I love her! She is so brilliant. She's from New Zealand, but she lives in New York. I saw her last Wednesday at Arlene's Grocery. She just released her second album aptly entitled "Julia Darling" She been compared to Tori Amos. Check the website:

I'm so bummed, Julia had her last show at Arlene's this past week. She's going to be playing at FEZ under time cafe.

Heh. Julia is really good--she used to be on Windup Records and her debut album is really good. I was selling it cause I need $$ but I might keep it.
Anyway, she and I both did the Songwriters Circle back in January, which is where Vanessa was discovered. Peter Zizzo seemed to LOVE her material... so who knows.......
My favorite tracks on her new album are: Photograph, Blue, Lonely Generation, and Wake up (which is MUCH better live). Good stuff.

I honestly think Julia sounds better live than she does on her album. Photograph is my favorite, but I like By Your Side as well. They brought out the little piano when she sang Wake Up. It's one of my favorites too. Are you going to be playing any gigs in New York?

By Your Side is great too yes. When I saw her she was totally solo, just her and her guitar, so "Wake Up" was awesome that way.
I'm going to be in NYC this fall I hope :)

When I first listened to ATM (in 2001 I think) I went to see who vanessa was online - and the sonwriters circle came up - that's when i also saw info about john mayor & norah jones - norah blew me away back then - but since all the hype i have shyed away from her music...

found out this weekend that Julia is playing a show in atlanta on the 17th that my friend is running - he is picking her up from the airport and everything - and he said if they go out to dinner or somethng he is inviting me!
