Liberman is coming out soon!
So far the track list reads as followed:

[UPDATE: Since Young Heart has been taken off the record. I'm wondering if the track order has changed... I can only assume Operator has taken Young Hearts place. Hopefully we will know soon!]

In Our Time is the Deer Tick duet song, although I think John does play the guitar as well on Matter of Time.
That track list looks pretty complete, unless she's changed the name of Patience at the last minute. I'm starting to want all the pre-album interviews, videos etc now! :)

It would not 100% surprise me if she pulls a Beyonce and just drops it all at once with little warning. I wouldn't be upset!
Also I wouldn't mind if we didn't get Patience... I would much rather have MoneyMaker or another based on that snippet

oh, I thought they were both theirs, I haven't listened to a matter of time yet, now i'm glad because it's another song I haven't heard yet. I want to hear this album with virgin ears, unlike with ROTR. the only songs I've heard are the ones I heard myself live. I haven't really listened to my recordings either, so they will all be fresh.

Me too! Didn't she tweet a pic of Victor with a camera strapped to him, with something like 'Liberman from a low ride perspective'? Maybe that could be something to do with a 'four elements' esque video. Or maybe I'm just being very very optimistic :P

i hope all the revealing of sequence leads up to the revealing of a release date! I also wonder how all that artwork will tie in together in the album pamphlet

I have no idea what theme of artwork she is going for, those pictures alongside the track names range from mountain paintings, vintage surfer photos, film screencaps, tarot cards - quite hard to narrow it down really!
If anything, I'd hedge my bets towards that mountain painting, a kind of warm, dreamy and colourful palette/tone inspired by maybe travels and memories (like the willow tree)

i don't mind if we don't get patience as well. i've never felt like that song could belong to an album anyway. i thought it was just a message like "be patient, please. i'm working on a new album" hahah.

Cannot wait for this to come out. Blue Pools sounds like an awesome song and seeing as Hear The Bells was my fave song from Rabbits and it was also #4, I have high hopes. I also hope TIE is on the album!!

Vanessa Carlton's new album, "Liberman," is like a walk in the woods, which should come as no surprise from someone who grew up in her own tree-lined fantasyland near Milford, Pa., and the Delaware River.
Carlton hasn't spent much time in Pike County since her song "A Thousand Miles" took off in 2002, so the now 33-year-old singer-songwriter is looking forward to her upcoming area mini-tour, which includes a stop at the Newton Theatre. And from her comments, received in a recent email, she still cares deeply for the natural environs where she spent her youth.
"I'm happy this is close to home. I've never been to the Newton Theatre. I think my parents are gonna come. For me growing up in Milford was awesome. My parents lived on a house on a hill with weeping willow trees. The property in and around Milford and near the Delaware in general is magic. We must protect it," she said.
Carlton, who has released a single, "I'll Wait for You," on iTunes in advance of her fifth album, due out soon, will perform at the Newton Theatre on Friday, June 13 at 8 p.m. The tour also includes stops at World Cafe Live in Wilmington, Del., June 12, Westhampton Beach PAC in Westhampton, N.Y., June 15 and the Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem, Pa., June 20.
Aside from nature, Carlton's interests in her youth were music and dance -- no surprise since her mother was a music teacher. At 14 she enrolled at the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center in New York City. But by the time she graduated, she somehow knew her future was in music.
"I was always in choir growing up even when I was dancing. My switch from dance to music was natural. Music was always first," said Carlton, who considers herself a songwriter, first and foremost.
Carlton was signed to A&M Records in 2001 after working the New York club circuit for a time. After a few false starts, A&M finally released her first album, "Be Not Nobody," when Ron Fair took over production of the album. "Be Not Nobody" debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart on the strength of the hit "A Thousand Miles," which had peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100. The song garnered Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). The album went on to sell more than two million copies worldwide and produce two more singles, "Ordinary Day" and "Pretty Baby."
Carlton began touring in support of her debut album, opening for the Goo Goo Dolls and Third Eye Blind, before headlining her own U.S. and European tours in 2002 and 2003.
Carlton created three more albums between 2004 and 2011. Her second, "Harmonium," produced by Steve Jenkins of Third Eye Blind, was more representative of Carlton's own musical vision than her first. But her noncomformist attitude created a rift with the record company and she parted ways with A&M in 2005. Her third album, "Heroes and Thieves," debuted at No. 44 and was generally well received, as the single "Hands On Me" reached Billboard's Top 10.
"Rabbits on the Run" (Razer & Tie, 2011) followed a lost and reclusive period for Carlton, during which she was also listening to and soaking up all forms of music. The result was a melodic, unpredictable, lilting and atmospheric set of songs, recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World studios in England with a team of collaborators led by producer Steve Osborne.
Back on track, Carlton has been working with Osborne again on her latest effort, and again they're changing the boundaries of her music.
"I wanted to go deeper into the atmospheric sounds that Steve Osborne and I created on ‘Rabbits on the Run.' This album, ‘Liberman,' is an album for headphones. The one that you listen to when you walk. It feels like a dream to me. And then at the end you wake up," Carlton said.
Carlton's quiet period between her third and fourth albums may have been due, in part, to burn-out -- working too hard and trying too hard to duplicate the success of "Be Not Nobody." Now older and wiser, she understands the difficulty of separating the art from the business, and of looking to the future with an open mind.
"Like most writers that get lucky with a song that everybody loves, you have no idea what's coming," Carlton said. "I treat all my songs the same and they all come to me in the same way. I love writing little instrumental riffs on the piano. I think that's what makes that song unique. The lyrics are basic. The structure is basic. The composing is me drawing on Aaron Copeland's ‘Rodeo'."
Carlton, who married Deer Tick singer John McCauley last December, doesn't know what's on her horizon -- more recordings and tours, scoring for motion pictures, dancing or acting are possibilities.
One thing she is sure of is that she will continue growing ... "like the trees" in Milford.

IT seems odd to publicise it so early, I seem to remember that all the Rabbits stuff was on the immediate lead up to the release...

It probably has to do with her label and promotion. I can not think of any other reason.

Super bummed about the delay :(. I't's probably not her choice, I don't see why she would want to sit on a finished album for a year. I'd be over it/bored and writing something new by the time it's out.

Well it's confirmed - "Liberman" will be released Summer 2015 cuz there's a baby on the way!

I can now reveal the reason as to why Liberman will not be released until next summer. See the picture below. No, those aren't a bunch of croissants. We're expecting a baby. It’s healthy and moving around like a champ. I’m bummed to delay the album because it's so special to me and the perfect combination of England and Tennessee. When I put the record on it feels like medicine. I hope it does the same for you…in due time!

Some Twitter account that was made today tweeted me of the leak. I have no clue how they found me unless they searched through tweets and found one i sent Vanessa weeks ago regarding Liberman. I hope the album isnt leaked to publicly and can remain amoung fans who will still buy the album like we did with Rabbits.

