Haven't been here in awhile since Rabbits was released. I know you can't believe everything you read/hear, but I've been so out of the loop that I just can't not ask this... what's this I hear about Vanessa possibly recording a new album in the fall?! I read it on Tumblr and she just did that show with Gavin so maybe she said something? Not sure.

She mentioned it on her show. She's going back to England, bringing Skye along.

SO based on this, Vanessa will go back to England around September, but then, does that mean that ROTR will only have 2 singles? O.o! It seems like they only release a single per year :/ but then again, Bells hasnt been released :S

I don't think Bells would be the last. I get this feeling that Bride and Dear California would still be released as singles. Maybe as fillers while V's making the next record?
And I hope she'll put remakes of some of her old stuff.

I was hoping she would divulge some info as well, it would have been the perfect opportunity. Not only am I excited that she said she's going to record an album but that she's bringing Skye along too, I love him!

I honestly though I misheard her last night, and that she had said something about Skye recording his album in England or something?
When I visited the forums afterwards, I was like, "Wait... I was right? o_o"
I'm beyond excited, but yeah, with you on lack of mentioning HTB. There were a few slip-ups and nervous moments in the night, so she might've just forgotten.

Nessa's recording a new album? :o This is confirmed, right? I wonder which one of her albums it will similar to? I'd prefer the lyrical delivery of ROTR combined with the catchiness of H&T, minus the Irv Gotti over-production.

Since it's the first time in a long time we're actually aware of the fact that Vanessa's making another record before she's done recording it, wouldn't it be the right moment to ask her to FINALLY record and release "Best Behaviour" :) It's my all time favorite!

YES YES YES!!!! this has made my day! After every V album i'm always a little worried that she'll decide not to make another. I know it could take a long time to be completed and released, but i'm just glad it's happening. Keep the music comin'! :D

Sounds like she destroyed her writers block and is hitting the ground running! : ). It's just so hard to believe after having to wait 4 years between ROTR and H&T.
I want to hear her new "like a cinema" song SO BAD.

The most exciting thing about V is when shes writing new stuff and we start to listen to some snippets and songs live and stuff, its so exciting :D

the way I see it is that she probably has a few songs and or ideas and then when/if she goes into the studio she will write more (collaborations with skye, ari, that dude from doves I can't remember his name, patrick, or some new people). She wrote brdie, and get good while in england, and probably some others too, after booking the studio so, it stands to reason she may have a few "done" and then work more in studio. Now, with that said, she had a few songs written a few years ago for ROTR and it didn't come out right away, so just because she says she's going in the fall now, things could change, it's a long way off. So I have guarded excitement.

I feel feel really happy about Vanessa making another album , and not just from a fan perspective, but because she must be in a place where she feels really connected to whatever inspires her, like she said after Harmonium, and we all know that produces greatness.

I thought about this too last night. I guess that's why we've been getting a lot of Mansions On The Moon for the past days... Maybe the plan with Steve about the electro songs are being carried out?
Another thing that came to me is that maybe this is going to be a record of the songs that didn't make it to the cut for ROTR.
And man, she's hitting high notes beautifully now. The bridge of Get Good just sounds better.

I totally see where you're coming from, but I'm looking at it from a different perspective. While ROTR may have been, and still is probably is, her "dream record", she's branching out into different areas of music. Even after this new (probably electronic) album, she may hold Rabbits in the same regard she did after its creation. I think that this probably isn't a new "dream", but rather a creative experiment.
I feel it won't take the place of ROTR, but be something completely separate.

Yeah, I agree with this. I very much see her first three albums as a kind of trilogy. Stylistically, sonically, and even down to the album covers, they link together quite well and kind of showcase her journey from a girl into a woman. After the long hiatus, Rabbits was her rebirth record as a woman and a new artist. Although her distinguishable songwriting underpins all her work, Rabbits definitely sounded different than what had come before. This new album will be more the second record from "new Vanessa" and hopefully continue a long career into her 30's and beyond.

