LOL. The "concert footage" (it isn't really, but they try to make it "seem like it is, so it counts :wink:) video idea is overdone anyway, so that too is overkill. They could have done a lot better with the video.

I don't really have much interest in meeting her, but I do like to listen to her songs. I think she rocks and I love what she sings aboot. She's not bad looking at all, either! But I just can't give into my mom's notion that she's much better in every way than Vanessa. I don't see that.

I used to adore her but then she got more popular and it was like blah. Although I really do like tommorow. that is by far the best song on the album. Also I love things I'll never say. I love her more mellow songs. But honestly,the only video that was really good from her was Complicated due to the fact that it was totally orininal and fun to watch! Her other videos seemed as though she was copying other people. But she's alright even though I wouldn't admit that in person. haha

I just got to hear three of her gospel songs tonight, and I loved them! :) She has a beautiful voice and I'd been wanting to hear something of the sort from her ever since I heard where she had gotten her start singing in public. I also heard her cover of Bob Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door". Very good! And I'm critical about covers! :wink:

I like her somewhat. I really like her slow songs like tomorrow,i'm with you(before it was over played it was my favorite song),and thing's I'll never say. I wish she wasn't popular by the way she dresses. That made me upset because she is so talented but people like her because of the way she dresses. That upsets me! I don't know why...I'm just pissy like that.

Well, it sounds like a lot of you guys have problems with her attitude when you've met her personally. Sorry to hear about all that.
I can't say anything on that, since I've never met her and really don't know if I ever will.
So I can only go by what I do know, which is her music. It all-out ROCKS!! Especially "Mobile", "Tomorrow", and "Anything But Ordinary". I can't wait for the next album!!

her songs aren't bad.. i could say catchy. but it really makes me mad how she sells herself as a person who writes and plays her own songs but she barely plays guitar (at least performance wise) and all her songs are cowritten (or at least album wise) i use the word liar opposed to poser :roll: .. but i dont hate her..

The free acoustic performances will be announced in each city via radio and e-mail messages sent to fans pre-registered through the singer-songwriter's official Web site (http://www.avrillavigne.com) just 48 hours prior to her appearance.
The only confirmed stops are in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver; dates and details of those appearances have not been revealed.
Due May 25 via Arista, "Under My Skin" features production by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park) and Butch Walker, and includes a guest appearance by former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody. The first single, "Don't Tell Me," is due at U.S. radio in mid-March.
"Under My Skin" is the follow up to Lavigne's smash 2002 debut, "Let Go," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hits "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi." The set has sold 6 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Lavigne will be among the performers at Canada's 2004 Juno Awards. She is nominated for the Juno Fan Choice award, as well as in the music DVD of the year category for her release, "My World."

The CD is surprisingly good! And I heard her somewhere of her recently live, and she has gotten LOADS better! My favorite song is "Nobody's Home". But of course, that IS the song that she did with Ben Moody :D

I'm quite amazed with Avril now. Don't Tell Me is a great single; I'm listening to My Happy Ending on her website now. Nobody's Home is wonderful too--although I can imagine Amy Lee singing it very easily :)

I picked up Avril's Live DVD + BSide CD, Best Buy has it marked down from 22.99 to 11.99. Thats a damn good price for a DVD and a bonus CD to boot.
It wasnt marked as on sale, but is, so if you dont have it yet, it'd be a good time to grab it.

Yeh she isnt modest! She flashed a couple of radio announcers over here in an interview she did a few weeks ago.
He asked her to do it, she did, he wasnt looking so the only person who got a good look was the woman radio announcer LOL.

Nobody's Home will be going to radio in the US on October 25th. Keep your ears open for the new song and call in and thank your local DJ when they start playing it. As for the video, expect the video to make a big debut sometime in the next 18 days. Details on the video premiere and TRL details soon.
EDIT:
The TRL PREMIERE is scheduled for Wednesday, OCTOBER 20th, so tune in to MTV at 5PM to check that out.

I think everyone here is being pretty hard on her, she's a musician and they have all kinds of styles and tastes. I like this song, and I'm sure she will have many other songs that will appeal to everyone on the CD. I never really liked complicated, and I couldn't stand sk8er boi, but there were other songs I loved so much on the CD. Give her some credit, she's amazing. I think she kicks ass like The Donnas.