Hears da thing: my mate who works in audio mixing in australia knows dis 1 guy who knows this other canadian guy who haz contact with the osborne, and apprntly let him have a listen. so he recorded the whole thin and he has it since august. when i told im im a fan of nessa he sent to me this wav file which is what i uploaded to youtube. he also said the plan was to go for a digital only release on itunes in the summer, at firts, but now they decidd to release the digital and phisical copy altogether in the fall.da 1st single is willows, but they maight go with take it easy instead.

So glad they changed their minds about releasing the record only digitally. Vanessa's albums deserve a proper release. I still hope for a Grammy nomination and hopefully win someday soon.

I just cannot believe this! It makes me effing cry that I didn't run and downloaded the audio from the video :'(
It's so hard being a fan of Vanessa... We're pretty much always in the dark when it comes to info - except for casual cryptic messages which will only make sense when we no longer need them and furniture photos. We always have to wait so much for like 10 songs maximum and 2 video singles only.
Why don't people who have the chance to interview her never actually ask what her fans want to know? Like whatever happened to some songs we know exist but never got out, not even as bonus tracks? And will we ever listen to them? Why isn't there at least one live DVD out? Not a single full professional recording! There are so many smaller artists who've got more than 2 live projects while we have to be ok with bootlegs.
I'm sorry for all this, it's just that her work means so much to me and I get very emotional.
But I really can't help feeling that there are things she could do for us fans and she doesn't. It makes me sad. Many of you may have already been to several of her concerts, but truth is I haven't and the chances of me flying from Brazil to the USA are really thin. That's why an official DVD is so called for, to begin with.
Woah, I let out a lot of things. I simply don't have anyone to talk to about Vanessa.
On the other hand, it wouldn't be such a bad thing if Liberman widely leaked because it could make them want to release it sooner. Just look at what happened to Madonna, for example.
I think we deserve a little anticipated release as a gift for always having to wait so much.

The album is great i cant wait to buy vinyl, cd and digital. Vanessa owns my wallet whenever the time comes. I will say this though...it can't be too thrilling as an artist to release/ tour on material that she has played live and completed more than a year prior. Kind of wish this could be a digital release w/ a very limited physical release so she could write and record new stuff in 2015. She is going to be a new mom and i cant wait to see how that influences her songs.

I think no one here has the album or did even listen to it. Otherwise it would have been shared somehow I think. All we had was this Youtube-Video that was online one day and had sound for like an hour until the sound got cut out and a few comments below the vid that have been pretty random and without specific content about the songs. That's it.
Think we have to go on waiting :(

right???? well, I for one am glad I didn't get the temptation to download. I want to experience this album as purely new when it comes out, whenever that may be. I haven't even listened to any of my own recordings so that they will be fresh.

Oh my goodness. I havent checked this forum in forever. I feel bad the album leaked but for the lucky few who heard it, I hope it sounded fantastic. People need to relax...stop asking Kulp for the leak and stop asking in general. You will hear the album when its released. And for goodness sakes Vanessa is having a baby which is a HUGE deal. She is a person with a husband and a baby. She isnt just a musician, she has a life so give her time to enjoy being a mother and be patient for the music.

I think this is a new low for some people. It's just a sleezy move on some people's parts to release an artist's album without their permission before official announcements were made. I really wish people would respect V's privacy and wishes to release the album at a later date, I mean she went through a lot the past couple years, just give her time to enjoy her new family and life. It just really upsets me that people would go to lengths to spam the album all over the Internet and claim they will "buy" a lot of copies when it comes out. Everyone needs to have"patience," in due time she will release the album or she won't. As true fans we should stick by her side and wait it out.

Waiting for V's albums is always a test for my patience xD but this time around I'm really curious about the artwork; I've always liked that Vanessa still talkes the time to create meaningful sleeve jackets and CD art, unlike most of her contemporaries.

The more I think about this Instagram preview the more confused I am about it... Here are my thoughts:
It can't be any of the following songs cause she played six of them live already:

I also know for a fact that it's not Blue Pool or Ascension... So, what does that leave us with? I'm thinking it has to be River or
Nothing Where Something Used to Be. Or maybe she just looped a preview of Patience( but how could that be when she confirmed only 10 tracks at that wasn't one of them)? But if you pause the Instagram video you can see that it has ten tracks listed, then the one that is check marked is #11 and that's what she's playing in the background, or maybe I'm looking way too much into this. Who the heck knows, I'll be patiently waiting for the album release though.

I SCREAMED when I saw this :o. It actually took me a while to calm down before I could listen to the song lol. At first I was little taken aback because it sounds so different from the live version(of course it would, but still!), but wow, it's gorgeous. Haunting and beautiful. Reminds me of Hear the Bells a little. Especially how echo-y her voice sounds. The only thing I miss from the live version is the 'when you go, I will follow, when you go aaaaah I will follooooow'. It was my favourite part to sing along to lol.
I'm actually really glad that she won't be releasing it on Liberman(which they mention in this http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/music/a34461/exclusive-listen-to-vanessa-carlton-young-heart/ article - they call it a 'pre-single'), because it probably means we'll get a new song that we haven't heard yet!

the rabbits on the run year changed my life, really. following the whole process taught me a lot about music as a profession, how it works as job. besides that record obviously changed my experience with art forever. it changed the way i see art and the way it touches me. omg i love vanessa hahah

I have to agree with the vocals, but then I think it suits with the projects she's aiming for in Liberman. But if there's anything I miss in the vocals for the studio version, it's the haunting falsetto in the bridge.
But then I think the differences between the studio version and live performances are what make me look forward to listening V do the songs live and in studio.

That's not even a question! OF COURSE, there's gonna be a physical release!! Given how Vanessa likes physical stuff (hello ROTR vinyls!), there's definitely gonna be a CD (or maybe even another vinyl!) of Liberman.
In my case, no physical release = no buy. It's as simple as that.

Since we're a little off topic, I must admit I haven't listened to Vanessa in a while. I've got a lot of new music to listen to and I'm kinda waiting for stuff to start again with Liberman so I can get back into it!
I think it will make me appreciate it even more! (even though I've heard all the new songs live or through YouTube) And I'll definitely be around for the tour in the Fall! It gets me excited just to write about it haha! ;D

Wowowow. Blue Pool IS AMAZING. I don't even have the words! I must say that Blue Pool wasn't my first pick for a single, but the studio version totally won me over. It definitely blew my expectations out of the water!
And I'm so glad that we're getting an EP to tide us over until the album!

