Maybe mp3 release June 21st and physical release July 26th??! Do they do that??

I know some record companies do!  It's a good way to get the fans to buy 2 copies of the album & use funds from the digital sales to produce the physical....this is going to make her concerts coming up interesting LOL

That's true! I wanted to have a physical CD for her to sign at the shows.

WHAT?? this is horrible, I really hope it's not true. Though I think it might be, don't Amazon get told the dates by labels etc? Maybe there has been a delay on printing the physicals, or they just want us to buy it twice. I don't mind too much as long as I still get the music next month. V is one of a very select few artists that deserve my money on multiple copies.

Edit: Also guys, just checked her official site and it has been updated to say "Available 6/21". I think it said this before but note it doesn't say "In stores 6/21". They've also removed the iTunes pre-order info..? Not good.

Post by: nutnlp on May 27, 2011, 07:26:04 am
Yeah I agree! I wouldn't mind forking out the money for a digital copy and then a month later for a physical copy at all...I just don't want to go to the show in early July and Vanessa play all the new material before I've even heard it....and then have nothing "new" on the album to look forward too lol
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11
Post by: Martin. on May 27, 2011, 07:26:53 am
Well I'm not buying it twice. That's ridiculous. I love Vanessa just as much as the next fan, but I'm not in a position to be buying multiple copies and even if I was I wouldn't do it because it's nonsensical.

I'll illegally download the album and wait for my physical copy to ship. Fuck buying the same album twice.
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11
Post by: TRINIST on May 27, 2011, 07:35:08 am
Yeah, I'm not saying I want to buy it twice. I just can't wait an extra month to hear it, which I think R&T know most 'holics will be the same, and I'm a geek that needs to own the physical. The only way i'm rationalising it is that the iTunes version will maybe come with the acoustic bonus tracks we've heard about, and the physical will have beautiful artwork and complete my collection. Plus if I download it in iTunes UK it will count as a sale here rather than an import, hopefully giving R&T tour insentive and V another few cents. Overthinking this too much? haha

I'm thinking because of the physical AND Vinyl release maybe they are running behind?  So digital will be 6/21 and the physical cd and vinyl in late July?

Yes, I am also a geek who has to have the physical copy and I'd rather not buy the same album twice but I don't want to wait until July to hear it. lol

Yeah, same here. I was probably going to buy it in all three different formats anyway. As long as we still get to hear on June 21st I'm happy!

That's what I thought! I could have sworn the vinyl's were already made?  Seems too me like the CD's are made too especially since different blogs and people already have copies.  I guess it could just be a screener copy....hmmmmm...this is weird.  I tweeted R&T about it...hopefully we get a response.

I'm planning on buying both the CD and the Vinyl, so I'll also illegally download it in June. As much as I love her music, I won't buy an album three times.

Oh f***! I was so looking forward to this (just like all of you did and are!!). That's terrible :( I mean, I live in Switzerland and the iTunes swiss store is really shitty and kinda expensive compared to the US one, chances are the record won't be released on that itunes store. The money isn't the problem when speaking about V - I was gonna buy at least three copies - the american copy I'd buy through the internet and a few weeks/months later another in a swiss store, and of course the vinyl. That just sucks. What is there with music labels?? Isn't the record bringing more money in once released than waiting on shelves?? I mean if they don't think this will sell "well" then what would be different a month later?? Time to have done some club mixes?? lol Give me a break and release the damn thing already!!
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11

I don't really see why they would push back the release unless the cd's are not made yet? or they want to add some tracks? no big releases are coming out that day..beyonce is coming out the week after(28th) but that would give v a week to shine on her own on shelves.

I tweeted as well. With less than a month to the supposed release date, they really need to clarify whether it's getting pushed back. imo, That's ridiculous of them to do so close to when the album was going to be released.

Confusion can hurt her record sales...

Exactly! God they cannot do this after confirming the June 21st date months ago. It's been spread around the internet and social media so much now and people know that as the date. It's when people's interest will peak, and casual fans will overlook coming back to buy it a month later if it's not available. R&T might not want to do this, we don't know whats going on behind the scenes with distribution/legality but I really hope we get at least the digital on the original date V announced in March. Why would they send her on tour if the record's not out?
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11
Post by: nutnlp on May 27, 2011, 07:24:58 pm
Yeah, the tour just seems odd now...what is she going to be promoting?? Her upcoming record?  Seems dumb since she's already played half of the record @ one-off's for over 2 years.  I really hope it doesn't delay the digital release but it looks like were gonna have to wait two months for the music.  Wonder if they will cancel all but the NYC shows?
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11
Post by: Martin. on May 27, 2011, 10:53:17 pm
I don't know why they've changed things around. Everything was going smoothly - anticipation for the album was getting bigger, Vanessa has sold out shows, critics who already heard the album love it, etc. It must be something big to cause them to push it back an extra month. They need to tell the fans what's up ASAP.

