Title: Anna Nalick
Post by: eclv on December 30, 2004, 03:43:26 pm
So I was listening to Radio@Netscape yesterday and this song came on. The voice sounded kinda familiar but not really. I looked and the song was "Breathe (2am)" by Anna Nalick (http://www.AnnaNalick.com) She sounds kinda like Jewel and someone else but I can't place it. It is kinda countryish to me as well. But she is so good!!

I checked out her site (http://www.annanalick.com) and found out she is 20 from So Cal. Her album is Wreck of the Day but sadly isn't due out until 03/08/05. update, it's now 04/19/05

You can hear the song by going here (http://www.annanalick.com) scroll to where it says listen to "Breathe (2am)" click on which media type you use.

I wish there was more music to listen to. I did listen to some of the clips from the Sony Music Store (http://www.sonymusicstore.com/store/catalog/MerchandiseDetails.jsp?selectionId=90891&sms=ast-annanalick) but they are too short.

Anyhow, check it out, tell me what you think.

She sounds like if Jewel and Alanis Morrisette thrown in  blender. The song is really good and very catchy, but highly unoriginal, in my opinion. Nobody can touch teh Jewel.

I checked some of the stuff on the site out, it sounds pretty good. I'll have to keep the name in mind for when the album release date comes closer.

Thanks guys for checking it out. I thought it was a good song too. I heard two other songs on her my space account (http://www.myspace.com/annanalick). I still can't think of who else she sounds like. On her my space account it says sounds like Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, and Jewel.

She said her influences are; John Mayer, Blind Melon, Tori Amos, U2, Jeff Buckley, Sarah McLachlan, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Okay, I think she sounds like Jessica Andrews a bit too.

it sounds like Sarah McLachlan, Chantal, Alanis, and Avril, and Fiona Apple all mixed into one at times. But mostly the Sarah and the lead singer of the Cranberries, Fiona Apple and Alanis and Avril together come out the most. That's what Let meant by the country sound, I think. I just watched the new dvd of Sarah's a few days ago(that was a Christmas gift) and some vocals and mostly the harmonies of hers sound a lot like this. "Consider This" does sound like Jewel bigtime though.

Well I didn't get to go to the LA show I wanted to but hopefully there will be more shows soon.

She's good.  Her voice is nice and strong--I like that.

When will people stop writing songs called "Breathe," though?  Geez.  It's so annoying!

She has a cute voice, it makes me smile. I don't like the part where she says "life's like an hour glass glued to the table" though. It's kinda silly IMO... and the "breathe" reminds me of that Faith Hill song, but other than that I like the song...

Wow this girl is awesome!
I love her cd, its the style i like  :D

I think she has a sort of early Jewlel & Bonnie McKee and her voice kind of reminds me of gwen Stefani just a little tiny bit in some parts of her songs.

I am so happy that people are finally hearing the song and loving it as much as me. I absolutely love the CD!! That's cool you did a review Brian.

It was really cool to see her on Regis and Kelly yesterday. She looked lovely, sounded great and totally carried herself well in the interview. I was glad he didn't call her Jennifer, haha.

Looking for news about Vanessa I came across the review below. Unlike the reviewer I quite like the album, especially the second half.

Anna Nalick, "Wreck of the Day" (Columbia) *** - Anna Nalick is one of the artists born and bred to record songs for television soundtracks such as "One Tree Hill," a feat this 20-year-old already has accomplished.

Her sound has a pop sensibility and should help her fit in comfortably with the rest of the female, generic heart-on-their-sleeves artists such as Vanessa Carlton and Avril Lavigne. Nalick's songs are confessional and from the heart, but what the heck is she trying to say? It's tough to decipher because generality tends to get in the way.

Nalick has a good voice for pop music, and in the future, she might be an artist worth following. But while she's working on her lyrical content, which only needs an intensity adjustment, her dull musical compositions could use a complete overhaul.

First single "Breathe (2 AM)" is a don't-give-up-girl cut that achieves its goal, even if the lyrics are a little obvious and the chorus a letdown. But that didn't stop the folks at "One Tree Hill" and the new film "A Lot Like Love" from grabbing it for soundtrack material.

"Citadel" finds Nalick seeking a place to fit in, and she finds solace that love one day will find her "In the Rough."

Nalick's debut isn't bad, and I wouldn't be surprised if "Breathe" becomes a hit - but she needs more seasoning before she realizes her potential.

RIYL: Vanessa Carlton, Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne (BK)

You are most welcome, Kelley. I absolutely love that part. I wish it was like that on cd version. Do you have the cd?

Did you see her on Leno? OMG when she did the a capella part, it was so hott!! Everyone clapping at the end of that part just added to the hottness. If you didn't see it, I think Shades has a link at her forum.

She is doing a few shows with Gavin DeGraw, I wish she was doing some on this coast.

So I have been trying to figure out what my favorite song is and it is so hard cause I really love them all. I kinda narrowed it down to "Forever Love (Digame)" "In The Rough," "Catalyst" and "Bleed."

So I read (http://forums1.sonymusic.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/5281024561/m/5561001013) that "In The Rough" is the next single. I wish it was "Bleed" but it's all good maybe it will be next.

As far as Leno, well that Shades is wealth of information, you can download it here (http://s1.youshareit.com/files/1b1e8ee46bc08a4fdb7873ed2b9ad187.html) For me sometimes the audio and video get off but believe me, I saw it on tv, she's singing. I actually heard "Breathe (2am)" on the radio here yesterday  8O. I randomly turned on the radio and was flipping stations and was all "hey, it's Anna Nalick!" lol. They said lots of people had been calling for it, which is good.