I think I may have a problem; I've probably listened to this song about 50 times so far today. It's just perfect! The piano at the beginning, the "kaleidoscope" ending, her voice, the lyrics. At first I thought it was too short but I actually like songs better that leave you wanting more instead of dragging on too long. Lieberman is going to rock.
Anyone else already picturing the music video in their head? I hope she's actually making one!

The piano intro is everything. It's so delicate and haunting and tantalizing. I can't wait to learn to play it.
The song itself - particularly the vocal melody - sounds like a sea shanty to me, like if KT Tunstall's "Shanty of the Whale" had an instrumental.
And the entire last minute sounds like an Enya interlude. Such a rich sound, with the wandering piano line and the soft humming and everything.
Altogether a really beautiful, peaceful, fascinating song.

Beautiful song. Magical, haunting, dreamy and beautiful are the words that come to mind to describe it. I feel the same kind of emotions I do when I listen to Hear the bells. But I might like this one even better! This album is gonna be amazing. Probably my favorite which seems kind of impossible given how much I love Rabbits and Harmonium (and also Heroes!).

In the YouTube video description of "Nothing Where Something Used To Be" on her official YouTube it reads:
" 'Nothing Where Something Used To Be' (Live Living Room Session) appears on the Blue Pool EP that will be released in North America on July 24th. The full length album (that will contain all the songs on the Blue Pool EP), Liberman, will be released in late October.
So this means whatever songs are on the EP will also be one the album. So we will have 2 album songs: "Blue Pool" and ____(not sure what the other song is).

Although I am super excited about the living room live cuts, I don't imagine them being very much different from the studio versions. She has such a simple stripped approach to recording ever since Rabbits. I am hoping for a few songs thrown in there that we don't know about yet just for the sake that we've pretty much heard 9/10 songs now and if Ascension is anything like In The End it's like just an outerlude pretty much. Regardless I can't wait to see her back on tour!

Jewel did "sweet and wild" then "sweet and mild" the later being all acoustic versions of the songs on the former. it was a 2 disc album.. I exclusively l listened to the "mild"

Haven't posted in ages! Glad to see there are still active nessaholics on the board! Take it Easy is AMAZING. Haven't listened to Operator yet but can't wait! Loving this new direction Vanessa is taking her music in!

I love Operator! So happy we finally have Moneymaker! It was well worth the wait and I agree that it sounds like early demo stuff! The lyrics "leave your house for a home" are my favorite but the whole song is brilliant lyrically.
The Take It Easy studio version was shocking after being so used to the live version! The light synth is breathtaking though and I love the gentle fade in and the little "hey" she does. Her voice is beautiful on this and I love the haunting backing vocals. Also the beat reminds me of Brandon Flowers' song "Jilted Lover and Broken Hearts." (still waiting for them to do a collab one day).
Anyway, how does she keep managing to get even better? I didn't think anything could top ROTR but I think Liberman will!

The EP is FANTASTIC. I do miss the live intro to Take it Easy, but both the live version and the studio version are gorgeous. Operator is AMAZING. I can't stop listening to it either!

I'm listening to the studio version of "Operator" for the first time, and I can actually imagine hearing this on the radio. It sounds like some of the stuff that's big today. Maybe the chorus could be a bit catchier. But making this a single would be a good idea, I think.

It's still there in the album version but very subdued, buried underneath it all. I wonder if John had something to do with this... Don't get me wrong, I like the guy but V mentioned that he did added some guitar on it and it's pretty prominent, you can't deny that.
I just really wish it sounded more like the live performances. Just piano, the tweaky sample loop and Skye's lovely contribution of course.

We will see.
But anyway I am still in love of her music. I really like how she has evolved since ATM.

You know, I totally felt the same when the EP came out. Take it Easy was probably(ah it's so hard to pick just ONE) my favourite out of all the live songs that Vanessa had played. take it easy is my favorite so far! god, the "take it easy" part on the first chorus is just right! i mean when i hear that im like "WTF, THANK YOU SO MUCH!" the orchestration is flawless, everything is very chill and low key. thats exactly how i want it. perfect, V!
what i love about the songs is that i feel like she wrote them with the studio version in mind. the living room version of Operator sounded weird to me at first, but when i heard the studio version it made much more sense. the songs are how they are meant to be i guess.
but i see what you guys mean. its different, not what we're used to. but i love the direction she's taking. it will grow on you guys, just give it time.

That's absolutely true. We have both versions now. I really really do hope that the 'live living room' version of Take It Easy has Skye's violin on it but I kinda doubt it. It will be just her and the piano like the other songs, which isn't a bad thing at all but I just LOVE the violin. Like the live version of Blue Pool is SO beautiful.

"Nothing Where Something Used To Be" just screams 'HIT' to me. It's beautiful and written in a way that can connect to the masses. "Matter of Time" is the same too, so I'm not surprised Vanessa has commented on that and picked it up.
Really looking forward to this record. As it stands, I didn't think she could top 'Rabbits on the Run' but I'm starting to think I could be wrong.

I agree.. rabbits began her departure or addition of guitar driving songs rather than piano, not just because of John.. I think that we are influenced by those around us when we are working on a project. I mean, listen to harmonium.. that album has Stephen Jenkins written alllllll over it. the drums arrangements are similar to 3eb songs. I think she had a very specific sound in mind for another album back when she was touring for rabbits and pre-john. she did HTB with steve Osborne and knew she wanted to create more with him, which she did. she also tweeted a lot of music she was listening to back then and it also is very reflective of the electronic sound and reverb that she's doing. so to point a finger to him for this change is unfair to him, but also unfair to vanessa. she is a 35 year old woman. she has a mind of her own and will do her own thing. she no longer bows down to record companies OR men OR women who try to tame her!
I personally like the echoy vocals because it accomplishes exactly. what. she. wanted. to. accomplish. a dreamy vibe that takes you out of your physical body and into an otherworldly realm where you can just explore and be trippy for a bit. sink into the songs and just let her voice and the reverb take you away! I am super excited for the vinyl of this because I can just imagine lighting some candles, incesnse, turning off the lights and just letting her take me away to that place of Technicolor dreams.
I too agree that take it easy live sounds like stars.. I totally get it. good analogy. that song has never been one of my favorites because of that little gadget she uses live. I like how in the studio version it gets lost in the guitar reverb, but still pokes through every once in a while, kind of like a cloudy nigh, when the stars play beak a poo with the clouds

I fully concur with everything you said. But I do have to add that I know very well that guitar driven songs aren't new endeavors of hers. I did say that Dear California is an exception but I didn't mention Get Good for a reason and that's because I don't like the guitar at all and the song in general never resonated with me. I do truly believe that John has influenced her work progress on this album in a way. I'm just not looking forward to A Matter of Time and possible other songs where her excellent piano skills take a backseat for more guitar driven ones. She and piano are intertwined and she mustn't stray too far from it.

i guess i'm the only person here that likes the guitar driven material just as much?? for me it adds a new and interesting dynamic.
personally i love get good and the live version of a matter of time. the guitar for get good sounds like a pretty dusty field and an abstract painting to me; and there is piano in it, it's just buried under the guitar.
me and my friend realized that young heart would've really taken off if they had recorded drums to it. my friend played along to it and it took on a whole new life.

