Title: The Wreckers
Post by: tricia on October 05, 2004, 07:37:19 am
Well hey...someone had to do it.

Might as well have been me. :D

The Wreckers is the band featuring Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp.  I have a feeling it will be very cool.

Discuss.

way to be positive and supportive, guys!

geez, you haven't even HEARD one song yet (and "good kind" live doesn't even count).

i bet people will go back to the new boards when they're up--even the people who are pissed off now. and i bet those same people are going to go to the shows and buy the record and maybe even like it.

i'd bet money...lots of it.... on it.

Just because I'm not looking forward to The Wreckers doesn't mean I'm not a Michelle Branch fan.
She's adding another person and straying away from her old musical style.
What if Vanessa and Stephan Jenkins dropped their own careers and started writing and performing country songs together???
Uh-huh.
And I haven't heard anything except The Good Kind, and regardless of if it counts I didn't like it that much... However, when this all goes down I might possibly love the whole album. I don't know yet. But as of right now, I'm not a Wreckers cheerleader.

Tricia I wasn't talking about you silly :P

Listen, of course you don't have to support everything that Michelle does. All I'm saying is that it'd be nice if people would give it a chance before they knock it or say they aren't looking forward to it.  There's a lot of negativity on other boards especially and I don't understand it.  If you are a supporter of someone, imho, you respect what they want to do with *their* career.  I know that Michelle was totally burnt out and unhappy.  The Wreckers idea has rejunvinated her and she is excited about music again.  There is no doubt in my mind that had this band not started she may have quit music completely for awhile...

And their songs are definitely not country... just in case anyone thinks that...
Title: The Wreckers
Post by: amberbeads on October 10, 2004, 09:28:31 am
Well you've also got to keep in mind that you've been priviledged enough to hear their stuff. Or at least hear elaborate descriptions of it.
And I have supported Michelle with all the things she's done; I never said anything about her marriage to Teddy, I thought it was awesome that she was on Maxim because she wanted to be, and she looked great. I love her music, I want her to be happy. But that doesn't mean I have to be looking forward to the Wreckers! And like I said before, maybe I WILL like their stuff. You say I can't base them on the Good Kind, but that happens to be all I've heard out of them.
Title: The Wreckers
Post by: jessicaweiser on October 10, 2004, 01:03:01 pm
Actually although I'm sure I will hear the record as soon as they're done w/ it, I haven't heard anything yet.  I just support both Jess and Michelle and know that if they're confident in what they're doing it and are having fun doing it, then I'm going to support it.  If the music sucks after I hear it, then I won't listen ;)

Well, my thing is, yes, I am a fan of Michelle and Jess, but OMG I can not STAND all of the asskissing.  It makes me want to hurl.

I hate to inform you, but everything celebrities do isn't great.  *puke*

I've already noticed a bit of moderator double standard type stuff going on too, but we'll see if they're just a bit slow at modding, or if it's really a double standard.

I also don't see the harm in a general forum, but I guess Michelle and Jess don't want one, so there won't be one.

Whatever...all I know is that my head starts hurting when I think about it.

Oh my Lord I totally agree, Tricia.
Not having a general topic section is going to send that board to hell.
And the whole, this is Michelle's board, she can put whatever sections she wants on it bullshit really makes me angry. People aren't going to want to always talk about her and the Wreckers... She's also going to have to learn that she will be criticized.
I've got 20 posts there and I already want to throw my computer across the room.

I don't care what they do, but yeah i think you have to put some kind of all topic thread, i mean its not going stop people from talking about Jessica or Michelle. What its going to do is make people spam on the Michelle and Jessica board with mindless crap that doesn't need to be there. Once again its going back to everyone fighting like they did with the MBMB

I don't mind the boards at all, but I'm not going to be there all that often cause I just am too busy and am usually on Jessica's mb anyway. A lot of people there annoy the shit out of me. And from what I understand Michelle and Jess did not want a general forum. If that's what they want, then I think people should respect that.  Yeah people will be unhappy, but... not much we can do. I think that the boards will be way more interesting in 3-4 months when there is a lot more to talk about.

Michelle Branch & Jessica Harp ''The Wreckers'' will perform I'm Feelin' you
with the legendary Carlos Santana this FRIDAY 10/28 on CBS Early Show !!
I'm Feelin you is the first song off All That I Am, which will be
in-stores November 1st.

Michelle was on one of those late night shows last night with Carlos. It was past my bedtime so I missed it. Was Jessica not there or did they just not use her name?

There is a video message from Jess and Michelle on Myspace.  Michelle says the first single is going to be "Leave the Pieces" and Jess confirms that the album is coming out in May.

They said the single is going to be released through country radio.  To me, "Leave the Pieces" is the most Michelle sounding song on the album (or at least that's what it sounded like live).  So I guess it makes sense that that's the first single.  It's probably the most marketable song, and not that "Leave the Pieces" is bad, because it's not, but I wouldn't have even rated it in the top half of the songs they played in Chicago.

