Live Shows / 9/30/11 - Terminal 5, New York, NY (review)
« on: October 02, 2011, 11:37:52 am »
I went to the concert and got to meet her after. She's very pretty up close and such a sweetheart. Her setlist was the same as the Washington, DC concert. The concert itself was good, but since I'm not as big of a fan as I am with her new stuff as I am with her old stuff, this was probably my least favorite Vanessa concert I've been to. It doesn't help that she was the opener so she didn't get to play her old stuff. I asked her after the show if she's going on her own tour and she said yes so I'm holding her to that, heh.

The crowd seemed rude to me because they grew very loud as she was playing and I sensed that Vanessa seemed a bit pissed/annoyed that they were so loud. I don't know, I could see it in her face, but I'm sure she's used to this.

My friend and I are also Matt Nathanson fans so we stayed for his set and we had a lot of fun. He's really funny and such a great performer. I love his new CD more now that I've heard the songs live.

Lol, if she is indeed your friend, then I want to befriend you. ;)

That's Brooke White, the fifth-place finalist on this season's American Idol.

always thought he looked like nicholas brendon aka xander harris of buffy in that photo above.

i think he realized a couple shows into this tour that having vanessa as an opener probably wasn't the best idea...i hear everyone is leaving after she plays.....haha go v!

I totally agree. I always call him Xander.

Lol, good! I was one of those people.

i'm just sad i spent 2 shows shouting "play the one" and she still didn't. oh well. who's to say was amazing.

That was you? Sorry she didn't oblige your request but if it's any consolation, it did make for an amusing exchange between you and her.

"Play The One!"
"What, you don't like this one?"

at whitehouses81680 - alexa sounds better live. there's a little too much going on when she records for an album. :]

I actually prefer Alexa's studio songs rather than hearing them live if only because I tend to get bored really fast if the artist doesn't have a drummer with him/her. I do agree that she has a very strong voice live.

This wasn't one of her better concerts if only for the fact that 1) she was an opener (seriously, why is she opening for anyone not named Stevie or some other more famous/successful artist? How famous is this Joshua guy anyway?) 2) her set was ultra-short and 3) the majority of the audience wasn't there for her - although there was a very good number of Vanessa fans in the audience, we were outnumbered by the Radin fans.

Her voice did seem strained at times and I felt bad for her. It sounded like she had trouble hitting the high notes and I think it cracked several times on her. It didn't help that it was so hot inside. The highlight for me was Home because I finally got to hear that outro live and in person. I got goosebumps. I would have preferred it if she closed her set with Home rather than More Than This.

Alexa was okay, seemed like a cool girl. I didn't bother staying for Radin's set.

I really hope she does her own headlining tour later this year because the last two concerts she did (the showcase at Bowery Ballroom and this past Thursday) have left me unsatisfied because of the short length of the gigs. Here's hoping!

Lastly, while waiting in line outside, I saw a dog that looked like Victor and then I saw this girl wearing shorts, a sleeveless top, and shades and she was looking at her phone. It took me a few seconds to realize it was her, lol. She then casually went in to the venue without anyone noticing/realizing on time it was her. Too funny.

um. i'm going to get tix sometime soon, but are there any age restrictions on this one?

This is the venue's Age Policy:

You must be 16 years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent or guardian to gain entrance into The Fillmore NY @ Irving Plaza. We reserve the right to check ID.

Regular cameras should be okay as well.

I'm just curious. Is anyone actually interested in staying after Vanessa's set for Joshua? I'll be leaving as soon as she's done.

Does anyone know if Vanessa is the opener or the headliner for this tour?

Is Vanessa the opener or the headliner?

I was watching Aliens in America (I think it was last week's episode or the week before that) and they played the intro to Home. I was so excited! They only played a very small snippet though but it was still cool to hear the song somewhere.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Who played on Heroes and Thieves?

You know what I hated about the H&T booklet? The lack of writing credits and the list of musicians who played on the CD. Why did they leave that out? I always love reading those credits and I was so disappointed when I didn't find those in the booklet.

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / What is YOUR favorite album?
« on: October 21, 2007, 01:13:17 pm »
For me, it's Harmonium. I love Heroes and Thieves but it just doesn't hold up to the perfection that is Harmonium. I love all the songs on Harmonium but on H&T, there's one song I really dislike (This Time). Just for that fact alone, Harmonium is my favorite album.