So much this! I'm sure she's inspired by John, but to say anything on her record was someone else's doing at this point is unfair. It's weird, I remember not really feeling Get Good that much when she first debuted it on tour because there was no piano and now I'm obsessed with it. Listening to it literally feels like wrapping a blanket around yourself. Matter of Time is probably my least favorite of the new songs so I'm hoping the same thing happens when the studio version comes out.

It's inspired because of John but like I said before I have nothing against the guy BUT Vanessa radiates on her piano driven songs. That's why we became fans in the first place. So it's just awry to me that she's trying new things and venturing other paths. Stick to what you know V. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Haha. This reminds me of how scandalized some people felt when "Nolita Fairytale" came out and started not with a piano, but with percussion! Such a departure! :o
I'm at peace with the fact that Vanessa has entered a new era with her music. I don't think she'll ever return to the kinds of mainstream productions we were used to hearing from her before ROTR. I'll always kind of miss that (I mean, can you imagine "Bride" or "Fairweather Friend" with a "Heroes and Thieves"-style production? Unf.) but the new music is so lovely that I don't mind. At its core, I think the music is still largely the same: mostly piano-driven, thoughtful lyrics, catchy melody, and of course Vanessa's pretty voice.

You're certainly not alone. I LOVE "Get Good." It's one of my favorite songs on ROTR, and that's saying something since there are a lot of great songs on that album. It's a song I've really connected with. In fact, I think I'll listen to it right now 8)
And I agree about Young Heart. I rather like that song, too, though I'd love to hear it with a fuller production.

I freaking adore Get Good! I could listen to that song 100 times on a loop. The studio version as well as the live one.
I have to say that I'm not the biggest fan of A Matter of Time, but I'm excited to see what they've done with it in the studio :)

A Matter of time is one of my favourites this far!! And I also love Get Good and Dear California. I love Vanessa no matter what she does. I completely trust her vision. The lack of piano doesn't bother me at all, even though her piano riffs are incredible. I have to say though, that I sometimes miss the 'clarity' of her vocals the way it was pre-Rabbits (although this is probably my favorite record of hers).

I think the only songs I dislike from the compendium of Vanessa is Get Good and California, oh and that song she released earlier this year as an EP sampler. Young Heart or something. They are a different direction than I like in her music. I'm still super excited to see the new stuff!

love the demo tape and early demo stuff because to me, they are the most raw emotional songs. you can really feel it in her voice, you can feel the thick emotion.

I love it!! It's not as electronica-y as Operator or Take It Easy but really pretty! The lyric video was nice too, beautiful aesthetics; it's so her. If that was by any other artist I'd see it and think, "That's so Vanessa."

in comparison to the album version of take it easy, there is less detail. mostly just piano, the drum beat, and the violin.. at first I thought it was guitar then I remembered that live, Skye is plucking the violin, so I'm thinking that's what I'm hearing. the harmonizing is really the only "effect" used on the song that I can tell.

Awesome to have the studio version, but I gotta say, I prefer the live version with the extended violin intro. It had such a great Celtic/Irish feel to it that I thought worked magically.

I was very much meh about the live performances of Willows and didn't want it on the album but it translated so much better in the studio. It's exactly how I wanted it to sound. It grabs you. Weird since it isn't so different from the live version but it does capture your attention and you get all the feels.

Love the cover, love the fact that Vanessa's on it and I love the song. As of now it's my favourite studio version I've heard from that record. It's a shame that Young heart isn't on the record though, I was hoping it would at least be part of the living room session. me tooooooo!! I'm just partial to any violin really. she and skye have such chemistry together musically I just love watching them together and hearing his talent. I also played in a fiddle club growing up and that's why I loved this song so much live because it has that irish jig to it, which is mostly lost in translation to studio. It's still vanessa and I still love it. It's an extra version of a great song, how can you go wrong with that???
someone also mentioned that they wish we had more demo versions of the other songs but if you think about it.. all the live stuff she did before even recording the album can be considered demos and she had the whole record done before shopping around to labels.. just putting a positive spin on it!

I already find this album sounds 'bigger' than Rabbits. That album is so earthy. She completely delved herself into the simple recording process and keeping things minimalistic. The only studio version song we've received so far that sounds like something from Rabbits is Blue Pool. The production reminds me of Tall Tales for Spring for some reason. No, you can definitely tell they upped the ante for this record. A different sonic landscape. I would love a hybrid of Rabbits and Harmonium. The surprising production turnout of Take It Easy reminds me of when we first heard the album version of Hands On Me. All the little details and sound effects. Nothing Where Something Used To Be sounds perfect as is. It already sounds like a studio version! Very curious to hear the outcome. Looking forward to hearing the album and live bonus tracks soon. It'll probably be worth the one year delay.

I love the liberman video! did you notice it's directed by her brother? I also knew that was ascension right away because 1-it didn't sound like anything I've heard before, and i'm pretty sure I've heard at least snippets from all the songs except that one. and 2 - the chords ascend. it's super beautiful, and like "in the end" but in a more positive, uplifting way than it is. definitely ending on a brighter note than ROTR (even though the message of ITE is ultimately a positive one, the atmosphere it creates is not, and it's a morbid concept for people to grasp sometimes, but I digress)

That last tweet with the Florence + The Machine video(s) is very interesting. I wonder if it's a foreshadowing of what she intends to do.
I'll explain. I had this theory when I noted that Vanessa said that she had shot two videos.
So, F+M released the music video for two songs combined in one video itself. So both "Queen of Peace" and "Long & Lost" which are two separate songs on the HBHBHB album are back to back in that 9 minute video but like... the 'story' in the video continues.
I was wondering now that Vanessa has shot two videos if this means that she could be trying to do a similar thing? Maybe its a music video for two songs but in one video itself? Or was the second video she shot the trailer? Je ne sais pas! Was just hypothesizing since Vanessa has already praised F+M's last album and she's probably inspired?
On a side note F+M's videos for their last album HBHBHB are so far amazing! I've found all of them so poetic and metaphorical... like the visual art in them is really really amazing! It would be nice to see Vanessa take a page out of them!

Great review of the album! Really looking forward to hearing how trippy House of Seven Swords sounds in studio form.
I have to add again that it's a shame that the 'sound of stars' as someone described Take It Easy had to take a backseat in favor of John's guitar contribution. They really should have left well alone. That 'electronic sound' was/is so captivating live + the violin of course.

