Man i am soooo excited!!!! I just received the release date for Vanessa Carlton's Harmonium and White Houses Single!!!! I'm a subscriber to cdjapan a very large japanese online cd store. Look in the email and you'll see the release date for japan. The Japanese release date should be the same as the US or later. The US release will NOT be later than the jap date for sure. I've found that cd japan always has correct release dates and are very reliable!

i have a feeling that japan might have the earliest vanessa release in the world.... not fair.. why's it always japan. I would love to import it, but I guess every other country's cost of living is lower than japan's. Japanese cd prices are terribly high!! My jap friend buys imports for a cheaper price while it's the other way around for people outside of japan.... it's so sad.. ok i seem to be going off the point. anyways.. i'll buy the US album not the jap one for sure.

Could it be that the single will be available in stores 15 days before the CD, but the song itself and the video will be playing in the general media earlier? Still, that does seem really odd...V should be giving us an update any day now...

the single will be released to radio and tv anytime soon... however the jap commercial cd single will be released 15 days before the album in japan (it is quite common to do that in Japan)... I'm thinking that it will be a bit different in the US market.

I think the Japanese market is a huge one in terms of sales. I don't have figures but I'm pretty sure about that.
Also Japanese buyers are known to be "super fans" (in general) and the industry seems to agree with that, that's why they always get special editions and bonus tracks.
Give it a try: take a look at a cd's tracklisting (pretty much any cd) and compare it with its Japanese version: there are 90% chances that it's gonna have at least 1 extra track (unreleased song and/or remix).
Another thing is: pre-orders are common there if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes it happens that an item can be out of stock even before it's released!!!

To sump up, I'm not surprised they always have the release dates for both the single and the album.

They are probably working off of an old tenative date that hasn't been updated yet to reflect the change. I've seen it happen a lot, especially with ordering stuff online.

Wow...I've been busy. With the help of Google, I've found two more interesting tidbits. In the "News" search thing, dated July 15, I found:

And a normal search for "Vanessa Carlton" +"Harmonium" revealed this from TeenVogue; apparently dated July 13 (bwahaha the infamous date :twisted: ):

True, this isn't really anything we haven't heard before (except for the clothing analogy), but when there's these two, plus (or rather, especially) the first one I posted above, in such close proximity, I think it's fair to say that A&M dropping her is definitely not the reason for the delay.

i'm a member of a music producing site and under the forum of Industry/Legal stuff i asked about how companies drop artists, and asked if they thought the pushed back dates of VC's stuff was a sign and here's what some people said back:
"Its probably just a disagreement in the label about the album, or it could be a timing disagreement. Label weenies want to maximize the appeal of the artists album in the same way that movies do their timing.
coming out during a critical time could spell bad sales. Waiting too long could cause bad sales. It could be ANYTHING of the sort.
The thing that we do know is...the people handling her project are NOT up to snuff right now for some reason. Maybe someone lost a position and the project was taken over by another dept head, and thus the confusion"
"most label try to find that window of opportunity to release and market their artist, so they will keep pushing back their release dates. most artist are nothing more than a quaterly tax write off any way. this could be another reason her dates keep jumping around."
so, maybe the company is having problems, or they're just trying to wait for the right moment to release it.

Well 'Europe' isn't always the same as the UK dates you know. I still highly doubt it too though.

Yeah, I noticed that too. the 18th is a monday, so I think it's just a typo..Who knows..They can move up the date all they want, but they better not push it back anymore!! :twisted:

I also noticed, where it says "Get Hooked, and make your friends Nessaholics" There is a picture of Vanessa's backside and she is standing over a harmonium. Her body looks great.

I dunno.....WH is really doing well in terms of adds, etc.
What is A&M thinking? It seems like WH will be forgotten, at least in the general public's mind, by November.

- it seems like A&M has officially cancelled the dvd edition for Harmonium in Japan,
- the regular (and now only) edition for the album is now scheduled for Oct 21st 2004 instead of Oct 13th 2004.