I think they are really going to catch on and do well in the country market and this is going to be the perfect platform for Jess to jump off of into her first big label solo album.

The only thing I worry about is what will happen if the country audience gets wind of Michelle's political views for some reason.  They don't seem to react to kindly to liberals in their genre *cough*Dixie Chicks*cough*.

Even though their album has been done for a long time now, Maverick shelved it because they didn't want Michelle doing promo when she was pregnant.  Not because they were concerned for her health-wise, but because they didn't want that "image" of her during the promo.

Therefore, the only way you can hear them is by getting a hold of someone's bootleg from a short tour they did almost a year ago.

I have a copy of the show they did in Chicago (not the greatest fidelity, but not the worst either) that I got from TWMB, but that place is shut down now.

I'd be happy to share it with you, but I've never done that before and you'd have to explain how I would go about getting it to you.

How do you know it wasn't for concern for her health?  If she were to miscarriage because of the stress of promoting the album, that wouldn't be good for anyone. And given that there may be a genetic predisposition involved with premature births, it'd be best to error on the side of caution in Michelle's case. Michelle herself acknowledged that she couldn't fly during her third trimester.  She expressed unhappiness touring during March because of the discomfort the pregnancy caused.  So in light of all this, I'd like to know just when and how this album was supposed to be promoted?

I'm just going by what Michelle said.

Direct quote from Michelle on TWMB: "The record wasn't released because Maverick didn't want me promoting an album pregnant. they thought it would look bad to my young fans...bull.”

I guess she could be an outright lier but, knowing how greedy and cuthroat the music industry can be, I choose to believe her.

I agree with you that her health could and should have been a concern but, according to Michelle, this wasn't Maverick's main reasoning.

There is a difference between drawing your own conclusion and lying.  We don't know they actually said something like that to Michelle.  And even if they did, it doesn't mean they weren't concerned for her health as your statement implied. I'm not defending Maverick.  They've made mistakes, but I don't think they're that callous.

Michelle's pregnancy and the release of her next album are pretty much as important as it gets for her.  I would think she had plenty of dialogue with Maverick on these issues and wasn't simply drawing her own conclusion.  Granted, that's just speculation on my part, but it wouldn't make sense that she wouldn't be VERY involved in the communications regarding these topics.

You don't seem to be conceding the fact that she never said that they weren't concerned for her health.

All she was doing was venting in anger in that post and maybe getting some things off her chest.  I'm not sure how much of it you should treat as gospel.

This is all very true but, like I said, I'm cynical by nature.  Also, if record labels had any compassion for their artists as people instead of just viewing them as cash registers, the music industry would be completely different.

Your view on this is less biased and perhaps even more rational than mine but, as Vanessa would say, I've seen how the Vampires on these record labels eat the Unicorn artists, and that is what has led to my fairly radical cynicism regarding topics like this.

Sorry, but Jessica's album won't be out for a long time. She delayed recording and is concentrating on Wreckers material at the moment. On the message board at jessicaharp.net we have four new live tracks, though.

Also The Wreckers single "Leave the Peices" is up on iTunes as of today. Check it out!

From Rolling Stone:

>Over a late-night chili dog at a Grammy after-party in Los Angeles, singer-songwriter Michelle Branch told Rolling Stone about the Wreckers' forthcoming debut, Stand Still, Look Pretty, due in May. "It's a country record," she said of her album with fellow Wrecker Jessica Harp. The first single, "Leave the Pieces," will hit radio soon. "We just shot the video. It was really fun."
The duo will be hitting the road for a promotional tour this Sunday in Nashville -- with Branch and bassist Teddy Landau's six-month-old daughter, Owen Isabel, in tow. Said Branch, "We're doing it all by bus since we can't fly with [Owen]."

The twenty-two-year-old's last release was 2003's Hotel Paper, which peaked at Number Two on the chart.

As for the chili dog, which came from famed L.A. institution Pink's, Branch figured it was all or nothing. "I've been on a diet," she said, "and if I'm going for it, I gotta go for it."
>

If she wants to feel more thin without sacrificing good food she should come up here to Wisconsin.  She could eat ten chili dogs a day and she'd still be considered skinny compared to most of the girls up here!!

like most things you hear on the radio, too much done to the song (in terms of arrangements,style,etc...) to the point it looses its singer/songwriter rawness.do you know what I mean?

I LOVE "Rain" too!  My initial favorites are "Cigarettes," "Lay Me Down," & "Stand Still, Look Pretty."  I dunno, the whole thing is great!

And, although I'm still not a big fan of "Crazy People," "My Oh My" has totally won me over, despite the fact that it's SO country.  (I'm just not usually a country lover.)

Does anyone know what "Hard To Love You" is about?

Sometimes I really don't think I should be a blue state-er (but then again maybe I'm where I'm supposed to be.)  My, Oh My may be my favorite; I also like Stand Still, Look Pretty, and Crazy People.

