Title: Black and White Religion?
Post by: malchikgej on October 05, 2008, 04:19:45 pm
I don't mean race, Christianity has two many grey areas, where different christians except different things is there something more concrete out there, maybe i just haven't looked into it enough?  I think im looking for a religion with a written set of rules and expectations? I'm asking because i can't seem to figure myself out and i feel that after 16 years i should know myself a little better. And on top of it all i'm gay which makes me question religion as a whole...and now i don't even know what i'm asking...

You're very young.  Even if you come up with some conclusion right now, you will probably change your mind in the coming years.

I was baptized and raised a Catholic. Do I believe what the bible says? No. I was told by my family when I questioned my faith and some of the things I had been told/read (hell, sins) that I would be disowned if I decided to pursue a different religion. I still say I'm Catholic, but I believe what I believe. I don't believe in Hell, I believe we will all be forgiven and loved when it is time to go home to heaven. We all have a purpose and God made everyone different, but loves us all the same, even if we may not at times. Maybe you should look into other religions, or go off of what YOU believe.

I was also baptized catholic, but currently go to a methodist church with my mom, sister, and brother. I prefer this a lot more than Catholosism because its a lot more welcoming, interesting, and enjoyble. At my particular church we welcome all, gay, straight, bi, trans gender. We also believe god loves us all and we will be forgiven. I love it there, and we have a great youth group. :)

That sounds fantastic, there should be more churches like that around. That sounds like the kind of church I would feel comfortable going to

I find it very hard to really believe in God as an adult. I had so much faith when I was younger it's hard to believe that basically nothing but maturity flushed it out of me, but I find it naive to really be anything but agnostic. The religions of the world are so convoluted and have seriously caused so many problems in the world it's hard to have faith in them for me.

I'd like to believe in a God, it would be very comforting, but I am too skeptical... for now at least. And if there is a God I hope he isn't mad at me for believing what I do. At least I am hoping!
