Give me reasons why I should quit.
I want some reasons from fellow people who do or do not smoke. Thanks =)
(I do smoke occasionally, but I need to decide whether to keep it up or not...It's addicting, you know?)
-
what r u stupid? sorry but y the hell would u want to smoke?? Its a waste of money and a waste of time. Not to mention It will kill u and everybody around u.
-
I've never smoked and I'll try not be as brutal as Alex but... Cancer, bad breath, and it ruins your looks (You'll get wrinkles faster than most people that don't smoke). :?
-
Thanks for not being as brutal Joe =)
I think maybe I'll try quitting cold turkey. Considering that I only smoke maybe two or three times a month, I'm not very bad off right now. It's kind of hard though when everyone around you smokes. I mean, you walk out of a building and there's people smoking EVERYWHERE. I hadn't smoked since I was 15 and I was always tempted to smoke again. I finally gave in like a month and a half ago.
-
Just be strong. Everyone that I hung around with smoked and I never even took a puff a cig (not that I wasnt tempted sometimes.).
-
Main reason to stop smoking: Your freakin' health. We don't wanna lose ya!
My shallow reason: Because it makes you look terrible! Personally, once a girl lights up, I can't think of kissing her.
-
I got some friends that smoke, I dont personally but I know all sides of it. I will tell you this. I dont smoke mainly cause its too fucking expensive. In Washington state its like over 7 bucks a pack. fuckthat.
But on top of that, it makes you smell like shit.
As for the health stuff. You wanna die young, I say go for it.
-
I've never smokes although it is very hard when almost all of your friends smoke ....bah it stinks
-
quit now while you can! There is the harshest advert for quiting smoking here with this guy who can barely breathe saying 'just make your decision' it then says that he died 3 weeks after it was filmed, don't be like him!
-
Both of my parents smoked at one time and since have both quit.............so at first I was around smoke all the time, and now I'm not ever but on the few occasions that I am the smoke gives me a killer headache.........so if you don't stop smoking for yourself, think of the others, they'll surely appreciate it :)
-
I smoke a minimum of a pack a day.
-
i don't smoke cuz i wnat to die when i'll be 124 year old
Is that a good reason not to smoke
-
my boyfriend's mom died when he was 9 of lung cancer - he grew up without a mommy
-
I don't smoke around other people because I know how much the smell can bother others. It used to drive me crazy. Well, so far today I haven't lit up and I'm going to try to go through the day without one even though I want one.
-
I smoke cigars on occasion...and once in a blue moon I'll have a cigarette, but I will only smoke a Nat Sherman cigarette...It's a social thing, but I will probably never smoke again because it's banned in bars and clubs in New York, but No I don't smoke, and everyone should quit unless you are a social smoker and you smoke fashionable cigarettes.
-
I've never had a cigarette :) I've always been pretty strongly anti-smoking.

Breathing=good
therefore smoking = bad!
The End
seriously...i volunteered in a hospital this summer and got to see people in the cancer wing on ventilators. NOT FUN. I've never tried a cigarette but i can't imagine anything being worth that risk. Especially if its gross and disgusting.
-
Never have smoked, never intend to. I hate the stuff, mostly for the reasons described above, the smell and the whole premature death factor surrounding it.
-
I dont smoke, and have never smoked before.
-
I am very Anti-Smoking!
-
and hopefully never will :)
-
I can't be the only smoker here
-
I smoke sometimes! lol...You're not alone.
-

