Jon.
in a recording, she said that she has a blue ditty and a red ditty, but she wont be able to play the blue ditty at the moment because she just cant. Now i dont know if that is because its too hard....but it could be.
-
She probably couldn't play it because of her record company....who knows?
-
I dunno...I've written songs before that were too hard for me to play...
cause you can hear it & thrn get it down on paper, but maybe you just can't play it fast enough...
-
Blue ditty has always baffled me...
I've always wanted to hear it, i think it would be cool if she put it on a hidden track on the next cd...
all the hardcore fans will be so excited...
I wonder what the lyrics are to blue ditty sometimes....
I think its basically the other side of the story of red ditty...
(i wonder if she will make a green ditty, and a yellow ditty, and a pink ditty...lol...)
either way, i bet its good!!!

You guys know that a ditty is a simple song, right?
-
is it possible that she couldnt play it because it was an all ages show, and blue ditty might have some...bad words in it.
 just a theory.

and then apologizes lol

She might've said she "just can't play" it that day 'cause maybe she was out of practice or something. It could be as simple as that. But I'd bet it has nothing to do with her skills--personally I can't imagine writing a song I couldn't play...but that's just because of the way I write music I guess. lol
-
Yeah, that's probably it. Why we're making such a fuss about this I don't know, but still the fact is she probably just had not practiced, and that's all there is to it....

I would venture to guess that it's because it's about something that she doesn't want to think about right now. It probably has a meaning from a different point in her life that she wouldn't feel comfortable singing about today.
-
Are we even sure it exists? Maybe she just mentioned it as a joke, or something like that, to give us fans something to wonder about

that's exactly what I have been thinking since she said that years ago. I don't think it exists, and I won't until she proves me wrong.

If you take her comments in context, it was obviously a joke. I have no idea why people have gotten so worked up about an off the cuff attempt at humor.
-
That's what I've been thinking too. If you pay attention, she likes to make fun of her own compositions. About "Private Radio", she cornered herself and had to explain that it was not about making bombs in the middle of the night. She said "She Floats" was a song about a dead girl, and then laughed and tried to explain that a little better and almost got lost. She described "Half A Week Before The Winter" as depicting a fictional war between vampires and unicorns, laughed and said, "I'll give you all a moment to absorb that," and then explained that it was a metaphor. When she introduced "A Thousand Miles", she said, "I know I'll be playing this song for the rest of my life, but that's okay because it allows me to write weird songs about vampire wars."
So, of course, she's got jokes. Many of her comments, especially on stage, should be taken just as that. 8)

I agree...mostly. I mean, (1) it's not a big deal & (2) she does joke a lot about her songs. At least she does NOW. But if you hear recordings from before she was famous, including the one we're all discussing this thread, she seems so much more shy & just speaks in a completely different manner. That's what it seems like to me. So while I still think it's no big deal, I thought I'd mention I notice that difference & I think it's pretty interesting. :D
-
I still remember at one of her very first public performances, she started talking about getting a new couch in her apartment or something like that, and that was the intro to her next song. It's nice to see how she has developed that tendency to ramble into a very constuctive interaction with her audience. :D

i know a ditty is a simple song, but what if it was so simple it was complicated???? lol...
i think that she might have just forgotten the lyrics, or the melody at the time...either way, this song is driving me nuts....
i have to know what it is!!!