I love the liberman video! did you notice it's directed by her brother? I also knew that was ascension right away because 1-it didn't sound like anything I've heard before, and i'm pretty sure I've heard at least snippets from all the songs except that one. and 2 - the chords ascend. it's super beautiful, and like "in the end" but in a more positive, uplifting way than it is. definitely ending on a brighter note than ROTR (even though the message of ITE is ultimately a positive one, the atmosphere it creates is not, and it's a morbid concept for people to grasp sometimes, but I digress)
I wouldn't call "and I go and die" an uplifting ending to the song, but... we'll leave that for the song discussion thread :-P
I was surprised she just went ahead and just unveiled another song like that.
ha! well I only watched once and didn't catch that lyric. the music itself is more uplifting though. not as dark

Definitely agree that Carousel was the perfect single! It was such a brilliant intro into the new era and her new sound. And without it I probably would have never discovered Vanessa's music! Carousel definitely has a very special place in my heart.

I loved ROTR but personally don't think any of the songs would have been that successful as singles. Of course, it depends on how we define success! But in terms of radio play, the production of the songs just didn't fit with the popular music at the time. In 2011 people were more interested in upbeat dance-pop like Katy Perry's "Firework," P!nk's "Raise Your Glass," and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." If the album had been released a few years later, "Bride" or "Dear California" might have found a home on the radio next to Lorde's "Team," Christina Aguilera's "Say Something," and similar toned-down songs.
I'll be really interested to see how "Operator" does if that's the official single and gets sent to radio and a good MV. I don't follow American music that much anymore so I can't even guess. Hopefully she'll get on some late-night shows like she did during ROTR.

I just listened to it for the first time. The "far away" part sounded like what I figured it would based on the posts here, haha.
I don't really like the studio version, to be honest. The living room session is just soooo simple and pretty. I got too used to it haha. The instrumental is really cool towards the end though. I like the loud strums.

The studio version of Nothing Where Something Used To Be is such a disappointment. She rushes through it. And what is it with the lack of piano? The emotional impact of "do it, do it" is also completely lost. Thank god we have the living room version. It's so soothing and doesn't sound live it all.

I think it is very reflective to V's vision of the record--how it is a dreamy and dance-y music on one side and emotional on the other. Whereas the living room session version was about vulnerability, the studio version gives the impression of a seance-y meditation on heartbreak. I also like the layering of echoes in this version because it does take me into that seemingly out-of-the-body experience she aims to achieve.
Did anyone also got the impression that ironically, the studio version sounds sadder as opposed to the living room sessions version which sounds more hopeful because of the bright piano notes? I'm getting this feeling that there's an actual change in the chords between the live and the studio versions.

Yes I noticed that too. The chord progression makes it sound sadder. Less hopeful like you said. That's actually quite a nice touch. The studio version is beginning to grow on me, in particular the intro and outro but the chorus remains AWFUL. They were doing peyote while coming up with that. The voice effects, those strange sounds and the way it goes by so quickly (thankfully).

I totally agree! I love both versions of the songs that we have studio versions of now. But then again, I've never heard a V song that I didn't like. The studio version of NWSUTB is perfection. I don't even care that there is no piano. I like that she is experimenting with her sound.

We're at 10 days now; so, we don't have to wait much longer. A part of me wishes that I would have refrained from listening to any of the live recordings she has done.

imo this has potential HIT written all over it. She could make a decent comeback with Operator. If they can play Lorde on the radio then this can definitely move up the charts if they're smart enough to give it an actual add date and send it to radio.

It is hard to understand why she has never managed to be commercially successful again since BNN. White House, Who’s To Say, Nolita Fairytale, Hands On Me or even Carousel were radio-friendly songs.
To me her early years are a genuine burden for her career. Let me explain. Her problem is the targeted public. People have only kept in mind A Thousand Miles, the girl with the piano, a very mainstream, commercial and annoying song. So people who could however enjoy her new stuff are not really interested in her. Why should they listen to this Michelle Branch- Sara Bareilles- or Kate Voegele-like girl? She suffers from a lack of credibility even if her new songs are enjoyable.
And on the contrary the first fans don’t recognize themselves in her new stuff far from her hits and her first album.
She is just missing her public because she is trapped into an in-between situation.
The album tends out to be brilliant, subtle and well-thought. But I don’t think this album could put Vanessa back on the road to success. It is unfair because she deserves it. She deserves one Grammy per year for her huge talent !

Besides WH and WTS I think that Harmonium was too "dark" for the general public that listened to the radio at the time. I actually think Harmonium could be really successful if released now. I will always cherish Heroes and I cannot for the life of me not understand why Hands and The One and Fools Like Me didn't get more (if any) airplay. Maybe a generic Top 40 station wouldn't, but there are a ton of stations that would.

If they would have released Private Radio as the first single of off Harmonium as originally planned we wouldn't be where we are right now with her career. In other words, that song would have catched on and the whole era would have turned out different and could have been a success.
The singles should have gone like this;
1. Private Radio
2. White Houses (re-recording the 'blood' part for radio and music video)
3. Who's to Say!!
Or release Who's to Say as the second single and White Houses as third.
(4. A toss up between San Francisco and Afterglow as the final single.)

Here are some of my highlights :
- Operator / Moneymaker : my favorite. It's me or this song almost didn't make it before the album got delayed? It would have been a shame to not release it (Hello Best Behavior!).
- House Of Seven Swords : Nice track. Very haunting with the long outro.
- Nothing Where Something Used To Be : in my opinion, this song sounded like a filler when I listened to the live version. I was wrong, this song is superb. Kinda Coldplay-ish in some parts.
- Matter of Time : yeah, that's the filler for me. Not bad, but no piano so I will often skip it
- Unlock the Lock : this track sounds like it was made during the Harmonium era, but was then remastered for the Liberman vibe.
- River : loved the live version, kinda disappointed with the studio arrangement. I will wait for the studio live version.
- Ascension : Well... it's an outro song like In The End. I probably won't listen it too much.

Is it just me waiting for the official release date? Somehow I can't make myself listen to the song just yet, I've exercise a lot of self restraint in not listening to the majority of the live recordings, just so I could hopefully avoid falling in love with them and then being disappointed/feel differently about the studio versions.
The only official releases I've listened to are the songs on Blue Pool, and although it doesn't seem to have gotten glowing reviews as of yet, I'm most excited for A Matter of Time (possibly because I love John's music and can't wait to hear his contribution on the album)
Expect a full and gushing review in a few days from me! Until then, can't wait to hear more of your opinions, guys!!