I don't listen to the radio much here because it sucks , but the fact that they are even playing it tells me the song is getting big because we're behind on EVERYTHING, and our stations only play songs that everyone else has been killing for 6 months, first  .

liz just bought the CD this weekend.  I've heard Breathe on the radio plenty of times, and I like it.  Haven't listened to every song yet, but I'm diggin' it.  Very good stuff.

So today was the day I had been waiting for since last Decemeber, finally seeing Anna Nalick live!

Luckily, the opening bands were actually pretty good but it was still a long wait.

Anna was cute as ever in a black, knee length ruffled skirt with a hot pink t-shirt, brown boots and belt. Anna told us a secret, or should I say showed us one. Due to the high stage and Modesto being very windy, she wore some boxers under her skirt just in case.

She opened with "Citadel." The band sounded a little muddy and Anna even made some faces at her guitar player about it. To me it seemed her vocals were not turned up enough. I could understand what she was saying because I know the words but it was very frustrating to watch.

Next was, "In The Rough." She said that the song was about a boy, from "here" and she hoped we never meet him. Again, the vocals were not loud enough. But I was loving her performance. She was giving it.

"Breathe (2am)" was a hit for the crowd. I had a feeling she was going to do the a capella part and sure enough that arm went up. Unfortunately, it was ruined for me cause everyone was singing along, LOUD!! I am sure you all can feel me.

Anna was handed her guitar and they did "Wreck of The Day." Anna was in a groove, playing and swaying with her eyes closed as she played. Did I mention that she is one silly woman? When she was done she said she saw some people "necking" I am pretty sure that was the term she used. I could be wrong. Anyhow, she pointed to like three guys telling them that they owed her.

Some other funny points - She shared how she just realized how white she is and is in need of a tan.
-Being B93.1's "Summerfest" there were beach balls flying all around, hitting the stage etc. She said, "Guys, stop playing with the balls while I'm singing." Anna realized what she said and could probably have died.
- At one point people were yelling about how sexy she is and she played along doing a little dance, and blowing a kisses. It was cute but she of course said she was kidding.

Anna said that she saw some people with the CD and asked for requests. I remembered how someone posted on the O board that she didn't do "Paper Bag" yesterday, I was pretty sure she would do "Bleed" and as much as I wanted her to do "Forever Love (Digame)" I knew it wasn't the right audience so I said, "Paper Bag." Anna said, "Okay." It was so great!! I loved it!! She was rockin' out. She did the hide her face/look through her fingers thing.

Anna closed the show with "Bleed" and of course I absolutely loved that too!! It so rocked!! Anna was dancing around it was so cute.

I was sad that it ended but what can you do?

I hope you can go Amanda. I was going to try and see my dad and go to the show but I dont think it's going to work out.

I got these from Brad's site Anna In The Rough (http://www.annaintherough.com) I hope he doesn't mind.    8)

10/27/04 Roxy Theatre (http://www.annaintherough.com/AnnaNalick2004-10-27breathe.mp3)  - Hollywood, CA - band
11/17/04 Hotel Cafe (http://www.annaintherough.com/AnnaNalick2004-11-17breathe.mp3)  - Hollywood, CA - acoustic
01/13/05 Hotel Cafe (http://www.annaintherough.com/AnnaNalick2005-01-13breathe.mp3)  - Hollywood, CA - band

I am not sure if this is going to work but here's a clip of Breathe (2am) (http://s9.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0Z1IMFQX3SKN40LKAMEWFRRXVR) from the show. It starts out sideways because I was just taking pictures but then I had a feeling she was going to do the a capella part so I started recording. Here's  In The Rough (http://s7.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1BUKD849LOIKE09C97B4H2ZD9Y) Like I said in my review, the vocals aren't loud enough and during "Breathe (2am)" people are singing some talking but I think my fellow fans will enjoy.

I suck and forgot to post a reminder about the Weekend Today show that she was on today. Here's a link (http://www.annaintherough.com/showthread.php?p=175#post175)

or you can go to Today's (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/7667583/) site where they also have "In The Rough." Not sure how I feel about that performance though, and they only got 2:43 or 2:48 seconds of it.

The Portland radio station The Buzz held a free concert called a "Cheap Date".
The Afters opened, they were cool.
Anna went on and was incredible!
Vertical Horizon closed the show but we didnt stay for them because we had to travel back up to Seattle.
After Anna's set we went to the back area and waited for her to come out and sign. She signed my CD, I got a picture with her and she commented on Renda's pink hair and said she used to put pink in her hair too.

My pics from tonight:
http://blackvulture.thiscrappyband.com/gallery/nalick050629

she was gorgous. It was all amazing.

It was kinda short, and didnt get to hear "In My Head" which is my favorite, but I have a new love for "In The Rough" after the show.
"Wreck" was the most country of the set, the guitarist used the steel guitar, so Anna played the acoustic to pick up the slack since the guitarist was buzy with that.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It doesnt quite feel right tho.

Anna will be servicing a faster-paced, heavier version (http://mms://66.186.0.101/allaccess/brearock.wma) of her hit song Breathe to pop stations. The song on pop is already headed for top 50, but doesn't officially go for adds until July 12th.

I'm not sure either. I'll probably need to hear a > 32Kb/s version. Either way, two versions are better than one :) And guitar leads are *never* a bad thing.