impressive. I have tried it and its just not my style.
-
"A man's shoes will tell you if he has money. His clothes, if he has style. But if you want to know if he's a sport, see if he's wearing a good cigar."
NAT SHERMAN, 1938
-
I'm fairly strongly anti-smoking too. I've never had a "regular" cigarette but had a few irregular 8O ones and the odd cigar (on special occasions). Not for years though - I wouldn't smoke anything now (and believe me - I get the damn things passed to me enough).
-
Never smoked/tried, and never will!
Smoking sucks to me! plus it smells bad, ewww!
-
I smoke sometimes! lol...You're not alone.
Thank God. I was feeling like an outsider...I smoke everyday though as oppose to sometimes
-
I smoked a couple of times, and never liked it. It's just a waste of money. What is it good for anyways? Shorten your life span?
-
I smoke and I always tell people who ask if they should smoke or not to not start. I like smoking for several different reasons, none of them social reasons, but the problem with smoking is all those reasons are not worth the addiction. The more you smoke the more you want to smoke. You start smoking when you don't really want to because of the physical addiction. I've seen older people hooked up to oxygen tanks, smoking. I'm going to continue smoking but when people ask me that question, the younger people, I always tell them not to start because of the reason I stated above. The main wish I have is that both smokers and non-smokers try to be curtious to each other. Nowadays if non-smokers tell smokers it bothers them, in a polite manner, the smoker will step off to the side out of the way or extingish the cigarette.
-
i use 2 smoke i started in grade 7 and quit in grade 8. now i'm in grade 9 so its been a year
-
you know what sux...
i'm allergic to it! so not only can i not smoke but i cant be around people who do for awhile! if i do then my tonsils freak out and i get a high fever.. very not fun! ive gotten sick sooo many times from it :(
-
I think everyone has given the main obvious reasons
Health to include your teeth, yuck!! Expense..Wow, a lot of damn money that is wasted on cigarettes.
I don't smoke but my roomate does. In the winter he started smoking in the house he said it was too cold outside. I keep my bedroom door closed at all times.. yet, all my clothes smell like smoke. I just returned from CA and when I was at my mom's she was like Let, your clothes smell like smoke. I totally stunk up the room with my stuff... so gross!!
I remember when I was in high school and my boyfriend's parents sold their house. They had to repaint cause the top off the walls were yellow from smoke.
I hope that you can quit, we are all rooting for you!!
My roomate told me today that he has only smoked like 5 cigarettes in the last few days, I hope he can quit too.
-
Thanks for the encouragement Let =) Since I started the thread I haven't had a smoke. So yay me. lol It's not a long time, but hey, it's something. And Tylor, I totally agree with the curtious thing. That's why I always try not to smoke around others that it bothers.
-
yay!! You keep up the good work. I was in the kitchen and started coughing I was all, what is making me cough. And my roomate's gf says him!! I said I thought you were quitting, he said after this day I had today. I deserve one...ugh!!
-
i dont see why you want to risk your health on something so stupid.
why do you want to in hale some gross smelling smoke? i just don't understand.
-
sounds like you need a new roommate let........if it is too cold put on a coat....I've run into situations like that but it was a gf and I was living with her...or her with me
I was refering to people you don't live with......but I've moved once because of that....the person knew I smoked before and that I would smoke inside but other issues pushed the issue, as happens when people need to chill out.
-
I'm not a smoker personally, but I know a lot of people who do :?
-
Best reason to quit is your health. I have personal reasons I think smoking sucks. PM me if you wanna know my thoughts. Besides how can you gimme your # if you're dying? LOL
-
lol Stevo! Yeah, my voice would be really really raspy, unless that's something that turns you on.
Anyways, I haven't had a smoke since I made my first post on the subject =)
-
Smoking is bad for you and I would never try it

It's bad for you too. :D
-
i never had too much of a problem with smokers since theres hardly any places in LA that you're allowed to smoke in.. but since i've been in england.. it seems as though everyone does. and it drives me crazy.. i've had to go home early from bars because my throat hurts so bad and i could barely breathe. when i go home, everything on me (including my hair) REEKS of cigarettes, even my UNDERWEAR smells like it. its so rediculous. theres no point to smoking, it wastes money, kills you, and even negatively effects people around you who are smart enough not to.

