was a time when 5¼" was considered small, but I just can't make myself call them anything ending in "-ette".

Yes, you are right. I think though they made the outer case 'floppy' on purpose. I remember being 8 years old and having several 8" floppy disks. I could tell you several explanations of why they were made the way they were, but I think it would be the stuff urban legends are made of.

lol i remember the post wh0ring threads, those were fun!

Yes, Joey. I am aware of that. But I am explaining that the reason they were called floppy isn't because the case was floppy. It was because the media was floppy.
Which is why the 3 1/4 were still called floppy.

I thought it was because floppy is a cute word and cute words stick :)

I remember breaking open 5.25 floppies and they were made with a superior form of magnetic tape but instead of being wound up in a spool like in a cassette tape, where you had to fast forward and rewind to get to where you wanted, it was in the disk format so you could access data on any part of the tape you wanted very easily with just a short spin. I actually had used cassette tapes on my Commodore Vic 20 for that and it was a pain in the arse. It slowed things down alot. You had to sit there and wait for your computer to spin the cassette tape for so many minutes to find the info needed.

Alright, no more being sentimental haha.

As I remember, we called them 5¼ floppies, not 5.25.
And, yes, I had a Tandy (Radio Shack) TRS-80/Color Computer 2 that saved and loaded programs on a cassette tape. That was a hassle. And not very dependable, either, so it was always a good idea to save multiple copies, onne after another after another. I still have the computer, and I have a newer model of the same tape recorder now, and I'm sure I still have the data cable somewhere, but I'm not sure where.

it saved somewhere i just have to find it. But i use to have all the important threads links saved me and vulture would keep track, i gotta find them and see if i can bump somethign really really old

I think he was talking to me because I know better. He's right, we used to call them 5 1/4. I was just being lazy. It doesn't matter because it is the same thing, just a convention in a name. It's like calling 3 1/2 floppies 3.5 floppies.

Now THAT is old school. By the time I was using modems they were up to 9600.
But there wasn't much of an internet back then. There was just FTP and Usenet and those were pretty sparse. And of course, local BB's, AOL and Sierra Online.

I remember her, but I can't remember her screen name. I think she was one of the dozen or so emily's who posted on here. But I think she mostly posted on the o-forum and not on NH.com. She posted on NH.com maybe a dozen times total.
She was good people though, especially since she's closer to your age and normally I scorn you kids >:3

Hahahahahha! I've stayed at hotels off that exit half a dozen times since then. It's right by Murphesboro, just south of Nashville.
It's a great place to stop if you leave Louisville late and you're headed south. Cheap hotels, lots of places to eat and a Best Buy just up the road.

How did you end up moving that far north? I think we need an update, yo!

Yeah Andrew I am in the middle Tennessee area.
I actually live in Spring Hill which is about 15 minutes from Franklin and
Cool Springs. I actually work in Antioch which is about 15 to 20 minutes from Murfreesboro. I came up here because of work. I am in Real Estate now selling for a company here called Celebration Homes (New home sales)
So I guess I am living near Nashville. I live about 40 min from the airport.

Hey Zee!
No I am not doing the Forensic Science thing anymore. I decided years ago that would not be a good field for me to go in. They are paid pretty terrible and I decided to go into real estate. I do not have the blue lexus anymore I sold that one and got a new IS350 when I sold it in early 2006. Yeah this was a big year for me moving and new job. How are things going for you Zee? It has been years I think since we have talked last.