I think Matter of Time isn't supposed to be a filler, but more of a transition. But then, after it was Unlock the Lock, which is more close sonically to the first half of the record (Take It Easy up to Nothing Where Something Used to Be). Actually, I believe that if Unlock the Lock was moved to the first half and Matter of Time, River, (House of Seven Swords), Ascension followed one another, the transition would have been smooth.
But then, I personally wish that You Heart made it to the record, as to provide a sort of accompanying piece to Matter of Time in the guitar-based songs.
But then, I love Liberman, every single track from it. It does take me to another world.
EDIT: And how I love River. The slow pacing at the beginning reminds of an idyllic day, where you walk beside the river, 8-bit video style. The grandness of the sound later on just reminds me of overflowing, until it ends with the quiet end, as if the river finally goes back to its normal level.

It's strange....there's tons of stuff that I liked better live (Take It Easy's old "starry" sound) or maybe just got used to..so I was kind of nervous to hear the studio versions of some of the other songs but I am impressed and very happy. Matter of Time has never been a favorite of mine but it's absolutely beautiful on the album. And HOUSE OF SEVEN SWORDS has me speechless. I guess it's easy to get so stuck on the youtube and live versions we've known for like 2 years now but this is a great set of songs from VC. I am very happy and can't wait for the CD on Friday.

Of course the album has to become available when I'm in a place where I'm almost never left alone and the wifi is the woooorrrrrssst. Being the dedicated Nessaholic that I am though, I didn't give up and I was finally able to listen to the album last night.
Liberman is a freaking masterpiece. I honestly can't decide if it tops Rabbits or not, but they're both pretty different so I'm not sure I can really compare my love for both of them. Vanessa definitely succeeded in creating the 'dream-like' sound that she was talking about. The album is so beautiful and peaceful and smooth and dreamy and oh-so lovely.
My thoughts on each song(sorry - I had to gush about this album SOMEWHERE):
Take it Easy: Although the live version will always have a super special place in my heart(and I still listen to it from time to time), the studio version has really grown on me and I adore it. A great choice for the first track.
Willows: Lovely.
House of Seven Swords: Wowowoow. Magic. Vanessa sounds like an angel on this track. Also, it's really interesting to see how much the sound has evolved from the demo(which I also adore - it's so trippy).
Operator: I'm so happy that this track ended up on the record! Absolutely in love with this song.
Blue Pool: Lush and dreamy. Love the piano on this one.
Nothing Where Something Used To Be: I know some people are unhappy with the studio version, but I'm in love with it.

I am going to do a lengthier review after it's official release, but I just wanted to say one thing in particular about this wonderful work known as Liberman.
I feel as if Liberman is all about ascending life by unlocking the lock to the river of true happiness that is always there waiting for us.

Of course the album has to become available when I'm in a place where I'm almost never left alone and the wifi is the woooorrrrrssst. Being the dedicated Nessaholic that I am though, I didn't give up and I was finally able to listen to the album last night.
Liberman is a freaking masterpiece. I honestly can't decide if it tops Rabbits or not, but they're both pretty different so I'm not sure I can really compare my love for both of them. Vanessa definitely succeeded in creating the 'dream-like' sound that she was talking about. The album is so beautiful and peaceful and smooth and dreamy and oh-so lovely.
My thoughts on each song(sorry - I had to gush about this album SOMEWHERE):
Take it Easy: Although the live version will always have a super special place in my heart(and I still listen to it from time to time), the studio version has really grown on me and I adore it. A great choice for the first track.
Willows: Lovely.
House of Seven Swords: Wowowoow. Magic. Vanessa sounds like an angel on this track. Also, it's really interesting to see how much the sound has evolved from the demo(which I also adore - it's so trippy).
Operator: I'm so happy that this track ended up on the record! Absolutely in love with this song.
Blue Pool: Lush and dreamy. Love the piano on this one.
Nothing Where Something Used To Be: I know some people are unhappy with the studio version, but I'm in love with it.

I, too, am hesitating whether or not I prefer Rabbits on the Run or Liberman. I do not think that it's possible to decide this because both albums are perfect and both have different purposes. I think that they work well together. Rabbits on the Run is about the fleeing time and the circular nature of life while Liberman is about finding different ways to Unlock the Lock to the River of true happiness that exists within us to the point of euphoric Ascension.

I'm so obsessed with this album. I believe this is the only VC album I've loved immediately after the first listen. What also stands out is that it seems to be V's first "true" album, in the sense that here we have a complete body of work, of distinctive cohesiveness. I feel an elevated sense of Vanessa's mastery of her craft, a sense of wonder at how she was able to create such a beautiful work of art out of 10 smaller works of art, all of which beg to be replayed multiple times and appear to have been perfected to their finest details.
I think this album is going to be incredibly successful and I'm so happy for V! She's arrived!

Yeah it'll be hard for me to decide between Rabbits and Liberman, as well. I loved almost all of the songs on ROTR, but I was disappointed with the minimalistic production of many of them (keeping in mind this was the follow up to Heroes & Thieves, back when her production was still very "pop" which is more my style). So that kind of hurt my view of ROTR, though again I loved the songs. Liberman has a better production, I believe, though there are more individual songs I'm kind of lukewarm about. But I've only listened to some of them once, so when the album comes out I'll really give it all a full listen and do a track-by-track review as well :)

what! matter of time and river are two of my favorites! willows is also grand. im surprised you don't like the intro to take it easy -- though i will say the first time i heard that song i was a bit disappointed about how the intro faded when vanessa's vocal started. ascension i also find fascinating because the chords she uses seem to allow for multiple melodic interpretations, and they play with my ears.
river, i think, is my current favorite. the song sounds like a river to me.. starting of flowing serenely, and then gaining rapids in the chorus, then mellowing out again and winding a bit...

Has anybody noticed how hard it is to find an "official" review of the album? I'm not sure if there is some intentional timing behind this, or if it's a red flag that this album is getting no critical attention. But usually new album reviews are posted in advance of the actual release date? Maybe I have not been keeping up with the music industry. But, for instance, Joanna Newsom is releasing an album on the 23rd as well, and yet it is easy to find 10 reviews for hers...
Why nothing for V? Seems suspicious.

She's a very indie release at this point and it's not like Billboard and Rollingstone have her on high priority to review. I'm sure BB will post a review on Friday. I was hoping for some TV appearances but that doesn't look like it's going to happen with her in Japan until the albums out and then a tour right after she gets back. Maybe early next year when she announces the other dates?

Very true, the review was really smart. I think you've really hit the nail on the head with your analysis here. It's definitely her most mature record. I think the improvements in her vocals really help here also. Her voice really sells the wisdom and one of the albums biggest strengths is how well she is able to use her voice as an instrument now.

For sure. Her voice really does "sell the wisdom" this time around. Before this album, I thought her voice was her biggest weakness. Now it seems like her biggest strength, like she's not leaning as much on her piano. And yet she still has some of her best piano work in this album

All the songs are listenable and some points in the production make you wanna close your eyes and just take in the moment.