Girlfriend was recorded in German, Japanese, Mandarin (Chinese), Portuguese, Italian, French and Spanish too. She was gonna do a Hindu version but it was too hard for her to pronounce the words.
She practically butchered up every language she sang in. But I have to say the Mandarin one was pretty funny cuz she couldn't pronounce most of the words correctly. xD

This CD is really good. It's certainly Avril. Looking at the whole album together with her previous two albums., it seems very evolutionary rather than revolutionary. I haven't yet picked out favorites. Maybe tomorrow.
I have a question. A puzzle, even. At first, I had read that "Keep Holding On" would probably not be included on this album. Then I read that a version would appear, however it would be a completely different recording and/or mix from the 'Eragon' version. I get the disc today and "Keep Holding On" sounds identical to the version I'm familiar with. Were these all rumors, or did they give in to popular demand, or am I not hearing right? "Keep Holding On" was such a popular song that I read it's why the release of "Girlfriend" was delayed. Although it's been said repeatedly that "Girlfriend" is the official lead single from 'TBDT', since "KHO" is on this album, it means that in actual practice there were two lead singles from it.

I was over at the Avril Forum and a lot of the fans are pissed that she sounds/is really immature, and that the album is a huge disappointment.
I think its a great album, very fun and I love the lyrics. I think she has matured out of the tomboy phase, still a little on the tomboy side but not as much as she used to be. She's extremely beautiful now. Whereas before she was like...butchy yet pretty Avril if that makes sense. Now she is stunning, and so damn cute with her outfits. I love her style.

Yeah, it was in that area that's hard to classify as light brown or dark blonde, but yeah, Avril looks great now. I think I like it even better than the caramellish colour she had when she first hit the scene. I still think Kelly Clarkson is prettier with brown hair, though.

the lighter hair looks good and not porn star like on her because her natural hair is a dark blonde/light brown. You can tell she was born with blonde hair that darkened up as she got older, so lightened it still looks natural with her coloring, etc.
Her hair may have improved, but her music has taken a turn for the worse. Not that it was ever quality haha.

well Burbank is far. Its about an hour to two hours, because of traffic hour at that time. I didn't go, I went to Philippe's instead! I ditched Avril for a sandwhich....haha. Its been open since 1908 and its suppsed to be the best place in California.
And I couldn't find anyone, my friends/family were either busy working or doing something else. Its okay though, I would have rather been on the whole show. Not just for the musical performance.
There will be another contest, I've won like twice already and seen her a few times. So its okay! Thanks Tim.

I really like her latest single, it's so ballad-ish and piano driven, so unlike "Girlfriend" which I didn't quite like. It was catchy and really radio-friendly but it didn't click.
I'm hoping that she writes more songs like "When You're Gone", it's really quite amazing. :)

There are a few good ballad-type songs on the album. There are also a few where Avril seems to be acting silly and having fun, perhaps even too much for a studio album. The album is greatly assorted, but there's something there for everybody.

I really don't think her new album is THAT bad. Compared to Under My Skin, it sucks. I LOVED Under My Skin. The Best Damn Thing isn't too bad, though.

Staying on topic, "Let Go" is my favourite album of hers, followed by "The Best Damn Thing", "Under My Skin was alright but it just didn't appeal to me that much.
I hope she releases "The Best Damn Thing" as a single, my favourite song off the album. :)

I was going to reply to a previous Avril thread, but the red writing suggested I start a new topic. I know there are some Avril Fans out there, so I wanted to discuss!
I've listened to WTH only a few times and it's been stuck in my head for a day and half. It has a great melody and beat and is very catchy. With that said, I am very dissapointed in her. The lyrics do not promote ideas that I agree with! Especially with the context of her separation/divorce with Derek. It's a very selfish, self-centered song that does not send a very good message. I already pre ordered the CD, and I still think I would buy it if I hadn't in hopes that she may return to her roots! Maybe some of the other songs will not be so lyrically disagreeable to me.
I realize that she is young (she is only a year or so older than me) and she needs to sow her wild oats so to speak, but...it still doesn't sit well. Any thoughts?