How do I feel?
I hate it ... especially for breathe. It's stripped of it's rawness and it's authenticity it's stripped of it's soul ... it's sugar coated and dipped in chocolate wrapped in cellophane ... it doesn't have any guts.
Made for the mundane masses ...

the worst is how they've diluted the bridge .. 2am and i'm stil awake writing a song .. etc ... how awesome is that part in the raw Leon performance .. you feel her!!!

I'm annoyed ...
Not to mention the guitar lead is weak. It can hardly be considered a lead.

I got to see Anna tonight  :).

Setlist
Citadel
Paper Bag
Consider This
Breathe (2am)
Wreck of the Day
Bleed

... Anna played for 27 minutes, about the length I expected her to play, considering she was the opener for the opener, LOL.

I was impressed at how pure her live voice is. It doesn't seem like they'd have to do much studio touching up at all. She sounds really good live.

The Amp was not even 1/4th full when she started, and was maybe 1/3rd full if that when she finished. She got some ok crowd love, though. A couple people stood and applauded when she did the acapella part of "Breathe."

I noticed she likes to dance while on stage, lol. I was back in the GA Bleacher seats (they let us lawn peeps move up, woot) so I couldn't see too well (plus the Amp failed to turn on the screens so people farther back can see *facepalm*   ), but I was watching her every time her band did a jam session during songs and she was just kind of dancin' along with a kick here, a kick there, a spin here, a spin there, lol.

Overall it was great to see her perform. I would have liked to hear "In The Rough," but that's what next time is for I suppose ;).

Awesome!
<- is jealous.

I finally had a chance to take a listen (it's been a long week). It's not that bad. It just sounds rushed, making it sound funny/weird. You can't deny her voice though.

Thanks BV.

The last show of hers was $12 too but it ended up costing me $70. This one with the service charges for two was like $35. Can't beat that. I just don't look foward to the Sacramento heat!! And you know I will share!!  8)

I saw Anna yesterday in Vegas. She was even better than the last time I saw her.

"Citadel"
"Paper Bag"
"Satellite"
"Consider This"
"Breathe (2am)"
"Wreck of The Day"
"In My Head"
"In The Rough"
"Bleed"

When she did "In My Head" she broke into Sheryl Crow's "Leaving Las Vegas" and then back into "In My Head" it was freakin' hott!! After the song she said how they warm up to it and thought they could work it in tonight. Some dude yelled, "I love that song!" and she yells back, "Me too!" It was hilarious.

Anna has so much personality. At one point she was asking if anyone had been doing any gambling and if there were any big winners. Someone said they had, and she was all really? How much? Then said asked if they wanted to take her on a date and did her little diva pose. Then added that she was an expensive date.

I guess I was into it a little bit too much because in the middle of singing she said, "Sing it sista!"

When she was introducing the band she mentioned how she bit Tim in the arm and then she said, "Don't mess with The Nalick, aiight?

She showed us her outfit which consisted of a black skirt and a pirate (skull cross swords) black t-shirt shirt. She said it was her pirate, ballerina, chic and did the ol' pirate arrrr, some poses and ballerina leaps.

We did the whole pass the line thing at HOB and as I was having lunch with my friend she said she brought her Felix The Cat shirt to change into. I said, "Oh really? Is it black? Let me see it." I told her that Anna has that same shirt. My friend didn't even know. So at the show, Anna stops and she points my friend out and says, "I have that exact shirt, Urban Outfitters, right?" Anna mentioned how she wore it on a TV show or something and that she almost wore it tonight and that she needs to start buying new clothes because her friends think she doesn't have any or something.

Towards the end of the show she said something about Howie Day, blah blah, people clapped and I yelled, "Anna Nalick!!" and we all started yelling and clapping and she kinda bowed and said something like that's what I like to hear.

I ran into Soluna's old tour manager who now works at HOB. He hooked me up with some passes to the private bar on the 3rd floor. So after Anna's set, Nicole and I hung out up there because she said she would like to meet the people after Howie's set.

I finally got to meet Anna. I told her how I was at the Modesto show and she said, "That was a fun show." I gave her the card that I had for her two months ago and told her that I didn't get to meet her but that she had played my request. I couldn't remember what it was and she says, "Paper Bag, I don't know how I remember that?" I was very impressed. I told her that she needs to do "Catalyst" for the Nor Cal people because of the last line and she said that she had thought about that. I guess we'll see. We got to take a picture and she signed my CD. I don't remember what else we talked about.

Another thing I was really impressed with was Anna's tour manager was saying that there were a lot of people and we needed to get moving cause she was spending a lot of time with us. Anna pretty much gave him a look and said, "It's fine." Pretty much blowing him off. It was great.

We all know that HOB is a no camera place so I took a few pictures with my phone and even some video with my phone. Oh, I almost forgot. I was trying to do a video and all of a sudden everyone was tapping me and woooing. Apparently (but not to me) Anna was posing for me. I guess Anna was waiting for the flash or something but I was doing video so that is why it took longer.

I get to see Anna again tomorrow in Sacramento!!  :D

It was a HOT one!! 103!!

Anna came on second which was fine with us because it was freakin' hot!! She did:

"Citadel"
"Paper Bag" after, she grabbed one of those supersoakers and sprayed the audience.
"Breathe (2am) after, she threw water and a the bottle almost hitting a person, she apologized  and started the song saying how she was a terrible person. During the song she even said I am so sorry.
"Wreck of The Day"
"Bleed" Before the part where she and Luis go back and for she said something like, bring it. She danced all around the stage and then it ended and she did her ballerina leaps off.