So just to check, Vanessa's songs are already being played in Starbucks, she's going on tour to promote an album that isn't even out yet & that her audience haven't heard and the sheet music book will be available before the album?

Well that's smart... ???

I guess we shouldn't be too mad until Razor & Tie confirms or denies this on Twitter or FB. Maybe the July 26th date is a mix-up with the sheet music book release date? (this is usually released later than the album itself)

I do hope digital and physical releases will be simultaneous because there's no way I'm buying digital cr*p! I won't freak out until this is confirmed though.

It would have been nice if she offered an explanation to the people who not only pre-ordered her album (myself included) but stood by her over the years (again, myself included) as to why they won't be getting her album/their purchase on the day they're expecting. It might "sound good" to her, but I'm kinda upset about this.

This kind of thing happens all the time. It could be several things, maybe they couldn't get the album mass produced how they wanted in time, maybe they wanted to release CD and vinyl on the same day, but most likely they just want more time to promote the album. It is what it is, we will all survive.  :)

That's right. Besides, I'm sure somebody will record the new songs, so maybe we will get to know all the songs in the album before it's even released. And that would make it waaaaaay less interesting.

It would have been nice if she offered an explanation to the people who not only pre-ordered her album (myself included) but stood by her over the years (again, myself included) as to why they won't be getting her album/their purchase on the day they're expecting. It might "sound good" to her, but I'm kinda upset about this.

Or at least apologized and acknowledged that she has fans that will be bummed by this news, instead of just "Ooh it's pushed back, that sounds good!"   :-\

This kind of thing happens all the time. It could be several things, maybe they couldn't get the album mass produced how they wanted in time, maybe they wanted to release CD and vinyl on the same day, but most likely they just want more time to promote the album. It is what it is, we will all survive.  :)

This is what pisses me off the most, the business and money making aspect taking precedence over the passionate fans who've been waiting to hear the music. She isn't going to have a big first week, or big numbers in general. It's already known this isn't a commercial album that's going to appeal to the masses. They could release it and promote it, which sounds like the better plan to me any way because people can go buy it as soon as they hear about it instead of waiting for something not yet released that they might forget about.

Sorry I'm venting so much frustration about this you guys.

Well, I am somewhat dissapointed that they moved this back an entire month. I wish they would have originally done this, as some others have said. But you know, this will only make the album more amazing when we hear it, because we've been waiting in such strong anticipation for months. So, there is that upside. Plus, signed vinyl?!?!?! Was waiting for the vinyl, but SIGNED! I am gonna do whatever it takes to get my hands on one of those, although that hopefully won't be too much! :) But the album will still be great. Also, in agreement, the shows WILL be kinda strange, but whatever. It's V, and we can't deny her.  ;D

I agree with Martin. I was literally counting down the days until the album's release, which kept getting closer and closer....then BAM, no album 'til July. We have a right to be pissed.

Vanessa said earlier that the album always was suposed to have 10 tracks. So it seems unlikely that she will add two new tracks on the physical cd. I think the reason is that they want to give her more PR. But it can very well back fire on the sales.

Pretty much the same as all of you guys- I've been eagerly awaiting this album since they announced the June release date and now I've found that it's been moved to July! I am annoyed, but as long as i get this music, i don't mind. I think you're right that she should give some sort of explanation as to WHY the album has been delayed because it's all very well saying that she appreciates us (I was chuffed when that came up on twitter ^_^) but i could do with a bit more clarification. Oh well, it's only another month i suppose :(
PS. Anyone know if V has any plans to come to the UK for touring?

Yeah, like somebody said this happens all the time....It's not going to kill me to wait but had been looking forward to having the album in 3 weeks for so long..so yeah, a little bummed.  Just kinda worried about going to the LA show now because I don't want to hear the entire album played live before I've heard it?

I totally know how you feel. When I listen to songs live first, it influences how I listen to the studio versions. So if I hear them all at the LA show, then I will always compare the studio version to how good it sounded live, and if it doesn't meet the "live standard" then I get kind of disappointed. That's just me. I'm bummed out too, but there's nothing we can do right? so I'll try not to let it get to me. Do you think we might get another single in that time to compensate?

I know what you  mean about the live/album versions, but I try to see the best and the differences in either because sometimes I like all the extras and then in other moods I like the stripped down stuff.  I would hope another single, but it seems too soon because Carousel just came out..