I listened to Liberman walking to the laundromat with fall leaves falling and then a few hours later in the bath tub. It made me so happy. Commercial success aside I hope Vanessa knows how much this album means to at least one person.

The album is beautiful. Both of my copies arrived. I'm so glad the deluxe version exists. Songs like "River" and "Nothing Where Something Used To Be" are better suited to the piano and vocal format, IMO. Stunning.

Production, songwriting, Vanessa's voice... It's perfect. Thank you Vanessa for another masterpiece. The front picture of the booklet with Sid is beautiful! I also love the fact that she names Victor in her thank you list.

I'm going to write my quick thing before reading anyone else's stuff so if I repeat stuff, sorry!
First off when I opened my package I was brought to tears. I am so ecstatic and proud that Vanessa has shared such an intimate moment of motherhood with us. I had always wondered if she'd ever step up to the plate like some celebs (namely Alyssa Malano) and post a breastfeeding pic on instagram or twitter. I figured she would never, being she's so private in the first place and this can be a hot button issue (don't get me started on why it shouldn't be, that's a whole other thread for a whole different website). So when I opened my package to see her in such a gorgeous snapshot on the lyric book cover... I was very moved, and every time I think about it I am moved. As a mother, a nurse, and a lactation consultant I just couldn't be more proud to be a fan of hers.
On to the music!
I had actually given in and listened to the album stream the other night at work. we were having a craptastick night and I just needed it to calm me down, and it did. It brought me in to a zone where I could just relax and forget about all the stuff going on around me. Now that I've got the album it will be on repeat (after nap time of course).
House of Seven swords was not one of my favorites I had heard live, but this album version is fantastic. I'm so glad the production of unlock the lock is so minimal, that was my favorite live. operator is so good. it's done in a pop way but an alternative pop way. it actually reminds me a lot of the music she was listening to shortly after rabbits came out .. she posted songs that she liked almost daily back then and I downloaded a bunch of them. so this album feels to me almost like i'm listening to her play list. lyrics are inspiring, and build upon themselves as always. I had worried about all the lyrical repetitiveness in the songs I had heard live but it works in the studio versions. I have nothing technical to add but I am very impressed by this album, I like the way it's been done. I'm glad we have the live versions of most of the songs, but I think I'll be listening mostly to the studio versions! Each version of the song is like it's own song anyway.. related but not exactly the same. I think I remember someone saying that nothing where something used to be sounds more hopeful on the studio version, and more remorseful and sad for the live version, and I totally get that now that I've listened to the studio one. ok that's all I have to add!

I had a DHL notification a couple of days ago and both the regular & deluxe edition arrived today in my mailbox! One was sent through DHL and the other by FedEx. Go figure. Kudos to Dine Alone Records for upgrading shipping so overseas fans can also get it on release day. It's a small gesture but much appreciated!

Here's my (extremely long-winded) track-by-track review of "Liberman"!
Take it Easy – I think this song does a fantastic job of establishing a lot of the themes and concepts for the album: the dreamy atmosphere, instrumentation not necessarily led by piano, finding comfort in chaos, aging and dying (yes, I actually think a lot of this album has to do with getting older and becoming closer to death). I love how the song is an allusion to “The Last Unicorn” – I’ve never seen it before, but I love when she references the works of others, it makes her lyrics really rich. I still think the intro and outro are way too long. And how is that not a trumpet?? 8/10
Willows – A perfect song, as far as I’m concerned. I love how the instrumental and the lyrics give me these ‘hearty pioneer’ vibes: “Go build a cabin, find land and a tree… on your knees planting seeds” etc. I love how the instrumental rises and falls at all the right moments, and the piano and guitar complement one another so well on this track. The harmonies in the last chorus are phenomenal. I really, really like this song. 10/10
House of Seven Swords – I’m disappointed this song didn’t get a better instrumental. I mean, it barely has one. The bridge would have been a perfect place for the music to swell bigger than it does. I also wish the lyrics had more Tarot references, since that’s a really interesting concept for a song. But I like how she comes off as this older, worldly woman explaining how the world works to a younger listener. There are some very pretty harmonies, as well. 7/10
Operator – If you told me this song was an outtake from “Harmonium,” I’d believe you. It would fit perfectly alongside similarly earnest tracks like “Private Radio” and “Papa.” I didn’t love the living room session of this song when we got it with “Blue Pool EP,” but the studio version is quite good. I really like how it’s a sort of Mrs. Robinson-esque story about an older woman seducing a younger man. I definitely think this was the right choice for a single, though I thought the music video didn’t tell the story as well as it could have. 9/10
Blue Pool – Another darn-near-perfect song. I love when Vanessa writes in 3/4 time. I really dig the Old Hollywood feel of the song, and how it tells the story quite literally, which doesn’t work for every song. I don’t always like long outros, but “Blue Pool”s is so pretty that I don’t mind. I think this is the song I’m most looking forward to learning how to play on the piano. 10/10
Nothing Where Something Used to Be – As I’ve said before, I don’t like the studio version as much as I like the living room session. However, the “hoos” in the outro are really haunting, and I really like the punctuated strumming of the guitar. The lyrics denote a level of maturity and introspection towards a breakup that most songs don’t have, and this perfectly illustrates the “grownup” nature of the whole album. 8/10
Matter of Time – This song reminds me so much of “Get Good” for some reason. It’s probably the guitar and the melody of the verses. The whole song is very simply stated, but the minimalism works really well here (it did not in “House of Seven Swords”). Again, the harmonies are ace. 8/10
Unlock the Lock – I never liked the live performances of this song, but the studio version works on a whole other level. The harmonies of the chorus hit my ear just right, and the staccato strings (is that cello, or more guitar?) punctuate the beat well. The music of the bridge grows into the chorus in a way that “House of Seven Swords” should have. 8/10
River – I said a few days ago that I didn’t like this song, and I should be roundly punished for that because it’s become one of my favorites after a second listen. I think this song would have been right at home in “Rabbits on the Run,” perhaps more than any other song on this album. I can’t quite articulate what I like about this song. I like the sustained notes of the chorus, and the instrumental has some interesting things going on. 9/10
Ascension – I really like the piano chords, which remind me of “The Marching Line.” The whole song sounds like coming out of a dream, making it the perfect ending to this album. Though after all the references to aging, death, being lost and similarly morose topics throughout the album, I wonder if “Ascension” is instead about rising up to heaven and “waking up” from the mortal experience. Chilling to think about, but ultimately not a very good song in its own right. 6/10
In Conclusion – I ended up liking “Liberman” a lot more than I thought I would. In fact, it is likely my favorite album of hers, with the possible exception of “Heroes and Thieves.” I usually like a more typical pop production in the music I listen to (“Heroes” being a perfect example of that), so “Liberman” is very different from what I usually enjoy. But in standard Vanessa fashion, the lyrics are so beautiful, her voice so pitch-perfect, and the melodies so lovely that I don’t really miss the production except in a few of the songs that could have benefited from a stronger production. I really like some of the themes that run throughout the music, such as aging and finding solace in a chaotic world, and I love how so much of it is in second person, like she is singing to the listener or like we are a character in each story. I feel like there’s still a lot worth exploring here, and I’ve only just begun listening to the living room sessions, so I’ll look forward to enjoying “Liberman” for many months to come. 9/10

Great review! I totally agree that ROTR is only a departure from her past work in terms of the musical production - she's been remarkably consistent in terms of the actual songwriting.
And HAHAHA about Senator Lieberman - I'm from his state and I thought the same thing when I heard the album title for the first time.

yes I did notice that. also the artwork on her twitter page at one point, not sure if it still is or if you can only see it on computer view. I remember the colors thinking they were unlike ROTR error colors (dark)

I understand it that does not have the same weight in the USA as it does in Europe, but it is still a racial slur. I find it really odd. Like does she actually just not know?