Anna performed barefoot and added that that probably wasn't a good idea, "Who wants to see me dance?"

Anna said that they were glad to be California, mentioning hot it is hot here but in Florida...  and of course because she is from California.

Anna's Nor Cal family was in full force, which was very cool.

Anna Nalick Sacramento, CA 08/07/05 (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/letben@sbcglobal.net/my_photos)

You know I always have to get this part of "Breathe (2am)" (http://s32.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3GC1J4DQN3JEO07UZ71SKCBA5I)

This one is like 5 minutes long but it has "the accident" "Wreck of The Day" (http://s18.yousendit.com/d.aspxd=2D5R2AWGQH2BQ237G8TCLFT2VE)

The end of "Bleed." (http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0JWH98TLAK2SM3BDKKMBU8PYJY) I didn't get the whole song because the faster, heavier songs just come out all distorted, like you will see towards the end. But this is the cool part, and what I think is part of the reason for getting overheated.

I was excited to hear her cd because I really liked the song "Breathe", but her cd really dissappointed me. I must say IMO it's one of the worst cds I've ever  heard out of an artist I thought I'd like. None of the songs sound anything like Breathe, they sound more like cheesy forgettable pop-rock songs. Wreck of the Day is ok, but it's too slow and boring.

And I heard her sing Breathe live on AOL or whatever and her voice sounded so annoying. I don't know what happened there. It's like they subdued her accent in the recording studio or something.

Wow! But it's cool, everyone has their own opinions. Steph, too said she liked the live stuff and was disappointed with the CD. Personally I think the CD is fantasitc (obviously) but I seriously think she needs to put out an acoustic CD or even a live CD with her band because they are so freakin' awesome live!! I hope you get the chance to check out a show because I know you would feel the same. She has so much energy and personality. It's great.

Hope all is well with you. Take care.  :)

So the setlist was the same tonight in San Francisco:

"Citadel"
"Paper Bag"
"Satellite"
"Consider This"
"Breathe (2am)"
"Wreck of The Day"
"In My Head"
"In The Rough"
"Bleed"

Anna almost had a wardrobe malfunction and had to run off stage after the first song to fix herself.

She mentioned "Catalyst" and how she realized that no one says "Frisco" but that the song was about a guy who she no longer liked so she hoped we forgive her. She also said we shouldn't date him unless were an artist and wanted some good material or something or another.

Anna was full of energy and you could hardly tell that she wasn't feeling well. She did tell me that she still didn't feel well but that she had been pretending.

What else? Tim said that they would be on the Today show or one of those mornging shows on the 20th, I don't recall which month but I will ask tomorrow.

It was a Fantastic night and I am beat down.

Nicole, we are going to have funnnnnnnnnn!! Luis is waiting to speak with you. Tim loves The Griddle, I invited him. Anna showed us pictures of her cat, brother, mom and dad. She's was all, "Do you want to see pictures of my cat?" She jumped in the bus and brought them out. She's too cute. We chatted for a good while. She gave me a few hugs and said, "I will see you tomorrow!!"

Thanks Holly!! It was nice talking to you. I wish you could have come.

No, Steve, I said almost. She noticed she might have one so she left real quick. Nicole did see something last night you would have liked to though, haha.

Jacq, we are so sad we didn't see you. What time did you get there? We were right up front, I just knew you would know that. We even saved you room. Why don't either one of us have your number.

Hollywood, CA 08.12.05

It was a packed house. I have never seen an HOB so packed. It was great!! It was just Anna opening tonight so that was even more fantastic. Not that Missy isn't ok but you know what I mean.

I couldn't believe how many people who were at The Fillmore show, were there too, and I am sure, will be there again tonight. Mostly HD fans. I ran into this chick in the bathroom who said, "You were at the show last night." I asked her if she was a HD fan and she said yes. I told her I was an Anna Nalick fan. She said that Anna was growing on her. (How can she not?) I told her how Anna said Howie was great last night and she agreed it was the best show. I had to admit that I honestly haven't given him a chance but he seems ok. (Can't be a snob.)

We were right up front so that was cool. I always tell the HD fans behind me that we will be leaving after Anna and they can have our spot. They love that. And lately say, see you tomorrow. Haha.

The setlist was the same, and when someone yelled out a song she said, "Don't tell me what to do." She is so funny.

"Citadel"
"Paper Bag"
"Satellite"
"Consider This"
"Breathe (2am)"
"Wreck of The Day"
"In My Head"
"In The Rough"
"Bleed"

She was full of energy and personality as always. Although, I didn't like the part where she dissed us Nor Cal people. She said LA people have cooler sayings to say hi or something, and that LA people always see famous people, it's no big deal (true, ask Nicole.) It's all good though. She was glad to be home. She was barefoot again which was ok since it wasn't an outdoor concert. She said that it was her party and that if she didn't want to wear shoes, she didn't have to. Although, admitted it wasn't a good idea to kick Ronald's high hat (cymbol).

She always talks about how uncool she is but I will have to disagree. There are some things she needs to work on like not letting her accessories get tangled up in her mic cord, it was so funny. She kinda looked at me and laughed. None the less she totally is cool!!

She told her "Wreck of The Day" shirt story. For those don't know it. She went to the video store one day to get "The Never Ending Story" (I am pretty sure that's what she said) and how she didn't have cash so they swiped her card, and asked for ID. The cashier looked at her ID, looked at her, looked at her shirt and said, "Why do you call yourself the wreck of the day?" So she explained it was the name of her album.