Man, I'm a little disappointed. July 26th? That's AGES away - if it was early July, that'd be OK I guess, but literally another month? I'm sure there was some explanation..but still, feeling a little deflated. But yeah, I bet she was here..V's a lurker for sure!

Even though I can't make it to the concerts (wrong country, damn it! V, come to Australia!!), I totally agree. I haven't listened to any of the live versions simply cos I want to hear the album for the first time, in all its perfection. Personally, I'd find it'd kinda suck to have the album played live before you get the chance to hear it properly :(

But anyways, putting aside my disappointment:

I'm starting to think it's done on purpose.
Because in the calligraphy it says "Rabbits". If it were a mistake, it surely would have been fixed very early on (I work for a book publisher, so trust me, they pick up on everything and anything ::) - almost irritatingly so!)
So I think that's just the name of the sheet music book - Rabbit on the Run.
I think it sounds nice. It sets it apart from the album.

Let's just hope it won't get pushed back again! Sorry to talk AGAIN about Michelle Branch but her album was pushed back like 5 times and then cancelled. This can not happen with this record... I'm starting to wonder why the hell V wouldn't just release it on her own.. Well, it's all for the best I guess

And yay for the music sheets!

AND that idea about only one person buying the digital album (IF it's even released digitally on june 21st) is an amazing idea. They won't get our money twice (than originally planned ;)).

It annoys me that they weren't more organised about this. I guess they want to get as many first week sales as possible, but now that the album has been distributed in full to so many reviewers, it could be a risky move to push it back a month. They now have incentive to leak it because it'll be even more anticipated, and frankly Razor & Tie is such a small label that I can't see them trying to stop a leak.
Title: Re: All Things "Rabbits on the Run" Due: 06.21.11
Post by: Martin. on May 29, 2011, 03:15:24 am
If they're expecting great sales (first week and/or overall) then they need to start promoting HARD. But again, that's something that should have been sorted out months ago. Who announces a release date and THEN thinks "oops, I wonder if the distributors can actually distribute the album from that day on?" or "oops, I just remembered we have to actually promote this album if we want it to sell"? Not saying that happened at all, but if that is the reason it's been delayed then it makes me question their professionalism. I mean, I don't think it's that ... this label have been around for years & released many albums from other artists so it's not like they're new to the whole process. It must be something important though to delay an album three weeks before it's scheduled to be released.

An explanation really would be nice.

A few thoughts after listening through them all a few times. I love how the loud analog hiss on London sounds like rain, though there could be a good chance it's actually a recordiing of rain lol. Hear the bells is gonna be a clear favourite for me, when it came on just I died. That voice, her melodies, the haunting prouction. Amazing! Dear California sounds lovely too, brings warmth to the album. I was basically on the verge of tears throughout these clips and have a strong feeling that this album will surpass harmonium as my favourite record. The whole things sounds so dreamlike and timeless. God I can't wait!!

I love the snippets, they really make me want the entire album, you get into the song and it just cuts off. I think my favourite is going to be the Marching Line, i've loved it ever since the snippet. Doesn't Fairweather Friend sound really different with a bit of percussion and strong strings behind it, it's beautiful.

I can sort of see why that one reviewer said the lyrics were a little hard to make out on In the End, but i think using a slow version of TTFS is really quite clever.

I'm a bit confused about the album classification, it doesn't strike me as a Pop album, when the others are all Lady Gaga and Adele, i never associate Vanessa with those artists.

woooow. i LOVE the marching line, fair-weather friends, i don't wanna be a bride and tall tales for spring.
hear the bells definitely reminds me of kimya dawson (like someone said the marching line sounded like her in the making of video), and dear california really sounds like a "70s road trip" hahaha.
i'm really curious about in the end. it really sounds weird. it's hard to hear her voice but... well, let's wai to the full song. :)

I know we just get a few seconds of vocals on the "in the end" clip, but I think she says "in the end, we begin again". I understand what that reviewer meant but I think we'll be able to make out the words without too much difficultly, plus it will add to the mood of the song.

London: Loved the "Ocean" sounds in the background.
Hear the Bells: Had my hair standing on end. SHUT THE EFFIN HELL UP!!! I loved the lyrics... The greystones bit... WHAT WHAT WHAT. Somebody say Stonehenge??? ;-)
Dear California: Poppy-ish. But not judging :D
Get Good: STRINGS!!!?
The Marching Line: This song is going to make me cry one day. DEFINITELY.
In the end: So bloody effin intelligent.

This is obviously from the clips. I haven't heard the album like the rest of you guys :D

This is amazing. I made the promise to myself of not going to listen to these snippets once they come out, but now that the album has been pushed and other month?....can't help it.

