And well... her voice kinda cracked on the "afternoooooon" bit in the bridge and my friend (unfortunately a really pretty/good one) kept giving me sh!t about how awful she sounded. :P
That bit is a bit tricky to sing. I don't blame her.
But I love how when she stood up and suddenly it was like... Wait, did she forget her pants? And Gordon Ramsey was like "Hello there! ;)".
But meh... awesome news yo!

i think vanessa sounded OKAY. it wasn't the best vocal she's ever given (i think her radio performances were the best) but it wasn't the worst. but hitting those high notes right before getting into the bridge was awful to listen to. and it didn't help having the stupid violin woman sing along too. i think vanessa fired her because she messed up a few times and was just generally bad.

The problem with the violin is that 1) it just follows the melody, so there's no real harmonizing happening and 2) there's no proper microphone.
But I admit that the percussions are great.
The vocals? well, this was the time when V preferred the husky, low voice. Based on what I heard, she didn't get back yet to the falsetto, sweet voice at the time she played the song. There was some strain, obviously, but I think she pulled through it. At least, her voice didn't crack or whatever. It's not the best vocals, not the worse.
And I think, V hadn't met Skye yet during this times...

Yeh I suppose, but she wasn't crazy like she is now. Believe me, i was a fan for YONKS before 19 because i live near the brit school and saw her perform there :) But yeah i still didn't think she was properly in the spotlight till Someone like you really.

Well she wasn't famous in America really until recently, was she? I still think she was quite well known over here. Ssh, don't tell anyone, but I think 21 is a bit boring and overrated. A couple of fantastic songs though.

I AGREE. I love someone like you (but the album version sucks) i love turning tables. I love one and only and i love take it all. Rumour has it is quite good too because it's different. Not TOO fussed on the rest tbh. They're no Hometown glory that's for sure.

Do artists who perform on Leno get to play one song, or two? I know they wouldn't be able to do two songs in a row, but I thought maybe they might do one during their times, and then another to end the show or something. I'm too lazy to go watch an episode and find out for myself haha.

they give u 4 days of preference on what day you want to go, i just put 7/27 on all of them... and there's a box that says special request and i just put "im a big vanessa carlton fan!! may i please get some tickets???!!!:D" next thing you know i got a confirmation email... :D... you just gotta show them some love! i got 3 tickets... i might have an extra one depending if my friend decides to go with me or not... but i also have to ask for the day off. you have to check in no later than 2:45pm, i believe they start recording the show at 4pm... i've done a lot of these t.v. audience type of shows lol

I was smiling the whole time I watched it! I was excited to see everyone with her. Just as I was thinking "I wonder if the nessaholics who went will clap" the band clapped! I was soo excited! she was a little shaky in the beginning but got stronger. I too noticed the ending, but not a big deal, I'm sure if that guy really wants to shake her hand he will go back up to her!

I get what you are saying. Her live performances are actually usually a lot more mellow than that, so that was actually a step up.. I'm not saying mellow is a bad thing, but they are usually more..thoughtful and expressive.

I don't think that was vinyl. Every time he introduces an artist he always puts a large cardboard version of the album cover on his desk for the camera to see and then says "my next guest...yada yada yada." It did kinda look like vinyl, though (and maybe it was, maybe Nessa gave him one of hers).

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of this performance. Definitely a step up from some of her other Carousel performances, but still way too mellow for my tastes. What I love about the studio version is that it's so light and "bouncy" at the chorus, and I felt like this was too much of a dirge. It was cool that she had four back-up musicians with her, though.

I think it was the vinyl he was holding. It's the vinyl cover and if you look closely, you can see her name on the side of the vinyl just before he slams it down on the desk.

But, yeah has anyone noticed how her head twists back up when she sings "Time will wait" for the first time.
I feel she does it everytime she sings that part.