I ran into Anna after her set. It was so random. We were headed to the bathroom. She walked right passed me so I said, "Hey Anna" She was like, "Oh hi!" Hugged me and hugged Nicole saying, "Hi, I'm Anna." Haha. I told her that she was in Vegas (not like she remembers everyone.) Nicole was all, she was just on stage, like I don't know who she is. Haha. She thanked me for coming. Nicole said she first said, "You came." But I didn't hear it.

When we were waiting for the valet I heard these girls talking about how good she was, and how much they liked her, she had good stage presence. I always like to hear that. Cause it's true!!

Here's a really long one Katie and everyone else, but I promise it is worth reading. I did like Missy.

08.13.05 HOB Anaheim

This was the last day of the tour. I HAD to be upfront. I made a dinner reservation so we could Pass The Line. We got to Downtown Disney and headed for The HOB. As we were being seated we walk right by the boy's table. I stop and say hello, and introduce them all to my friend Nicole. I told them they were great last night and Luis said he didn't see me. Tim said, She was right up front, I pointed my bass at you. The host dude was waiting to take us to our table so I told them bye.

When I sat down, I saw my HD friend from the night before, already in line. I went over to say hello and asked if they would be interested in trading off holding down the line so we could take breaks etc. She said that would be cool, they had already eaten. I told her that we just got seated and she said that was fine.

I took care of the check and as I was walking to the line, I saw Anna. I swear we had some serious random, lucky timing this whole weekend. My HD friend, pointed Anna out and said that she was going to come get me, which was cool.

I walked up to Anna and she said hi and gave me a hug. I told her that I had the pictures for her and she said that she had a friend there so she probably wouldn't see me later. I gave her, her album, and I said this one is for your mom, and this one is for your aunt. She said oh, you are too sweet and hugged me again. We chatted a bit and shehe said, "I am having a little listener party, would you want to be on the list?" I said, sure and asked when it was. She said she had to put some makeup on then it would be happening. This lady walked up and Anna hands me the photo album back and says, "Here, you give it to her." I said, "Oh is this your mom?" I introduced myself and she herself and her friend and asked who my friend was. I told her it was nice to meet her and she thanked me for the pictures. She told me to wear a hat, they were all wearing hats. I was like, no one told me. So I felt bad and didn't have time to go buy one.

Tim waved us over so we could go to the listening party. We were taken to the dressing room which was literally 12x6. Nicole and I were like, where is she going to play? Our lap. There were 3 contest winners with two guests, 2 radio staff, and the label rep. As we were waiting the mother of one of the winners asked me how we got in and I said, "A personal invite from Anna." Which was true. So, of course I did not have my camera, it being HOB and all. Anna was literally a foot in front of me. She and Luis started with "Citadel." I seriously wanted to cry. It was so beautiful, all Anna, no mic or anything.

After "Citadel" she asked if anyone had any questions. You know how these radio things are, no one really knows who she is. So I asked her about "Forever Love (Digame)" and how the digame part was added, did she speak Spanish, know someone or what.? She said that she had a Puerto Rican boyfriend who was a real jerk face and some of the other songs are about him too. Anyhow, she said that when she was upset or something was wrong he would say, whats wrong, digame. She then told us about her car accident and how it was like two miles from her house, she flipped, skidded like two house lengths and hit a tree. She said that she was thinking about how she has never been loved back the way that she loved someone or how she wanted to be loved and just put it into the song.

I asked her why she doesn't do it and she said because its slower, there are two songs on the album that they don't do. She talked about Catalyst and how it's a great song and hopefully they can work them in on the Rob Thomas tour.

She asked if there were any other questions and I said if no one else does, I have another. Someone asked her about her tour and she said who she had opened for and that they had two weeks off and then were going to Japan and then maybe Australia.

Anna then looked back over at me and asked if I had another question. I said, you have a song on The Desperate Housewives Soundtrack, Band of Gold how did that come up? She was all, You know about that? I said yes. So she said that she was approached with two covers and she decided to go with this one, they recorded it a few weeks ago. Then she said to Luis, why dont we do a little bit of it? So she did!! I wanted to seriously die!! I have always loved Belinda Carlisles version.

Anna then said, well I guess we will do the one you guys know now. During it she noticed my phone was open, I don't know if she knows it's a video phone too but she leaned into my phone and winked. It was so funny. I was happy cause at the Vegas show and the SF show she posed for my camera and I missed it. Here's the clip, same deal, copy and paste into a new window, sorry. http://www.boomspeed.com/smpd24/wink.mov

After "Breathe (2am)" Luis left the room and the label rep said we could take pictures. I was trying to let the other people go first because well, I have a few already. But the room was so small I went first. One of the mothers of the winner said she would email the picture. I sure hope she does. After the pictures, the label rep asked if she would mind signing 8x10s. Anna, of course did not mind. The lady asked my friend what her name was and she said, Nicole. Anna made sure she spelled it right. Then she asked me what my name was. I hesitated and she asked me again. I said, Let. She looks at the picture and says, "Oh, she already knows your name." Nicole was all, "You're happy now, arent you?" I must admit,  I seriously was.

We went back to the line. I told my HD friends about what happened and then we went to the bar to get a drink. Shortly after that we were let in. I was in my usual spot. I saw Anna up on the second floor just chillin' so I waved, she waved back. Then Ronald was up there talking to her and I waved at him, and he waved back. So then I look up and I hear Anna say, "I love you Let!" I said, "I love you more!" I then was like, wait, did that just happen? I had to get confirmation from my friend and my HD friends and they were like, yes, awe.

