Am I the only one who things that the "na na na" in Spring Street is kinda annoying, but the lyrics is amazing!

I don't like too much the vocals in The one.

I'm loving "My best"  :!:

I love the "na na na..." in 'Spring Street', lol.

"More Than This" is my favourite from the album. Very different sound for Vanessa.

The nanana's don't annoy me much... but the story is touching!
Home's outro is HOTT. Piano skillz much?!
The new songs Come Undone is amazing!
My Best sounds a little bit like a children's rhyme! It's so cute but lyrics are goood.
My fave (production wise) is Heroes and Thieves, definitely captures the OD sound, like someone on this board predicted...

Double Thumbs up, two more for big toes! LOL

Definitely deserves a Grammy!
Title: Different
Post by: liquidblue244 on September 26, 2007, 01:41:39 pm
it's sounds so different than what I was expecting.....do I feel a little bit of alt country? or is it just the stevie vibe?

it's way different....it's so positive feeling.

I thought that "The One" sounded really folksy.
And I agree, we're gettin' a whiff of the Stevie with this album.

What I like about FLM is that it's a song about heartbreak, but it's also about being naive and wanting to retain the idea that it's okay to fall in love again ("I'd pick the fool any day), and it kind of has that musical quality to it.

I love the studio version of Hands on Me, it's sooo good! :D

I actually like The One, I think it's just coz Stevie's voice is too low for it. Its something we'll get used to I reckon.
I'm thinking along the lines of Amy Lee singing STAAAAAAAAAAAAAR about 7 times during the song "Your Star" it was so annoying when you first heard it, but I think its the best Evanescence song ever now.
I love this album, and I agree with V about it being the best patch of songs she's ever written... and it's great coz I can relate to it so much, or parts anyways.

I can't wait to buy it :D

EDIT: I also love the fact you can hear SOOO much more piano in this album, it's the best instrument ever :)

I'm super-impressed with the studio versions of H&T, Fools Like Me and Home, even though I'm a little annoyed with how Fools sounds a bit more up-beat, and I feel that it takes some of the emotion away from the song. It still sounds good.

Come Undone is my favourite new song! Spring Street is pretty good, but a few people have mentioned how annoying the na na na's are, and I have to agree. I love the story behind the song though so...

I'll admit that My Best sort of disappointed me. The most impressive part of the song is the beginning, and then it falls into mediocrity. Well, not mediocrity, it's an alright song, I just...bleh. I don't know.

Oh, and as much as I love Stevie, her vocals messed up 'The One', I'm sorry to say.

I think Nolita was the perfect first single. It may not be typical, but it set up the whole album.

Personally,I now think Harmonium and Heroes and Thieves are deserving of equal love from me....But i love them for different reasons: Heroes and thieves to me is alot about evaluation and self realization, while harmonium was about the lyrics and  life in general( not specifying like H& T did)...

On Tuesdays right after school, we have choir rehearsal, but I asked our choir director if my friend (another huge VC fan as most of my friends are) could run across the street to Barnes and Noble and then run back and get back before 3:15.

He's like "What's being released? Interpol? Va..."
Me: "Vanessa Carlton's new CD yeah!"

He said it was fine! ahahahaha, he's the coolest guy ever.

Ok, y'all, I am gonna be completely honest....

Vanessa is very talented and it shines through in this album, and since this is her work of art and if she's happy with it, then mission accomplished.

However, I personally found the album to be somewhat disappointing.  Not because of Vanessa's abilities or anything like that, but because of my personal preferences when it comes to music.  The Vanessa stuff that I like the most are the dark, piano-heavy songs such as "Half a Week Before the Winter", "Papa", and "Wanted".  So, to find that this album didn't contain any songs like these to balance all the "happier" sounding songs, I am a bit disappointed.

Not saying it's bad...it's good, but it was just missing the Vanessa sound that I love the most.

Although the comparisons to her other albums are inevitable, I really wish they would stop.
Sure, Be Not Nobody and Harmonium were excellent albums, but let's give Vanessa a clean slate for this CD.  I think these from H&T are amazing even in comparison to the other two albums, but they really deserve to be recognized as a batch of songs, not just some more Vanessa Carlton songs.

