Thanks to sarab for helping me out!
If I left something out, comment!
To V: make a Goodreads (http://goodreads.com) account. You will surely love it. :D

what about the Lord of the Rings trilogy? She always refers to hobbits ("do you guys really not know what hobbits are?" and when the audience member said LOTR she said "thank you") I'm sure she's the type to have read the books and not just seen the movies. I can't remember what the proceeding book is called, the one about Bilbo Baggins (I think, I've never read it), but that one should be on there too!
Field Guide to getting Lost by Rebecca solnit
Jack Kuerac diaries

The Hobbit! And I agree about those being on the list as well.

This is such a great idea, and also the autobiography of Allegra Kent, the dancer was mentioned.
The Larry David link doesn't seem to work for me either.

Which one are we starting off with?
-
AWESOME.
Could you please correct The Year of Magical Thinking? It says WYear and I got a huge peeve with typos. :D
Um there was that graphic novel... Habibi (one sec. Lemme Google it) Ok. It's by Craig Thomson.
It's technically a book.
So.
-
I guess we should add the Game of Thrones series by George R R Martin.

Damn it. Beat me to it.
Yes. Game of Thrones.
-
The series is called A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones is just the first book (and if you haven't read them, they are amazing and addictive and not happy at all)
-
Alleges Kent's autobiography was on Vanessa's Goodreads list, I believe.
-
What's the whole title of the Kent biography? I can't seem to find the link..
-
Straw Hat Theater by Mickey Klar Marks
she tweeted about this one.
And if you are reading this VANESSA, do you have anything to add ? :)
-
I haven't heard of the majority, but whenever everyone starts on the first book, I'll join in :)
-
Yeah, which one are we going to start first?
-
She just tweeted about this book: Ender's Game by Orsen Scott Card
Also, I was going back through her old tweets and saw she made reference to Legends of the Fall. It is a book by Jim Harrison but also a movie starring Brad Pitt so idk whether she was referencing the book or movie.
This is not a book but a poem (although the author does have a book of poems) but Black Book in Rainy Weather by Sylvia Plath.
-
I love how she tweeted the name of the book like it was a response to sarab's post at her.

I KNOW RIGHT?!?!! I JUST SAW THAT AND HAD TO COME HERE. THAT IS GREAT. THANKS VANESSA YOU'RE THE BEST!
-
Great list. I'm not so much here for Ender's Game, though, considering the author's numerous homophobic remarks. :-\
-
I'm currently read the first installment of LOTR and I'm such a slowpoke. I have so many things at hand now, but I really want to curl up with the book.
Anyway, I added a link for Brief History of Time. I found it and posted it before, but there it is again for those who are having a hard time to find a copy (like I did).
-
so with Vanessa's latest tweet, we can add Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews (the books and movie). That is book one of a five part series. I LOVE V.C. ANDREWS. Those books are my guilty pleasure (well, the old series, I have not picked up a new series in years.) My favorite series is the Ruby (Landry) series. I collect V.C. Andrews books! I go to the goodwill every month to see if they have one I don't have yet, and I scope garage sales every summer.
I tried to attach of photo of my book case but it's too big of a file to fit.

I realize that this thread is a book club of what Vanessa has read, however, I started reading a book today that I think she should read and since I'm 80% sure she does read these threads I am coming here to suggest it (rather than Facebook or twitter that I'm pretty sure she doesn't read).
So Vanessa if you're reading this, you should read this book. I've only read the first 3.5 chapters but I immediately thought of you and what you said on your livestream a few months back about nature:
The Earth Path (grounding your spirit in the rhythms of nature) by Starhawk
-
Didn't she talk about a book The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp??? I'm pretty sure.
-
Yeah she did. I finished reading it a few days ago, and whilst it's an interesting read for generating ideas and introducing new activities into your daily routine, it's not that 'compelling' as a complete read, but nice to dip in and out of if you're finding yourself a little thin on the ground for ideas.
-
some books can already be add to the list. the mytholgy ones, which i can't remember all the names and the ones she just tweeted.
she also said she's been reading psychedelic poetry, right? but she didn't mentioned any book.
-
actually does anyone know anything about psychedelic poetry? i can't seem to find a solid information about it.

maybe she was using psychedelic as a description rather than a category?

Native American Mythology - Hartley Burr Alexander
The World we used to Live in - (I can't see an author)

-
Thanks! This is very timely since I am making up my book list for 2013 :D
-
I've updated the list. There are also some links in there. A small treat ;)