I'm wow'd with all the songs, more than i expected i was going to be. I wasn't really a "London" fan, not until i heard the snippet on the video that is, it got me really excited. And now i hear this? i'm definitely in love.. WHY ANOTHER MONTH GOD DAMNIT.

"In the End" reminds me "Time" by Hans Zimmer from the Inception soundtrack. In the movie, this track was even slowed down during the elevator sequence
(at 1:57:50 if you have the DVD/Blu-Ray)

i would love if someone made all of the previews into a single track fading them into each other. i'll do it if i have time.

Tall Tales For Spring could be something right off Harmonium. The drums remind me a lot of Half A Week Before The Winter. Nothing bad about that though.

Based on those I can't see this out doing Harmonim or Heroes & Thieves to me. Though these albums are both exceptional, and in saying that "Rabbits" will probably still be a favorite of mine. Tall Tales for Spring and Fair Weather Friends are the two I'm enjoying the most, but I can see myself enjoying them all.

Haha I must be in the minority, because while I was listening to them (thanks so much TRINIST for posting!) all I could think about was "damn, these would sound SO good if they were produced more like Heroes and Thieves."  For me that's just the best album she's had, I love every song and I thought the album as a whole had a really great sound, so I kinda wish all of the songs I've heard up to now - like "Fairweather Friend" and "I Don't Want to Be a Bride" - were produced that way since that was how I was imagining them.  Different strokes for different folks, right?

Still, some of these sound REALLY great.  In particular, I loved "Dear California" immediately, and "Tall Tales for Spring" and "Get Good" were standouts as well.  "Fairweather Friend" isn't quite the way I wanted it to sound, but it's still good.

Argh, so excited!

I'm currently listening to the clips over and over again. Even though they are so short, I think I can say that this will be my favorite album to date. It has the same magic as Harmonium, and a dreaminess reminiscent of 'She Floats', which was previously my favorite of Vanessa's songs.

Two, however, caught me very off-guard. I was expecting 'I Don't Want to Be a Bride' to sound bolder, and 'Tall Tales for Spring' to sound a bit softer. But I think I like them better this way; it makes them more unique.

I can't decide which song is my favorite; I'll probably be able to once the album is out (in way too long :'( ). I love this whole album so much.

connected.  It makes me feel like there is someone out there who gets it. who gets me.  And like others have said, makes you feel like HOME.  Her voice, her sound, something about it just wraps around the heart, mind, and soul.  It doesn't smother, but it doesn't let you go either.

I agree about IDWTBAB, I was expecting to love it and have it instantly be my favorite, but in all the clips, it gets kind of lost. I think once we hear the whole thing it will have more room to shine.

Oh, yeah! I was thinking that, or maybe some of darker stuff from the LOST soundtrack by Michael Giacchino. Because I didn't hear vocals til the end, I was kind of hoping it might be an all instrumental piece. I would totally love that. An all instrumental studio-quality piece.

Her vocals are also so beautiful with the analog sound.

Wow. Thank you so much for the link to the clips. It is interesting how they appear on the Amazon UK site, but not on the US site yet.

I'll need to give them a few listens before I have my reactions. But after a quick run through, the sound aesthetic of the album as a whole is very interesting. It definitely has a narrative feel. I am  looking forward to hearing the complete tracks and how they flow from one to the next.

Yeah see I'm usually a lot more pop-oriented, which is why I liked H&T so much.  But that's the power of Vanessa, she can cater to a lot of different types of listeners because her music just transcends all boundaries and labels. (I guess that was my podium moment haha)

I can NOT get "Get Good" out of my head.  I'm just listening to the sample over and over - I never would have thought THAT would be the song I was dying to get my hands on...

I'm starting to find the drums in "Tall Tales for Spring" really distracting.  Anyone else think it's a little much?

This exactly. I don't know.. I think the sound actually ruined some of the songs.

Fairweather Friends remains my favorite, even though the original lyrics in my opinion were the best. </3 It's produced great, though.

It's sad, but it's almost a letdown to see some of these songs recorded on analog. Some fit, but others were clearly meant for a higher method of recording.

Holy bats..................