I'm totally confused now. The DVD is only with the import from Japan it seems and it's region 2. Maybe they're planning to do an American re-release with the DVD the way Norah did but that sucks and I'd probably just wait for the re-release in that case because I don't believe in paying twice if I don't have to. That seems like a counter-productive strategy or just down-right greedy. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah it does-a TON of artists release albums several weeks earlier in Japan than other countries. Its because Japan has a really savage black market unofficial cd...market. lol. Like worse than the US or any other country really. Most artists release in Japan a few weeks early especially if they are artists more vulnerable to be hurt by downloaded cds.

for example i pre-ordered a dvd like 3 months ago , which will be released in 4 days offically , and yesterday i got a notice that they had shipped my item

Because they don't always have the updated info on import items.
If you ordered a domestic (= US) dvd, it's usually shipped a few days before the official release so you can (or are supposed to) get it by the release date.
It's as simple as that ;)

Yeah, I know. But generally the single comes out to drive up demand for the album. Well, when the marketing people do their job correctly, anyway.
I'm kinda glad that Private Radio wasn't the single. WH is definitely more radio friendly.

The Barenaked Ladies' last album came in a CD/DVD set, featuring the regular album on the CD. On the DVD, there were videos as well as the whole album mixed in DVD-Audio 5.1 surround. One of the bonuses was an extra track(surround only).
If it is true that a pre-release or review copy got leaked, who knows how it could be different....or not?

- in the dvd+cd edition, the cd is enhanced and contains the video for White Houses (45mb, mpeg),
- in the regular edition (cd only), it also has an enhanced part that contains "Pleased To Meet You" (quicktime, 145 mb).
So I think the US release should be the same copy as the Japanese regular edition, enhanced-wise.

This is some good music. Sounds 10 times better from the cd. I don't know if you can put a factor on how many times better it is compared to the streams on VH1. It is something you need to hook up to a good stereo system and hear it hi-fi to get the best benefit from it.
Just amazing. I wonder what it sounds like on surround sound.

I bought the new CD on Friday night at Target (for $9.98 plus tax)... but it was quite a challenge to get it!
It was advertised in this week's flyer but in the store I went to, there was not a single Vanessa Carlton CD to be found anywhere on the shelves... so I asked the sales rep in the music department if they had any in stock. He went to take a look all over, then looked in his CD receiving manifest to find the inventory code... keyed it in his hand-held computer and said they had a bunch in the backroom.
After waiting for 10-15 minutes he walked out with a whole stack of "Harmonium" CDs and then put them on display. I guess if I never asked, days or even weeks might have gone by before they put it out for sale.
Obviously I was the first person in that particular Target location to buy the CD, lol! 8O

I ordered mine from the o-site and paid extra for the 3-day shipping. I got my t-shirt (which rocks) and cd the night before the album was released (Nov 8th). You should call musictoday and ask about your order (make sure you have your order # handy).

I ordered my copies of Harmonium from musictoday.com on October 16th;
before the T-Shirt offer was even available. I recieved confirmation e-mail
November 3rd that my order had been shipped, and that I could expect a
2-4 week wait for the CDs to arrive from the US. No sign of my CDs yet :cry:

I ordered 2 copies of Vanessa Calrton's latest CD Harmonium via her official site in October
and recieved an e-mail confirmation from musictoday.com Nov 03 that my order had been
processed and that I could expect delivery in 2-4 weeks. Its now over 45 days since your
confirmation email and I was becoming concerned about the whereabouts of the parcel -
any information you can provide to reassure me that my copies of Harmonium are delayed
by quarantine or customs here in Australia and that I can expect my parcel before Dec 25

I did speak to Australia Post staff today about the delay. I was at the office
from where the parcel will be delivered so they looked out back but nothing
had arrived as yet :o As of Monday most of those involved in distribution of
freight and customs & quarantine checking it out will start Xmas holidays :(

German Import for AU$32.99 :o Unfortunately the Broadbeach HMV staff
couldn't guarantee a transfer would arrive before Xmas & recommended

CD will be sent from Sydney by regular mail hopefully in time for Xmas 8)

I've just checked official site of universal music poland and they changed the date again. they wrote that the album will be out on may 2, 2005. I think the date was moved also in other european countries and the don't send cds to customers. I hate it....I want to buy harmonium.. ( screaming, crying...)
I think european nessaholisc should do sth is it possible to send to the label a list with our names as a protest of moving realisation all the time.

