Title: Rabbits on the Run Sheet Music Book Coming this (edit) September
Post by: VaderDawsn on May 25, 2011, 06:50:46 pm
I just checked bn.com and it looks like there is going to be a music book published for Rabbits on the Run. This link says it will be released in July.

This is really cool!  ;D Thanks for sharing.

Looks like V is in a better management.

By the way, is Leonard Hal corporation a publisher for sheet music books?

Cause in the back of my mind, I'm thinking about an actual book. Maybe an account of how V get to where she is right now.

Yes, they publish piano, songbooks, etc of popular music. http://www.halleonard.com/

Yesss. This saves me some effort. I'm looking forward to see how they transcribe IDWBAB. I've been trying to figure what I should I do...

My only concern is that it might not be what she really plays...just the vocal line and bass

That's the common concern with sheet music books - they are not always accurate. They usually base the notes on whatever is dominant on the song, sometimes instruments other than the piano, which is what we're really after.

What have they done with the rabbits & font too? Looks a mess.

Please let that be a typo on the artwork and not on the actual book.. Imagine if they spelt all the books wrong. I'm sure V would not be pleased

Holy crap, OMG!!!!  I might actually be more excited about the book than the CD, haha.  Hal Leonard sheet music books are usually, unfortunately, the bass in left hand + vocal line in the right hand. :(  However, there've been a few Hal Leonard books that aren't transcribed like this (ie. some of Michael Buble's books), so there is some hope that it might be the original versions.   :D

A mess? I think it looks awesome, i bet thats how V designed it. and tbh, that should have been the cover of the cd.

Yay! So excited! I wanted a book for H and T, but that never happened, so now we get this! Hope the transcriptions are of what she actually plays. :)

On amazon.ca, the cover seems to have been corrected from "Rabbit" to "Rabbits".  Hooray!

Though I should note that it's still listed as "Rabbit On the Run".

Somehow I feel the book would look better with only calligraphic design (with 'Vanessa Carlton' and 'Rabbits on the Run' in it how it is now) and no text at the top. However, the text might be requirement to make it clear enough or something.  :-\

I am surprised that the release date for the book is still July 1st. I would have thought that it would not be released until after the album.

I have a feeling that this book will have just melody + bass line. Hal Leonard does not have good transcriptions, and I'm pretty sure they did Harmonium's book (which we all know was a fail). I could be mistaken though...

I've pre-ordered the ROTR sheet music book through amazon (pretty much just for the pretty cover, cos maag and sobriquet's sheet music is by far the best :D).
Amazon sent me an email over the weekend saying that they were "still trying to obtain" the book. So obviously it was not released on July 1st as had been stated - which makes sense because the album is yet to be officially released.
Just wondering when you guys think this book will be available?

Wow, Vanessa transcribed the whole thing herself?  Really?  If so, that's awesome.  In that case, I have a tiny bit of hope that it won't be super messed up like Hal Leonard's transcriptions usually are.

I also went to my music store on July 1st and asked if they had the book, but they said it wasn't in their system.  All the other online book stores have the book as unavailable, so I'm guessing the book will be released sometime after July 26th.

Just checked amazon.ca and it says the release date for the book is now Sept. 1st.  Sounds possible.  I checked a few other sites but they all still say July 1st.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I posted a message on Skye Steele's facebook page telling him he should transcribe the violin parts for us violinst (I'm sure I'm not the only one..) who want to play along.  He never answered me on facebook but then at the Utica show 10/24/11 he recognized me and said he was working on it and that he would send them to me when he's done!!  I'm sure he is really busy -- touring with V, touring a bit with his own band, and he was also recently married, so I'm sure he has got a lot of balls in the air.  I still think it's really exciting and when I get it I will be sure to share with those who would like it,.

(I dont' know if this is in the right topic..)

He is very nice! I plan on starting a new thread for his band when I get my videos uploaded (it's taking me 30min to an hour depending on how long the video is, and this is my busy work week so I haven't had time to do them all at one time!)

I just got my piano book today and I'm soo disappointed! :( Is the right hand really just playing the singing voice?? Seems as if, from what I've seen so far.

Judging from what's previewed for the Carousel sheet music, I think it has the melody in with the piano bit.

I bought the songbook when it was released (which is a long time ago :P) and started playing Fair wethered Friends which I think sounds great! I moved on to The Marching Line that I used to play with C. Benitez's sheets and I found out the songbook version is way more complicated! I was wondering if they (Vanessa and the guy who helped her transcribe) tried to make the songs more difficult (since TML is pretty basic at least I thought it was?). Can somebody please tell me which versions i should play to get the notes like V plays them on the record :) I'm not that good at reading musics so it usually takes me a few hours of practice before I get the song right, don't wanna waste it if I can play an easiest version that will actually be closer to what V does. Thanks! :D

Hello!

I haven't seen the songbook version of TML, since I live from far and buying one and importing it would be quite expensive (tragic, I know). But from what I usually see in official songbooks, most of the transcription incorporate the melody in the right hand, which is unfaithful to how the artist do it.

On the other hand, I do the sheet music based on how I hear V plays it either in record or live. It would be biased for me to say to pick my sheets, although basing from what you wrote, I think I got the simpler transcription which would help you to understand the basic concepts in playing the song. ;)

But playing the songbook version is also fun! If you managed to learn the basic patterns from my sheet, maybe you could add a little twist to what you have learned by trying to read the one in the songbook too :D

Hey he is you, I mean you are him :P Sorry, I forgot your nessaholics username. Gonna take that opportunity to tell you how incredible you are. I play all V songs with your sheets and they're all incredible! I play the whole Harmonium songs everyday. No kidding! I just bought that last songbook (since I knew V did it i thought it would be accurate). If you want to I can email you the TML official sheets. I have a bad ear and can't tell what sounds more like the CD.

My only concern is that it might not be what she really plays...just the vocal line and bass

That's the common concern with sheet music books - they are not always accurate. They usually base the notes on whatever is dominant on the song, sometimes instruments other than the piano, which is what we're really after.

That's true, like the guitar, violins, violas, cellos, double bass or the bass guitar, y'know, your typical stringed instruments. I reckon they do this just in case someone wants the full arrangement of the song, but that's not what many of us are looking for. The (sheet music) publishing companies -- especially Hal-Leonard -- not only do this w/ VC, but w/ other artists as well. Many times the piano has to be the only instrument playing (like in 'Wanted') in order to get the actual keyboard/piano arrangement, but even w/ that there's discrepancies and those of us who go by ear have the challenge of correcting those mistakes.
