Poppy, strummy singer/songwriter John Mayer is putting aside acoustic love songs and confronting weightier subjects.

His album Heavier Things, due September 9, will be driven by electric guitars and will expand upon the lyrical introspection of his triple-platinum Room for Squares (2001).

The Grammy-winning artist recorded the 10-song album during five weeks at Avatar Studios in New York in April and May, then another month at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles in June. Jack Joseph Puig, who mixed six songs on Room for Squares, produced and mixed Heavier Things. Puig's list of credits include Sheryl Crow, No Doubt and Hole.

The album's first single will be "Bigger Than My Body." A video for the song was shot on June 29 by Nigel Dick (Britney Spears, Guns N' Roses). In the video, Mayer plays alone on a street corner, and a crowd of people ignores him as it passes in a great hurry to get to a giant stage. In their haste, the people fail to realize that the music emanating from the speakers onstage is coming from the street musician they paid no attention to. The clip will hit in August.

Other tracks on Heavier Things include "Daughters," "Come Back to Bed" and "Something's Missing," all of which Mayer has been playing in concert.

Mayer began a tour with the Counting Crows in Englewood, California, on July 7. Dates run through September 2 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It was so awsome because John and the guys in M5 were goofing around since it was the last stop on their tour... and John kissed Adam... THAT was hilarious. OMG *breathes* that was the best concert I've ever been to- even better than the VC concert I went to! *hides and waits for the first attack* To make things better, my friends and I were EXACT centerstage in the second row. I was freaking out so much the whole time because John and I made eye contact a lot, he waved to me, and winked at me! *tries to calm down* Okay, I think I'm done for now.

I could sit here and go on and on about how he's done alot for me and how's he's change my life. I've met some of the GREATEST people i ever could cause of him. I can't put into words just how much i not only love his music but just how i can relate to it and how he's just someone that is complety different then anything else. I've met John (not bragging) and he's so down to earth and not afraid to speak his mind!! i love that! I've been a fan since No Such Thing came out and i have not stop listening (and even obessing haha) over him since!!

Very true. I saw him with Maroon 5 in August, and he blew me away! I don't like his CD music very much, I mean, it's good, but not the greatest. But live is a whole different story. He was better than M5, and they were pretty damn awesome.

haha cool! I'm also a big fan! The first CD, my friend brought me from Canada when she was there lol then the 2nd one and the DVD, well someone from this board sent them to me <3 and then I got the live CD imported lol cuz it wasn't out here... Too bad he isn't big here at all so I don't know if I'll ever see him live. But oh well, I never thought I'd see Vanessa live soooo...

Thanks kiya! (again :oops: ) I've became a little bit scared of jm boards since the first board I started reading was mystupidmouth.com, hopefully you guys are a bit more relaxed on this forum... :wink:

And about the 'not writing his own music' thing, I was just in total shock yesterday... But when you think about it, YBIAW doesn't sound at all like the rest of Johns songs + it was written long after the rest of RFS was finished.... :? :)
Anyway, i'm not in total shock anymore, and the love for his(?) music is back again :wink:

It's the way that John fits his voice into his music, he's not exagerating and/or overloading his voice so much that you don't listen to the music anymore.. It's all about harmony :D

ok it depends on who you've heard say john is a snob, i've met him he is soooooooooooo nice and down to earth, if you meet him on his bad day then yeah he might be a little iffy, wouldnt you be, he has bad days too.

Heh that was really cool... I don't think I've heard the original song, but damn John mayer is so friggen talented. I'm a huge fan of his. Thanks for posting! I had no idea he had his own youtube.