I was in hmv te other day and got rather excited because therewas a little label where Harmonium should have been.But when I asked they said it had been discontinued because it was old.
Obviously that was rubbish,so I phoned the record company,who told me it wasnt being released in the uk for legal reasons :(

Y'know what? Amazon is completely retarded. I was just on checking VC's wikipedia article and saw something about the UK release of Harmonium being in June on Amazon UK. I go look and the two versions they list have release dates of January 11, 2001 (wtf??) and an 'enhanced' CD as March 9, 2005.
PS The wikipedia article's funny: 'Harmonium debuted at number 33 on the Billboard album charts. Many blame the album and packaged single's failure on the lack of promotion from the record label and poor PR representation.
'Harmonium was supposed to have been released in the UK on February 7, 2005. Although only two stores stock it, website retailer Amazon now lists it as a June release. Such confusion is a testament to the lack of record label dedication.'
I put something on the talk page about neutrality but didn't bother to change it.

the very 1st version of harmonium is going to be realised in Poland, and (I think) in Europe on May 16. I found it on the official site of Universal Music Poland.
two days ago it was written that the album will be realised on May 2, so I think they wouldn't change it every forthnight.

the very 1st version of harmonium is going to be realised in Poland, and (I think) in Europe on May 16. I found it on the official site of Universal Music Poland.
two days ago it was written that the album will be realised on May 2, so I think they wouldn't change it every forthnight.
ok so all my hopes about harmonium being realised here collapsed. UniversalMusic Poland removed from their site the album's site. it happened after Vanessa post on the board.
i don't want to worry anyone but I'm quite sure (99%) that there'll be no harmonium in europe.

Hey In Australia here Harmonium hasnt been released (wow who would have thought! :roll: )
But for people living around Sydney go to Pitt Street HMV. They have copies of Harmonium imported for $29.99.
I got mine there the other day 8)

I can't help thinking you're being screwed, but I don't think you'd be able to import it for any less than that yourself once you add the postage and packing fees.

what i meant in my post was:
if you live in australia and dont want to buy things off the net, you dont have to. you can walk straight into Pitt St HMV where they have copies of harmonium on the shelf for $29.99 (Australian Dollars that is)
It would cost roughly about $35 to import it from amazon. So its cheaper and you dont have to use a credit card or buy it off the net

It's just that, I adjust it for the exchange rate, and it's so much higher than we pay for it here. It's unfair.

Yeh I know heaps of people that ARE looking for Harmonium - even though it hasnt been released/promoted or anything here.
imagine if it WAS released and promoted - imagine how much it would sell....oh wait the record label is A & M :roll:

Oh and btw $29 for a cd is not that bad for HMV here in Aus.
most cds that ARENT imported are about $25 so yeh its pretty good for an imported cd :)

Ok so next week I head off to Japan for a month and I was scanning the HMV Japan website looking for the harmonium japan edition to buy - and I found this:

It was re-released/issued this month and has another bonus track on it. Does anyone know what the extra track is?

It was re-released/issued this month and has another bonus track on it. Does anyone know what the extra track is?
I just checked this tracklisting and I can tell you this edition doesn't have any extra tracks. It contains the exact same songs that the previous Japanese release (#12 is The Wreckage and #13 is the enhanced part of the cd for Pleased To Meet You)

This one is the edition that comes with the DVD for Pleased To Meet You (keep in mind though that this dvd is region 2 so you'll need a dvd player that can play all zones). The Harmonium cd itself is the same as the regular edition. ;)

I noticed that there's a different version of White Houses. I was watching the video where she's practicing for the music video and towards the end you hear "What I gave is yours to keep". On the album she stays on one note for keep, but in that part of the video you hear that she goes down on "keep" Just some random info. Does anyone know where I can get a full version of this?
