I'm also thinking that Starbucks might sell Rabbits on the Run. They usually sell independent type music there (except for Katy Perry and Taylor swift. WHAT was that). But if her songs are already on the playlist I'd imagine we are going to sell the record. If not that then they will probably be on another CD with different artists.
All three songs are on a Starbucks playlist called "Contemporary Grind"
My friend told me IDWTBAB played yesterday but I didn't know Fairweather Friend was on the playlist. It was playing at work today and I was humming along not even noticing that it was playing on the speaker until about halfway through the song, haha. Then I ran to the back and started it from the beginning.

I was reading up on the CD players used at Starbucks, and they run on harddrives. Meaning as soon as you insert a CD it will rip it to it's harddrive. I also found out if you have an audio jack you can plug that into the back of the CD player and possibly plug it into a recording device, if you are bothered to go to that much effort (and if your boss doesn't mind!) :P

This also makes me so jealous, because fans sit around waiting on every word for new music and news, and then random people who didn't even care what they were listening to got to hear two new songs before us if they happened to be in Starbucks. :( Good exposure, but still, it's such a weird way to debut the songs.

I was just in Starbucks the night before last! I didn't hear any music playing, let alone Nessa's. Oh, if only I could've heard FWF or IDWBAB, it would've made up for that disgusting strawberry Frappa-what-the-hell-ever drink I ordered. ::)

They play "Ordinary Day" in my store, but they have someone else singing it (apparently the company saves £500k a year just by having someone else sing it).

I don't think we personally have the CD's that go on the playlist. Pretty sure that's corporates doing.
Also, I don't think I have a recording device, but I might. If someone could explain step by step what to do(technologically stupid) then I can do my absolute best to record it (if it's allowed here, I don't know if I'm allowed to post the actual recordings on this website)!

And I used to NEVER go to starbucks because I think it's way too expensive and the coffee is too strong for me. I don't drink coffee either so I have a the green tea latte (usually iced, because the warm one tastes like grass).

No, I was a little pissed as well. I think it is absolutely fantastic that Starbucks is playing her music. It really is a great way for exposure. HOWEVER the fact that we have been waiting for so long, literally three years for FWF and now it's being played at starbucks? I would feel better if Razor and Tie would just tweet and tell people that her music is playing at Starbucks.
The playlists at work literally have hundreds of songs on them. It was lucky that I even managed to hear them.

I think there's nothing illegal (well maybe not NOTHING but it for sure isn't illegal) since you can go to your local Starbucks and hear them, it's like ripping a song that you've heard on radio. it's legal. And we're all gonna buy the record anyway, it'll be bad quality but a nice sneak peak for us V fan :) let me tell you you're very lucky!

They're under no obligation to.
Honestly, even if recorded versions did appear, I'd be inclined to wait an extra month so I could hear them in full quality for the first time. Recording in a noisy (or even quiet) store playing from a little speaker system is going to involve some compromise.

I did stake out starbucks today for a few hours when I needed to fill my time and stay awake. I even went over to the VOA first to buy a book to read! No luck, they were playing the jazz and I felt weird asking them to switch it and I couldn't remember which stations you said they were on anyway. Maybe next time.

Maybe it seems unfair for us that non-V fans get to listen to some of her songs earlier than we do. I also understand that we've been waiting for a long time now. But can't we wait for just a little more? We're so close now that we're shaking.
Don't give up just yet. And I'm sure that if Lavender Skies just had a recording device and was allowed to record the songs for us, the person will do it, you know? I don't think that she will keep the songs from us.

And calm down guys, thanks heaps to Lavender Skies for sharing the news - it's great to know more!! The recording can wait. The thing I love about us Nessaholics is that we share as much information as we can get on V to our best abilities :)
And at least you guys have Starbucks - almost all the ones in Australia have shut, and I'm fairly sure the ones that are open wouldn't be playing/selling V's stuff xD

These stations stream to all Starbucks shops, right?
I'm not sure, but I think they'll have a radio url that's common to all of them, that you should be able to take and use on any computer. That's what I would look for first, because it's free and pretty easy to get normally.
Other than that, I would suggest getting a voice recorder (they're not normally expensive), some earplugs, and blasting the music after closing. That's a desperate move though. xD

my friend just told me that she heard carousel being played at starbucks. this is actually really good that v is getting played in a nice intimate place like starbucks. although i wish we could've heard these singles before playing them at starbucks i'm not mad. the album is coming out soon and i'm excited enough for that =)

There is no audio jack on the music player either or microphone outlet. I don't have a video camera or anything that I can use to record the audio from the speakers in the store.

And then she sings the Dear California part. I'm almost positive she just says dear California once. This song is about a guy and it's probably about Stephen since he lived in San Francisco. That's what it kind of sounds like from the lyrics.
Also I'm fairly certain RoTR will sell at Starbucks. Starbucks does this with a lot of artists and then sells the album when it comes out. So that will be awesome.

