I was in high school when Green Day hit the national scene with their 'Liquid Dookie' album, but I had my head so far up my @$$ that I never noticed them until three albums later when 'Warning' was out.  It was probably "Minority" and its video that made me interested.  Now they're one of my favorite bands, right with the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and the White Stripes. 8)

Where can you get the Sessions@AOL EP? I heard some of the songs on aolmusic.com, but I'm pretty sure that they have more than just Holiday, Blvd of Broken Dreams, and Wake Me Up When September ends on the CD...correct me if I'm wrong.

I know this is a little late, but I'm SO happy that Green Day won two Grammys! (Best rock album and...something else). I my reaction to hearing about them winning was one of the most teenie-like moments in my life!

All my friends are obsessed with Green Day. My friend's band played like 10 Green Day songs at a party last night. I brought my Zen Micro, and when everyone would want to listen to a song, they only wanted to listen to Green Day.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow

hehehehe, yea I love that song.

WOW.
went to their concert in orlando on saturday, and it was easily the most amazing concert i've ever been to.  i've never seen so much energy on one stage in my entire life!  my chemical romance was pretty darn good, too.  but green day was just...incredible.  billie joe could make the audience do ANYTHING- including shut the hell up.  at one point, tre threw a drumstick and it hit him in the face .  mike came down the little runway extension on the stage, right by where my friends and i were, for his bass solo in longview.  also, billie repeatedly came down there and i got to touch his hand twice.  *HUGE TEENIE MOMENT!!!* if any of you ever get the chance to see green day live, do NOT pass it up!

I don't want to soud like a bad person  :(   but I feel like I'm the only person who does not like Green Day, I just can't stand them!!!  And I don't know why, probably because I am a big right-wing conservative, but that is beyond the fact the pretty much stuck-it to the Bush administration, and that seems to me Un-American, and I can't stand people who are un-American....I don't know, I just feel like they try to hard, but that is just me, please don't give me crap about it!

I totally get where you're coming from, and yes, Green Day are pretty outspoken- not only about politics, but about just about everything under the sun.  But American Idiot, the album, is really their only political statement musically.  And the album really isn't that political, only a few songs- the album is made to be a "punk rock opera" and follows the life of the main character, Jesus of Suburbia. It's set in the climate of the Bush Jr. era and such to give their political viewpoints, but also to show that it’s like modern-day life for a teenager- ie modern day relationships, drug problems, etc; then Green Day sort of take shots at Bush. But they're definitely not anti-American, just anti-Bush and anti-war.  I hope i didn't come across as like snooty or something saying that...and I totally respect where you're coming from, no one should give you crap about it.
Title: Thank you

I read in a back issue of Rolling Stone that they've been releasing songs on myspace under a different name or something? And that they were going to release their next album under that pseudonym? idk...it was an old issue of Rolling Stone and I haven't read anything else about them (not really that into Green Day anymore..) so I don't know how true that is anymore :S

But I'd definitely look forward to any new music by Green Day :D

I just saw this thread, so I thought I'd respond.  Their new group is Foxboro Hot Tubs, and it's Green Day plus some other musicians.  The cd is awesome, and it came out in December of 2007 as a download.  They did a tiny club mini tour in May 2008, and it was amazing!

Green Day Album Out May 5

01/29/09 4:45pm

by Kate Harper (CHARTattack)

Green Day's power pop-influenced new album will be released May 5, according to Warner Music Canada.

The as-yet-untitled record is the long-awaited follow-up to 2004's American Idiot. Green Day have been working on it with producer Butch Vig (Against Me!, Nirvana) at the same Hollywood studio where they recorded American Idiot.

Lest you think Green Day haven't recorded anything since 2004, they released Stop Drop And Roll!!! under the Foxboro Hot Tubs moniker last year.

Green Day's Bullet In A Bible concert CD/DVD package appears to be getting a Blu-ray reissue on April 7.

http://www.chartattack.com/news/65578/gree...album-out-may-5

The rumors are flowing.

This was posted on a fan sight. Power-pop??? I hope they mean punk, or at least rock or both... Well see maybe becuase there is rumored piano songs (1 or 2) they say pop.

i wouldn't put them with power pop necessarily.. actually, that's a good question.. back in the days of insomniac, i'd probably called them punk rock (not punk.. punk rock. there's a difference. imo). these days... it's rock, but it's also pretty pop.. rock pop if you will. (not pop rock).

anyway.. i think i heard they're putting out a new album sometime in the near future? i don't really know.

but, they did release an album under a different band name: Foxboro Hot Tubs. it's kind of like punk with a mix of like.. i don't know.. 50's rock and roll or something? i don't know. interesting stuff though.

don't ask me why i know all that...

