I really don't know why Van plays White Houses In B Major live, b/c B Major [or G#/Ab Minor] is a rather hard key to play in b/c it had 5 sharps. It's the one I have a hard time perfecting, so I prefer it in C Major; but it is easier to sing to, though.

Completely Off-Topic / Having trouble bunrning DVD - Please Help
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:33:50 am »
Well, I know how to burn stuff to a DVD, now. I just wish I'd figured it out sooner. It's actaully very simple. I don't know whether or not it's forbidden up here, but if anyone wants to know, then they'll have to e-mail me. My e-mail address is listed in my profile.  :D

I'm sooo glad that Maag posted 'Superhero', b/c I felt that there were mistakes in the first transcribsion. I really listened to the song [the a cappella version] when I noticed. It was gonna be my next song, but I realized that there were mistakes in the Lucy's version. It will officially be the next song I learn now that it's put up. It's one of my favorites by Van b/c it has such a pretty melody and vocal arrangement.  :D

As for ATM, I only printed out one page and learned the rest of the song by ear, to be honest. Since I've heard the song a million times for 3 years, it was pretty easy to do. Since I didn't know what the exact notes were by the time Van sang, 'If I could fall, into the sky...', I made up my own melody, changed the notes, and have no intentions of changing it. It took 2 weeks to have the song by ear.

As for 'Birdie', the sound is so muddled that I've tried to listen to the whole song. Even though there are two transcribed versions, they sound very similar.

Hmm...

I don't know about doing a cover, but I wouldn't mind her adding her vocals on to "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys. And also, Nessa could add some more piano in it.

I would like her to cover You dont know my name

Since I'm a big fan of Alicia Keys', I agree. I would love for Van to cover Alicia's 'Dragon Days', since the lyrics are more in Vanessa's league. Moreover, it's one of the few songs on her second album that Alicia Keys wrote by herself.

Here is the middle solo part for Half A Week Before the Winter that I actually started last May!! It's written in 12/8 time so the notes are easier to read than the edition in the Harmonium book which is in 4/4 time with tons of sixteenths and tied notes.

Had I know this was the easier instrumental version that's part of the current HAWBTW, then I would've printed this one out instead.

Can anyone accuratley transcribe the part in white houses where she sings : It's alright, and I put myself in his hands...." cause when i see it live, she plays something different. Thanks!

When I first learned the bridge to White Houses [I play both the C & B versions] it was very difficult. But when I played the game of connecting-the-dots with the help of a pencil, everything fell into place and the bridge was easier to play. All I did was change the notation in the left-hand eighth notes by connecting them. It's not that hard, b/c I can play it like Van. But I do it a little differently b/c I like adding my own flavor to her songs; I never play them exactly like her.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: Sex Tape

WHAT!? I did NOT, I repeat, did NOT download any of these movies, out of respect for Vanessa, and also becuase I'm not into porn at all. But seeing the first file was only 512KB, there's no way it could be the 21 minute video it claims.

Again, I want people to know that I respect Vanessa, and I hope everyone else does enough not to say anything disrespectful or distasteful.

After reading some of these nonsense posts, I really don't know what to believe as to whether or not these sex tapes are real. I wouldn't look at them not b/c I respect Vanessa, b/c I don't know the girl like that; but have no desire whatsoever to see filth such as that [even though I was a little curious]. But why would anyone would make sex tapes not knowing where they'd end up? If it ever got out... well, let's just say we'll know who's to blame, and I'll tell you why.

Wilmer Valderrama made tapes of his celeb sexcapades [who he named from his own lips], but erased them shortly after in fear that they would slip through the cracks and draw unessesary attention to himself, which I thought was pretty smart. I believe one's sex life should be private, and why in the world would someone wanna tape it? That's rather kinky and far out, not to mention downright weird.

Here's another website with sheet music:

http://www.freewebs.com/halfaweekb4/sheetmusic.htm

It hasn't been updated in a while, but oh well...

Whoever put up the other freewebs website, thank you; there's some music clips I've been looking for for ages.

It's about time someone replied in this thread again... anyway, thanks for the transcribsion; I knew you'd post it sooner or later. What about putting the images on Adobe PDF? I've always wanted to do it, but never knew how, b/c I've always wanted to post the attachment of DJ Sammy/Yanou feat. Do's 'Heaven (Candlelight version)' up here, which is beautiful; I'm pretty sure a lot of people have been looking for it for ages. [you can also find it @ Musicnotes.com on Silebius Scorch] And for the record, you can leave the other unfinished version of HAWBTW on the other sheet music thread. I don't know what part of the song it comes from, but leave it; it's fine where it is. I'm also glad you added the lyrics, b/c it'll make the song easier to learn, since there's no MIDI with this.

I have to say that this version of HAWBTW is the most accurate yet; every other arrangement of this I've seen so far is crappy. The slow parts seem accurate, but when it gets fast, the arrangement gets pretty bad. Good job, Baronessa.