I see your point. I guess to me though, it's not a very positive song because of the negativity she has towards a committed relationship and the me me me sentiment. It is very upbeat tempo (catchy) and "I want to have fun" kind of song. Could be empowering to someone who just got out of a relationship (and maybe someone who was cheated on, kind of a "get what you give" kind of thing..) So with that said..it doesn't make me that mad anymore. Thanks! I knew I just needed to hear some other opinions on it. It's still is most definately not my favorite Avril moment though.

oh yes, I noticed those product placements! Too obvious. You considered her country to start? I thought she was pretty pop from the get go, but more of pop rock than pop pop.

I'm an Avril fan, I do think her best album was Let Go, really some fantastic songs on that album,I'm with You, Tomorrow, Anything But Ordinary etc.. some great melodies.
Her second album was also very good. Not really sure about the new single, its not that catchy. Will be interested to see what the new album is like.

I will let you know, I already pre ordered it. It should arrive mid next month. When Let Go came out I was 16-17 and most of the songs pertained to my life at the time. Then with Under My Skin, she did it again! I was psyched whenThe Best Damn Thing, having not heard girlfriend that often because I don't listen to radio usually or watch music video channels. That album did nothing for me. There were only a few songs I listened to and I only remember them now because I have the booklet right here! Runaway, When You're Gone, Innocence, I don't have to Try (if I was in the right mood), Keep Holing on. With that said I can't remember the last time I listened to the album..
I didn't realize she said it was supposed to have a positive message... you really have to reach for that and put in a lot of circumstances and if's to make it that way (in my book). The video is not reassuring. It reminds me of V saying she was banned from VH1 for talking about sex (briefly, in one song about losing your innocence)...yet Avril is saying she wants to mess with a guys head and then mess around in his bed! She prances around half naked singing about infidelity being a positive thing! What's worse????

The album leaked online yesterday (a LQ release got leaked a few days ago). It's released in Japan yesterday. I also listened to the album and I have to say that it isn't the best damn thing she's put out. :'( I have heretofore enjoyed every one of her albums, but this one wasn't that great. I like "Everybody Hurts" and "Alice" but that's about it.
For some strange reason, whenever these stars are happy and content, they release the worst music. Duffy got a rugby-player boyfriend and released that terrible second album, too. I wish them the best, but misery seems to drive great music, so...maybe they should break a leg (literally) or something. ???

It was always supposed to be released march 8th in the US, and in Europe it will be on friday :) Yes the album leaked about a week ago and I've downloaded it since I will buy the record in both standard and deluxe versions and also buy copies to all my friends that have their birthday this month, which is quite a lot!
Craft, I don't know how you can prefer The best damn thing over Goodbye Lullaby. Everyone's their own taste in music I guess, and it's a good thing:)

i really like the album at all. it has like 14 songs on it, and i'm in love with 9 of them. actually i think i've learned to go on with avril through her changes, but i can definitly see some "let go" avril on it (specially on "darlin").
"darlin", "everybody hurts", "i love you" and "not enough" are probably my favorites on the album. :)

Can I just say that I'm SOOOOOO glad we don't have a repeat of WTH or anything from her last album on this. I am very impressed and happy with what she has done on this album. I don't have any favorites yet, but Darlin' would be a front runner. I have only listened to the album once so far (and with the bonus tracks, I'm not even done yet) so I may update this post sometime next week. So far, I am very happy with this sound. I was also surprised to see that Deryck produced all of the songs but one, I wonder if it was hard for them to work together :/

I didn't get into this cd as much as I hoped. It as catchy at first and I enjoyed it, but I noticed a lot of repetition that just didn't appeal to me. I still like it a lot better than the last one, but I don't find myself wanting to listen to it, as I WANT to listen to Vanessa and lately, Kate Voegele.

I'm glad you had a great time. what was the setlist? I did see her twice, the first time on her bonez tour (touring under my skin) which was awesome then later from The best damn thing, which wasn't very good :( All the back up dancers and singers, plus the mediocre songs were just disappointing. Plus it was raining (yes it was outside).

It's one of the one's I like off the album. However, as I said before, a lot of the songs have repetition, and this one repeats 'here' a lot.