...
I'm just straight edge, so I don't ever smoke.
it upsets me when people do it, but I won't say anything to them about it.
I hate the smell terribly, I find myself holding my breath all the time here at college, it seems like almost everyone here smokes or drinks.
this is why I love the few straight edge friends I have here so much <3
it's a major turnoff and a damn shame when I see a pretty girl smoking.
I have nothing against people who do smoke, like people are people, they can be nice... so I can be friends with people who smoke, it just really upsets me when someone I know smokes, especially if they do it close to me...
speaking of which..
I was out with my friends the other night... and they all smoked cigars except me. they claim to only do it occasionally with friends, but what really upset me is my one friend i was with smoked for the first time that night.
I just hate how smoking is some sort of "social" thing to do...
it's terrible.
I don't want to type anymore about it :/
I love being straight-edge <3

Personally, I can't smoke. I've actually tried it twice in my life. Once because I was 4 years old and wanted to know what it was, and once when I was 22 and my cousin paid me $5 just to try to.
I don't have anything against people who smoke, but my problem is physical. It's not the smell that bothers me the worst (though I hate when it gets in my clothes and hair), and it doesn't really hurt my nose or my throat. For me, when cigarette smoke gets in me, it feels like my brain is on fire. It's like I get this really fucking horrendous headache that feels like my brain is burning, and a couple of aspirin aren't gonna take care of it (better make it four or five). I just can't be where it's near, even if it's not coming directly my way.
-
I don't smoke, i've done it in the past but never as an habit. I don't have anything against smokers but it is a pretty unhealthy and annoying habit. When you hang out with smokers you always end up stinking of cigarette too and with your clothes full of ashes.
-
Smoking in the city becomes a big problem. Even as a smoker I hope they start giving out citations for smoking everywhere and anywhere so people change. But there should be a place people can do so on their break without bothering other people. For instance on the top of the roof of the building you work at or in the alley around the corner, out of the way of most people walking on the sidewalk. Stuff like that.
-
Yes, I agree. There should be somewhere they can go, and for two reasons:
1. I don't want to hear them bitching about there being nowhere to go.
2. I would like them to be away from me when they do it.
Do I think people have a natural born right to smoke? Hell, no! But I'm not going to tell anyone they can't; I just want it away from me because I don't want my brain to burn. 8)
-
Your brain only burns if you stick the wrong end up your nose and jab it in like so.....
-
Personally, I don't mind cigarettes at all, and forgive me for saying this, but I think it's sexy when I see a hot guy smoking....that's just me, but I've done worse than smoke a cigarette, I believe, it's your body, do what you want with it. Actually I had my first cigarette today....if people want to smoke, let them, if you don't like it, avoid it. There's one thing I can't stand is hearing people complain about cigarette smoke, just leave the area...That's just me though, feel free to brutally criticize me now :)

That's actually good. It is their bodies, so they can do as they will. But this is my body, and though it probably wouldn't bother me so bad except for the vicious headaches, if it's my area, I shouldn't have to leave. For the most part, though, I know how to avoid it and the issue rarely comes up. But like I said, if it's my area, I shouldn't have to leave.
-
Sure, so let's have a thing called "right-of-area" if you're there first, it's yours! And if you don't like them, then they have to get the fuck away!
-
Maybe this will come off as mean, but
I am sick and tired of people that are surprised that get cancer when they smoke packs a day. I mean.. you know what happens with smoking. Anyways it smells bad, and makes you age faster. They should raise the tax up to like $15 a pack and no tax on things that help someone stop smoking. In New York, you can get all those for free. I don't know if any other states have the
"truth" campaign commercials? but they are really true
Why is smoking not illegal? I mean it kills more people than rape, and rape is illegal, i know that is kinda comparing apples to oranges. But just think of it. people are afraid of sharks, but not cigarettes, something that kills more!
anyways smoking is probably one of the dumbest things you can do. Unless you want to die, if so, why long and painful, and wasting money on them?
-
if you are considering quitting then you probably should ecspeacially if you feel it's at a point where you still can quit because the addiction might just get worse
-
I'm glad Tylor made the point about smokers being courteous b/c in some
situations there is much less of that than should be afforded non-smokers.
Trying to enjoy your dinner at a BBQ when you're the only non-smoker at
the table is very difficult. I was in that very situation tonight and it was like
no-one noticed I wasn't enjoying the passive smoking until I left and went
inside. The jumper I'm wearing is going to smell like an ash tray tomorrow

My Grandmother passed away in 03' from lung cancer. She was a smoker and its a horrid disease. Seeing the real effects of smoking scared me away from it forever.