Glad you brought this up, it's important. However, my guess is that she didn't know. Personally, I didn't know it was a slur until I read your comment and I Googled it. I mean, obviously I know about the oppression Romani people suffer in Europe, but in North America(as far as I know), the word 'gypsy' doesn't have the same negative connotation that it has in Europe... yet.

Yeah, I definitely don't think she meant harm by it. I won't hold it against her. I just hope other people won't catch on to it and make a stink. It is unfortunate that the word is forever immortalized in the studio recording though.
Live, she could easily replace it with some other word if/when she realizes the negative connotations. Maybe "nomad" or something, and it would convey the meaning (I think) she is getting at. The studio version is forever though, which is why I think it is weird no one said anything to her before it got released. I guess both of you that replied are right, and that a lot of people just don't know.

I did not know this. when I hear it I think: always moving, traveler, wordly, mysterious, beautiful, exotic. I didn't realize it was something derogatory, I'm sure she didn't either.
edit: I also think of someone who is more in tune with the earth and the healing/medicine it can provide. she has that running theme throughout the album of healers/shamans so I think to her, she means it along very positive lines. I guess ignorance (specifically my own) of an issue doesn't make it a non-issue. I myself have a positive reaction to the word but I am not European or of that descent that would be offended. Good to know

Regarding Liberman, I've been pretty much listening to it nonstop in my car and house since it came out. NWSUTB, HOSS, and TIE are my favorites! It really does feel like a dream and helps me when I'm feeling anxious.
I wonder if she'll ever play more stuff from H&T in future tours? Like Fools Like Me and My Best! Could you imagine those songs played now but re-imagined a bit with her new dreamy sound?

I've thought a bit about the order of the songs, and while they may sound better in a different sequence, the story progresses to ascension. Love, then loss, then love again. True love of another and for yourself.

That's usually the case, yes. Sometimes a song goes viral on its own and radio stations willingly play it of their own volition (like that "let me take a selfie" song), but for the most part the label has to make a concerted effort to get a song major airplay. Some labels actually pay a station to spin a song once per hour the day it comes out. Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and big stars like that have all benefited from pay-to-play.
That's the downside of being on an Indie label - they don't often have the money or the "manpower" to really push a song onto radio. I'm not sure how much time and energy Dine Alone is willing to spend on that, since it doesn't seem like commercial success if a priority of Vanessa's these days.

House of Seven Swords sounds just the way it should. I love the album version don't get me wrong but it sounds different and much better stripped down bare to just piano and strings. It's strange that she had so much difficulty with getting the rythm right. All the live performances 'clicked' before so how could that be a problem?

That is reeeeeeally interesting. Why did she leave his label? I don't remember. Was it just a business thing (i.e. poor sales) or did they have a fight or something? I loved the production on H&T so I would be so stoked to hear another album like that, though I can't imagine we'll ever get it.

i am intrigued by this too, but i will say that heroes and thieves is my least favorite produced album. the instrumentations seem overdone and the vocals not enough. then the drums and instruments sound very processed while the vocals don't and it feels off putting to me like that. also, some of the melodies just feel cheesy. i realize i'm the minority of fans who don't like the album. actually, my friend just interviewed V and she said that she wasn't a fan of the cover and felt like they did too much and rushed it.

minimalism does not equate being rushed and intricacy does not equate time thought out. though i'm not a fan of the liberman cover, i don't like the aesthetic of heroes and thieves at all.

this is nice. a long interview, we rarely get these it seems.. at least not on video. but I wonder if this was the beginnings of her not wanting to share so much on twitter.. they pulled a lot of quotes and stuff from twitter/instagram and she said something to the effect of "wow I share a lot"
I miss her on twitter :( but I totally get it. I see myself on my phone way too much. not as present in the current moment with my child. I definitely dont' want to be that family that's always on their phones and not talking to each other

I love hearing her talk about her music. And she was so adorable when she was talking about Sid! You can tell how happy she makes her.

According to V's newsletter, her Nashville show(December 17th) is going to be filmed. This is really exciting! I really hope the show will be available for purchase.
It's funny because with Taylor Swift's 1989 tour movie being released soon, I was thinking about how amazing it would be to have one of Vanessa's shows/tours filmed!

I'm still so bitter that H and T video never came to light! The Haunted Club tour was perfection and I remember being at that show. Can't wait to have a physical copy of this tour though!

it also looks like the Watson twins will be with her.. which is what she posted would be a dream.. them singing back up. I thought that some back up singers would be fantastic for her, then she posted that, and now they will be at her show, and recorded! I know that skye did some back up but I could barely hear him. I don't know if it's because I was front row so the speakers with the bass was right in my face so I couldn't hear him, his mic was turned way down, or it was supposed to be that way..

also she said they were recording an ep that night. we'll see how it goes. i want the whole show recording. i loved the soundscapes she and skye created. i loved the featured extra players for the set. it'd be cool if she could do this more often.

Sorry if this has been asked before and answered but did she thank us Nessaholics in the booklet this time around? Cause with Rabbits she forgot and there was an uproar and she felt guilty/embarrassed and quickly adressed us on Twitter.

And the version remix of nothing something used to be appears in the cd liberman label caroline somebody has the cd and knows about that

You mean on the european release?? I bought it recently, it has the logo from Caroline records on it but the tracklist doesn't add the remix. Must give it a listen to see if the remix replaced the original album version. Will get back to you!

Okay, just had a listen at the european version and it is absolutely the same. The sequencing and the songs are exactly like on the US version so sadly no "Nothing where something used to be" remix on it :(

Hi! Been awhile! :) I love her new album! :D I am still a pretty big fan since A Thousand Miles. It's n ice to have a singer/band you can follow for so long :)
There isn't any songs I DON'T like on the album or any songs I don't like of hers really. BRB, gonna read rest of this thread :)
