Since we are all waiting patiently for V's thrid album, what was it like waiting for harmonium?
We all know many songs on the new album...like PYHOM, The One, Best Behavior, All I Ask, This Time... but did you know of White Houses or anything before Harmonium was out??
V's main thing about this album is "being heard." She want's everyone to know about it...what was her harmonium hopes?
When did you find out what it was called or when it was coming out
I know it may be wierd, but im just curious

...yes, i/we(a lot of people) knew about a bunch of the songs on harmonium before it came out.

yeah she had been playing papa, c'est la vie and she floats in concert for a bazillion years before harmonium came out. plus she had played afterglow at one show, plus white houses came out waaaay before harmonium did. so the tracks weren't really a total secret.

all i remember was that it was supposed to come out October 15th so I was going to get it when I was in NYC, but then it got pushed back and back and back and finally in early summer 2005 i found an import after having been round soooo many cd stores in London. I work hard for nessa.

I think she told everyone on the message boards. If you want to find out what she worte on the message boards, read some of her posts in the "Official Vanessa Carlton Posts" in this forum. :)

well at first Vanessa told us the single was going to be Private Radio,... but that later changed to White Houses..(i believe she told us about this beforehand, too)

I wonder how MTV and VH1 would have handled Private Radio if it was the single? Even though Private Radio is about masturbation, I don't think they could have censored it like White Houses because its all a big metaphor whereas WH is so much more blunt with its wording.

The Harmonium wait was kind of frustrating--especially from a promotions standpoint.
Things kept getting pushed back and finally when they decided to push White Houses in early August the CD release was pushed back from October to November 9th. The reason for all the pushbacks was (I think) because they were trying to make everything perfect and make a good run with V because they were really hitting the radio trail hard, but things didn't really work out. White Houses sank on the charts, thanks to the lack of push on MTV/VH1 and the fact Interscope stopped pushing it after the initial radio push, Harmonium didn't come out until halfway through her promotional tour for it, and the CD leaked on the internet 2 months early and killed pretty much all the hype for non-fanboys.
There were a lot of expectations on Harmonium because of the fact it was her sophomore CD, and there was a 2 1/2 year gap between CD releases, which pretty much made people in the mainstream forget about her. With the lack of promotion by A&M, the album didn't do well in the mainstream. I think the focus for VC3 will be more towards the core group of fans, but at the same time will kind of try to regain some of those lost chances from Harmonium.
... and just with the potential songs for VC3, I wouldn't be surprised if a couple don't make it. I know at one point Vanessa said that Swindler was going to be on VC2 (ie: Harmonium), but it wasn't. And I think Morning Sting was going to be on Harmonium too, but it didn't make it either. Just something to keep in mind.

It's about insomnia too. But the reason she has insomnia is because she's "lonely" if you know what I mean. Listen to the lyrics and it will all piece together.
I guess I could be wrong about this, but the lyrics go so perfectly with that idea that it would just be too big of a coincidence for that not to be what she's singing about.

I wish people in this country used the word wanking. That's a way better onamatapoea (when a word sounds like what it means) than the words we have for masturbation. That word could be used in any context and it would make me laugh. :lol:
