Well, it needs to be a single. It's destined to be one.
Besides, it's one of the most talked-about songs based on the interviews and reviews. Just notice how almost each of the interviews posted online involves at least one question about Bride.
Maybe they're saving the best for the last?

i love IDWBAB but in my opinion I would love to hear Dear California on the radio as the next single :)

i think "dear california" is more immediately accessible - it's more one-listen catchy than "i don't want to be a bride" is. it's also more in sync with the summer season. it's a nice contrast, too, to heavily produced pop with smart-ass lyrics and should stir some sentimentality up.
if this is the next single, it's the right move.
and then "i don't want to be a bride" when there's some interest in vanessa carlton as an artist again.

Firstly, they need to put that video up again. What was it a video of btw?
And secondly, I think it would be an amazing song to release with the release of the album. Just to you know... get people's attention to the album and the song.
You have to admit, the song is kinda "commercial" sounding. Though it is actually such a lovely song lyrically. If you look beyond its superficiality, I find the lyrics pretty meaningful.
I find the lyrics a "bit" relatable.

I'd really like for Dear California to be the next single (even though when I first heard Bride I -insisted- that should be the first single). That picture really doesn't go with the song, though. I see her on a roadtrip over the Golden Gate bridge haha

Oh man, I missed the video! Dang!
"Dear California" would be an awesome second single. I don't know why but it feels very summer-ish to me. I thought it was okay first but now I really dig it. It's definitely a grower for me.

Maybe it's a promotional single. Many artists release songs ahead of time before an expected album is released.

If Dear California was to be the next single, then this would be a good move.
It encourages people to purchase the song on iTunes/amazon.
If the song is still available on youtube when they officially release it, it may affect sales, as people can just rip it off youtube.

Well I heard they shot "Dear California" last week, but if they wanted to make it a single then why upload it, delete it, re-upload it, delete it again, etc? Doesn't make sense.
Anyway, here's to the next single. I wonder if she'll be performing THIS single on Jay Leno or "Carousel".

Definitely release this next to help push the album, and then after I think they'd be stupid not to release "Bride" because almost in every interview/review it's been called "the hit of the album".

Hypothetically, if I weren't a NESSAholic. I listened to Carousel somewhere. I decided to find out who the artist was. It turns out to be Vanessa. I visit the official site. I sign up to their mailing list to find out when this new album (of which I have no idea what any of the songs on the tracklist are) is dropping. Suddenly I get a mail talking of this song called Dear California. I would start assuming that that would be the next single. They refer to it as her "new song".
Also, I think she wants to release it summer.
Just saying.
:-\ It's just that they aren't saying there are 15 tracks on this album and we would like you to sample one. In that case I think they should've chosen Bride. :P
But I wouldn't stick to my comments. I wouldn't be surprised if I have to eat this entire post when it isn't the next release so... I know they are saying new song and not new single or next single, so yes I give into the option of it being a "maybe".
EDIT: The subject of the mail was also West Coast Shows & "Dear California" Premiere.

Lady Gaga came out with a couple of promotional singles just before her new album came out - one of them ("Edge of Glory") turned into an actual single, and one of them didn't; they were just available on iTunes and YouTube to get people excited for the new album. It's possible that that's what Vanessa's team is doing, using "Dear California" to get people excited for the new album. However, my guess is that, regardless of what's happening right now with it, it WILL be the next single.

It's definitely a contender for a single (along with Bride in my opinion). I just point out that nothing is official. Just like people thought that Dance Tonight and the other song, were on the CD and they are not. (but that didn't come from the label I know) but it was never officially announced or on any official list. I have learned not to assume

there is confirmation from V on what was going on there, like Byoung said. I don't think there is a video being shot ..wasn't she already in California when that rumor surfaced?

"I've been playing "I Don't Want To Be a Bride" for our little video shoot all day" (still, not a music video. Could be promotional, could be bonus content, could be part of a "pleased to meet you" part two)
"As luck would have it a 42-piece children's choir was singing" --hence, no planned choir, hence, no storyboard for a musical video as I am assuming there is some sort of planned concepts for a musical video/vision.
To me, this doesn't seem like a musical video shoot, just a video shoot for other purposes. I could be WAY off, I don't presume to be the authority on anything, these are just my thoughts. I'm very doubtful on the rumors of a video shoot, even though friends of friends have said they are in the video -- I mean, I could tell you my friend Elizabeth has a friend named Windy who has a race car that was in a commercial. And while those people I've named are very real people, you're taking it from me that what I say is true (is it?).
Last time, when the Carousel video was being shot there were things going around Twitter from the people actually DOING the shoot, like the camera man and the person doing the editing. We have none of that, just one rumor.

And another dude posted on the same day of the shoot saying they were going to be down there with Vanessa, and when no one knew where it was, he posted a few hours later saying he was at Central Park with Vanessa, so...
They're obviously not official sources, but they're fairly reliable. Everything they tweeted - albeit not much - was true.
I do agree that it might not be a proper music video though, like "Carousel" or "Nolita Fairytale" or whatever. Regina Spektor did a few vidoes that were just made for the internet with her last album. "Eet" (which I think later got released) and "Dance Anthem of the 80s" were both promo vids shot with the intention of promoting the album a bit more online. Maybe Vanessa's doing that?
I know she's on a budget, but even THAT sounds a bit cheap for a music video - especially to a huge song like "I Don't Want To Be A Bride".

They should make an official music video where V is dressed up as a bride, and she's like singing it sadly while she's getting married. And probably somewhere they can show her happy with the guy, but without a wedding ring of some sort! :) And her parents can make a cameo role in the MV as her parents at the wedding happy for her!

Not really. I remember Heroes & Thieves sticker stated "Nolita Fairytale" & "Home". But very likely that Bride will be the 2nd.