I dont know why they said power-pop either! I like the punk and punk rock (The were never the Ramones or anything but i love Green Day anyway)! Anyways I think they say that becuase Billie Joe plays piano and worte 1 or two songs that include piano for this alblum, but i think they are going more back to their roots. ANYWAY this is just a rumored release date, Green Day themselevs didnt say they were turing into the Jonas Brothers.

yeah, I have the leaked version...it's apparently a demo, and the album version will sound different. I really like what I'm hearing from the demo, and wonder how they'll change it up for the album. According to this review I read (forget which magazine) 21st Century Breakdown is a massively epic song, musically...comparable to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

VH1 is leaking the whole thing a week early on their website. The alblum comes out May 15 so i believe that next friday. and IN my opinion their first single know your enemy isnt the best, but I was listening to the live stuff on youtube and its alot better, so I have high hopes of the second single. know your enemy is good though, just a bit repeatitive.

The new alblum was dissapointing yes, but lyrically most of it was good I just dont like the arrangements much. However I always have all the old stuff.

OH BY THE WAY Bands that suck dont still have number one hits even after 20 something years of being a band, and bands that suck dont last longer then the beatles who split up after 10 years to pursue solo careers then lenon was shot.

Well you have the right to not like them, BUT I doubt you have even heard of 1039 smoothed out slappy hours or Kerplunk or dookie or insomniac or nimrod which all are wonderfull alblums.

Its kind of like someone whos heard A Thousand Miles but hasnt hears of Harmonium saying Vanessa makes horrible pop shit, which isnt true.

So go ahead and dislike Green Day but they make wonderfull music. Its more mature now but its still good.

Post by: Martin. on June 06, 2009, 10:27:16 am
um, yeah i actually have most of their material (particularly their earlier stuff). i just think they've gotten progressively worse - especially in the last few years.
Title: Re: Green Day
Post by: _all_is_well_ on June 07, 2009, 05:38:41 pm
Hmm somehow I doubt someone who dislikes the band really has heard their earlier stuff , unless you were old enough when Dookie came out to hear it and listen to their older stuff (which you would only do if you liked them!) or you lived in Berkeley California and were listening to their EPs before Dookie (same here).
What youve heard (or the early stuff you referring to is) Basket Case & Longview Right? Ya and thats probably about it.
Have you ever heard Going to Pasalaqua, At the Library, Christie Road, 2000 Light Years Away, or Andriod? No, or have you? And If you have your most likely one of those people who boycotted Green Day because of American Idiot. Maybe your a republican and dont like the politics of Green Day? What I  know is if you didnt at one point like Green Day you would not have heard 39 smooth or kerplunk and probably you havent heard anything but singles from dookie and maybe youve heard walking contradiction. (which is a very good song)
I know not everyone like the same thing and everyone has different tastes---- BUT you must have liked them at some point to have heard MOST of their older stuff... Becuase why would you listen to MOST of a bands songs if you dont like the band?
So what about them dont you like, I mean you really seem to hate them...
All im saying is you hate them with a passion and have listened to most of their songs? --Doubt it.

Title: Re: Green Day

do not patronize me. I used to be a huge fan mannny years ago and have heard almost all of their catalogue.

their recent stuff is shit, therefore they suck. it's my opinion. deal with it.

I never said you said that. BUT I did make my point, you like"d'' their old stuff (their best stuff). You probably still do but you just cant get over the fact that they've changed.
I dont really like their new alblum either, I was hopeing I would becuase I did like AI, but that means they suck? --no.
I already told you believe what you want, but i like arguements, i dont expcet to change you opinion.
But they dont suck, and you know it, you were a fan. so "get over it'

If you dont get what im saying: imagine that Vanessa starts rapping and someone says "she sucks", well no she doesnt, its just that person doesnt like her rap. (i know that would never happen im just makeing an example).

"they suck" - present tense. in the last five+ years, their stuff has disapponted me over & over again. they can never be as good as they once were, sadly.

I don't even think they're as good musicians as they once were either. it's all simple, repetative shit now.

*Sigh*

It's my opinion. They're no longer good. So in other words; they suck. That's all. Sorry if offends you or whatever, but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

What's with all the Green Day hate?

I enjoy their latest album. True, I don't like it as much as their other stuff, but I still think it's musically and lyrically sound, and not "OMG TERRIBLE!!!1"

to each his (or her) own, I guess. *shrugs*
