Title: What if "Rinse" was released instead of BnN?
Post by: nevereSA on February 22, 2005, 09:00:19 pm
How much more/less successful do you think Vanessa would have been if "Rinse" was released instead of "Be not Nobody"?

Obviously "Rinse" has a bunch of favorites like Superhero, All I Ask, and the divide & conquer version of OD, but do you believe it would've been more or less of a commericial success, especially with a differently produced ATM?

This is a really great topic for discussion, and I look forward to what's put forth here.  I really couldn't say because that's so hypothetical as to be prohibitively unimaginable for me unless I knew everything about the producer and company she was with at the time.  I first saw Vanessa on MTV, and I thought it was so cool to be playing a piano on MTV, and her name stuck with me.  Eventually, it was airplay and the choice of singles that hit the radio that made me interested.  I was determined to get her album 'Be not Nobody' shipped in to me before "Pretty Baby" ever hit the radio.  So, based on that instance, how could that have played out similarly using the material from 'Rinse' rather than 'Be not Nobody'? 8)

Rinse does have all the three singles from BnN, though, so if Rinse had been released instead of BnN, maybe not much would change. I guess the real question, somewhat, is which of the mix of the singles has a better appeal.

I do feel that Rinse has a stronger track list than BnN. I mean, it has Interlude, Ordinary Day, Pretty Baby, Wanted, All I Ask, Superhero, Twilight...  8), even though I pefer the BnN version of some of the songs over the Rinse version.

Rinse wasn't very radio friendly. The production sounded too light for that. Also, I don't get why everyone raves about Superhero. That wouldn't have done anything for the general public.

I don't get it.  There's another album besides the other 2 that she has called Rinse?

If you have time, you might find it helpful to go back and read some of the older posts.  'Rinse' was the title of her first studio album with another producer, Peter Zizzo by name, but it was never released.  It shares several songs with 'Be not Nobody', but they are completely different recordings and it also has other songs like "Carnival", "Superhero", and "All I Ask" that her fans rave about though she never performs them anymore.

I'd still kill for a decent recording of Faces.

I want to hear a good recording of faces to. Its one of my absolutly favourite songs. I'd die for a new recording.

Rinse wouldn't have been succesful. Maybe Superhero, but not the Rest. IĀ“love it even though but the arrengments aren't that good. On Rinse is to much computer and less real Instruments.

After hearing the 'Be not Nobody' versions, the 'Rinse' version would sound so unfinished.