I know it's SUPPOSED to be crossover but I wish some had crossed a little closer to country.  That said, I like it better than Michelle's solo stuff.

The Wreckers on The View - Yay!!

I always watch but kinda slept in today. I totally forgot they were going to be on. I woke up, turned on the tv. There was commercial on but when it came back on, they were introduced. They even spoke with them for a few. They talked about how they got their name, came about and how they promised if they ever made it would get boob jobs.

I think they hit a few bad notes but it was cool.

I guess I didn't explain that very well. This was way back when they first met like 6 years ago. They agreed that if one of them ever made it they would get boob jobs. They were both laughing and said they never followed through. Michelle said she had a baby so she didn't need it anymore and JH said, obviously she never did it.

in one of their last interviews, meech talks about how only jess and jess's parents were supportive of her and teddy  . her parents, her label, pretty much everybody was against their relationship.her parents didn't like the idea of her dating a musician. So I think the song is about that. i kind of looked at it as being about the music industry.. "took a mistake to really show me exactly what they were like" i kind of take that to mean that everything was fine, until she started doing things differently (maxim, teddy, country, the post she made on the message board) and then people didn't like that so much and turned on her. "why do i try to make them happy"..same thing.

i dunno. that was my take on it... i could just be crazy. and it would make sense if it was about teddy and her parents and stuff.

i kind of looked at it as being about the music industry..

When their songs are as vague as this and could be interpreted many different ways, I always assume it's about the music industry because their songs about boys and whatnot are much more straight forward.

I think HTLY is about Michelle's problems with her stereotypical fan that only knows her market image and flips out whenever she does something that doesn't fit that image along with being about the music industry...

...but, as Sammy pointed out, the lyrics are too vague to really know for sure.

Leave the pieces is still movin up on the Billboard charts!! its no.63 on the hot 100, was no.67 last week...and its no.16 on country singles..was no.20 last week.. it also has "AIRPOWER".. So i think the second single s gonna be late..and i hope it is Tennessee!!!

Nope, the next single is "My Oh My" and will not be out for a few months. I am pushing for "Tennessee" as the next one after that, but I'm not the one who gets to make those decisions. Ha!

Jess had a marathon chat session w/ her board members over at jessicaharp.net last night! If you aren't already a member there you should join! It's amazing that she took a few hours on her day off to chat on her boards! :)

Post by: laurelw on July 07, 2006, 08:34:48 am
The show last night was great!  Even though we had to drive to the middle of nowhere (Oroville, CA), it was well worth the drive.  Michelle and Jess sounded fantastic, and they sing so well together, that you have to watch them in person to see who is singing which lines of each song.  They were in great spirits, and seemed to have a blast on stage together.  They only sang for about an hour, but the hour was filled with great music sung by fabulous singers/songwriters.  After the show, the girls spent time on stage signing lots of autographs for everyone, and they were super sweet.  We can't wait to see them again, and we highly recommend that everyone go and catch one of The Wreckers' shows!!!! :D  :D

Michelle and Jess harmonize so beautifully together, I guess maybe you could compare them to the Dixie Chicks, but honestly, The Wreckers sound much better than the Dixie Chicks.  Go onto thewreckers.com, and you can hear several of their songs.  On their myspace, you can also see a video or two.  They are amazing together, and everyone should check them out!

Okay so I went to see The Wreckers last night at the Canyon Club and it was a really great show but there were some problems.

First of all when I get there I find out that I didn't have tickets waiting for me at will call because the credit card didn't go through yet my reservations for dinner was there. WTF? So I didn't have any hard tickets for the show and I collect my concert tickets.

Then they didn't have any merchandise for sale there so I couldn't buy a program or keychain which I also collect.

I eat dinner and the food was really good but then I see some girls that didn't eat there sitting in front of the stage of the dance floor and realize that if they stand I won't be able to see the show so I'm eating and worrying that I won't see the show. Luckily when I was through eating there was still a spot in the front of the stage slightly off center but right below where Michelle would be standing.

The actual show was awesome. They sang a 15 song set with a couple of new songs like Damn That Radio. Jessica sang a song by Lori McKenna called Drinking Problem for her solo and Michelle sang All You Wanted completely different from the single version. It was really good. They sounded great and didn't seem nervous like they do on their TV appearances. Michelle said she was glad to be in "her hood" and jokingly invited everyone there to a party at her house. Apparently she lives near Agoura Hills. I actually did get a setlist from the show so that was awesome. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet them or get a picture with them because I didn't know how they do that kind of thing at the venue and the security guy said you needed a special pass to go into the back.

The worst part of the night was that I thought I had gotten video from the show because they allowed digital cameras at the venue but when you have someone technologically challenged using the digital camera because you can't you end up with pictures instead of video and only 2 of the pictures turned out good.

All in all it was a good night and hopefully I'll get to see them again soon. Here are my pictures:

Thanks
