I thought this would be fun - tell us your favorite song from each of her albums! It's a challenge, because you can only choose ONE from each album! No ties, no second places, just tell us your one favorite from each! It's tough to choose, but it's a good excuse to listen to all of your Vanessa songs again, (as though you needed another reason ;) )
Here are my picks:
Be Not Nobody: Twilight (the version that's more orchestral, with woodwinds and everything - so pretty!)
Harmonium: Private Radio (I actually just discovered this song a few days ago, and I'm LOVING it)
Heroes and Thieves: More Than This (This was the hardest for me to choose since I love so much of this album, but I chose this one because I remember hearing the intro on her old site back before H&T came out and being absolutely mesmerized)
Rabbits on the Run: Dear California (Another tough choice, but this is the only song I love ALL of, whereas most of the others I just love the second half after it builds up)
You can also include favorite unreleased track and favorite from her demo, but I didn't since I don't know any of those haha

You're really going to make me do this.... ;)
Demo: Faces (The "I'm living for, sure" Line made me fall in love with the song)
Rinse: Superhero
BNN: Wanted or Twilight
Harmonium: Who's To Say (This song made me fall in love with Vanessa. This is one of my favorite songs ever!)
H&T: More Than This (My motto. I adore this song soooo much because of the lyrics. This is the other one of my favorite songs ever! )
ROTR: Hear The Bells (The bridge... Wow)
Unreleased: Best Behaviour (Instantly fell in love with the song the first time I heard it)
Cover: Where The Streets Have No Name ( I found this song a few days ago and now I can't stop listening to it.)

I always see these threads and think "Ooh, this is going to be fun :D", only to find myself sitting in corner 10 minutes later going "But I love them alllll :'(" Anyway, I'm going to do this through a very intense and painful process of elimination. I'm also going to be a freak and name my favorite of well... many things... because I'm crazy. Here I go!
Demo Tape: Last Fall (This is not her best song technically, but there's something about its raw and unbalanced writing that's haunting. Almost like Tim Burton's older films.)
Rinse: Carnival (No explanation needed. One of the best songs ever... at least in my opinion.)
BNN: Sway (I wasn't expecting this to be, because all the songs on BNN are really cool, but by battling each one against eachother it seems to have won. Awesome.)
Harmonium: She Floats (Possibly my favorite V song ever. I actually liked it even before I'd actually heard it... somehow I ended up with the Harmonium piano book before the album many years ago. Not sure how that happened.)
H&T: This Time (I feel this song gets a lot of hate, but I really like it. That fact may or may not have influenced my decision. ;))
ROTR: Tall Tales for Spring (Very hard decision, but something about this song just works so well. Can't quite explain it.)
Unreleased: Morning Sting (My favorite unreleased one changes by the day.)
Cover: Where The Streets Have No Name (So great.)
-
Demo: Last Fall (I like the melody of the verses, and the way she sang them)
Rinse: Superhero (It was the first song I really got into on it)
BNN: ATM (I just really had to choose it :P )
Harmonium: White Houses/Who's To Say (I can't choose between them! I just really love the lyrics of White Houses and how it always gets stuck in my mind. But Who's To Say gets stuck in my head, and I find playing on piano to be really fun)
H&T: Home (It's mostly because of the lyrics and the outro. I used to always play it, kind of nonstop)
ROTR: Dear California (listened to the preview once and fell in love with the music & lyrics :) )
Unreleased: Best Behavior (I don't know how to explain why I like this the most)
Cover: Time Is On My Side (I like the original version and I find her laugh in the bridge oddly adorable)
I'll just add this one lol
Featured: Big Yellow Taxi (Even if she doesn't really do much, I like the Counting Crows!)

this is gonna be hard...
Demo: Faces (makes me realize that the best way to live is... just live.)
Rinse: Superhero (a asking-for-help kind of song.)
Be Not Nobody: Ordinary Day (a love everyone wants to have.)
Harmonium: C'est La Vie (there is vanessa telling you that the best attitude is to say "fuck it". really helpful.)
Heroes & Thieves: Fools Like Me (hard decision. lyrics are amazing and also really helpful.)
Rabbits On The Run: The Marching Line ("do you know a love like a bullet in the chest?" OMG. that's all i have to say.)
Unreleased: All Is Well (HARDEST decison. extremely beautiful melody)
be aware that this is for now. cuz it changes almost everyday haha.
-
Demo: All I Ask

Rinse: Superhero
Be Not Nobody: Ordinary Day

Demo: Faces
Rinse: Superhero
BNN: Sway
Harmonium: Half a week before the Winter

Rabbits: Marching Line
-
Rinse: All I Ask
BNN: A Thousand Miles (I used to dislike this song quite a lot, but I have some good memories from Senior year with this...)
Harmonium: Papa or Who's to Say (Who's to Say is the song that made me actually start listening to her. Papa actually made me want to play her songs on the piano).
H&T: Home
ROTR: Dear California, London, or The Marching Line (I like DC simply because it's catchy and fun to sing along to. My piano arrangement of it sucks though. I just have this infatuation with London and The Marching Line...)
-
This was extremely hard!! I can't just pick one favorite.. But I guess it's OK.
Unreleased: All Is Well
Demo: N/A
Rinse: All I Ask
Be Not Nobody: Wanted
Harmonium: The Wreckage
Heroes & Thieves: More Than This
Rabbits on the Run: The Marching Line (but since this album is so new this opinion might change, but my opinions change quite frequently anyways).
-
This should be challenging. :P
Demo: Burden or Wonder...hmm.
BNN: Twilight or Wanted...I can't decide (again).
Harmonium: Afterglow and Annie! Almost a tie there...but I guess in a matter of life or death I'd have to choose Afterglow. I also like Private Radio and San Francisco pretty well...hmmm.
Heroes & Thieves: Eek. Hmmm...it goes between Home, Heroes & Thieves, The One, Spring Street, and More Than This. Maybe even Nolita Fairytale. I'm so indecisive. :(
ROTR: The Marching Line, London, Tall Tales for Spring...Hear the Bells. Gah. I'm sorry I can't settle on anything!
Unreleased: Best Behavior, Ameriteen, or All is Well. Also, if these two songs she's put up for download count (even though they are technically released), DEFINITELY I've Loved You Since I Was 6. That one goes to my unbelievably long list of favorite songs ever, heheh. :P
...Sorry for being completely incapable of making a decision.
