General protocol is no for asking about MP3s, SHNs, etc. of live recordings.

*toses the red flag on the field*

Since when?  Not last time we had this conversation it wasn't.

You better double check that ruling, ref.

I was going with the interpretation that since that every thread I've seen on this board asking for Vanessa MP3's lately has been locked, I felt therefore there was no conclusive evidence for me to overturn the call. I discussed with another ref and my judgement was seconded. However, we can contact the commish and get her thoughts on the issue.

These are the threads I am refering to, BTW:

http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=6887

http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=6784

http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=6631

http://forums.nessaholics.com/viewtopic.php?t=6030

I probably should have been clearer in my interpretation, what I meant is that making a new thread to ask is a no no. If you want to PM members and ask them, that is fine. We'd never know, anyway.

to add to this little discussion since I'm sure Andrew will pipe in again soon, let me clarify... we do not support the leak of Harmonium or Be Not Nobody in any way.

Asking for the other stuff I point you to the FAQ:

Where can I get all the unreleased/rare Vanessa songs?
Ask around in PMs and AIM, dont make new threads. Eventually you'll find someone to send em to you.

What about "C'est La Vie", "Papa", and "She Floats" mp3s?
They'll be on "Harmonium," buy it!

I want "All I Ask", "Biride", and "Afterglow"!
I don't care. You can't have it. So, in the words of one of our lovely Admins "FUCK OFF".

Can I at least talk about it?
Sure, but if there is anyone asking for it, the thread will be immediately locked and the matter is not up for discussion.

Now especially notice that last bit there.

have a nice day.

I don't see anything wrong with politely pointing people to the shows that are posted on archive.org (http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?cat=Vanessa%20Carlton)
There are 3 shows from 2002 on there in lossless shorten format - good stuff

That isn't too bad of an idea, really. It is something we might want to think of incorporating into the FAQ at some point.

Title: Newbie Question

I don't want to add fuel to the fire in any way, I'm just curious as to why some rare songs are more readily available than others.  For example, it's pretty easy to get live versions of Papa or CLV, but then Birdie and All I Ask are so off limits. Copyright?  Because they were on the Rinse album?  Just wondering.

There's a couple variables...
a) Vanessa's personal views on piracy.
b) audio quality (good quality recordings show the artist in a better light than crappy recordings. We had good recordings of CLV & Papa vs Ameriteen which is barely audioable)
c) Live vs unreleased (she played CLV, Papa & She Floats on a major tour for everyone to hear, Birdie was not for all to hear nessisarily)

Right... but still we allow my thread with links to the MP3's for the demo tape stuff?

I don't understand the diff.

are we just saying "NO MORE ASKING FOR SONGS! IT GETS OLD!" or are we saying "NH.COM DOES NOT SUPPORT MP3 SHARING!"

I just want the stance to be clear.

it get's old.  If we have 12081412983 threads from people saying "Where can i d/l She Floats!!!111one!!!" it can get cluttered and annoying.  Live boots that are "OK'd" by management (like those posted on archive.org or links you are taking personal responsibility for (Demo Tape) and what kev222 did for the longest time I don't have an issue with.  We (nh.com) do not support the distribution of files/mp3s that can be *purchased*... i.e. BNN and Harmonium now.

-katia

p.s. i think for the most part, people are willing to share... it just gets irritating when someone registers, and posts about downloading something... if they would spend a day and get to know someone, it would be nice.  Maybe we should look at a better way of doing things... like a p2p style thread that says 'post here if you want something that isn't commonly available and if someone wants to help they'll contact you'

That's actually a really good idea, Katia.
Kev, has anyone thought about remastering any of the songs that are shotty quality, like you said Ameriteen?