*Agrees* Yep and Albredi agreed too! Its not just us ;)

But to be honest, listen to it like 20 times and you'll start to like them more. The new stuff isn't bad- just different. (I didn't like it at first, i was mad :@ like someone took nessa away!!) haha
But the others are right, she had to do something different, or else it wouldn't sell...

I don't think she really cares about selling well anymore really...i think she is now more about the music....
I personally think the differences in sound might be because of how she's feeling right now..not because of her wanting to sell well....to me, this album is not more commercial, it's more nessa...

I'm still a fan of V, but not of this album at this point. Which is pretty sad, 'cuz I've waited a little over 2 years for this album, and it's fallen short of my expectations... at least sound-wise and vocally. I was expecting something like HARMONIUM and BNN put together, but more progressive and mature. NF is the best track so far. The only thing that really wowed me was the classically-inspired bit on 'Home', which is the longest song on the album. I hope against all hope that V doesn't sing the way she did on HAT on her future records, 'cuz her voice was just a mess [as well as the protooling, production, and engineering]. It could mean her career going down the tubes. The album cover is haunting [it even scares me b/c V looks like she's gonna jump out and eat me at anytime], but I like it. The photos for the album are pretty lame, though [the ones for BNN and HARMONIUM were pretty good].

Irv executive produced, so the album has to be a little mainstream.

I'm sorry lol but thats how I would describe this album. It has its own sound and vibe of course, but I feel she's found a happy medium between her younger more simple sound on BNN and the heavy production and orchestras on harmonium.

Yeah I guess I was expecting at least a FEW of some dark songs, but I'm glad with the way V has gone - it's how she's been feeling and I think it really reflects her life now, and if she's happy, we're happy

Another thing: has anyone noticed she didn't really have a song which was extremely difficult (vocally)? I was expecting some majorly high notes for a long time (Annie? San Fran?). I'm not complaining, I was just a little bit surprised...I don't know :/

All in all though, I really LOVE how Heroes & Thieves turned out!!! It's gonna be huuugge :D Congrats Vanessa!!!

Hi everyone, I'm from Germany and would like to tell you all that there are some fans in Europe, especially in Germany! Well, not a lot, you know, VC is not "mainstream" in the US anymore, and she's even much less well-known here, but still... I mean the album got released and can be bought here, that's already a good thing, right?

I purchased the album this morning and I've been listening to it all day ! To me it's the best record Vanessa has released so far.

"More than this" is like the best song she ever wrote, everything's perfect and couldn't be better!

Least favorite songs as for now:

- The One (which would currently get 6/10 from me)
- This Time (7/10)

Favorite Songs:

- More Than This (11/10)
- Heroes and Thieves (10/10)
- Home (10/10)

Every other song gets 9/10 except "Spring Street" (8/10) !

I'm simply glad to finally have the album in my CD player. It was out of pure coincidence that I noticed VC had released something new, as I hadn't dealt with her any longer ever since she lost her record deal. Well, besides listening to her songs, which I naturally still did.

I agree, I love the vocals on both "My Best" and "More Than This". Vanessa's voice at its peak! But her singing in "H&T" is great, too.

My Best has really grown on me, I didn't like it a lot when I heard it for the first time, but especially the end is just great.

I liked My Best all the way through, I'd have to say, but it was REALLY annoying to have it stuck in my head. :D That and Come Undone I have to say are really up there in my favorites.
I've always loved Heroes and Thieves, and I do have to admit that I didn't really like This Time until I could play it on the piano. I'm sort of like that sometimes.
Last but not least, Home is a WONDERFUL piece of work.

Am I the only one who things that the "na na na" in Spring Street is kinda annoying, but the lyrics is amazing!

I don't like too much the vocals in The one.

I'm loving "My best"  :!:
Really i love the one, i love stevie and vanessa together, its kind of haunting. i also like more than this, home, nolita fairytale makes me smile.
I like all the songs!
