who do you think it was?
and explain why you think it was that person.
and if i missed someone... who else do you think there was?
EDIT: where the heck did my poll go? i swear it was there a second ago
ok... i'll make it again!! and i'll add The Smiths now Rosie, but i havent heard of them.
ok, i have it back up now... but i guess the old one came back too, so some of the people are there twice! just vote for the one on the top!
and now it's gone... ahhh.. do you guys see it?!
-
I think The Smiths were the most influential band- a lot of the acoustic guitar riffs you hear today in both pop and rock are very much based upon them. I'm not sure if anyone really knows who they are but they were voted most influential band by Q (i think).
If you don't know who they are i suggest you d/l: There is a light that never goes out, Panic, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Ask (SO good live!) and The Boy with the thorn in his side...i'm gonna go post in the other musicians thread. lol

I think it's Elvis...
he broadened the boundries of music and wasnt afraid to just do what he wanted to do. and in that way he changed music so much and a lot of the music we have today is thanks to him.
he's dead, but it feels like he's still here!
there are millions of impersonators running around
he's still one of the highest paid artists today! (thanx to graceland and his albums are still selling)
and he had a hit just this year after being gone for decades
lol, how many people can do that?!1

-

elvis probably, but no, i cant see your poll
-
thanx Emily! lol... i thought it was just me! but i made the thing twice, so i dont know where it went! all my other polls are fine... but not this one
-
without a doubt.....
THE BEATLES!
-
Picasso. No -wait... Dali.
-
i dont mean that kinda artist, lol, think musician!
-
Nirvana
-
I don't like their music, in fact half of it I can't stand but I still have to agree with Kev and say The Beatles
-
I'd definately have to say David Bowie.
-
As much as I love Elvis...I'm going to hve to go with the Beatles...there's no comparison
-
i dont mean that kinda artist, lol, think musician!
It was a doke.. you know... ha ha! Or something.
Thinking musically, I have to concur with The Beatles' nominators.
Others that spring to mind (baring in mind that "influential" doesn't necessarily mean "good"):
Britney!!
Early boy bands (NKOTB? Take That... I dunno - not my field of expertise)
Run DMC
A lot of people I know would say Martin Carthy. Or maybe a group like Fairport Convention. Ooo! Wait... Blowzabella! (don't worry if you don't have a clue...)
Gotta have Elvis, if only for all the impersonators :)
I agree with Ms Posy r.e. The Smiths (although it does mean admitting to sharing taste with Terry Christian)
Radiohead
Whoever did the first dance tracks
-
lol, i know, but i just wanted a real answer out of you!!!
-
Elvis
The Doors
Marilyn Manson
Nirvana
My 2 cents
-
As far as artists who had the most direct influence, I agree with everyone who said the Beatles.
But Blues and Rock as we know it today would not have near the structure it does if it weren't for Robert Johnson, King of the Delta Blues Singers. I'm not gonna type his life story up here, but I'm sure you can easily find lots of info on him on the Web.
-
duh how can I forget the Beatles, my mind is just so damn fatful with knowledge eeek
Mike
-
Jimi Hendrix
Bob Dylan
Janis Joplin
Eric Claptain
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
-
i can't choose...either Madonna or Cher. just my opinion.
-
Even in Pulp Fiction QT said: your either a Beatles man or an Elvis man.
A Beatles man can like Elvis, and an Elvis man can like the Beatles; but your either one or the other.
-
thats an interesting thought Kev!
i guess i'm an Elvis girl then.... but i do LOVE the beatles alot too
but actually i think my fave oldie band is The Temptations!