I was saying SHIT the whole time. (Please, forgive the word)

What a great way to start Monday. (:

1) Carousel - We already know this. (: Colorful palette.
2) I Don't Want To Be A Bride - Really BOLD. Sounds more sweet than ever to me. This deserves a good spot light.
3) London - I like the kind of noise in the background. It reminds me of those old movies. Another thing - I'm in love with the ethereal vibe.
4) Fair - Weather Friend - I thought that this was going to the direction of Fools Like Me. But man, they are different. I bet that the bridge would be more awesome.
5) Hear The Bells - It's like going into a trance. The vibe I get is the one from Sia, Enya, and such. This is the dreamiest of all, I must say. (Before, I thought it was going to be a song about marriage. I was wrong.)
6) Dear California - What can I say? It's totally unexpected, but in a good way. One of the lightest V song I've ever heard.
7) Tall Tales For Spring - The percussions are just great. Not as dark as expected. (: Hawkings is one sure
great man.
8) Get Good - Ha! I knew this song would be great. I knew it. I just knew it.
9) The Marching Line - This one is already my favorite because of the Four Elements. I fell in love more with the snippet.
10) In The End - Chaotic, as she told in her bio. But there is a mystery here. And I'd like to discover that mystery. (:

This is the greatest batch of V's songs.

Well, you could give it time

Hear the bells
Hear the bells
December, crossing of the travelers...

In The End:

Fair-Weather Friends
...Home alone
Found your letter on a full moon Sunday night
Some other girl, and he spelled, casting plans for her life
Pour the vodka, and it dulls sharp eyes
Breathe the words, diamonds on rings.

WHOAA THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I was going to wait for the album before hearing any of it, but hell now that we have to wait til July, it's too long to wait!! I'll only listen to them once each though :)

i love it. there isn't a single track preview that doesn't cause little earthquakes in my heart.

i would love if someone made all of the previews into a single track fading them into each other. i'll do it if i have time.
I'll make it now :D Thanks Pushglow for the snippets!!

They were all so beautiful..but in particular, London: gave me goosebumps..Hear the Bells was also hauntingly beautiful.

I have to say guys. You need to remember that the snippet audio files are in poor poor poooor quality. So i think we really need to wait to hear the album versions to criticize the analog sound.
I personally love it and im sure i will love it a hundred times more when i finally hear the whole album :)

I just noticed that R&T uploaded this to Vanessa's youtube on friday:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOVFK-CEaUI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOVFK-CEaUI)
It's just the audio for Carousel, but it still has the old release info. Why would they upload this on the 27th? We found out about the date change over the weekend. Is it really stupid of me to think there still might be a tiny chance we get it digitally on the 21st next month? V mentioned the vinyls in the same tweet as the date change, and they still haven't changed the date on vanessacarlton.com. Amazon.com still lists June 21st for the digital. Just being a foolish hopeful, aren't I? I guess we'll see if a pre-order goes up tomorrow or not.

It's also possible that these people are just as incompetent when it comes to promotion as the last label Vanessa worked with.  Based on what I've seen so far, it's entirely possible.  I mean, tweeting the video a couple of times isn't promotion.  She hasn't been on any tv shows or anything.

I hope it is released on the 21st of June. I know lots of Uk releases tend to get physical releases almost a month after a digital release. Gaga's Born This Way is bein released to vinyl almost a month after the album release, so who knows?

I couldn't bear to listen to the clips, though. So long. I'm worried they might take away from listening to the album for the first time. Now i'm super excited. WE shall have the album on June 21st then. :)

The website may have not been updated in awhile. iTunes may also not have been notified just yet that the release date changed.

But if Vanessa is saying July, I'll believe it is indeed July because that's more straight from the source.

Sorry I'm like flooding the forum.

I highly suggest for everyone to go listen to the previews that have been revealed on iTunes. They are 1:30, and they are exquisite. They definitely sound much better than the low kbps mp3s we had from Amazon. So much more pleased than I initially was.

Omgosh I'm listening to all the itunes previews right now and they all sound so wonderful <3 Between these and the Amazon clips, we pretty much have two full minutes of all the songs. IDWTBAB sounds better just like I knew it would with a longer clip. It actually kind of brought me to tears lol. London is stunningly beautiful. I'm sad though; she changed the lyric to my favorite part in Fairweather Friend :( I loved the "I'm just as clever, it's not technically cheating if..." But omg the strings and the choir coming in at the end of the preview made up for it. It gave me chillssss. Hear the Bells continues the mystical lyrics/sound side of the album; her voice in the bridge is so creepy and different, I love it! Dear California is so poppy and feels like a sunny day lol I think it's going to definitely be one of my absolute favorites on the album. The piano and instrumental bit in TTFS surprised me, but I love that it's a little bit harder. It give a good contrast to the album having so many soft songs. I don't know where Get Good falls for me after hearing the longer sample of it. It'll probably be a grower if I don't love the song instantly. The Marching Line is my going to be my favorite. Instrumental/lyrics/vocal/everything so far = amazing. When the drums kick in, I got chills again. In The End creeps me outttttttttt but it's so neat the way they made her vocals blend in and seem so ghost-like or something, which again, there's that mystical/supernatural vibe. These clips give a damn good snapshot of the album, and from the sound of it, it's another perfect record from Vanessa. Four years was so worth the wait, and there won't be an issue waiting another four for the next record with how timeless this one is. <3

I literally went on iTunes this morning like "ugh, I'm sure it's not up, but... I just have to CHECK..."