She said inspiration for her upcoming album comes both from listening to her college-aged brother’s trippy, euphoric music and reading classical mythology.
“I’m very inspired by Shamanism and right now, I’m kind of revisiting a lot of old mythological tales and kind of psychedelic poetry,” Carlton said.

Very exciting! I'm just so glad she seems so happy recently and wants to make more albums. Electronic music isn't hugely my thing but there is some great stuff. I do have faith in her that she can try her hand at different genres and experiment, and it will still be amazing.

I can see why some people might be worried. The term "dance-pop" brings to my mind a lot of the poor music saturating the charts over the past few years, but I'm pretty sure this isn't what V means. I'm confident this isn't a bid for commercial success, she has made it clear in the past that's not for her. Besides by the time this record comes out that trend in popular music may be dying out. Electronic music is a very sparse genre, and i'm sure she will be able to succefully marry elements from that with her own VC sound. She said it's a natural progression from rabbits, and at the end of the day, it's gonna be Vanessa songwriting. I'm imagining more dreamy synths rather than heavy dance beats.

I have to admit I'm a bit scared... I loved KT Tunstall's music until her electronic album that I really don't like. I'm not an electronic nor dance fan, let's wait and see ;) I LOVE everything Vanessa's done so far so I was kind of expecting that one day she'll do a record I MIGHT like a little less! Still excited.

That's what I'm hoping too, a kind of Patience/ Youth Lagoon approach. I actually doubt that Vanessa will go for really heavy beats, she's very much intune with instrumentals, rather than overwhelming percussion, as Rabbits showed us. But then again..she is known to surprise...

Im Really excited that it might be like those artist because she did tweet some youtube vids of thier amazing work! Maybe she got influenced by them?! she tweeted about washed out, blouse, junip, mansions on the moon, youth lagoon, caveman... it will obviously sound something like that (instead of rihanna, nicki minaj, britney... if that's what you're thinking because of the term "dance-pop")

i'm thinking more along the lines of dia frampton dance pop than lady gaga dance pop. check out dia frampton's red (http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Red/7316280 (http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Red/7316280)) for what i mean. and i think vanessa's album would be much more dreamy and serious. or bizarre. haha.
i guess my worry comes from a concern about how vanessa's killer melodic sensibility would fit in an electronic genre. vanessa is a unique pop artist in the way she churns out these incredibly memorable melody lines that are a few bars long but really characterize the majority of her music. the example the world knows is the "a thousand miles" piano line of course, but you know what song it is the second "white houses", "twilight", "carousel", "heroes & thieves", "fools like me," "more than this"... so much of her catalog... the moment it starts playing.

The fact that she said dance pop over "electronic" caught me by surprise. I don't know if Washed Out is something I would dance too. Moneymaker sounds like it would be more upbeat that whimsical. I guess we will have to see : )

Wow, I can't believe Vanessa is starting to create another album already! Like someone stated before, it must feel weird 'cause we're used to waiting for years. Anyway, I'm soo excited even if Vanessa's music is going to a new direction 'cause I have a lot of faith in her skills as a musician. I must say I'm not a big fan of electronic music in general but somehow I can't see Vanessa going completely there. I hope I'm right...

Really? Wow :D Awesome! Didn't someone say that her 5th would be last? I dunno I read that somewhere on here or something. Long as she doesn't go back to Gotti XD. It did take awhile for me to like ROTR and honestly with some of her songs I am not always sure of what she's talking about but I just love her XD
Maybe eventually we'll all get used to the album and like it. I'm sort of the same way, takes awhile for me to like something sometimes.
At least SOMEONE is working on making albums unlike some other singer that looks like Vanessa *cough* >.>
But yeah wow really she's going to work on the album now? I agree usually we wait a few years or so XD But hey might as well write when you're in the mood :P

^yeah. The V that I fell in love with was BNN through Heroes. Rabbits is completely different. While I do love some of her songs I'm accepting that she is changing and growing as an artist in a direction I may not really like. But that's okay! As long as she is happy.
