Okay, what about the song at the very end of the video?
The one that says "Fortune teller.."
I really like it, even though we barely heard any of it.

I absolutely love this new directions Vanessa has gone, it's like folky music and I am in ore. I just can't describe how unbelievably amazing it all sounds. I'm sure everyone feels the same, but I just can't pull myself together. It's just, ofugdjfjo dvnfogfhjudfihdkieruyhdnjkieuhyrdnjsfhbdnjshfbcnjfhnvcjkdurhncjfn

EXCIIIIIIITTTTTEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think so too. I played it on the piano (well, tried) and it's all in the same key.

It's definitely the same song. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE it. In the very end, the way she sings reminds me of some earlier Liz Phair songs, hope no one will take that wrong :P

Yeah, i thought the same, hear the bells fits :D

The line Boots on concrete sounds more fitting to me in the song The Marching Line.

And the instrumental being mixed by the end of the video just sounds like this:

Now she owns the rights to her songs, do you think she'll ever release the unreleased stuff from this album? "Moneymaker" as a B-side perhaps? Or on iTunes. She could make extra money that way.

Thanks for this!! I thought something like that. I was waiting to hear the 'S' at the end of the last word but didn't hear it. I was a little confused. The song really sounds beautiful!

I've been watching that teaser again and again and I'm pretty sure the song at the beginning and at the end is the same but that at the beginning it's a "live" version and at the end it's the studio one.

I agree. It's the very same song, but with different versions. The first one sounds stripped, while the latter is the mixed one.

I also hear that, but I don't know if we can trust my ears. hehe.  I can see it being the The Marching Line because the melody is very much like a walking or marching sound (kind of how in The Wreckage you can hear the "rhythm of an engine")

What's eerie about this video is the club chair she talks about. The one wherre Victor blends in... Um, its the same one in which shes sits at the beginning of the video on the website.

And does anyone feel so much at home at Vanessa's by now... I mean don't you think you could like walk in and use her bathroom without asking her where it is... Kinda go to harem style guest bathroom... or look for some clothes in her wardrobe.

I know. Creeper alert.

But I'm sure I'm not the only one who harbors these sentiments... Let's face it, I KNOW I'm not the only one who watched the Cribs video only a like a million times ;-)

EDIT: Staying on topic. I think the two are the same song. Not different. I mean the boots on concrete and the fortune teller song. But it sounds crazy dreamy and amazing!

"fortune" = money = "Moneymaker" perhaps?

i know it wasn't on the suspected tracklisting, but that doesn't stop her from using the song.

Does anybody else think her voice sounds much different?  When I heard the first song in the beginning, I thought, "Why're they playing some other person's song in Vanessa's video?"  I guess it's actually her?  Is she just using more head voice than chest voice?

But in the IDWBB clip, it sounded pretty much like the Vanessa I know (which, btw, was absolutely gorgeous).  Hmmmm.

Yeah, she's definitely experimenting with her voice on this album. Which I personally think is awesome.

The version of ATM from Sunset Sessions sounds just like the performance in 2000/2001 when she recorded in a supermarket? I'll try and find the file (I have millions) and put it up, but she's sounding just like did 11 years ago. Who else can do that?! Personally it's a more stipped down, effortless, sweet, yet emotion driven voice. Beautiful. But when hasn't her voice been beautiful?
Title: Re: ...That New Song! From ROTR Trailer
Post by: [sobriquet] on February 23, 2011, 02:16:10 am
I agree. What she did in H&T era was to make her voice sound older and huskier in a way. But in ROTR, it sounds like she's making it sound dreamy and young.
Title: Re: ...That New Song! From ROTR Trailer

I think she sounded awful in the early days. There were times when she sounded like a cat being stepped on. It was all nasal.

She started improving at the end of 'Harmonium' and her vocals were MUCH better during 'H&T'. Her vocals sound even better now! I wonder if she's been taking lessons or if this is just a natural progression.

I think it's natural progression.

And yes, I do agree with how she sounds pretty awful in the early days. There were times that she doesn't sound so good. But if we hear from her now, you could definitely say that the change is tangible.

The change is excellent. Her voice seems so much richer and controlled. She should take some lessons because I don't think she realises the potential she has with it.

Didn't she say not too long ago that she cut dairy out of her diet and that has improved the nasal quality her voice used to have?

I don't remember her saying that, but dairy is suppossed to be bad for singers voices..so maybe she did. It would explain why her voice sounds better  :D

I already finished the sheet music, but I have doubts on posting them. I feel like we should wait for the actual release.

This song kind of reminds me of the ones her sister (Gwen?) used to upload on her Myspace...

I've just had a brainwave! Okay, so if you have read my last topic (the 'story' wink wink) then you know what the last cough song cough is on the album! AND if you watch the video on VanessaCarlton.com, then you'll see that when they show the edit on the tape, the reel on the left is almost empty, thus being at the end. Last song = end of reel!

Therefore I conclude that the song on the video and what we're all desperate to figure lyrics out to, is In The End :)

OVER AND OUT

Hmm... Don't they use one reel for each song? Aren't they separated from each other.

If that's the case, then the end of the reel doesn't really correspond that the song being played is the last song in the record. It just means that it is the end of a song, which can either be at the beginning or the end of the record.

Well if you look at the reel on the right at 2:29, it says VC Master Tracks. I'd have thought (and really hoped :P) that the song name would be on there, but obviously it isn't. I'd have thought if there were individual reels for each song then they would have had names on :s I'm in the studio sometime soon and they have a tape recorder there, I'll ask the sound technician the protocol on recording to tape :)

omg, i'm so in love with this song. i've been watching the video on the website with my head-phones to try and catch another word. i can't wait for this one. i think it's The Marching Line or In The End. and the one that plays while My Morning Jacket guy is playing the drums, i think it's Hear The Bells.

Well, I think that was London. The coda of London.

Yes, you can even hear her sing "join the marching line" in the video, although it's very faint.

Yes, me too. To me, it sounds like the lighter version of The Wreckage. Especially with the way the piano in the verse sounds like as if a beat in a march.

clouds, like cathedrals
When night hits the sea
And I walk to the highline
Ships gonna take me at midnight
The storm sounding out like an overture
It's time to join the marching lineā€¦