I've never been happier to be wrong :D

I love how Bride builds into the second verse.  Same with London.  I was surprised/amazed to hear the first chorus almost totally a cappella.  Dear California remains the song I'm most excited about, it's so light and fun.  And Get Good is just... so good XD

All in all, hearing the iTunes previews has made me SO much more excited for ROTR.  Wow, can't wait!!!  And it's out June 21!!!

Dear Calinfornia is sooo catchy.  ("your face is like a papercut to the heart"--ingenious lyric) The 30 sec clip from amazon was in my head all night at work,  BRide sounds great.  I"m a little disappointed with london thus far though, it is one of my favs...I think it just doesn't have the same gusto as a live performance does.  album does remind of me a lazy sunday or lazy summer day.  love the harmonies that begin when get good cuts off.  chills with in the end.  but yes, hard to understand but it's obviously on purpose.

I agree with this. I think this is one record that you'd want to listen throughout Sundays over and over again. I remember V saying that she'd like to create something like this.

I do like the violin on it.  I think they are each good in their own right.  At least it (the second, acoustic version) exists right?

Keep checking back while I continue to upload them. They are all available to download, so I hope that's alright! If I'm not allowed I will remove the download links.

I recorded it digitally using Audacity, which is lined up to my computer stereo sound, so it records directly from iTunes. As far as I know it's impossible to actually rip the files from the store, but my recordings are all in the highest quality I could do, so I hope that's enough!

First thank you to paganpoet!
Just heard the long snippets and I'm speachless (which is why I came over here to write a bit :P). WOW, really...

Guys, we all agree on this: Next year, Vanessa will AT LEAST get a Grammy nomination for this? This is so unbelievable. I love Heroes & Thieves, adore Harmonium but this... I've never heard something like that before. Well, I was completely aware that this would blow me away but THAT far?! Each song is a masterpiece, she took her art (and music in general) on such another level. This is so original, in music nowadays and in her catalogue. "Dear California" reminds of Liz Phair but Liz Phair in the early 90's (listen to "Divorce Song" before telling me I'm wrong), of course it's very much Vanessa-esque :) I've nothing more to add, I could go on and tell you why I ADORE those songs, but they speak for themselves. It's impossible not to love them and even less likely over here. Best. Music. Ever.
Thank you Vanessa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS : Vanessa, if you ever read this, if you'd like to be forgiven for your album being delayed (lol I know it's not your fault and you have nothing to be forgiven for anyway...) well, you know how unbelievably amazingly awesome "Best Behaviour" would sound with those kind of arrangements.... :):)

I looove these. I get what one of the reviewers was trying to say about the bad sound though. In The End her voice is really muffled under all the production. It's so hard to hear. I wish there was an acoustic for Bride!

After listening to Bride several times, I think it has to grow on me. I loved the live performance of it in Nashville. It sounds like she's singing in a lower key in the album version and some parts aren't as pretty to me.... =\ I hate to hate on it lol. I just loved how sweet her vocals were in the live version and how faster paced it was, but I guess she wanted to go in a darker route. I hope the rest of the song will convince me.

I don't usually post- mostly just lurk on here, but these snippets made me so excited!!!!! This is her best work to date. A lot of her songs sound like they would be perfect on film soundtracks or tv shows (which would be great for promotion too!).

I kept my itunes store open when I shut the computer (laptop sleep mode) it's still working for me, needless to say I'm not going to close it out!
I agree with bride being magic---it just builds and builds.  very majestic sounding as well. this will make a great follow up single, also a very hopeful song even though it's about not want to be married, it's still an overall positive song.  I agree with her song being good soundtrack music which IS great exposure. The work she has done here is surely one of a kind.  I don't think everyone will get it.  I'm not sure it will be a mass hit like I was hoping it would be for her.  I'm not sure about grammy's but I would sure love to see it!

This makes me so mad, they should have had all this stuff sorted out so long ago. But at least we have the clips and the Starbucks rips, and hopefully the album will just leak soon now since they've already sent it out to reviewers, etc. I feel bad saying that about a leak because I'm usually the person waiting to listen to everything on the release date and never before, but pushing it back this close to when it was supposed to be released is so. ridiculous. I've been through a lot of (excuse my language) fuckery as a fan waiting on album releases, but I've never seen something like this. There's obviously nothing to do now but wait and get what we get, but I'm not going to be pleased about it.

