It's my birthday today and this is by far the best present I've received (I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing).
I was shocked by how stripped it sounds. I kinda like it, but you know how we'd always get used to hearing her perform songs one way & then when the studio version of the song is released it sounds totally different? Well I guess I was preparing myself for that with this, but it's nothing like I imagined it would be.
The artwork is really nice.

hello everybody! I am new here in your nessaholic-community but I have always been a part of it in a passiv way because i love vanessa and this side so much and I keep always updating for news since a thousand miles.
Now I finally managed to login because I had a lot of problems with the account......
I am 21 and from Munich in Germany. As I already said, I love Vanessas songs. I studie music and theatre at university in Munich and so Vanessas songs are a good way to relaxe when you have to listen the whole day to great and often heavy classical music.
By the way I also want to make sure :-) that everybody gets to know that kate bush also got a new album out in may 13.
When Vanessa uploaded the video on her homepage on which she is talking about "rabbits on the run" I did open a group at facebook called "rabbits on the run" perhaps you all want to be a part of it? i would be very pleased to meet you all there with your friends and a lot of posts so that vanessa gets more attention.

I hear Ari doing "OOooo"s and saying "it's a carousel" for sure.
and it could be Ari again doing the other backing vocals.. or a mixture of people, or Vanessa herself... etc.

HOLY SHIT!
That was my first thought, sorry for the swearing. Then I thought, it sounds different than what I expected (but similar in sound to the song on the website video). Then I thought, actually, it's exactly what I wanted!!! Stripped, just Vanessa, no extra, hardly any percussion; her voice and the piano are the dominant instruments heard! The artwork IS black and white (well, off white?) like I had expected, but I thought black background, white script. That picture is gorgeous. I agree with who ever said they want to frame it, it would look perfect in my office! I also agree with Kulp that the background vocals don't seem to be Stevie. My first thought was that it was just Vanessa....and gorgeous. Just wonderful. I am so happy for her.

agreed. That sound I don't know how to describe and that is similar to the song on the website video I thought was just for that song, but it seems like it might be of them. Maybe that is the effect that recording on analogue has?

it's well known that amazon.com releases clips of songs before they release... so...
lots of refreshing and bam! :P

Omg this took me completely by surprise! I'd got it into my head that we wouldn't hear it at all until the 3rd - no previews, no nothing... so this is such a pleasant surprise.
The song itself... I love it! I had prepared myself for the fact that it may have been overproduced in the studio (like, in my opinion, has happened before). I loved the live version of Carousel so much, and I was skeptical I'd be as in-love with the studio version.
But it's turned out to be... perfect. It's beautiful. It's just perfect.
Can't wait for the full version!
And the artwork... was kinda hoping they'd use a photo from current photoshoot. They've all be stunning so far. But I'm sure this'll grow on me.
Song and artwork combined, I love how organic and "true" this single is to the real Vanessa.
Does anyone think that the single will be physically released? Or is this digital release all we're going to get? I personally love collecting all the physical cds!

Love how the piano literally RINGS out. And the tambourine? Nice segue for the percussion there!
And as she said.... It really DOES have a dream like feel to it doesn't it? The harmonizing is wow... And I'd agree with whoever said it but yeah... It isn't Stevie or anyone else... She's doing it with herself (that's what she said :P).
Anywho.
This is really RAW. It defines alternative. I'm so proud of her!!! :D

Although you have to admit it's a lot more V than we got on H&T and Harmonium.. (for the most part)
The sound surprised me at first and I it did take me a second listen to be totally into it. I must admit..

Vanessa has done it again!!! She's so incredible and I admire and love the fact that this is the kinda song she, and by she i mean the label, send to radio. They totally get her and she does whatever is close to her heart. Guys, this is 2011's best single :) can not wait til the album drops, its gonna be so magical. Oh and my birthday is may 6th too! Kinda crazy, isn't it?

I don't know whether it's my computer, but there is a tin-can kind of sound when I listen to the preview, as if she recorded it in a makeshift studio that doesn't quite have everything sealed up from outside noise. It's sounds kind of like a perfected live version. I guess because she recorded on analogue? ???

I just think it's Vanessa using both her high & low register. I definitely hear Ari in the preview too.
I like that she's experimenting with her vocals on this album. She's typically just been a straight singer, so this is nice to hear. She's adilibing more & playing around with her voice.

Oh ok. I really like the harmonies though. You could barely hear any harmonies on Heroes & Thieves the album, but this one, they are all over the place.
Her lower register sounds really awesome. She's improved a ton.

I hear the 'strange' sound as well, which I was alluding to in some of my other posts, I just didn't know how to describe it.. it might be the analogue. I think it will take some getting used to, but I still think it sounds beautiful. I think it also helps give the dreamy quality, which someone else had mentioned -- which was what Vanessa said she was going for. As a whole, and considering everything, I think it's perfect.

Vanessa is really the only artist I go nuts about. I love the fact that she doesn't give a shit about sales & hits and just makes the music she wants to make. My friend who knows a guy who works for Irv said that Irv tried getting her to do more commercial stuff (promotion, I mean) and she was like "um, nah. I'm good" lol. To put it simply, she wants to make music & tour. I respect her so much because she never compromises her artistry. It's like "do it my way or hit the high way".
I really hope Razor & Tie realise how lucky they are to have her.

Okay, thanks. Then it's definitely not just my computer, then. I'll have to wait until it's released and I buy it on iTunes to see how the song sounds all the way through. I hope the whole album doesn't have that weird sound, though. It's kind of distracting, to be honest. :-\

Very different from the live versions, and different than I expected, but I love it.
I've been replaying that clip over and over... it's amazing.

Awww, the preview sounds great! I still need to watch allll the live videos from the last couple of shows but I like what I'm hearing. Harmonies are beautiful, everything seems to be stripped down. I seriously have tears in my eyes right now, it's been so long since we didn't get new studio music from V.

Yeah I saw the lady from R&T tweet it and did some googling, apparently some lady interviews musicians, actors etc. on the steps of her house in brooklyn and it goes out on youtube and tv? Hope we get to see it soon as well lol. It feels like everythings coming and it's all so exciting!!

I don't think it's weird. Actually, I prefer she sing that way. I love Nessa and I'm used to her voice, but from an outsider's perspective, I can see how her voice probably comes across as a bit whiny. Her voice has evolved as much as her music. Remember in the BNN era, when her voice sounded like she was rolling the words off her tongue?

She used to sound like a witch that just had water thrown on her when she first performed. There were some performances that were so awful I had to switch off.
She's learned to control her breathing a lot better & she doesn't sing through her nose anymore. Her voice has matured a lot too which is definitely a good thing. The only real complaint I have about her vocals now is when she performs live she tends to shout her songs instead of sing them. But I have a feeling it's just because some of the crowds she played to were talking loudly. Lately she's been singing much softer & using her high register more which sounds lovely. "London" at Sunset Sessions is gorgeous.

Yeah I agree. I noticed on her demos they seem to be whiny but I still love her music and with practice you always improve :)