I'm so jealous of the people who got to hear Vanessa's new tracks at Starbucks! 'Dear California' sounds like a really good song. I loved the few lyrics that were posted; can't wait to hear the whole thing! I don't think anyone should go out of their way to try and record the songs at Starbucks. There's only a month left until the album comes out, and time is flying by, so there's no harm in waiting just a little bit longer. I think the anticipation of the actual release date makes it all the more worthwhile. :)

But you see, this is what annoys me...we CAN'T hear them unless we sit at starbucks every day all day or work there! I am neither for or against recording, I'm just annoyed that the songs are out there after all this time waiting and counting down the days, and more waiting. I think it would be a good idea if they just released those songs on iTunes now. That way the fans can get to hear them and anyone who happens to walk in Starbucks, likes one of the songs & wants to listen to it at home can buy it. Best of both worlds. :)
I'm not particiularly fussed either way though, to be honest. But I see Sara's point.
Right now we've got just over four weeks left to wait for this next masterpiece.

if the trade-off for being played in a really popular place and eventually having the album sold there is a few tracks that are temporarily exclusive to starbucks, then so be it.

If her people have okayed the songs to be played in a popular public place, I don't see the resistance to people recording and uploading the songs tbh. There's no reason why the fans shouldn't get to hear these songs right now if they choose to.
But you see, this is what annoys me...we CAN'T hear them unless we sit at starbucks every day all day or work there! I am neither for or against recording, I'm just annoyed that the songs are out there after all this time waiting and counting down the days, and more waiting. The people wouldn't even let us post a track list but now the actual songs are out there being played and not accessible to those who have waited years?? Just annoyed, that's all. It doesn't make sense to alienate the fans like this.

Right now, Starbucks's website is in full Lady Gaga promotional mode. Like Lady Gaga needs more promotion?? She's a great self-promoter on her own. Don't get me wrong, I am not "hating on" Lady Gaga. I respect her as an entertainer, but I don't see why she needs to be promoted by Starbucks. Her management team must have gotten a sweet deal to use her to promote starbucks or something.
I always saw Starbucks as promoting lesser known artists, or new stuff by known artists that had been out of the limelight.. Hopefully the times Starbucks does play VC's music, they help people identify her as the artist. It is a coffee shop after all not a dance club!

Anyway, I just got my hairs cut, had to go to the bank, came to Starbucks, placed my order and as I was waiting I hear this guitar, I think, " I wonder if this could be Vanessa" so I strain to hear, as they are making the drinks and it's loud and the music seems kind of low. So I make my way closer to the speaker and I hear this angelic voice. My heart skips a beat, I smile (people may have started thinking I'm crazy at this point) I take the closest table and sure enough, it's her. It's Dear California. But it's the middle of the song and I can barely hear :( What I could hear was "california, love me while I'm leaving" over and over, lots of guitar and some drums, still that dreamy quality though. I couldn't hear very well, there are a lot of people here. So, I'm still going to set up shop and wait to hear if it comes on again or if one of the others comes on!! Very excited

I couldn't believe it was the first song on, could have been on when I walked in even. If I hadn't forgotten to go the bank and had to turn around, I might have gotten a better table and a full listen! But something is better than nothing. On the other hand, we shouldn't have to troll Starbucks just to listen to her.

My whole impression of the promotion thus far---including the tour---is a kind of test-market, wait and see approach, which I do understand; wallets are tighter than ever in the music biz.
Wouldn't it have been nice, though, if Vanessa and the powers that be offered us fans, some of us here almost TEN FRICKIN' YEARS, through good times and bad, a small listening party for the album? We are not the people who would illegally distribute her album and it would have been great publicity, so why not another fan gathering ala Pleased To Meet You?
It could have been done anywhere in NYC for not a lot of money, maybe play the album on a great system, then maybe a Q&A and meet and greet for fans afterward? I know some of these posts get back to her and perhaps she even lurks here. Maybe this was already thought of and got the kibbosh?

Vanessa songs are on contemporary playlist 1 (FWF) 2 (dear California) 3 (carousel) and 4 (idwtbab) and each playlist has like 40 songs. if it is slow sure you could ask really nicely and they might go find the song(s) for you as long as you know exactly what to ask for. btw -- I just listened to them a few times and V is awesome!!!!!

yea, if it is busy there is no use... it is so loud in there usually and the volume is pretty low and people clanking around and blenders grinding lol etc :)

If anyone wants to try, you can use Audio Hijack Pro on Mac to rip the sound from your computer. We'd have a good quality of the song lol. Just a suggestion if anyone wants to do that. You can only listen to the online radio using Starbuck's WIFI though. So, you'd have to actually go to the store. Audio Hijack will rip the song.

anw melody wise, these 3 songs are so different than Carousel and the supposed vibe of the album. Compared to Carousel they are energetic and robust. I was kinda expecting a dreamy soothing and fantasy sound but I guess VC still retains some commercial elements (IDWTBAB and DC got me hooked the seconds the songs start!)

The only thing I like in the new version of FF is the accompaniment, which makes it more catchy for me. I like the lyrics and the "feeling" in the first one though. They're more...upbeat than morose.

FF I'm not sure about. Am I the only one who really prefers her original live version from Hotel Cafe? I must have played that version 100s of times and I think it was perfect. For Sure not. I LOVED the Hotel Cafe premiere of FF. I feel like...the lyrics flowed better. But maybe it's because I've listened to that version so many times it's ridiculous.

Ok, the only Starbucks by me is in a Barnes and Noble. Would they still play it there?
Granted, I have heard all the songs, I just would like to experience listening to it in public, since that kind of thing hardly ever happens.