If you go to R&T's twitter, they said two hours ago that the preorder would be back up soon (now it's totally down, even if you go to the direct link someone posted earlier).

I wonder if I will have to pre-order again... I'd hate to accidentally pre-order it twice XD

Alrighty guys, I took it upon myself to create some "extended" previews taking the amazon.uk and iTunes samples and splicing them into longer tracks.

PLEASE DO NOT REPOST THESE TO YOUTUBE OR ELSEWHERE.

- Each track is about 1:50.
- "Hear The Bells" is not included as the new preview covered the old one.
- On some tracks it is more noticeable where the mark is simply because of the quality difference between amazon and iTunes.

Enjoy!

And it appeared Mexico iTunes messed up and whoever pre-order got to have it on the May. Things happen.

a spam link one would get for trying to find a leak of the album from google.

probably trying to steal your credit card info or something else.

i highly suggest not looking for an album leak if you don't know what you're doing.
there are tons of fakes out there trying to scam you.

Enjoy!

omg. No, no, no. Nessa shouldn't do that. It's absolute torture that none of us Lindsay fans can hear that unheard song. I believe it's called "Fill It Up" omg. I've been waiting yeeeears for that song. =\ The other songs from her birthday playlist were leaked except that one. lol.

Oh but if you're talking about him promoting her new album, then that's fine. Just don't give him any demos hahah.

I was honestly shocked when Perez posted the Carousel video.  I'm sure the label made a deal with Perez.  I was suprised to see Stevie on that site well.  I just don't see that site being a good match...yeah, it gets tons of traffic but those people are the wrong demographic.  I don't think it would help sales much.  Its just not a good match for V.

Perez did not have good things to say about her after she "came out" as bisexual.  He said that he hates it when celebrities do things like that for attention.  As we know, that is not the case - and she said that in her after ellen interview. but that is where he went with her statement.

edit: my point in saying this is that I'm not sure he does like her and even if he did, if I were here, I would not have appreciated that, and would want an apology!

"The Marching Line" has been in my head all day! I really love this song and can't wait to hear the entire track.

The sound of  "In the End" makes me feel like it belongs in the score of *Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind* .

So far, "Hear The Bells" isn't doing anything for me.

Actually i hope that NEVER happens.... I can't stand people like Perez who only get famous for making a mockery of other people. He is the worst kind of person. I was so angry that the Carousel video was only available on his website (for a while) i waited till it was on youtube. I just don't want to support him in anyway.

He's just a mean-spirited person.  Let's not waste any of our precious time dignifying his existence with our attention. XD

I still wish we got some sort of explanation regarding the push-back.  My friend who's a music producer said these things happen occasionally and might be because they're tweaking the album (like adding in a song or remastering or something), but she has no connection to R&T or Vanessa so her guess is as good as ours.  -shrugs-

Did anyone notice that when it was up on iTunes for pre-order it had the regular tracklist + the three acoustic live versions of carousel, tall tales for spring, and london but it also included two videos. The four factors to her album and there was something else like the making of rabbits on the run. So, wishful thinking here, but I hope this is going to still be true and It'll be as magical if not more magical then pleased to meet you =)))

I just think her voice has grown and she doesn't need to scream (as others have pointed out she has in the past) to get her point accross.  It seems like a very mellow record, but I don't see that as a bad thing.
I see the point about lacking intensity but I just think it's a different way of her singing rather than her being bored--try to think of it that way instead and maybe it will be a better experience for you?

Well, the pre-order was taken down so it's safe to assume that it won't receive an early digital release. Although that could possibly change once R&T figures out about the leak. Release dates for songs and albums are pushed up due to leaks every now and again. A LQ snippet of "Judas" by Lady Gaga leaked a couple days before the scheduled release date and that song was on iTunes by day's end. It could happen.

My other thought is that maybe she's going to sell the album at the shows? It's a long shot but I mean, it's clear the album isn't being pushed back because of last minute changes to any of the songs or additions to the tracklist.  ???

I definitely won't be buying the bonus acoustic versions - she sounds like a child in them.  I think she's going for the Regina Spektor, young and innocent voice thing, and it just doesn't work for her.  I like it when her voice is stronger and more assertive, a la "This Time."

The new release date for Vanessa Carlton’s upcoming album Rabbits on the Run is now July 26th.  Vanessa will hit the road in June to preview the album nationwide and perform three sold-out shows at Joe’s Pub in New York City (tour dates below).

thats all it says about the changed date matter.