The show was great. They were all wearing hats for their friend who is terminally ill and wears hats so that was very touching and cool. After "Paper Bag" she was talking and says, "My next song, wait, whats the next song?" I said, "Satellite." She looks at her setlist and says, yeah, "Satellite" and kinda laughs.

Anna was talking about how it was the end of the tour and how they enjoyed being with Howie, blah blah. Then she says, "How about a whoop for Howie Day?" When the cheering died, I said, "How about a whoop for Anna Nalick?" She says, "How about 2 whoops?" We cheer and she says, "The check is in the mail."

So during "In My Head" Luis lost power or something so it all stopped. Some dude yelled out, "A cappella." I yelled out "Forever Love." She didn't quite know what I said so my friend helped and said it with me. So she says, "If I do this will you all forgive me for what just happened and think I am cool and not go home saying eh, she's alright?" I am like yesssssssss!! So she busted out some "Forever Love" and can I just say that I was totally happy!! Not that I wasn't before but that is my most favorite song and had yet to hear it. She didn't do all of it but that's ok.

The last song is Bleed and during the song she rips one of the necklaces off her neck, walks over to me and hands it to me. I was so touched!! She then ripped one more and gave it to someone and then her tiara. But to be first? Very cool!!

The Riverside!?

Boooooooooooooooo.

LOL.

Looks like tickets for this show are probably going to be $40-50... and if that is the case as much as I like Anna I probably won't go  .

(Ticket info isn't up yet for the Milwaukee show, but I was just looking at the other shows prices. Plus when I thought about going to see Kelly Clarkson at the Riverside it was like $50 and I went 8O and didn't go lol)

There were some new dates added Nicole. Maybe there's one close to you. She's great live!! I hope you can make one too Dustin.

I hope you like the CD Ghis!!

I meant to post about this before but there was no link to a sample but there is now!!

Anna has a single on the Desperate Housewives Soundtrack (http://www.hyfntrak.com/hollywoodsoundtracks/AFF19858/) due out September 20th. The album is all covers. She does Freda Payne's "Band of Gold." Which was also done by Belinda Carlisle in the 80's (that's where I know it and love it from)

That's great that you are finally hearing it Katie.

Yes Ghis, it is the single. Some people have already been hearing it. I hope it does well. No word about a video. She had a few weeks off from her tour but I am not sure if they filmed one, or if they ever did. I know she has a few shows in Japan next week, then the little headline tour with Low Millions (I really hope I can make it). Then in November with Rob Thomas. She is one busy girl. I hope it pays off.

Just downloaded her album & I'm loving it! Dunno why I didn't check it out sooner.

And holy crap, I just looked at the tour dates & she's playing in my town. 11/19/05 TEMECULA, CA PECHANGA RESORT & CASINO. Dude, that's like 10-15 minutes away from me. Tickets are $75 tho, ahh that's expensive so I dunno what I'm gonna do.. crap. And I like Rob Thomas to so I really wanna go. But me & my friends are already going to a concert this month & I've been to like 2 recently which is my dilemma.

How fast do you guys think tickets will sell out? I'm gonna have to think about going or wait till next time she tours.

So, I just returned for a short trip to Florida where I got to hang out with old friends and see Anna Nalick again.

By now you all should know I have long ass stories, so be warned. But as always, it will be worth it, so keep reading.

10.14.05 Freebird Live - Jacksonville, Florida

Anna has been sick so this show was an acoustic show with Luis, her guitar player.

"Citadel"
"Paper Bag"
"Satellite" she said she didn't know how she was going to do the bridge and crossed her fingers prior and did the sign of the cross - she did great!!
"Forever Love (Digame)"
"Consider This" she was doing Timmy's, Luis' and Ronald's parts with her voice, too funny.
"Home"
"Wreck of the Day" she said it was her favorite song on the album
"In The Rough" she spoke of her new video and asked us to not laugh at her as she is so not an actress.
"Catalyst"
"In My Head"
"Breathe (2am)"

So, of course I was right up front. Anna immediately waved to me. By the second song Luis saw me and gave me a big surprised smile too. Anna was chatty as ever and soon there was talk of tattoos. She said how she was thinking maybe an anchor and I was like no. She said, "No? It's like putting down roots." I shook my head and she said, "Ok, I will listen to you."

There was one point where Anna got distracted and forgot what was next so I said, "Catalyst." She replied with, "See that's why I need people here who have been to a few shows so they can keep me on track."

It came to a point in the show where she said that we had a choice between "Bleed" and "In My Head."  My first reaction was, "Bleed." So everyone was like "Bleed" - "In My Head." I saw her looking at me as if to see what I wanted but  don't give me choices cause I can't decide. She looks at me and says, "I'm going to ask this young lady what she wants to hear." Ok, so prior to the show we went for wings and oysters where I also enjoyed $1.25 drafts. Yes, $1.25. I had 4 for the price of one out here. Craziness! I, of course had a few more after that and well, I look at her and I say, "What's my name?"  She looks at me and she says, "Don't tell me. It's one syllable." I could see it was right there but I didn't want to suffer anymore or she. I told her my name and she was so like ahhhchk I knew that. So, she says, "I'm going to ask my best friend Let what she wants to hear." I really wanted "Bleed" because it would have been interesting acoustic not to mention it is my second favorite song but I said "In My Head." So she says, "I'm going to do "In My Head for my best friend Let." She starts singing and then all of a sudden stopped and looked at me so sad. I was like what's wrong, it sounds fine. She said, she was so sorry and she felt horrible. I was like, it's ok, it's my fault I am on the wrong coast. She said, "You are on the wrong coast." She continued and a few times instead of the lyric she would sing, "I loooove Leeeettt" then one time she said, "Who loves Letttttt?" Surprisingly, everyone wooooed. It was too much.