Stirringly soulful singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton is prepping the release of her fourth studio album, Rabbits On The Run on July 26, and already we cannot tear ourselves away from her new video, "Carousel," in which she wanders around the woods in a variety of bohemian outfits that we very much covet. (Girlfriend can pull off a fedora!) The video was directed by Jake Davis, who's also worked with My Chemical Romance, and although it's decidedly less ornate than his work for the grandiose pop-rockers, his hands shines through in the gorgeous shots and lush colors.

"Carousel" has an undeniably comforting folk feel to it (think Regina Spektor or Feist), with a touch of Billy Joel in the piano part (can't be mad at that) and a hauntingly layered chorus. "Carousel" was produced by Steve Osborne, who's worked with U2 and The B-52s, and was recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios, which only gives Vanessa additional classic rock cred."Love comes back around again, it's a carousel, my friend," sings Vanessa, in a voice soothing enough to make broken-hearted kids everywhere believe it.

VEry true... but what I see is even more pointless is buying the Cd and the digital. I'm gonna get the Cd, rip to itunes, and then just download the bonus tracks.... Suggestion for some people? :)

It would be nice to have the behind the scenes from the Carousel video though.  I am not a digital person much, I love to have the booklet in my hands, not just something I read on the computer (just like I prefer a real book to E -readers/kindle)

I'm preordering it so I can get it the minute it gets put onto iTunes (hopefully a little after midnight), instead of forgetting to check that night and having to download it the next morning and then be late for work XD

Sometimes there are incentives (with Sara Bareilles' "Kaleidoscope Heart," for instance, you got a special bonus track if you preordered it).  Now I'm just doing it for practical purposes.

Digital booklet... what's that???

You know the little booklet that comes with the physical cd that rests inside the cd case?  It's that, in pdf format, and usually exactly the same (I had the digital booklet for Heroes and Thieves until my computer crashed, and in that case it was the same as the physical booklet)

The album would have been released next week! :(

Still can't believe the album leaked already and we have over a month to wait for its official release and there's been NO word from Vanessa or the label re: the leak!

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that too, even though I feel kind of bad for downloading the bonus tracks. I want the physical copy and the only acoustic track that I really want is "Tall Tales for Spring," so I think it would be okay. And I agree that it's pointless to buy both the physical and digital. I'm trying to save money ;)

On the Australian iTunes, the only version of ROTR available for pre-order is the ordinary 10-track album with digital booklet, not the deluxe album with three bonus acoustic tracks.
Do any other international fans have the deluxe version available?
I see no reason why we can't have the deluxe version too?? :-\

Oh, I just did a bit of digging last night.

This was all on tweets:

A girl said her friend was part of Vanessa's new music video, which was shot last week. I think a few of her friends were, actually. Or that might have been someone else. Not sure.
Someone (Starkonline - dunno who/what that is) also said they were shooting the video with Vanessa, and then in another tweet said they were at Central Park shooting a video.

I think everyone's assumed it's "Dear California" because the label have put a bit of effort into getting the song out there (YouTube, Facebook, etc). There's been no confirmation on what the next single is, as far as I'm aware.

Hey guys, do the tracks of the album sund like with a loud "pop" all trough out the song... I don't know if I make myself clear... As if it was playing on vinyl.. It sounds like "pop.....pop.....pop" throughout the sound? Does it happen?

You can clearly hear it at the beginning of London...

No, it's good quality. I mean, if you don't know that it was recorded analogically, you wouldn't even tell.

What idiot made THAT decision?

Part of me wonders if they're gonna just act like Carousel never happened, and use Dear California or Bride as the single once the album comes out in... two weeks?

They need to remove the song from itunes because once the album been release, they need to unified the sales, but maybe my theory is not true because the release is until july 26.

Yep, seems like Razor&Tie wants to unify the sales. "Carousel" is also not available on Amazon Mp3 and listed as a July 26th release now.

If you preorder ROTR, does Carousel download immediately?  Because I know that's how it works with some artists, you get their single when you preorder the whole album.  If that's the case, then it makes sense for them to take down the single since it's a redundancy.

If that's not the case, then people have no way of buying Carousel on iTunes right now.  That's a shame.  Not to mention pointless.

But wow, just over a week until ROTR is officially released, right??  That's crazy...

Seems alittle odd that they are not blowing up the twitter and different outlets with news of in-store appearances, signings, pre-orders, etc.  I was hoping they'd release the signed cds/vinyls through her website around this time to get the word out about the album...most of the promotion she did last month seems almost pointless since the album isn't out yet.  glad shes atleast doing leno.

Maybe you´re right. But I have hope that Leno will kick her sales up. I think 10 000 isn't an unreachable goal, but i don't really know how big Leno is in the states these days.