When I spoke with her after she said that she knew the last time she saw me and it was one syllable but she just couldn't get it out. I told her that it was ok, I knew that she wasn't good with names. She said that she only remembers two names, mine included but she just couldn't come out with it. She said how she was so excited last time she saw me because she actually remembered my name. I must admit I was sad and embarrassed that she didn't remember. I mean, she was talking with me during the set and I know she kinda knew me. It's actually better she didn't  We had great chats and when we said bye she said, "I will see you tomorrow. I am going to dedicate the show to you, don't think I won't." I was like ok, whatever.

10.15.05 The Social - Orlando, Florida

Anna had the boys with her tonight. I was very excited because my friend Danny and his fiancee' were coming to the show. Danny and I used to be best concert buddies. We saw everyone from Vanessa, to M5 to Mraz, Evanescence, Michelle Branch etc. etc.  We had a few drinks, and a shot during Blue Merle. It was good times.

Anna starts with "Citadel." After, she says hello to the crowd and says, "That was Citadel and it was dedicated to my friend Let who is standing right (points) here, who everyone song tonight is dedicated to her." I was like wow, really? Ok? Before "Satellite" she says, "For my good friend Let." Before "Forever Love (Digame)" she said, this is "Forever Love" and it's to my friend Let." Before "Home" she did it again, looks at me and says, "You thought I was kidding." I was like, um yeah. The best part is when "Home" first came out and we were all trying to figure out the lyrics on the board I made a comment how I liked how she said Let so many times. Everytime she said and you let me lay my burdens down. Or there was let whatever she would look at me and smile. My poor friend Danielle I think was embarrassed but got used to it.

After, "Consider This" she told the story how I busted her out the night before and she called me the wrong name. I was like, you didn't call me the wrong name you didn't say anything but it's one syllable.

If she forgot to dedicate the song to me before the song, she did it after. During "In The Rough" instead of belting out the lyric she sang, "This is dedicated to Let." It was so funny cause I was waiting to sing along and she broke out with that.

The last song was "Breathe (2am)" and she says this song is going out to my friend and everyone says, "Let." She says, no not Let and she looks at me and says, "You're not going to be my friend anymore are you?" I was like no, it's okay, I know who it's for. We talked about it prior to the show.

So yeah, that girl is too much!! I had people saying hi to me after the show and I think they really thought we were friends cause this one kid who's birthday it was who she had Luis sing to asked me to tell her thank you and he hopes she feels better. It was cute.

The setlist was shorter but the poor girl is still recovering.

"Citadel"
Paper Bag"
"Satellite"
"Forever Love (Digame)"
"Home"
"Wreck of the Day"
"Consider This"
"In The Rough"
"In My Head"
"Breathe (2am)"

Nicole (ILoveHanson) went to the show last night in ATL and I asked her to give Anna a message. She told her she had a message and Anna said, "Oh yeah, what is it?." My friend handed her phone to her and she scrolled the text message. She said, "Awe, she's so cute, I love her, tell her I said hi." She told her how she dedicated the whole show to me etc.

Laura, Anna and I aren't really friends, yet. She has mad family and friends in LA so I doubt I will even get to see her. But who knows?

Let, I do have something to ask you: could you have something signed by Anna for me by any chance? (poster, cd booklet for example)
I'd be really grateful! :)

If I get the chance, and I remember I mostly certainly will. If you don't care if it has your name on it, I am sure I have something around here now. My first show is not until the 11th and I am not sure if I will be back in time to go but I have 5 more shows after that but hopefully, it will all work out and I will get to go to all of them.

Hmmm, well, would it be too much to ask if I can get both? (with and without my name on it, since you have something on hands apparently)
What do you have anyway?
Thanks Let :)

Leticia, I want something too!  But it isn't something materialistic.  Could you give Anna a hug and say "This is from your brother from another mother."  I know it's a tongue-twister, but YOU CAN DO IT, Leticia!

Thanks in advance!

"In The Rough" might actually get some airplay here. The Mix has it as their "Rate Mix Music" link of the week:

One of the most compelling emerging artist success stories of the year, Anna Nalick struck gold with her debut album, "Wreck of the Day." With all music and lyrics written by Anna, "Wreck of the Day" has signaled the arrival of an unmistakable new voice in pop music. Anna is currently on tour with Rob Thomas and will be in Milwaukee on Wednesday, November 30th at the Riverside Theater. You've heard her first hit single "Breathe (2AM)" on the Mix, now we want to know what you think of her second single titled "In The Rough." Please take a moment to listen to a short sample of the song and fill out a survey.

Great to see you again Let!  Anna was wonderful in Sacramento--she sounded and looked great.  The people in the audience around us had no idea who she was (we set them straight), but we could hear them saying how talented Anna was (duh!).  I took a picture of Anna right as she slid across the stage--hopefully it will come out.  After Rob's set (boring), we met Anna for the second time.  She is one of the sweetest celebrities that we have ever met!  She is gracious and funny, and very sincere.
We can't wait for Oakland.  See you there Let!

Laura, my friend, you are in for a treat! She is so much better live than the CD. "Bleed" is going to blow you away.

The setlist has been the same the last 3 nights. I have been able to see/speak with her each night but the last two nights she didn't do a signing. Holly, did you get to meet her?

So this was my 16th show. I must admit that she wasn't as chatty and funny as she usually is. She of course sounded great and it was a fun show.

At the end of Catalyst she said Sannnnnnnn Francisco which caused mad applause. I told her awhile back that no one says, Frisco which she said she knew.

I was very happy that Tricia, Tylor and Katia made it to the show.  :)

Anyhow, you can check out my photos here (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/letben@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=/33f3&.src=ph) and if you're one of my MySpace friends you can see the one of she and I and the boys there.

it boggles my mind that she still does the Supporting Act gigs. When she was last in Seattle she headlined the same club venue twice in the same night and SOLD OUT both shows.

If her subsequent singles do a bit better than In The Rough did, I think she should headline.

Just got back from the show and Tim asked me what I honestly thought of the track. I told him that it was too fast and I really didn't care for it except the part with the whoas, that is like it, live. They just heard it today. He didn't really say what he felt, I am going to have to ask him.

More about the show later. Must get sleep.

I just got her "new" CD this week, featuring "Wreck of the Day ('06)", and I can say that it was worth more than the $2.79 I had to pay in shipping for it.  Though there's not very much on it to recommend anyone (other than a fan) to get it if they've already got the original version, if you have neither version, I would certainly recommend this version because it features the original version in its entirety, plus a new take on "Wreck of the Day", and three demo songs that make me love her voice and writing style even more than before.

"Wreck of the Day ('06)" emphasizes its triple-meter feel more than the original record, and features entirely different instrumentation.  The tempo is just a touch faster, though not too much, and is in a slightly higher key.  Her vocal has a lot more color to it, and overall the music sounds a touch brighter than the original.

The three demo songs at the end are very well-recorded, and "Drink Me" particularly sticks out to me not just because of the intriguing poetic references in the lyrics, but the way she bends them around such a mesmerizing melody.  "More Than Melody" also has a melody that in places catches me in a similar way.

That should be 'she doesn't think a new album will be out until next year'.

BTW, Anna switched labels from Columbia to Epic (still under Sony) so there must have been creative or business differences with Columbia.

From what I've heard her say, there's certainly no lack of material for a new album.  An interview I read just months after 'WOTD' was released indicated that she had some 25 other songs she had written.  I am actually surprised there hasn't been a second album yet.

Glad they are using YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/v/_F5j59fBytQ&rel) even at this early stage to promote the song and have people remember her.

If anyone didn't get the rip of the song, I can email it to you.

A note about Shine:
"Shine" is a song FOR those people who have made mistakes in a public way, FOR people whose mistakes and heartbreak are considered
entertainment. When sad things that would hurt ANYBODY happen, like
your relationship falling apart and making entertainment news, or you constantly being told how you aren't good, thin, pretty, or rich enough, or your job being so taxing for the roles you have to play whether it's having to immerse yourself in a crazy depressed state of mind to play a crazy depressed character, or having to stay permanently smiling every time you leave your house even though you've just had a miscarriage, or an argument with someone you love, or your dog died and you finally crack, we just say, "It was bound to happen, everyone in Hollywood is shallow and addicted."

"Shine" is also saying that little girls, like your daughters and sisters or you, don't have to throw up to be pretty, be sleazy to be loved, or be crazy to get attention. Just because the BAD things are what people pay money for doesn't mean that those things are ALL of what your favorite movie and music stars are. What about the fact that the heiress is an amazing business woman, and the popstar writes poetry, can really dance, or really sing?

I got to go to an in studio performance of Anna's yesterday. I was so very excited to see Anna again and I think she was pretty surprised to see us again, well maybe not again but there. She is in true form if not better and lovely as ever. She did 4 songs, Breaking The Girl, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcV2-M5ZFHU) Walk Away, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJWkLQXZe6c) Shine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R6LCA_KZoU) and Breathe (2am) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkcHqRM4yB0) She opened up for questions which pretty much were the same old, who is your biggest influence, what are you listening to now (Sara Bareilles was the answer.) We were told that her album is due out at the end of summer, not given a true date but were told August. *Fingers Crossed*

After her set she signed, took photos, and as always took the time to speak with everyone and was appreciative for the support.

She's very excited for the album and ready to rock!!

I acquired her album a couple of weeks ago and it's a lot better than I thought when I sampled it the first time. I love "Forever Love", and I love love love "Shine". I can't wait for the new album.

So she's finally back!! New song is up at AnnaNalick.com not sure about this new look but who cares!?! She sounds amazing as ever.

She's doing a residency at Hotel Cafe in LA starting 08.31, 9.21.9.28 and 10.05. There's also one show in Nashville but I don't remember the date off the top of my head.

In Nov. I caught some shows of Anna. She is back and better than ever. Not sure when to expect a new album. But she's doing shows here and there. We caught some shows a few years ago too.

From November, one of my faves:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyrdfSju9YA here's my favorite oldie:

So Anna has a new album, "At Now" which came out last week. It was a long time coming but we'll worth the wait. Her voice is even better!!

I am headed to NYC to see her Friday with Nicole (loveplasticlove) and Sunday in VA with Katia. Can't wait. I've seen her a number of times over the years. She has another album that came out a few years ago, Broken Dolls and Odds & Ends." It too is great. Check them out.
